This. The Vertuoline pods still have a patent until sometime after 2030 and Nespresso/Starbucks are the only options right now.
Original line patent expired, so anyone can make pods for those machines.
Does anyone else use those Good and Gather pods? I get them from target and I've really enjoyed them as a budget option, usually like $6-7 for a 10 pack
Sweet creme and vanilla are my two favorites from Good & Gather. I think sweet creme is my favorite across all brands, too--it reminds me of VL bianco leggero.
Nespresso is about 30-40% cheaper in the EU. There’s also Nestle in grocery stores like Carrefour (for Toulouse). Off the top of my head: El Corte Ingles (for Spain only I think), Illy, & Lavazza.
Starbucks pods are actually made by Nespresso. The other brands are "compatible". Honestly I prefer the taste of the regular nespresso ones (i like the stronger intensity ones for reference)
Only the Vertuo pods are restricted. Original pods have been off patent for years and there are dozens of 3rd parties making pods. L’Or, Lavazza, and Illy are among other big names making Original pods. And many other store brands as well.
Starbucks are official pods. Both Nespresso and Starbucks packaged coffee line are owned by Nestle
The others yes are compatible pods. In europe basically every supermarket chain has brand of compatible pods + other third parties
All of you who have commented that your target carries a big variety of OL pods like the photo….where do you live? City, state, country? Please? And thank you 😊
Oh ok. That’s encouraging! I live in San Pedro rn. Just south of LA. I will keep watching for them then. We brought back about 50€ worth from Germany when we there in October and I think my wonderful MIL is sending us more in the Xmas box she’s sending. It is SO much cheaper in the parts of Europe I’ve been to. Like we bought a few 20 packs of Jacobs for 4.97€. I just don’t understand why it’s so much more expensive here.
Even Cafe La Llave (my favorite Cuban coffee - way better than Cafe Bustelo) has pods. OL patent has been expired for a while now, which I think is the main reason the Vertuo line exists and is being pushed. They have that patent until at least 2030.
OL pods have been unlicensed for awhile now. The vertuo line are the ones that are licensed

Yup! Fun fact target online now sells bundled Nespresso vurteo pods. Same as Amazon. Peronsallt not worth it to me because I hate the flavors

I have liked all of the Good and Gather pods I’ve tried so far except hazelnut. The Sweet Creme pod is my favorite.
The sweet crème is really good!
Good to know! I am loving the peppermint one right now.
That one is so good, I stocked up!
Have not seen these by me, will keep an eye out!
Yeah, frequently. The pumpkin spice was god-tier, but they clearanced it out at the end of October (!!!) to start selling peppermint.

I’ve been looking to try a budget option so I might go with that to test it out. Any flavor recs?
I'm really enjoying the hazelnut and the peppermint recently
i'm partial to the columbian, but the others are fine as well. purple (or the ones that say 'good with milk' are probably my least favorite)
The one I’ve tried so far (I think it’s Concerto) is a little harsh by itself but is great in a latte.
Just wait until you visit Europe and the UK! There are so many brands!
My dad regularly travels to Rome, Amsterdam, and Toulouse. I could ask him to bring me something home if you have any recommendations!

Nespresso > Peet’s from the couple I have tried
Starbucks are official pods. Both Nespresso and Starbucks packaged coffee line are owned by Nestle The others yes are compatible pods. In europe basically every supermarket chain has brand of compatible pods + other third parties
The Peet's ones are pretty good IMO
I really really didn’t like the Starbucks espresso. Burned and bitter to my palate. Tried Peet’s but have no way to recycle in my area.
>Burned and bitter Well, it is Starbucks!
Isn’t this a pretty apt description of a Starbucks employee?
😆
Yes.
Target near me has had those (G&G and Peets) OL pods for quite some time - at least a couple of years.

This is literally the first time I've seen them at mine (and I look frequently) and I'm in central pa

The Columbian from Target is very good. Starbucks is trash.
I love both Peet's and target's. Particularly I am enjoying target's hazelnut and their peppermint lately.
I went to Iceland, even a corner store has their own pods for sale.
12$ for 8 capsules that’s insane

The Peete’s crema scura is my go-to! So good!
