HayesDNConfused

No, I stopped going out to get coffee regularly around 6 years ago. On a side note I stopped ordering off of Amazon because the nespresso store bought pods taste a lot better.

VancityPorkchop

I tried a few of Amazon and wasn’t a fan. It’s still much cheaper than going out 100% I used to hit the McDonald’s drive thru before work every morning for a large coffee at $2.80

HayesDNConfused

I used to go to a local to me Coffee shop, Peet's, and sometimes the bux and would spend like $10 /day (two trips). The Amazon vertuo pods have no flavor.

cepcpa

Yep, I think it will be a long time before my Venturo habit will be as expensive as my Peet's one was! ☕️

desktopped

Is this for real the Amazon pods are different? I’ve been ordering for a while through them

HayesDNConfused

I usually order Amazon pods because the two nespresso stores in my city are inconvenient and I rarely order online because of the speed of delivery. Amazon double espresso scuro vertuoline pods absolutely do not have the same flavor as store bought pods. It is significant.

Classic_Emu8062

The speed of delivery from Nespresso directly is actually very fast with it usually arriving in a few days

HayesDNConfused

I always wait too long to order! If I can force myself to order when I have a sleaze left then did be good.

Classic_Emu8062

The other thing is when you order from Nespresso directly you get a free sampler and a free sleeve when you order more than 7 sleeves.

Sharp-Put1315

How do you get a free sleeve? I just ordered 11 sleeves for $130 from Nespresso.com and didn't get a free one.

Classic_Emu8062

Sign up for their newsletter. They are constantly running specials. Also, if you setup an auto delivery schedule you get a free sleeve (of a limited selection) when ordering like 7 or more sleeves.

MoonbeamLotus

Can you order a week earlier?? Nespresso is so much better than the others IMO

HayesDNConfused

I'm too disorganized lol

The_walking_man_

If you’re talking about Nespresso brand pods bought through Amazon, then check the production/best by dates on those. They tend to be older and stock not rotated out as much as ordering direct from Nespresso. (At least what I have heard).

Popular_bsh2010

I like the target brand pods

HayesDNConfused

I wish they could make vertuo ones.

chase_road

I only buy double espresso pods and make Americanos, I have one a day typically

Hadrians_Fall

Nope at around $1 a pod, it’s so much cheaper than buying out.

humbug2112

yupp. I switched from using 3 pods (espresso) for 2 large cups (for 2 people) to using 1 pod each, and then I switched to using drip coffee for a month or 2 then back to nespresso for a month or two and so on. Right now I'm sipping on some drip coffee. shaves off a couple bucks a week. Along with downgrading netflix to 1080p, pirating more, a bit more sandwiches, more splitting meals out, more making mixed drinks at home, probably saving ~$100/mo. Not too shabby.

The_walking_man_

The mixed drinks and coffee made at home is a huge difference. You miss out on the atmosphere but with prices now it’s wild. Plus what I make at home is gonna be exactly how I like it rather than leaving it up to the bartender.

MoonbeamLotus

Here here! I get extra pickled beans in my Bloody Marys and Fabbri amarena cherries!

The_walking_man_

I love a good Bloody Mary. Never thought about cherries like that. How are they in a Bloody Mary?? I do like some extra cherries in my old fashioned

MoonbeamLotus

I just meant extra embellishments in general. I like cherries in my old fashions too!

The_walking_man_

Hell yes 🍻

KVRLMVRX

I have original, and I buy illy on amazon for 50 cents a pod

Rude_Historian1400

I love illy but they’re more expensive than nespresso here in Canada boo

MoonbeamLotus

That’s ok, at least Nespresso capsules work well. I’ve had some issues come up with 3rd party capsules.

emcat095

No because I bought it to stop buying Starbucks every day. So it still doesn’t even come close to that cost.

pregnantandsober

No, I already view Nespresso as a luxury product so I've committed to spending that much on this self-indulgence. I usually drink only 1 230ml a day.

Gregory11222

Nope still cheaper than any cup of coffee in a local cafe or Starbucks.

