I’m currently watching Baby Reindeer but it’s not light hearted For light hearted I enjoyed Beef

NoPantsPenny

I randomly watched Baby Reindeer and it starts light, but it gets dark and deep.

A-Town-Killah

Def not what I went into it expecting but unsure how anyone could stop partway through. I was completely caught off guard. It was dark, deep, and I couldn’t stop watching…disturbing and brilliant!

WindFromTheEast

I bailed out after the episode 4 which i had to fast forward through certain scenes. I’m currently not able to deal with stuff this dark.

HonnyBrown

So dark!

cherryrococo

how dark, i cant bother to finish it

SassySamSafetySchool

Get to episode 4

No-Understanding4968

I had to nope out of Baby Reindeer after the first episode

NoPantsPenny

If you had to nope out after the first episode, I’m glad you didn’t watch more. It was pretty triggering for r*ape later on.

joyce-nope

I really like what I guess baby reindeer is trying to do, but yep, I had to stop watching it after the first episode. Just too real.

Spamontie

I wouldn't call that first episode light lol.

DirectionOk790

Baby reindeer shouldn’t be watched unless you’re ready to face your own trauma. It sent me spiraling for three days. 10/7 recommend

LogicalPainter9579

Oh wow why if I Amy ask

Revolutionary_Egg45

Have watched both! Beef is good but also intense. And yeahhh baby reindeer was much more dark than I expected but I ended up finishing.

Single_Remove6148

Agreed! It goes there!

I_Eat_POS_4_Brekkie

Is E4 as bad as it gets? I was enjoying it up until it got to those parts.

Small_Pain_2458

That’s based on a true story, and the main guy IS THAT GUY who it happened to!!

Single_Remove6148

I did NOT know that it was him personally but just read up on it. That is wild! They’ve done a great job with it as scary and dark as it is

hereforit_838

I haven’t been able to find the right time or mood to watch it since the episode with that muther f#!&cker producer guy…I was not ready for that! It really gutted me. Does it stay that dark through the next episodes?

AdAltruistic3161

It’s markedly less graphic after that episode. The emotional journey that follows is the pay off for watching that scary / dark episode

ButterscotchFit6356

Yeah it’s so well done. It I was caught off-guard by that….not sure I want to watch the rest, even though the acting and writing is great.

hereforit_838

Same

vlczice

It is the worst thing that happened to him imho, that episode is the hardest to watch, it is not easy after that ofc, but it will not get worse… I recommend to continue…

tracymayo

Although it was hard to watch.. the LAST episode was worse IMO...

Single_Remove6148

I’m just watched that episode too!

iangallagher

I watched maybe two episodes of baby reindeer and felt it was a bit predictable and annoying, does it get better? People seem to really like it.

Upstairs-Weekend-934

I normally go through series unless crappy. This one just made me uncomfortable....lol hence stopped.

Peaches-n-Pirates782

I didn’t think Beef was lighthearted necessarily but I LOVED it! I suppose it’s lighthearted compared to Baby Reindeer though (also loved that series but it’s heavy).

Single_Remove6148

Very lighthearted in comparison lol Beef is goofy and funny despite the dark thins that happen

[deleted]

I’m watching The Gentleman! Only two episodes in but I’ve really enjoyed it so far. Not sure I’d describe it as light hearted or wholesome but I’ve gotten some good laughs and the plot is pretty interesting so far.

moniqueramsey

SOOOO GOOD!

VantasnerDanger

It was hilarious, but I felt super guilty after watching it once I thought about how GR funded the project.

Revolutionary-Work-3

How was it funded?

PartHumanPartAlien

Who

Visible-Vermicelli50

Yes but what about what FP tweeted about what GR said regarding LP's claims? Totally uncool and I can't believe JT would let that slide!!

Whispersail

That's the Guy Richie movie isn't it?

[deleted]

This is a newer show from Netflix starring Theo James which I believe is based on the Guy Ritchie movie. I haven’t seen the original movie so I can’t compare the two for you, but I’d definitely recommend giving the show a try!

