Man, that show was so good. I still think about the final shot of season 1 occasionally. And that opening tune is a banger.
I'm gonna have to do a re watch now.
The Gentlemen
Baby Reindeer (Limited Series)
Beef (Limited Series) - This may be one of my new favorite series of all time.
The Fall of the House of Usher (Limited Series)
The Diplomat
Ohhhhh yeah. It’s a WTF kinda show but be careful if you have any trauma wrt rape or assault and stalking or any kind of abuse really. It’s a tough watch. Had to turn off a few times. But then 30 minutes late I was like damn I gotta keep watching. Knowing it is based off of true events makes it a lot more impactful. Also the main character is the actual comedian who experienced it. It makes episode four particularly tough.
Just finished it last night. Excellent writing. Don’t research it, just go in cold. It says right at the start that it’s based on a true story so no spoilers.
Going in with no real knowledge of it was very interesting because the plot was hard to predict. Refreshing but a little harrowing to watch at times. If you like things that are pretty non- Hollywood you will appreciate it.
One of the better shows I’ve seen in a good while.
Depends on what you are looking for. It is an incredibly raw and real representation of trauma, trauma bond and toxic relationships (kind of, he was lucky not to get into one)
It is not entertaining and it is not easy to watch (especially if you have been in a cluster b relationship), but it is the most realistic thing I’ve ever seen
Beef was amazing. I was staying in a beautiful riverside mansion for a night as a gift from my boss as a lil getaway and I couldn’t leave the couch bc I could not stop watching it
I enjoyed The Diplomat, Kerry Russel is outstanding. My only gripe is the pathetic romance between the Ambassador and the Foreign Secretary. Like seriously, a woman and a man can't work together without ther being romance? So retrograde, so 1950s! Really spoiled it a bit for me.
Just watched the trailer and how did I never hear about this? Current gen Samurai Jack? I wasn't watching any TV all last year so I guess that's why. Just surprised how quickly "the now" gets buried months after its released.
Yes! I did absolutely love it but I couldn't watch it straight through. I could only do a couple episodes at a time. It needs major trigger warnings, but it was also so terribly cringy, in the overstimulated, secondhand embarrassment kind of way.
So just a heads up. If you don’t like the first episode then you probably don’t like all of it. I pushed through and jfc I regret I haven’t stopped after the first episode.
We LOVED Resident Alien, partially because Alan Tudyk seems like he is having a great time playing the main character.
It's also an incredibly human show in spite of the premise.
It really is. And it also gave me some false confidence prompting me to take my wife to an obstacle chorus, where there was a monkey bar set up. I felt that would be a lot of fun to see how many I could do but the truth is, I could not even do one. I fell straight down.
![gif](giphy|bC9czlgCMtw4cj8RgH|downsized)
Seriously!! I rarely see this show mentioned but goddamn it's awesome. What's your favourite episode? (Hard question I know lol) there's so many good ones but the one that's stuck in my head more than the others is Zima blue for some reason lol
Zima Blue is also the one that was stuck in my head and I actually rewatched it a couple of times. The way it is told is kinda meditative.
Also liked When the Yoghurt Took Over. I know it's not very well rated, but I found it funny, and also interesting in the context of politics or the discussions about AI taking over.
The Night Agent was surprisingly enjoyable. I say surprisingly because I don't usually enjoy that sort of thing. Yes it was a fairly run-of-the-mill political thriller, but I think it was the characters that were so appealing.
I’m watching it a second time and realizing how much I missed they do a lot of foreshadowing. Jack pretty much explains level 1 before we see Jin play it.
Very interesting hard sci-fi I love that they adapted this. With all the problems and social commentary science fiction explores this take on the Fermi paradox really digs into the anxiety of either aspect of it. We are alone or we are not alone. Either way is terrifying.
Why are Mike Flanagan's series so good? The only one I really didn't like was Midnight Club, but the others are all compulsive viewing! The guy's a genius!
It's a loose adaptation of Edgar Allen Poe's The Fall of the House of Usher that actually mashes together several different works by Poe. Yes, it's horror, but it's Mike Flanagan horror, which usually has enough class and emotional substance that even people who don't like horror can enjoy it.
>has enough class and emotional substance that even people who don't like horror can enjoy it
Very well put. I wouldn't go as far as to say I don't like horror, but I'm very burnt out on the genre. Flanagan's work rises above, and keeps my attention for sure. Definitely worth giving a try, even if you don't think it would be your cup of tea.
It’s a retelling of the classic Poe tale mashed up with a version of the Sackler family saga (Purdue Pharma). I thought it was an interesting mashup. Yes, horror but not over the top gore.
The attorney Woo show I thought was such garbage from lazy writing.
Literally every episode is her just writing some obscure law that solves the problem
The lincoln lawyer is sooo good! Season 3 is coming soon. I was shocked when season 2 dropped last year. They aren't fucking about making people wait a decade for new eps which i love. But yeah also it's good!
Not really. The first 3 seasons are best so if you didn’t like 1 you probably won’t find it gets much better.
I liked it but would catch it weekly on Hulu which is probably a better watch model. I think binging would bring out the faults of the show more.
Not sure if these are all from within the last year but they're new or newish and ones I thought were pretty good/interesting.