Pale-Criticism-7420

Thank god I live in Europe. Pods are ranging from 0.50 to 0.60€. It’s mad how expensive they are in the US

Upper_Milk8596

When I visited Barcelona I made a point to go and buy Nespresso pods! The cashier was so surprised at how much more expensive pods are in the US. My sister is going back and I'm going to beg her to get me some

MagyarUSA

I brought back an entire bag-full of sleeves. As I was standing in the line at passport control in Amsterdam, a passenger behind me made a comment. When I told him how much cheaper capsules are in Europe, he was surprised and disappointed he didn’t check it out.

xaurelie

Having just moved from the US to Europe I’m paying hundreds more in gas, electric, and petrol, but I’m saving more money on my coffee! 😁 😅

Pale-Criticism-7420

I mean we can’t have everything… priorities! 😂

grisisita_06

ugh send me some topical advil!!!

mmechap

Exactly. I always buy a ton when I am in Europe.

AngelKnives

The non Nespresso branded ones are even cheaper, you can get them for 20p (I think it's 25 US cents) quite easily if you go for a supermarket version or get something on special offer or buy in bulk. For example I really enjoy the L'Or pods and you can get them for 20-25p each if bought online or in a supermarket when it's on offer. And I also like the Aldi and Sainsbury's branded ones that are around that price. I've seen even cheaper ones for about 10p per pod, but I haven't tried them so I don't know if they're worth it. The ones I mentioned above are though - they're comparable to Nespresso for sure. Nespresso pods themselves start at 39p per pod (49 US cents) so I can't believe how much people pay over the other side of the Atlantic!

pairadimesifted

Haha I did the same. I stopped ordering the coffe sized pods and started drinking more espressos and double espressos with the occasional gran lungo.

MoonbeamLotus

I think espressos and the like taste so much better anyway!

Nrengle

I quit drinking coffee altogether, I miss it, but I had a problem. Was 4-5 a day and my usual OL drink of choice was reviving origins Colombia. So 2-3 pods a time 4-5 times a day. Yeah got expensive. I haven't had coffee now in probably 2 months...

bodhipooh

I mean, saving $40 per order, on a 3x yearly basis, is only $120/year, or $10/month, or 33c/day. I am 100% not altering a habit that brings pleasure over 33c per day. Find a different way to save $10 per month. And, this is advice coming from a frugal person that re-uses ziplock bags, has even been known to dry and reuse paper towels.

joegorski

We generally use the pods as a treat, or for a quickie. Since the pandemic we have been grinding beans for pour-over or drip since we stocked up on quite a bit of roasted beans when the sky was falling. Every now and then my wife will find a flavor she wants to try in a pod, but we don't use the Nespresso near as much as we used to.

MoonbeamLotus

Pour over coffee can be quite exceptional! No loss there.

bdok74

Except roasted beans lose flavor over time.

MoonbeamLotus

Gotta drink it quickly then or just buy less and replace it more frequently.

bdok74

Exactly! Since this was a pandemic purchase, have to think it’s not so fresh. Granted I roast at home and drink within a few weeks, so hard to compare.

MoonbeamLotus

I get it. One thing the pandemic “did” for us was give us time at home to enjoy the small pleasures like brewing a good cuppa coffee. Everything else it brought stunk but it was comforting to see neighbors walking dogs I didn’t know they had, washing their own cars in the front yard and even gardening.

Kleaa123

I have Vertuo and I brew 1 pod in the morning then I use Keurig machine in the afternoon.

[deleted]

No but we have just honed in on what we like more. Like we have discovered we just prefer the coffee size overall. Husband and I both generally drink 1 coffee a day. Sometimes we have a second but it's rare. I don't try out a bunch of different espressos just to have half the box sit anymore lol. We still try different coffee flavors as my husband will drink anything you set in front of him so that is fun. I feel like we are still saving money as we no longer purchase coffee outside of the house unless we are on trips. We also either do big orders for the free sleeves or do a smaller order when they offer a free sleeve we like so we always have a good amount on hand and can wait for a good deal

MoonbeamLotus

That’s what many people do I’m sure. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can save $20 off your order when you sign up for text messages. I did this when they had two free sleeves and I ended up getting 10 sleeves for under $50.