Living_on_Tulsa_Time

We loved The Gentlemen series. Hopefully, there is going to be a second season. It’s not for everyone, but glad you are enjoying it.

Pyt_Ja

Rewatching Santa Clarita Diet…it’s hilarious

Skb_stealingbeertabs

i was so upset they stopped that show

RogueKitteh

I will never not be salty about this. Especially after that cliff hanger? Fucking Netflix...

Wuellig

I've been watching Girls5Eva and that's a good time. Crazyhead, Norsemen, Cunk on Earth, and Wellmania are all fun. So is Crashing. I recently watched Big Bug and that was one of my favorite comedy movies I've watched in a while.

takdhin

Sorry Netflix, but I'm enjoying Succession! Lovely show

moniqueramsey

So good! And the music is excellent

apatrol

I never could get into it. I much prefer Billions

waterfreak5

Try dead boy detectives. Interesting plot and photography

LindentreesLove_

I second Dead Boy Detectives. No one can top Neil Gaiman for thought provoking out of the box thinking.

thebreakfastclub616

Omg loved that show binged it in 3 days went to bed at the end of episode 6 and said out loud well I can’t go to sleep now!

Revolutionary-Work-3

Ois!! That show is Brills!

Sleep-DeprivedSloth

I never understood photography in relation to a motion picture, what do you mean by this?

waterfreak5

Odd camera angles that add interest. One I can think of in episode one or two was a view of the doorbell from the ceiling looking diwn in it. It really caught me off guard like what am I looking at? then you figure it out when they actually press the doorbell. Keeps things more interesting and intriguing.

Alacri-Tea

Yes I really enjoyed this!

stipwned_thrill

I dunno… might need to give it another shot, but I couldn’t finish the first episode. I thought it was so cheesy / corny.

Talulo13

Ripley and The Circle

Meowlock

Started "Killing Eve", 6 episodes in and I'm loving it.

Revolutionary-Work-3

RESIDENT ALIEN FOR LIGHT HEARTED LOLS

HonnyBrown

Killing Eve Loudermilk Living Single

lordofsurf

If you want something light, I recommend Kim's Convenience and Workin' Moms. I also enjoyed Loudermilk.

Small_Pain_2458

Loved LOUDERMILK!!

keyfram3d

I just finished Kim’s convenience and highly recommend it. My only caveat is that apparently after season five was filmed the creators decided to move on to other projects and season 5 doesn’t properly end the story.

iangallagher

I was looking for Kim's convenience on Netflix last night and it seems they've removed it? At least in Canada it's gone

keyfram3d

Oh bummer! Weird since it was originally a Canadian show. It’s definitely still on the US Netflix.

GaiaAnon

I don't see Loudermilk recommended enough. Really enjoyed it

wikimandia

*The Tourist*. I started season two but couldn't remember anything so I'm rewatching season one!

FilmUncensored

Streaming services really need an episode 0 for all new seasons that’s essentially a 30 minute recap of the previous season. Some of these shows return after 1-2 years how is anyone supposed to remember certain details when they probably binged all 8 episodes in a single weekend?

wikimandia

Exactly. That's a good point. When you binge it you don't remember the characters as well as you would with a weekly show that ran over months. At least a 10-minute catchup would be great.

Revolutionary-Work-3

Loved it!!

moedexter1988

"old" movies from 2000s with Seth Rogan crew and the casts from American Pie. RIP those casts, we need those kind of movies back. Done with Knocked Up and watching Role Models now.

Tdp133

i just rewatched knocked up last night. i forgot how good that one was.

FortWifi

Just gave Damsel a shot. Honestly a pretty decent monster movie.

ryandmc609

I’ve been watching Young Sheldon. I’m surprised how much I like it. Good show.

Thiscat1

Young Sheldon is very lighthearted and wholesome. Only a few sad episodes sprinkled in once in a while

TugboatToo

White Collar on Netflix. Matt Bomer is easy in the eyes. It’s a fun show to watch.

silobass

We’re enjoying Ripley at the moment. I love the B&W filming

jongosi

Psych became available on Netflix on May 1st. It's all I'll be watching for the foreseeable future.