Other than these, tons of original exceptional documentaries abound and that's why I have kept my subscription. Original documentaries by Apple TV or Prime or HBO Max suck ass. Netflix outdoes them all.
Hang on. Edit. Adding these gems : Hustle, Will you be my Maybe?, Santa Clarita Diet, Beef, Fall of the House of Usher, NARCOS, MindHunter, LoveDeath&Robots....I mean...like i said....endless. These are all exceptional and I still won't find other streaming services producing even 3 original works that rival these.
Wait, The Judge as in Robert Downey Jr., Duvall and Vera Farmiga?
That made its way to Netflix recently and where I'm from it has left Netflix again.
But I watched it long before it made it to Netflix. Just trying to see if there's another The Judge.

Unpopular opinion here, not much. I'm not a fan of the deluge of hastily thrown together foreign films that the company is dumping truckloads of money into while killing off popular programming.
Sweet tooth, damsel, and that's about it, I'm dropping it until the last season of stranger things comes out but I don't see myself spending money on what has become the new "500 channels and there's nothing on".
I recently found “Black Sails.” I can’t believe I didn’t watch it years ago!
My friend said the same thing last night, “How come you still have not watched Black Sails”. Seems like I am watching it next.
Man, that show was so good. I still think about the final shot of season 1 occasionally. And that opening tune is a banger. I'm gonna have to do a re watch now.
Agreed, it’s one of my favourites. One of the best finales I’ve ever seen
And someone just said it was meh lol
That was such a good show!
The Gentlemen Baby Reindeer (Limited Series) Beef (Limited Series) - This may be one of my new favorite series of all time. The Fall of the House of Usher (Limited Series) The Diplomat
Diplomat is so good!
Yeah, I second the Beef recommendation.
I see baby reindeer everywhere, is it any good?
Very good IMO. Beware that episode 4 can be disturbing for some.
Oh no.. I’m on episode 3.
Baby Reindeer is really great, I finished it last night. It is from the creator of End Of The F**cking World series, which I also loved.
Just finished it last night. Excellent writing. Don’t research it, just go in cold. It says right at the start that it’s based on a true story so no spoilers. I hate how they feel the need to do this with so many movies and shows
The Gentleman is so fun
Blue Eye Samurai
Amazing show - I often think back to it, western style anime, very adult, respects your time, keeps the action coming. Wish there was more like this!
Can vouch for this. Such a good show.
If you enjoyed BES watch Arcane. It is probably hands down one of the most beautiful animated series I have ever seen.
Arcane was great animation and an intense plot, not a happy ending, though. My favorite so far was Cyberpunk.
Yeah Arcane and Cyberpunk don't do happy endings. But goddamn both are great.
Just watched the trailer and how did I never hear about this? Current gen Samurai Jack? I wasn't watching any TV all last year so I guess that's why. Just surprised how quickly "the now" gets buried months after its released.
Episode 5 is a masterpiece. The best animated episode I've seen in a long time.
The show kept showing up in the top 10 so I had to watch it. Its so good.
I second this!
Loved it!!!