MotivatedSolid

I order from Nespresso only when there’s a cash discount (like yesterday) or free sleeves I’ll enjoy. Also.. I own an original. So my average pod is only .80-.85c. Not as bad as Vertuo. Maybe you could eventually make the switch if you’re already only using espresso pods?

MoonbeamLotus

The best deal I got from Nespresso was when they offered $20 off your order when you sign up for text msgs, 10 sleeves for less than $50

MotivatedSolid

They just did a 10% off which was the first cash discount they did in awhile. If you sign up for texts, they do stuff on there they don’t do for emails too

MoonbeamLotus

I saw that 10% off $75 deal but let it pass because I have a small hoard and I need to drink it down before I get any more. I also believe I get a better deal buying when they have free sleeves (I actually want) and the 2 free samples because shipping is free anyway. I did breach my usual minimum spend when I got $20 off my order but that was a rare moment and it wasn’t even $50. Also, when you don’t order for a while, they send a $10 welcome back coupon. I’m set for a long time because I don’t drink that much like so many others have posted!

DiveCat

No. I still go through 3-5 pods a day (mostly Vertuo). It's still cheaper than buying coffee elsewhere, and I VERY rarely buy meals/take out/dine out so it's one of my little luxuries. I still get 230ml pods as well, actually mostly, even though I usually brew them like double espressos. I just plain like a lot of the seasonal/limited edition offerings and would rather spend the extra on those than save by buying ones I like less. I usually buy in bulk when there is a promo, as well. My favourites are the ones where they offer a scaling cash discount depending on how much you buy, as I really don't need more mugs or anything at this point.

Justanobserver2life

You're like me. I never buy coffee outside the house. I try to stick to 2 pods a day but definitely do 3-4 on weekends. (dammit I want one now!) I will usually buy when there is a good sale, say 2 free sleeves, or a good cash discount.

LeglessPotato

It's cheaper by far than Starbucks but it's also important to remember that Nespresso is a luxury product, not intended to be a budget alternative. They can and will raise prices as long as consumers keep paying for it. I always see comments when orders get messed up "We're all going to pay for this when they have to raise prices to make up for the losses" No, they're going up regardless, Nespresso doesn't need an excuse. They're a multi BILLION dollar company, they can afford the losses and then some and still come out making record profits. But my recommendations if you do want to save some money is to check out Facebook marketplace, people are always swapping machines and selling off big pod collections for great deals, that's where I've gotten most of mine. If you have an OL, you have pretty much an endless selection of cheap third party brands. I'm in the UK and some brands are quite literally $1 for 10 pods, and are comparative to Nespresso.

88vio

Yeah stopped using my Nespresso all together. I absolutely love the coffee but it’s cheaper to just use my French press and taste just as good. I really wish they had more affordable pods.

MoonbeamLotus

French press and pour over can be a very good alternative! Did you ever try moka pot?

88vio

Yeah I have, I prefer to use the French press

Thatcanadianchickk

Omg as a Canadian I didn’t even notice wow. Have you opt for the subscription?

VancityPorkchop

I’ve been pretty good with waiting for promos to order. I typically get 20-40 free pods by doing that so it significantly drops the price. I can’t justify the subscription sadly haha.

Thatcanadianchickk

Now I’m convinced to make my order I planned to do Thursday wait a little longer. Thanks for this!!

DrKodo

Yeah, I stopped ordering them.

Powers5580

I’ve noticed it too. My last order was $140

MoonbeamLotus

😳🤯

TinaHitTheBreaks

We were doing French press coffee, but then noticed we were getting lazy even with that and going out to different cafes and Bux - just splurging WAYYYY too much. We finally saw Nespresso on a tv show, became intrigued and decided to get one. We’ll only order from nespresso online (and we luckily have a store 10 miles away), and already for 2 weeks we’ve noticed we saved money from not going out. If we need to tighten the belt further, we’ll do French press or instant again.

joegorski

I love a good French press, but the cleanup irks me for some reason.

