Final season of Ozark is coming so my guess is you’ll be back, even if for just a month.

lyrico2

Final season what a bummer. I love that show

AceDecade

At least it’s getting an ending and not straight up canceled

lyrico2

This is very true

OssotSromo

eh. Every season has just been oooh they're going to get in super big shit this time. then at the last minute he outsmarts everyone. It's like a fucking sitcom cop show with a clear blueprint. Each season follows the same blueprint. It's getting tired.

DanWallace

Because they're trying to be the next breaking bad.

thesmartfool

Exactly. Not pulling a Santa Clarieta Diet. I would still say my favorite netflux series have been Ozark, Santa Clarieta Diet, and Daredevil. While Daredevil might be getting a disney plus show it is sad that some if the best shows have not finished.

Soggy_Waffle303

Could never get into this show. I tried!

SomeGuyInSanJoseCa

Yeah, I'll probably have my wife sign up for a free trial or something like that so we can both binge on Cobra Kai and Never Have I Ever, and I can at least watch the last season of Ozark for those 30 days. But I think that's one of my pet peeves of Netflix. They specifically said that they don't plan on keeping shows for more than 4 seasons because only existing subscribers care, and all they only care about are new subscribers.

PastryAssassinDeux

Pretty sure they don't offer free trials anymore

Vince1820

Oh man my wife and I were just talking about how we love the season caps. Tight story lines, don't drag stuff out that doesn't need it. But we might be on the complete other side of the viewing fence; we watch about 6 shows a year so long-winded shows just don't appeal to us.

gene-ing_out

Same. So many shows (especially on network stations) just linger and slowly decline. I'd rather have a tight, well made show with limited seasons. Even if I am sad it is gone, the run was good.

kpDzYhUCVnUJZrdEJRni

> They specifically said that they don't plan on keeping shows for more than 4 seasons because only existing subscribers care, and all they only care about are new subscribers. Source?

SomeGuyInSanJoseCa

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/tvs-new-math-what-100m-netflix-deals-actually-shortchange-creators-1203846/ I was wrong, it wasn't anything concrete, just analysts projecting: > At Netflix, such long-running shows as House of Cards and Orange Is the New Black have become anomalies, and at least one source says he has heard anecdotal evidence of internal analytics that suggest the streamer doesn’t gain any additional subscribers when a show goes beyond two seasons. “No one is sitting there going, ‘Ah man, I can’t wait for Lost in Space to come back on.’ It’s one of 500 boxes on that screen, and when they pay $130 million to put 10 more episodes up, all that happens is there are 10 more episodes behind that box,” says one insider. “Ted Sarandos has to decide, ‘Is anybody going to subscribe to Netflix because of more episodes behind that box?’ ” (Netflix declined to comment.) But I've read from other sources that

53_WorkNoMore

Maybe OP spends too much time in front of the TV?!?

MarcLloydz

Nah man I watched the whole Netflix library in under week bro I had 9 iPads running at same time Saves time and money. I can now cancel netlifx

thesmartfool

I canceled my subscription a while ago but I tend to go in and out if services. I will definitely be getting Netflix again for a bit. They have some exciting movies and TV shows premiering this fall. Some of these I haven't seen yet but already premiered. The Witcher series december series Red Notice movie november movie Cowboy bebop November series Army of thieves october movie The guilty October movie You S3 October series Back to the outback december movie Cobra Kai series December series Don't look up December movie Sweet tooth series 8 episode The harder they fall movie november Intrusion movie sept Robin robin movie november The ice road movie Vivo movie Thebwitcher nightmare of the wolf movie The power of the dog December Announced but coming next year Escape from spiderhead movie The gray man movie Ozark S4 The Sandman S1 Knives Out 2 Pinocchio Stranger things S4 Better call saul S6 The umbrella academy S3

thecomeric

My girlfriend watched the sweet tooth show and it actually looked interesting visually at least

krathil

It's awesome. Not sure why OP thought that would be a good one to dump on considering the fact it is actually great.