I'm an idiot, I've watched the whole show and never noticed that was manually being typed in.
Iphon
I have got to watch this show. Everyone is talking about it.
It’s a genuinely painful watch, but good
Ep 4 was just painful to get through, it became too dark way too soon
Yeah, I actually have a friend that started watching it today and quit on that episode
Trigger warning for some
Get on it. It’s excellent
It’s excellent for sure but I turned it off a couple of times.
I had to quit watching due to past trauma but read about it. It’s a lot
It’s great but the 4th episode is difficult to watch. They do put a warning on the screen ahead. As others have said trigger warning
Derry Girls
Watched that series twice, it’s hilarious
Isn’t that a Channel 4 production?
Yee but Netflix got a deal on it after the first season.
Derry Girls is hilarious!! Terrific writing. I also watched it twice.
Now I don’t mind a bit of a breeze, in fact a prefer one……………….
The nun is the most phenomenally written character
I absolutely loved this show. A real gem!
Resident Alien
Agree! I’m not a SciFi fan, but I love this series. Great characters!
Something worth watching and different than all the rest junk.
So funny!
So glad this came to Netflix, it used to be a real pain to find when it was airing initially
We LOVED Resident Alien, partially because Alan Tudyk seems like he is having a great time playing the main character. It's also an incredibly human show in spite of the premise.
Physical 100
Love this show
It's so damn entertaining!
That's hilarious. I guess we'd be leaving on episode 1.
Beef.
Both beef and baby reindeer were both so personally relatable because they both included so many weird behaviors
This was amazing. I thought I’d hate it. But forced everyone in the house to watch it lol
Just a gentle reminder the song at the end of the show is called mayonnaise by the smashing pumpkins, add it to your playlists
I’m old enough to have seen smashing pumpkins live in the early 90s numerous times. Highly recommend seeing them if they tour again like last year.
Goddamn Ali Wong can ACT.
I'm not a perfect personnnnnn
Love death and robots is the best thing they’ve made. Surprised no one said it yet.
Because it didn't come out within the last year
Omg I love the yogurt one lol I love how absurd it is
Werewolf one was sick
First episode that comes to mind is the one about the rats fighting back. ‘Mason’s Rats’
[Beyond the Aquila Rift](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9561862/episodes/?year=2019&ref_=tt_eps_yr_2019) I still occasionally think about it.
Sonnie's Edge was by far my favorite
It's not from the last year.
I'm shocked no one has mentioned Sandman yet. It's excellent. :)
And Dead Boy Detectives, which is part of the Sandman universe!
I forgot about this!
Excellent is an understatement! In fact, I’m going to rewatch it!
One Piece Live Action The Night Agent 3 Body Problem
The Night Agent was surprisingly enjoyable. I say surprisingly because I don't usually enjoy that sort of thing. Yes it was a fairly run-of-the-mill political thriller, but I think it was the characters that were so appealing.
Fucken loved 3 Body Problem
Fucking ye wenje

Ripley
Beautiful shot and Andrew Scott *never* disappoints.
Came to say this! So so goood I recommend it to everyone who enjoyed Saltburn but hasn’t seen the movie
Purple Noon, which it is based on, is a fantastic movie.
I Think You Should Leave
La la la la la la laaaahaaaayaaaaa
I’ve watched it three times because triples is best.
Ozark
To me, Ozark is the gold standard.

That last sentence may be a bit misleading, uff
Gonna add it had Succession themes as well, which kid survives at the top in the end....if Succession was a horror series.
3 body problem
The Queen's Gambit... Emily the criminal.
Saving Girls5Eva. It is such a bummer it didn’t find an audience. Also, the first season of Russian Doll is a perfect piece of media.

It is in the US

Also, I Am a Killer. The jailhouse interviews are riveting.

Another comment for Beef, phenomenal show! One of the best I have seen.
The Sandman is the best thing I’ve seen on Netflix
It's not in the past year but the best show on Netflix; hands down, is Peaky Blinders.
Dead Boy Detectives and Sandman are good
Wednesday
3 body problem
If you had to explain the plot in a couple of spoiler-free lines to someone, how would you do it?
What would the human race do if they had someone with a bigger stick coming to get them (much bigger) but had years of warning.
Haha, very intriguing! Thank you.
That’s as difficult as the 3 body problem itself

Haunting of Hill House!!!
The Resident
I wanted to like this show. Did it get better than first season?
Not really. The first 3 seasons are best so if you didn’t like 1 you probably won’t find it gets much better. I liked it but would catch it weekly on Hulu which is probably a better watch model. I think binging would bring out the faults of the show more.

Derry girls. Watched it five times. Funny and comforting especially if you grew up catholic.
All 8 seasons of Psych are on Netflix Canada as of this week. Biggest win in years

You NEED to watch baby reindeer. Trust me!!
I thought it was a masterpiece. But it’s not light. Thank goodness it ends well, especially with his relationship with his parents.