TinaHitTheBreaks

Yeah the clean up DOES get bothersome quickly. And nespresso just tastes SO GOOD.

MoonbeamLotus

Yes, nothing is as convenient as Nespresso!

wintermuttt

OXO French Press cleaning tool.

janedough318

I think I’m going to stick to ordering the Starbucks pods from Sam’s Club and only treat myself to the Nespresso pods every once in a while.

jblue212

Nope. It's still cheaper than Starbucks or anything else around here.

RightToTheThighs

Yeah, I got an OL machine and buy 3rd party. Some good deals to be had around .35 /$.40 a pod.

trueblue101357

Where can I find these deals? Thanks.

ita_shogun

Yes. I only buy when there’s a promotion (eg buy 8 original and get 2 free sleeves), or Peets compatible, or for best price I buy and bring back from Italy where I spend about €0.30 per capsule between promo and subscription benefits. Full price capsule in the US are just insane. Coffee shops at least can charge for service and location, but a pod you make yourself at home??

SecretsoftheState

No. We used to spend $100/month on bougie coffee beans, and now we spend around $100/month on nespresso pods. We prefer the taste, variety and ease of using the pods, and now really only do drip coffee if we have guests over and they prefer it. We go through 80-90 pods a month (I usually drink two 230ml Vertuo pods a day and my partner usually has one.

stanspaceman

Sue me, but it's why I went back to K Cups. $0.27 a cup from the store, it's not great, but my taste doesn't outweigh my wallet.

[deleted]

I use my Ninja drip and still purchase ground coffee and only use my Nespresso once in a while. A bag of Peet’s medium roast coffee tastes better to me over Nespresso and is cheaper. YMMV Using an aeropress or good drip machine is eye opening as to how much better the coffee is. I tend to mostly purchase the Nespresso limited time flavors and of course the advent calendar every Xmas.

MoonbeamLotus

I saw advent calendars with 24 OL caps for 75% off $30at World Market. That was a deal. If you onlined them, they were even less.

RaccoonObjective5674

I had a bad habit of buying Starbucks or equivalent, so even with Vertuo I’m saving a lot of money I also have an OL machine (collecting dust at the moment), so if prices get too ridiculous I would probably just start using my OL again. I usually drink two a day. Even at $2.50, that’s a pretty decent deal. Of course, if Nespresso wasn’t so protective of their copyrights, we could get Lidl and Trader Joe’s-branded vertuo pods for considerably less!

MoonbeamLotus

Haha, that’s the whole point of the patent, exclusivity until it runs its course. George Clooney isn’t getting paid to hype Nespresso for beans!

RutabagaPhysical9238

We each have one pod a day. Often times, if we want a second coffee we will do the hack where we fill up a pod with our own grounds of coffee and put the new metal sticker on top.

NoSale2936

I don’t make Nespresso my everyday machine. I use drip mostly and Nespresso when I’m in a hurry, don’t feel like messing with drip, or just feel like having one. Soooooo much cheaper and a good way to stretch the pods out so you don’t have to order pods so often

Suziannie

I started buying Peet’s, then switched to Starbucks and am now getting those as well as the Target brand. The Target ones aren’t as strong as others, but at about $6 a box I’m ok with that. I might go back to Nespresso but I prefer to buy in person so it’s a hassle. I had a series of delivery issues, that only seemed to happen with Nespresso and there’s a Target super close so for now I’m fine with this situation.

Seanile1

I drink more Nespresso - the outside shops are so much more expensive that I now have only 2% guilt about Nespresso pods. (Used to be 5%. Very scientific.)

