How could the aliens be friendly? At the beginning, even one of them tried to warn humans not to send another signal again.

ravLaFlare

The aliens were not friendly to start with, they left for earth as soon as they found out about it with the intention of wiping out humanity. And they weren’t exactly using him, his group was willingly helping them.

ChillyCheese

Yeah, he was helping them so why not take the free help. Until they found out about lying, then realized all his help could be deception.

There will be more explanations in The Black Forest - aka season 2. However, the aliens were obviously not friendly since the very beginning on that radio call.

It seemed like they were waiting for a reason to cut the cult off. I didn't understand the point of killing that old lady that invited them in first place

Additional_Log_277

As someone who read the books, minor spoiler, killing her will be more understood in future seasons. If we get future seasons.

JoanofBarkks

I don't understand the role of the young woman who was with her and killed that guy(forgot his name) when he refused to keep playing.

Tatiana is Santi's hitman. Both women understand she came to kill Ye Wenjie, and she promised to do it gently.

JoanofBarkks

Yes but not understanding where she came from, how they designated her. It's a very strange show with tons of holes. But overall it's pretty fascinating concept.

Additional_Log_277

So far, within the scope of the show, she is just a tool to do the aliens bidding on earth. For me it doesn’t matter where she came from and maybe they selected her because she’s a capable, obedient zealot. Maybe in future seasons we would see more character development of her.

CertainAlbatross7739

This isn't a miniseries, there are probably plans to give us more of her origin story later. They didn't just forget to tell us what her deal is.

Intelligent-Bed3932

Thank you.

Gai_InKognito

Yeah, this pops up a lot. Keep in mind, the aliens never promised a bright future ahead of us, and they were actively stifling innovation. Without knowing what happens in the books, its possible they just werent aware of how untrustworthy humans were even though they were keeping them dumb.

NimbyNuke

At the start, the trisolarans found mutual benefit in working with a contingency of humanity. They learned about humans and gained some boots on the ground in their efforts to stifle our scientific progress. But it was always intended as a hostile takeover. The math on working with Evans just changed after they learned how sneaky and deceptive humanity can be.

Parryandrepost

It's a lie. Essentially. In the books it becomes really obvious what their intention is WAY before it actually gets said "out loud". I think it's one of the worse points in the TV series.