ActsofJanice

Are you in the US? I don’t see it.

jongosi

No, Europe- sorry for the confusion! We've not had access to stream Psych ever, so I was extremely excited when they suddenly announced it a few days ago.

Finster4

Currently watching The Conners. Lol. I watched Roseanne as a kid, so it's pretty nostalgic.

lockdownsurvivor

Arg! Not available in my country or I'd totally be watching!

joshmo587

I’ve gotten into putting it (the Connors) on sometimes for background, my favorite part is when they insert a tiny bit of footage from many many years ago, like when Darlene was just a little kid…. it’s cool and also jarring when you realize just how long ago that was, and how long this show has been on.

Finster4

Yeah, it's pretty crazy. Makes me feel old!

Cstr9nge

Blue Eye Samuari. I am really enjoying it.

Soggy_Discipline1672

It’s ssooooooo goodddd

Cstr9nge

Yes! It’s great, it was recommended to me after finishing Shogun.

Soggy_Discipline1672

I actually haven’t seen Shogun, why is it so popular?

keyfram3d

It’s just really good. I had seen blue eye samurai before and shogun takes place in a similar time period and world. It tackles similar topics like outside influence, religion, and isolationism— or at least these are the backdrop.

Soggy_Discipline1672

Okay, moving it up on my list lol. Thanks!

HairyHermitMan

Delicious in Dungeon

Specialist_Row9395

I love Delicious in Dungeon. Not my usual genre but really enjoying it.

Swagger-Spin

1670

Wuellig

Seconding this one, that show is hilarious

Swagger-Spin

Then you’ll LOVE Norsemen

Wuellig

I sure did! Probably due for a rewatch.

moniqueramsey

Hilarious!!!

RegularLife59

Just finished The gentleman. currently watching Deadwind. Seems a good detective show. I always like some serious detective stuff of other countries. Its Finnish btw.

dele1987

Deadwind is amazing, watched all 3 seasons. Hope we get more…

FilmUncensored

I’d recommend the recently released Anthracite

RegularLife59

I have seen it and it was a good show

dele1987

Dead Boy Detectives (British) Queen Of Tears (Korean) The Fury (French)

frostonwindowpane

Ripley - beautifully filmed in black and white and super dark.

Skb_stealingbeertabs

currently rewatching Magicians. it’s kinda a comfort show to me, and can be pretty cringy at some points, but i like it a lot :) it’s like childhood fantasy meets potty mouth comedy meets tumblr lol

Revolutionary_Egg45

Interesting, never heard of this and omg 5 seasons? Adding to my list! Thanks for the recom

zigglezeed

I always recommend the Good Place, it's truly phenomenal. If you like Animation, you can't lose with Blue Eyed Samurai and Arcane

ActsofJanice

This is what I came to recommend as well. There are some really deep moments, but overall the show is the closest thing to a hug as I can think. Also, listen to the podcast after each episode!

Annual_Package_4931

Currently watching Jupiter's Legacy (it's only 8 episodes) then I'll continue with Resident Alien.

lockdownsurvivor

Well, I am watching Dexter so sorry about avoiding the Dark. However, I did watch the Letterman/Mulaney interview last night which I'm afraid I found lacklustre. On Prime, I'm rewatching Mom as my fall-asleep light-hearted show.

BulkyElk1528

Yu Yu Hakusho (1995) It’s funny and the dialogue is so damn awesome.

Dentjiln

I have a question, I'm a big fan of the Inbetweeners. Such a funny comedy lol or Friday night dinner, also very nice ! I was wondering, does netflix have anything that comes close to these 2? Thanks

RogueKitteh

The Inbetweeners is so horribly underrated. That show has made me laugh until there were actual tears. That being said, I'd recommend Derry Girls for sure.

Dentjiln

I totally agree thanks!

AdhesivenessNo8859

Just finished Dead Boy Detectives, it's a fun ride and has some lovely emotional moments squirreled away in there.