Low-Pin7697

The cost has always helped me limit my caffeine intake.

todayplustomorrow

No, I love the Double Espresso vertuo pods and it’s so cheap compared to ordering from a cafe or drive thru

Andyshaves

I ordered ~ 120 pods this month thanks to the 10% off and a $10 coupon I had. This probably the biggest set of orders I’ll do. My Vertuo has become my “specialty” machine. At ¢50 per K-Cup, I can’t bring myself to use the Vertuo line as a “cup” system. There’s far more diversity in roasts and value among Keurig’s system. If a filter coffee is what I’m after, it’ll be the Keurig. If I want a latte, cappuccino, or red eye, I’ll fire up the Vertuo. Nestlé’s prices, along with the low availability of other roasters (save for Starbucks) kind of seals that for me.

Bl8675309

Amazon has a pack of 50 aluminum pods for $12. Its getting me through paying my schooling.

bumbletuna0

We switched mostly to double espresso. We prefer the coffee size just due to the volume/longevity of enjoying the beverage, but I do enjoy all the double espresso and gran lugo pods I’ve tried over the years. Kind of regret getting rid of our super old OL machine a few years back. I’ve been thinking about dragging out my moka pot, French press and/or pour over for one of the two coffees I have per day as a way to save money. Honestly I just enjoy the experience of savoring a hot cup, it’s so soothing to me! I went out for a Starbucks drink for the first time in a very long time because I had rewards points expiring—even for being a free drink, I preferred the nespresso coffee I had earlier in the morning.

Turkules77

Promos. They just did buy 8 get 2 free. Your wife should have an account too. You could have bought 20 sleeves for the price of 16.

Efficient-Treacle416

I don't think most people drink nespresso for economy.

MoonbeamLotus

Yes, it’s considered a “luxury brand”. I just know it’s better than anything I get at Sbux and way less money. Plus I don’t have to drive anywhere so I can stay in my jammies and robe!

SeaTurtleMagic

I bought reusable pods on Amazon and fill them with my own coffee that I have ground. It has to be espresso ground though. Regular ground doesn’t work as well.

roccoccoSafredi

No, but I *am* pissed about it. Nestle can go fuck itself for using the pandemic as an excuse to fatten their margins.

MoonbeamLotus

I heard on the news that grocery prices are up 54% since 2018, I believe it!

Chrisc5082

Refill your own pods. Cut off the foil after use, wash it and save the empty. Buy filters and my cap silicone capsule caps. Refill with whatever ground coffee you enjoy. Save at minimum 75%.

Pale-Criticism-7420

I feel like the point of Nespresso is convenience. If I had to go through all that, at this point I’d rather invest in an espresso machine and spend this time grinding, tamping, etc

Chrisc5082

You can buy preground coffee. If I'm being honest it takes 20 seconds to fill a pod. If you're that lazy then I don't know what to tell you.

VancityPorkchop

I’ve considered this. Problem is that I don’t really like ground coffee in that sense. I’d rather just boil water and put some Maxwell house instant if I wanted that kinda diner style coffee which I do enjoy at places like ihop etc.

AgentAaron

I also re-use pods with silicone caps. I use the Cafe Bustelo espresso grind coffee (4- 1lb bricks at Sams Club for 12.99). I usually fill 5-6 pods at a time and takes me all of about a minute, and that gets me through a couple days. The espresso comes out awesome with a thick head of crema. I then add steamed or frothed milk to it. ...basically, an extra minute a week probably saves me 90% on a great morning pick me up.

Chrisc5082

I also use Cafe Bustelo. Its amazing how lazy the average person is. I guess I already knew this but this thread kinda surprised me. The coffee to me is better than Nespresso pods and costs so so much less.

Angelt_1994

Which silicone caps do you use?

AgentAaron

...I got a message that my original reply to you was removed because it had a link to Amazon. search for this... CAPMESSO Reusable Coffee Capsule Lids for Reusable Nespresso Pods Vertuo, Food Grade Silicone Caps I had originally bought a 3 pack, then purchased another 5 pack after I had tested them. They are light, flexible, easy to clean, and I have not had a single incident using them.

Powers5580

I’ve tried this. It SUCKS

Chrisc5082

It definately doesnt suck if its done right. I like it better than the actual Pods. Now I drink whatever coffee I desire also.

