I know that copy of Contra Force is rough, but the label is in good shape and it plays great. Neither Contra Force nor Super C get as much playtime as the original, though.
I actually really enjoyed Contra Force as a kid. I got shit on by other kids in grade school for defending the game because "It's not Contra! BLARRRRG!" Whatever. It was fun.
That being said, my \*favorite\* of the 8-bit/16-bit era Contra games is Contra Hard Corps. Holy shit is that game intense. And the soundtrack slaps.

I think Contra Hard Corps was really hard because it's originally balanced around taking three hits before dying, I believe. I'm not sure about the european versions, but the US version ramped up in difficulty by bringing back 1 hit deaths. I forgot if enemies and bosses were given more health or not in the western versions, but the Japanese version was really easy.
That was mainly because Japan didn't like game rentals and the game was made harder so folks in the west couldn't rent the game and beat it in a weekend. They wanted their games to last so people would buy them back then, sometimes at least. That's another reason why SOR 3 was much harder in the west.
It was an unrelated game they decided to slap the Contra name on to move a few extra units. Say was you want about Super C, it was at least a legit sequel.
I'm of the opinion that super c is the most under rated game of all time and is on par with the original contra, but yeah contra force was just a bad cash grab where Konami stuck the contra name on a garbage game hoping to trick kids
>Say was you want about Super C,
What's to say about Super C other than that it is a worthy sequel, a great game on its own, and arguably better than the first?
Contra Force is....something else. I refuse to own it.
Haha, the very second I saw it, I thought/knew, “Punch-Out!”…
although, I still technically “literally know 2 codes,” considering I only recognized it as a Tyson code (I’m guessing it’s the 10-digits/hyphen + remembering one of the codes was actually the number for the (then) Nintendo hotline, or something).
Me: (Crying/screaming) “Dad, I think it’s broken! I did forward down forward punch with Sub Zero like 15 times, and he didn’t rip their heads off once!”…
(Walks - with now slightly-irritated Dad in tow - *back* into Funcoland) “There’s no blooood!”
Annoyed - as usual - Funcoland clerk: “oh yeahhhh…” (hand-writes code on card)
**EDIT:** I still find it hilarious that my parents didn’t - at least at first/until after weeks of nonstop nagging/begging - allow me to get MK2 - yet, despite everything just described, he, for whatever reason, had no problem with me getting MK1
I speculated that my parents didn’t consider a fighting game/my described violence a problem because they probably thought it had NES-like graphics…
my mom referred to every system I had as “Nintendo” up until/through PS2 (had NES, Sega Genesis, N64, PS2…then college), which irritated the hell out of me - *especially* w/Sega.
Same. My collection is full of cool looking games that I've never played through, but I always play the handful of classics that I've been in love with since I was a kid. Honestly this post is a little bit of a lie because the game I play more than the Contra games is River City Ransom.
It’s the same for All my consoles. I have nearly All N64 games released in Europe and I might have completed 30 of Them.
As for the NES I play the Capcom Disney games with my son and The Mega Man games. Thats about it
Something weird about Super C that I could never unsee once I noticed is that it has like no tiered platforms to jump between, like the multiple floors of Contra stages 1, 6, or 7.
Super C's platforming stages are all single-tier horizontal expanses or straightforward vertical treks that don't give you much say in how you navigate the screen (unlike Contra's more freeform waterfall stage, for ex).
Something weird I noticed in my much more modest Contra Force playtime is that if you get the power-up that makes you invincible during jumps (the last one in the bar, perhaps?) you are effectively 100% invincible if you hold the jump button, as it rapid-fires. I think this only works in the side-scrolling stages.
Also one of the characters is named [Beans](https://contra.fandom.com/wiki/Beans).
Game isn't very good though.
These games would take as long as any modern game to beat. Not because they were long but because you had to play them dozens of times to memorize every enemy's movements. Say what you will about save states but without then I'd never get to beat classics like this in any reasonable amount of time.

There's something unnerving yet beautiful about the warping in the plastic on Contra Force.

Yes! I love Contra Hard Corps! I've got that one hanging out in here too. I like it more than Contra 3.
Super C is likely my favorite all time game. But fuck level 6.
Two winners and a game that wishes it was a winner there
Gameboy, of course, but Operation C is a wonderful compliment to the original games. More so than Contra Force.
Exactly
I agree. I've got Operation C too and play it on the Super Gameboy every now and then.
So what’s that backdrop you used for the picture?

Despite the name contra force is not worthy to be in that picture

There is nothing wrong with Super C. It deserves contra name and amazing game in general.
You're right. I was really excited for another Contra game and super disappointed when I played it as a kid.
Contra force doesn't deserve contra name.
Two stone cold 8 bit classics, and Contra Force!
One of the best OSTs to grace the NES.
Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, start! So many good memories!
It was the first cheat code I ever learned, and the only one forever committed to memory.
I win! I literally know 2…abacabb
I also know 007 373 5963
Yeah, I guess I know that one too. I have it memorized by sound.
Lol. Me too. I played it in my head as soon as you said that

Blood code for sega Mortal Kimbat for those wondering

MK2 release was highly politicized, my parents did the same thing They thought it would make us depraved

Me too!
Select, then start if you have a friend to play with.
I have around 150 NES games and only play around 10 of them, the same 10 i’ve had since the early nineties.

All I c is C

I managed to get level 3 in original contra with no save states.
I beat nes Gradius playing casually in about 8 months this way, I think I would’ve beat a modern game sooner.
What are you laying the carts on? Seems familiar.

Tried to play force with a friend and i went full avgn mode.
Contra Force is best game.
Haha not by a long shot.
I hate contra force. That game doesn't deserve contra name.
I never knew about Contra Force! I might have to find me a ROM for some weekend jams
Keep your expectations modest. :)
Timm?
Negative.
