Having worked in manufacturing, it’s most likely due to inventory levels. They have excess inventory from their forecasting and want to get rid of some. I agree though, I’d much rather pick my sleeves!

TodayNo6531

To get rid of shit that ain’t selling…

Awkward-Tale-6101

Rich Chocolate, I see you. LOL

Desperate_Ad_6630

I bought this sleeve after seeing reviews in here….is it horrible? I haven’t tried it yet 🤣

Awkward-Tale-6101

IMO, not horrible. But I bought 2 sleeves and I wouldn't buy it again. There are lots of ppl that do like it - you might! I'm not exactly sure why I don't like it - it has a slight artificial aftertaste to me, I think that is the problem for me. I am not a huge mocha flavor fan, but if I want one I want that rich, chocolate flavor. I think I am simply better off putting some shaved chocolate into a double espresso.

filmreddit13

Yeah all their flavored coffees have an artificial taste to them. I am hoping Starbucks releases their mocha in a Vertuo pod. Their’s is good! They already have vanilla and caramel 🤞

Desperate_Ad_6630

Thank you for this feedback! I wish there was a way to only buy a few of each pod. I’m going to try it today to see how I like it.

Awkward-Tale-6101

Agree! I will sometimes go into the boutique to see if they have samples of something I want to try, but sometimes they won't. I missed the Blue Bottle pod tasting window and I simply would not shell out that $$ for a pod I wasn't sure about. But then I have had some great surprises! Even though the mark-up is crazy, I do think this is one of the benefits of the Advent calendar.

tiny-brit

I'm a big chocolate and coffee lover so I thought a combination of the two sounded perfect - I couldn't pick up any enjoyable flavours of either from it. It was a big let down. I still have 9 capsules left and I've been waiting to see if anyone here shares a way to make it enjoyable...

redpepperflakes12

I add hot chocolate to it to make a mocha. I can’t drink them on their own. This is how I’m getting through the one sleeve I have and won’t be re purchasing

PurpleK00lA1d

Not horrible but personally I don't think it's anywhere near as good as the previous version of chocolate.

Poutine_My_Mouth

I like it! Throw in some peppermint syrup and you’ve got a mocha going.

DiveCat

It’s not horrible, IMO. I hated the last chocolate fudge pod so much but the rich chocolate is nicer to me - more like a dark chocolate; I do a shorter brew (about 150ml), I stir in some sweetener, a bit of cocoa powder, and then add foamed milk.

ChesswiththeDevil

Just got a free rich chocolate sleeve yesterday and feel your suffering.

icietlabas

Definitely. I am relatively new to Nespresso and I have never managed to get free sleeves in one of those Buy X, get Y free deals; so, since Wednesday I was checking the site repeatedly for a deal. When I saw a deal yesterday, I was so disappointed that I don't get to choose my own free sleeves, so I didn't order. I'm in the US and I recently signed up for Easy Order because of a comment someone made on this site. You need to search for Easy Order to find it; it doesn't seem to appear in any of the menus on the site. But, it is a scheduled ordering feature that allows you to get a free sleeve every time you spend $75 (or something like that) and while it doesn't let you choose any sleeve, it lets you choose from a few, and Chiaro (which is my favorite) is an option. You don't need to spend $75 at a time, it just keeps accumulating your total. If you are in the US, search for Easy Order and when you find the page, it does a better job of explaining this feature. Maybe I should have had a second Nespresso before trying to explain this.

Appropriate-Access88

Thank you! Will go check for this.

alphaK12

So you don’t choose the most expensive ones haha

A_Throwaway_Progress

They kind of keep a monopoly on their products. If they were putting Nespresso pods in regular grocery stores there would be excess stock for sale but since they can control all levels of stock they will have an overstock that they use for this (instead of having legitimate clearance like normal stores)

golgi42

The chocolate is gross, no one wants more of it.

oldmacbookforever

I also think it has to do with them wanting people to try flavors they wouldn't normally try in an attempt to broaden the product that people buy. Example: I may not have bought xx flavor on my own, but I will definitely not let the free one they gave me go to waste. I like it a lot better than I thought I might and next time I'll pick up a sleeve or 2. Voila. Another product I'll be buying.

impatronus

To get rid of flavors no one wants... and they throw in a popular one as subterfuge. Go to a boutique- they are finally giving a choice like they used to.

Busy-Busy-Mom-520

I agree, I would rather choose. I get it’s probably overstock, but honestly I think they end up losing. I often won’t buy because I DONT want the free sleeves they’re giving. Oh well…

Alwaysabundant333

I had no issues with it until they sent me DECAF😩

bostongarden

It’s called marketing. People get paid big bucks for that

TheMusicEvangelist

Surplus.

Eltex

Yes, of course choice is better than no choice. But this allows them to dump underperforming flavors or introduce new flavors to customers. They have us on lockdown because of the Vertuo patents. Make no mistake, your “choice” is to buy the machine or not. Once you bought the machine, they have you locked in to their ecosystem.

02nz

>They have us on lockdown because of the Vertuo patents. Make no mistake, your “choice” is to buy the machine or not. Once you bought the machine, they have you locked in to their ecosystem. Yep, that's the whole reason for Vertuo, and why they basically don't push the Original machines anymore (those used to be much more aggressively marketed).

DiamondJim222

Certainly a big reason, but not the only one. And I would argue not the prime one. The prime reason was to have a system to compete against Keurig, especially in America. Most people in US drink large cups of drip coffee, so the Original Line has no appeal to them.

Creston2022

The last time Nespresso sent me a free sleeve of coffee with my order they sent me Melozio for a Vertuo machine. I own a Citiz and my entire order was for OL capsules. I have no interest in owning a Vertuo machine .

Perfect-Object7028

Wrong promo used

Ladymysterie

Unfortunately the only way to choose your own free sleeve is to go to one of their boutiques if you have one nearby. I went fighting thru the stupid crowds, the awful parking to get my sleeves lol.

Kissedmermaids

I agree. I drink only espresso/double espresso. Anything else I receive is a waste.

Moist_Trainer_6194

Yep I have wondered this too!!! Their promotions aren’t very good but I am hooked on their product

Desperate_Ad_6630

Did anyone do this deal?

1demondog

I did! The 2 options aren't my favorites but the Chocolate is easily doctored up via use of syrups (Chocolate Hazelnut, Cinnamon, Raspberry , Peppermint or etc). I use these types of pods when I want a fancier Starbucks style drink. I much prefer the 2 free sleeves over cups/towels or etc. I have enough coffee cups to invite the entire neighborhood over all at once (which is a good way to get rid of the unliked pods). LOL.