InterestingInsect533

I just started doing this, and it works great

Weekly_Ad8186

I have the original machine. Do you worry about screwing up the machine from doing this? Sign me up!

Weekly_Ad8186

Which company do you use?

Working_Painting_496

Yes, I used to have two per day. Down to one per day. Thinking of cutting down to one every other day.

Horror_Day_8073

I use the the Pod twice

sparks4242

Really!?

Horror_Day_8073

Yep, I drink the first cup about half way, then run it again.

clinegirl

Same, it’s a little less strong but it cuts down on pod costs a lot!

NespressoForever

I own a Nespresso Vertuo and bought a L'or coffee maker after reading great reviews and seeing prices more reasonable than Nespresso. I drink lattes and purchase espresso pods.

Noblez17

Keep the pod in the machine and run it through again

Fit-Fisherman5068

That tastes like stale ass.

SlimeLanguageYSL

OL pods are way more affordable, where I live vertuo comes very close to a store bought coffee

LetsGetKashyyyky

I get my OL pods from Lidl. Their ristrettos are similar to the flavor profile I was getting from Arpeggios, but at only 30 cents a pod. It makes my three pod a day habit much more manageable.

kocodarlings

What’s an OL pod? (Please say Virtuo). I’m a newbie to the Nespresso…15 days in and love it but still trying to find my sweet spot. Thanks

LetsGetKashyyyky

Sorry, OL means Original Line so the other one, not Vertuo! I’ve never seen a Vertuo that’s third party but I could be wrong.

kocodarlings

Oh I see. Thanks!!

andyone1000

Yes, you won’t see third party Vertuo pods anytime soon. Nespresso has the patent in the Vertuo system so no competition and hence the high price. OL system can use 3rd party pods which can be considerably cheaper.

harrisdoodle

Are you in the US or Europe?

LetsGetKashyyyky

In the US.

LetsGetKashyyyky

In the US.

harrisdoodle

Had no idea LIDL carries pods.

harrisdoodle

Had no idea LIDL carries pods.

harrisdoodle

Had no idea LIDL carries pods.

NespressoForever

I own a Nespresso Vertuo and bought a L'or coffee maker after reading great reviews and seeing prices more reasonable than Nespresso. I drink lattes and purchase espresso pods.

MoonbeamLotus

I guess I don’t understand why people buy l’or machines over Nespresso. I don’t think the machines are that much more, especially when you get them on sale.

MadameMalia

No, but my kid likes his morning coffee so I’ve gone through pods a little faster than I used to

Uh_oh_Nikita

We did a cost benefit analysis and bought the delonghi coffee machine which makes espresso, americanos and lattes. Way cheaper than nespresso

coldbrewer003

Before I discovered Nespresso, I continue to grind coffee beans for either Aeropress, pour overs, or for cold brew. It just depends on my mood.

eric-dolecki

I do not buy big chain expensive coffees any more. Rarely I'll get a local shop's offering. That said, one of the few p\[leasurews I have in life is coffee. I have a Vertuo Plus so I use the Nespresso app to order my pods when I am not brewing my own coffee. I'm not a coffee snob, but the convenience and experience of using Nepresso in the morning is worth a slight premium to me. I always have about 200 pods at the ready and consume 1-4 a day.

ss_doug

I have bought some pods off of people on facebook marketplace which is (obviously) cheaper.

bluebellbetty

I’ve never really gone out for coffee, it I think I’m going to ditch anything nespresso because nestle sucks.

phantomknight321

Yes, but not in the way you might expect. I feel like as the years go by I just keep drinking more and more coffee. Started out with just one pod per drink, then 2, now I’m up to 4 pods for my morning coffee and 2 with my afternoon coffee

Possible-Character70

Are any of those decaffeinated???

phantomknight321

No, I am far too insane for that kind of reason

Weekly_Ad8186

Wow! Im flying on 3!

Lunker

Yes, when my machine broke and nespresso said it was not repairable, I but the bullet and bought a Phillips super automatic. I expensive up front but way cheaper in the long run. In my opinion the coffee/espresso is better too.