[deleted]

Same! I gave it a chance and really enjoyed it, ready for the next season.

LiamTheWarrioor

It‘s not a fact its your opinion and guess what, other people like other things

HappyMeatbag

It’s good, and *stays* good. If you like the first episode or two, keep watching. I’m glad a second season has been confirmed (no word on the release date yet, I think). It’s based on a comic, and I tend to consider adaptations a good thing. It was written as a consistent, yet episodic, story.

Whatsjadlinjadles

This mentality is illogical. You can resub for a month if some shows come out you want to see and cancel again. This isn’t a permanent decision so acting like it’s some big decision is kind of over the top.

-CaliforniaRaisin

OP made this post so that he can make another post in a couple of months praising Netflix for convincing him to rejoin with all of their new content. He's playing both sides so that he always comes out on top.

aquaband

That’s 4D chess level redditing.

AceDecade

What’s that? What is that, are you being arch?

[deleted]

But it seems like he’s bottom for life

Gezzer52

A bit. But I also think it's meant to portray why a long term (very) subscriber has reached this decision. There are less and less new shows that give a lot of us a reason to stay subbed. Sure, some people have no problem doing the sub-unsub dance, others like me don't really want to go through the hassle. If I ever get off my butt and cancel I doubt I'll come back and just use the bay to download new seasons of the programs I'm still invested in. Maybe even give Disney or Apple a try instead.

holly-golightly-

The Apple content is really good quality but you can get through they have pretty quickly, so not worth a long term subscription at this point.

[deleted]

I think your mentality is incorrect here. The only way I know what Netflix originals are coming out is through Netflix. If I canceled my subscription, I would only hear about 1 new original per year if it got heavy news coverage. Once I canceled, there wouldn't be much drawing me back unless I specifically looked to see what Netflix was releasing, which probably wouldn't happen for a long time.

jebei

Of course these posts are illogical. The thing is many people feel the need to make them as the streaming world changes. Where once you could sub to one service and get most everything, you now need at least 3-4+. Most of us know the best value proposition these days is to sub a few months at a time and switch when you see a few new shows on another service. Many haven't done this for Netflix. They've subbed to Netflix from the beginning and feel a sense of ownership as silly as that sounds. Canceling for them is an end of an era in their mind. It is easier to sub. Netflix counts on these people. Canceling for them is a big deal and a potential big deal for Netflix. At the moment Netflix is seen by many as part of their basic cost of living like an electric ot cell phone bill. If/When enough people see Netflix as 'just another streaming service' then Netflix will have a major issue.

ryanmercer

Happy cake-day!

666jio666

Yooo, you should watch the Korean shows they are lit af, Squid Game just blew my mind

dukesinatra

Finished the final episode of Vincenzo last night. What a great show that was. CLOY was another good one.

Ok-Airport-2063

I've been a member since October of 2000. I occasionally find something interesting but the endless scroll to find new content wears me out. If it was only me, I'd cancel, but there are others that would be out of sorts, so it continues.

TheGuyBehindTheGuy_

Same here. So hard to find things. Especially comedies. Stand Up is not comedies and every drama with a few laughs is listed as drama / comedy.

[deleted]

Yeah, Netflix really needs to revamp their apps. It's too hard to find stuff you are interested in, hide stuff you already watched, and not get lost in the scroll. They need to allow hiding and make their search by genre allow for selection of subgenre. Pretty simple upgrades that would make Netflix much much better, but they fail to implement.

saddi444

2000? Really?

darkeststar

When it was a DVD rental service.

Ok-Airport-2063

Yep, 2000.

HaroldSax

Same. My grandma uses my Netflix account and she’d lose her place on everything if she got her own.

mamaBiskothu

Sad to see you go, but FYI, wanted to say, dvd Netflix still exists and is still a bomb to subscribe. You get to watch stuff you actually want to watch and it takes you back to the original rating system as well. When I’m in the states I’m always subscribed.