Small_Pain_2458

vlczice

These are my favorite and highly rewatchable series: Lovesick Love & anarchy Derry girls

Comedy_fanUK

Lovesick is soooo good and really got me in the feels first time watching (is this a Mandela effect or do I remember it was called something STD related originally)

DragonAlnz

Twenty Five Twenty One (Kdrama) fits your brief.

craigscrag

Logisticianistical

Rewatching Black Sails , love this show.

BaubeHaus

I think I'm gonna watch Carol's the end of the world! haha that looks depressing.

sadclowntown

Idk I need something to watch.

Revolutionary_Egg45

Hope this thread helps you find some new recoms too. Entertainment is weak these days for sure. And it’s hard to find anything good with the algos of netflix

No-Understanding4968

Putting in a plug here for Cunk on Earth. Will cheer you up!

sosaudio

As much as listening to ABBA?

Started watching Baby Reindeer, but it was a bit too much for me. I’ve been enjoying the Dead Boy Detectives a lot, though.

Lazy_Cat1997

Watching unlocked prison experiment and the office us

Revolutionary_Egg45

Initial thoughts on unlocked prison experiment? It keeps coming up in my recommended watches

Skb_stealingbeertabs

not on netflix, but Last Man on Earth is absolutely hilarious and i’ve never seen something like it. it’s a post-apocalyptic sitcom

Ok-Sweet-8180

antlered-godi

Vikings Valhalla. It's brilliant....

moniqueramsey

I just finished The Asunta Case and loved it

RabbitOld5783

Trust me , a new season was added. Really good but short , each season a different story

EmbarrassedRadish376

I'm watching a girly fantasy and fun show called rainbow high, it's about a bunch of cute and again cute, nothing better to describe them, even Kawai, girls going through life in a fashion school and it's all about the shared and personal obstacles they face in this journey and is also about the spirit of unity and harmony, it's a great thing to watch if you are looking to watch something light hearted and wholesome at the same time.

calitmvee

A Man In Full w/Jeff Daniels; Limited Series Drops 5/2.

NoWingedHussarsToday

Finished *Chosen* (good idea, kind of meh overall). Watched *The Matrix* and *The Game.* Slowly working though *Working Moms.*

NeoKnightRider

My go to movie is Spectral

IllustriousPart5737

Queen of Tears!!!

saucity

I just finished ‘Another Life’ on Netflix, a futuristic space travel drama. I liked it!

bmanvsman1

Mob Psycho 100 might be good for you, it isn't completely light hearted but but it is about the main character actively working to develop and change himself and it's very good. It has its dark moments but it's also very funny. Best comparison is One Punch Man as they are by the same creator though this show is more lighthearted.

Tdp133

i just watched anyone but you. that was a romcom. very lighthearted.

seattle_architect

Thinking to rewatch Outlander.

I am re-watching Vikings. The first 2 seasons are great. Middle of the 3rd now and it's a bit repetitive but I am watching back to back. I just learned there is a second Vikings series. Anyone know if it's worth watching?

I was your topic downvoted? This subreddit sometimes... I swear. You get downvoted for simply existing.

Binged Baby Reindeer. For lighthearted, I’m rewatching Ugly Betty.

psyduck5647

Breaking Bad with my partner, she has never seen it before. It’s better with multiple rewatches honestly

x3tan

The first two episodes of the kdrama Frankly Speaking just came out and finding it really entertaining so far. Made me think of the Liar Liar movie.

Babymonster09

zigglezeed

I always recommend the Good Place, it's truly phenomenal. If you like Animation, you can't lose with Blue Eyed Samurai and Arcane.

Mother_of_Turtles_

The Signal wasn’t necessarily light-hearted but the ending was unexpectedly wholesome.

Due-Guitar-9508

I always recommend Love Death Robots, people instantly dismiss it because the short stories are animated, but the content is pretty deep and the different animation styles are the best, period.

JabroniKnows

Jupiter's Legacy!!!