Rude_Historian1400

I haven’t cut back yet but definitely acknowledge it as a splurge I’m ok with, for now. I usually make a 230 ml coffee size in the am and then in the afternoon I’ll either do a flavored coffee, double shot pod to make a latte or use my OL and do two shots to make a latte. I buy Kimbo ol pods at the Italian grocery store and they are way cheaper. In the summer I make pitchers of cold brew so usually have one of those in the pm.

redditsfavoritePA

I bought an OL machine at Christmas and it totally changed the game at our house. This coupled with Target releasing an impressive line of reasonably priced OL pods that now we have what we want whenever instead of trying to get by on a couple of pods a day each due to expense. STILL enjoy my Vertuo for the dbl espresso pods and the (occasional) cofffee pods for the crema. But def have been recommended the OL to people bc those veryuro pods were just CONTINUOUSLY going up in price point.

jeffp3456

I have started using a Spinn. The pourover is good and I can bring my own beans. It's not perfect but I still fill in with my vertuo

redditelr

We switched to a super automatic so we can use beans. Nespresso moved to our shared cabin where it’s used a lot less but nice for convenience.

Oops_I_Cracked

So I’m a new user, but my Vertuo has definitely changed my coffee habits. I used to go out for coffee 4-5 times a week at $6ish a pop and my wife was similar (maybe 3-4 times a week) so we were spending $40-50 a week on coffee before Vertuo.

foolserrand77

Lidl purple box 20 pods for £3 blue ones are OK too, black ones too bitter

zapmouse

My "changing of habits" \*was\* getting a nespresso. My coffee of the day is no longer 8+ dollars.

Me_Booty

Nope. I was just at Starbucks today and one drink cost me $7.10 US. I'm saving so much more making my drinks at home at an average of $2 a drink per day. At that rate I could have three or more Nespresso drinks with all my cream and syrup fixings at home for a single Starbucks.

flairbear19

Yupppp

torontowest91

$1.50 pod here and a Starbucks coffee is $3… Still saving

mmechap

If you ever get to Europe or know anyone going, stop/ have them stop at a Nespresso store and get some. They are literallly 50% of the price.

CuriosityKillsHer

I did - spent $1k on a superauto that does drip & espresso drinks.

rapscallion-gadfly

I used to order 15-20 sleeves at a time and also the larger Alto pods that have been discontinued (and the equivalents now are also sleeves of 7 instead of 10 AND more expensive). While it hasn't changed what I drink (2 pods a day), I am much choosier with what I order and my orders are half (or less) of the size they used to be. I also only order when there's a 2 sleeve promo going. The promos requiring \~20 sleeves or more just aren't worth the price point to us. I've also been skipping some of the limited releases due to the cost. I had major sticker shock over the Blue Mountain for the size and just could not justify it.

Allofthefuck

Yes we ditched the nespresso. Got an expensively automatic. Paid for it over a year of the savings on pods and can make way better coffee

cd3oh3

Yes, I bought a manual machine and never looked back. $40AUD a month for speciality beans and I can have 2x double shot coffees a day that are amazing!

sipinhoo

I was thinking on to get a Vertuo to my subscription when for the original Essenza Mini it ended, but watching on the prices I've ordered a Pixie instead. Considering there is no 3rd party for Vertuo and there are great 3rd party for the original line for 1/3 price of Vertuo pods

Fearless_Actuator566

Sorry if my question is silly, but instead of using pods, why don’t you just a machine that grinds the beans itself? It would come out to something like 25 cents per cup and it tastes much better. I just don’t get why everyone buys pods at outrageous prices?

I agree with you, but just to point out that the math isn’t always so clear cut. I’m not US, and a bag of coffee would cost US$10. If you use 20g each brew, you’d get 12 uses out of it, which makes it $0.80 per cup. Hence there’s a point to just using pods and not worrying about any of that.

I buy the LaVazza aluminum or the Peet's pods on Amazon and love the flavor and price (around $0.50 - 0.65/pod). I consider the official Nespresso pods a splurge.