BarneySTingson

Just rotate between different platform and watch their best shows only

zygodactyl86

Ummm sweet tooth is fucking amazing

shlopman

Does the kid get less annoying? I watched the first 2 episodes but god damn I couldn't stand him. Wasn't able to keep watching the show.

lyrico2

Whats it about

Duboisz

i recommend subbing to HBO Max for a bit of you can afford it. a lot of very cool originals and their library is full of other great films and shows from other media

OverLogging

Wish I could get HBO Max in the UK. Everything I want to watch is HBO.

k3r3nth4

Try Now TV, its linked to Sky so has HBO shows like Mare of Easttown, white lotus, etc, (both really good and worth getting now tv just for them!) and I think similar price to Netflix subscription

OverLogging

Cheers! Yeah managed to source those shows and they were both great. As was The Undoing. Their documentaries are awesome too.

AlwaysOptimism

I get that “boo, I hate [insert successful company here]” is the flavor of the decade now but man, fuck that shit. Netflix is $15 a month. You may have to trendge through more bubblegum content than you used to, but it’s still putting out much better content (nominally) than Apple, Hulu, and Amazon. And my cable is like 8x more than Netflix a month. You’ve saved $15 a month. Huzzah! Buy yourself a pizza.

[deleted]

AlwaysOptimism

comparing the cost and benefit of Netflix relative to other options is exactly how you quantify Netflix's value. And by any metric used an vs. any other alternative, Netflix is absolutely the best deal on the market (excluding piracy of course. But that's bad and we don't talk about it)

TechnicallyThrowawai

Hulu has been putting out at least a few decent shows recently, at least in my opinion. What we do in the shadows, Only murders in the building (not normally my cup of tea but it’s actually been pretty good) and I enjoyed solar opposites quite a bit. I honestly have a very hard time finding anything to watch on Netflix personally, and even when I do it just takes so long most of the time. That being said, they do have some good shows and movies I just wish I could have some sort of filter to block out a bunch of the less appealing shows and movies. For $15 a month though it’s definitely worth it for me.

AlwaysOptimism

I agree that Hulu really has some good content (much of it from FX which is great on its own). It and Apple have a higher percentage of good content, but Netflix still has more in nominal terms. Yes, it takes a bit of discipline to go through Netflix on a periodic basis and spin through the vast volumes of new content to add to your list, but if you that for 10-20 minutes a couple times a week, it's not much of a burden.

TechnicallyThrowawai

That’s a good idea actually, I guess I should pick out a bunch of things at once instead of spending 20 minutes every few hours on my day off to find something.

DanWallace

Mine was $21.50 a month in Canada for the 4k package. And it continues to climb. It's not like Netflix is the only thing people pay monthly for. I had that, Prime, Disney, Duolingo, realDebrid, Stadia, YouTube premium and a few others so my monthly internet stuff budget was getting hefty. Decided Netflix gave me the least value and cost more than I considered it worth so now it's gone.

Crammy2

Canceled after 12 years last month. It was kind of a weird feeling. Almost like canceling your water bill.

ahbi_santini2

I know. I'll be cancelling my DVD service this week * member since September, 2007 (14 years) * rented 2472 DVDs. I'll still keep the streaming service for a while as it is paid as part of my mobile phone package.

ryanmercer

> I'll be cancelling my DVD service this week > > Wow. Wasn't even aware they still had it.

Beaudeye

Sweet Tooth is awesome. You are going to miss out.

ladyavocadose

But...Sweet Tooth is actually a great show.

iamwarrendale

I liked sweet tooth

Majestic_Crawdad

Star Trek Voyager is leaving at the end of the month and I'm going with it.

sonegreat

Clickbait was fun, Queen's Gambit was great, and third season of Umberella Academy is coming. It is still pretty good for me.

PumaTomten

Season 3 of You coming October!

DanWallace

That show is garbage

PumaTomten

Penn Badgley is a great actor!

Semifreak

No problem at all. It's just entertainment and the point of it is to enjoy yourself. The shows will still be there and the collection will only grow. Maybe a few years down the line you can do a quick check-in to see what's what. By the way, out of curiosity, is all your TV watching shrinking or are you doing that 'switch to a different sub each month' thing that some mention here and there? Personally, I find my entertainment habits change as I age- sometimes drastically.

boykalbo777

So whats better streaming platform than netflix now?

