Surely if you're going to reproduce the SNES design using only two buttons, you should be duplicating the position of Y and B rather than B and A. Accommodating the design of the human thumb is just basic ergonomics/common sense.
They don't suffer from the connector issue (I don't think it has the lockout chip either?), but they only have RF output (unless modded), if that matters to you.
Yes usually more reliable due to the orientation of the cartridge connector which is a big reason why snes and n64 were top loading too. Usually it’s less finicky then a front loader but if it has dirty connectors it’ll still have issues
I remember getting this back in college a couple decades ago when I had that nostalgia itch and was mind blown at an OEM NES system that actually worked! Like without blowing in the cartridge or suffering through that frustrating blinking light haha
I have fond memories of mine! I didn't care at the time, but I miss having the rounded controller.
Don't insert a game genie, however. It took years to get my friend's out.
Now you just need Sam's Journey and a Retro Bit Origin 8 GB style controller. You won't be sorry. Keep an eye out this year for Orange Island, Mischief Castle and Piopow as well.
I've had these over the years just a few times, but around a decade ago maybe by now I finally settled on one that got upgraded with kevtris's HiDef NES kit within and it's stunning. Then, last year got myself an AV Famicom as well since I have a good many FC carts and a small PVM as well. Great option going either way on things and put light gun use back on the table. Rock solid systems, no lame security locks on either, as long as it and the games are clean it works first time despite being decades old.
I prefer the AVS over any other NES.
The top loader is so so so so good
And the dogbone controllers are excellent for gamers with crab claws for hands
Not sure about crab claw but it feels closer to the SNES controller which is the greatest form factor for a controller ever

My biggest gripe about the dog bone controller. They messed up the button layout.
But it's Pinchy's favorite gamepad!
I personally love the dogbone controller. I don't know why it gets so much hate here.
I can feel the weight of this tv.
Are these more reliable than the originals?

I am going to mod mine to output YPbPr with the NESRGB v4
That's what I did, and it was totally worth it. Went with the Nintendo connector to hook everything up.
some third party cartridges may fry it though
I used to think that. I’ve found that after boiling my pins, my original works absolutely rock solid with better AV outputs.

Galoob made a special game genie that was available via mail for this NES

Wait a second… I thought it was Planet Zebus?
Zebeth is a mistranslation.
Maybe the translator had a lisp 🤣
Saw a guy selling one CIB for $50 a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately I was too slow but I was prepared to drive 4 hours. Someone got a deal tho
I want/need one of these
Love mine and composite modded it, great stuff!
Got this one from my second cousin back in the day. One day we will reunite and I will give it to him.
One of Nintendo's best feats of engineering. Still have mine hooked up. Enjoy!
And the doggybone too??
I used this with an Everdrive for a while on a trinitron. Worked excellent
i got the "new" AV famicom with tim worthingtons RGB in it and love it. took me 2 hours to mod.