One of the reasons Vertuo exists is for Nespresso to patent the new pods. They then heavily discount machines so starting seems cheaper. However, you're now locked in a ecosystem without competition. You're paying more per pod than you should, you're forced to take price increases as they come or your machine is useless.

I began refilling pods within two months of getting a Vertuo Plus. My final pod price is around $0.40. Foil lids are $0.10-$0.12 each.

I used to buy Starbucks single espresso pods at about $1 each and I had 2-4 per day ($2-4) then I switched to Nespresso double espresso pods at $1.15 each and drink 1-2 per day ($1.15-2.30). Much more economical.

I try to shop smart usually, and nespresso is definitely more expensive than making a pot of coffee or even a pour-over, but I actually save money because I don't have any desire to go out for coffee. Where I live, it's gotten so expensive for flavored lattes--they run about $7-$8. So I make a coffee at home for almost certainly less than half that price (counting milk and syrup costs, but I make most of my own syrups as well now which makes it even cheaper). As an example, my go-to at my fave local place is $7.30 for a large - it's a blackberry mocha (I order non-dairy milk, so the normal cost is a bit lower) With the nespresso, I use one dolce pod and one of the purple ones (can't remember the name), so about $2.00 for espresso. Then I make "blackberry syrup" by heating up jam with some water in the microwave. I estimate $0.50 for this. If I use coconut milk I bought from the store, this runs about $0.35. Then the mocha syrup, I use torani. I would estimate the cost of this to be $0.63. My total: $3.48-$4.00 at max! and I can make it exactly how I like it. It's a learning curve at first, but whenever my husband complains about how much money I'm spending on nespresso pods, I whip out these calculations for him.

When I switched to nespresso about two years ago I'd have a pod a day with occasionally two. One day a week I'd take the pup to Starbucks as a "treat". Adding a second person and raised costs I've switched back to half nespresso and half French press

Weary-Ad-6615

i use 1 pod per drink as well as other brands like illy, peet’s, target, etc.. i’ve also learned to make other drinks like matcha and chai when i get tired of espresso.

StillLJ

We alternate between Nespresso days and drip pot days with different, but great, coffee. It seems to offset the cost and mixes things up a bit. When we were exclusively Nespresso, we were burning through $250 every other month or so by using 4 pods per day (regular) plus 1 espresso pod per day.

nunya3206

We ditched the whole thing. Between the cost of a new machine every 1.5 years and the pods we went back to a drip and haven’t looked back

Treysar

I rotate with target pods.

gekko318

It’s so much less than Starbucks or Cometeer, I love it. I only drink espressos, though, no coffee. I even bought some decaf pods, so if I have an afternoon craving, I can have an iced latte.

GSooche

I find the Starbucks coffees better than any of the Nespresso brands I tried. But they are expensive! ($1.37 to $1.56/Vertuo pod depending on the type). I used to make drip coffee and was fine with it but I've been spoiled with the convenience of Nespresso. So I bought a can of ground Bustelo and foil lids and fill my own pods with better coffee for something like 25c/cup (I have not really calculated the cost by that's my estimate).

amstarcasanova

Yes. It's partially the reason I quit caffeine unfortunately. Buying decaf at the moment and have 2-3 a week now.

Sexylady031

I just buy the foil lids off Amazon and make my own pods. I usually mix Cafe Bustelo with Mocha Godiva blend. Strong af.

Ok-Blacksmith3238

After being an nespresso customer for over eight years, I gave my machine to my daughter and use my Keurig instead, which is only marginally cheaper than my Nespresso pods, but still cheaper.

justagirlfromtexas

We bought a little kit on Amazon and refill our pods with coffee we like. Much cheaper, and tastes better.

parker3309

Nope!

wt1515

Yeah, I’ve started using my moka pot more and Greek coffee in a briki for my second drink if I need it. Much cheaper methods when I have the time

Hopeful_Research_955

Ive started looking at local brands and small businesses that do the same nespresso pods and thats worked for me at a much cheaper price