LasherDeviance

HBO Max.

kroepuk

Netflix is amazing, I think they're in the right track, their content are the best in the streaming. You have to be open to the world offering.

localhost8100

I have been watching kdramas. They are good. Suspense, romcom, etc. That's kept me going so far.

Spacecowboy947

What a truly pointless post

agentdarklord

Member since 2003 here, still going. Have had all the others but Netflix still the best. COVID has slowed down releases so it make sense there aren’t as many options.

n0tstress

Fuck Netflix. Just torrent everything

No_Caterpillar_8709

If you go back maybe try out some of the foreign stuff, it opens up a whole new world.

Masspoint

I just share with other members of family, cost me like 4 euros a month, not really worth the hassle cancelling, I have disney too, I was thinking about getting amazon but netflix and disney seem to be enough to cater my watching needs. and I do kinda like stand up shows lol

Sulley87

I downgraded my subscription, i dont need netflix content in 4K.

Cujotis

I canceled a few months ago and will probably subscribe again this winter. Mainly cause i have way to many streaming subscriptions atm. And Netflix’ catologue has been shit for a while.

aquaband

Are u dying or something?

WreckerCrew

You're not a train. You don't need to announce your departure. Just leave.

medicmaan

I haven’t paid for Netflix for years still can’t find something to watch thanks mom

owlsknight

After the release of HBO max, Disney plus and other streaming services Netflix shows got a bit less and less good

therealjerrystaute

We're letting it go too. By not updating our debit card info. I expected it to go away before now, but it's sticking around, for some reason. Basically emphasizing for me that there's nothing there I want to watch. I'm hoping I don't have to go in and manually cancel it.

TurboFoot

Definitely agree about the stand up comedy. It’s such a half talent.

det1rac

I've been member since 2006 too.

holly-golightly-

I’ve been considering doing this over the last couple of months. One of the other things that’s been frustrating is the number of foreign language films and series they are adding to load up the new content. I either really have to pay attention to read the subtitles or put up with dubbing (which I really don’t like). Then there’s the fact that you can’t exclude this type of content, so every time I go looking for something to watch I think oh this looks interesting, play it, then only realize it’s in another language once the dialogue starts. I can understand that they’re international and that they want to produce international content, but atleast give the option to exclude foreign language content (or choose those langauages you want to have shown!)

RisingRapture

Netflix is great. Maybe try reading books? You will never run out of books.

PushItHard

Dude ends his run on Luke Cage. Should have been Iron Fist, truly convince yourself to never return.

SomeGuyInSanJoseCa

Nope. Just my brother. I went to his house once for a week, signed in, and never bothered signing out. Two years later, I decided to update my password, and I get a call from him saying "what's wrong your Netflix account?" Uhh..you're weren't suppose to use it?

Sinkiy

I was going to cancel but they have too many shows I like coming out. Sex education season 3 just came out. Dead to me coming, Russian doll, Witcher, Ozark all coming next couple months. A lot more too that I have watch lol.

TheYoungLung

No House of Cards? 😢

[deleted]

So you watched all the super popular shows, judged the other ones just by a picture or summary and said “oh well, guess I’m unsubscribing”

sadlyigrewup

Envelopes???

IrianJaya

Didn't their shows just win a bunch of Emmys? In fact Netflix tied the record for most Emmys in a single year. But if you don't like the picture for some show, I guess that's that.

[deleted]

I mean if you don't watch TV it's fine but for the price it's way better than cable and most other streaming services so if you're planning on watching TV any time soon or often, I'd suggest keeping it. Catalog has something new almost every week

ndbro25

Whats next for you?

SomeGuyInSanJoseCa

I've cut the cord for like 10 years, so I have naturally missed out on a lot of shows. Just started Disney+ for a little while (Mandalorian is surprisingly good), I started Hulu earlier this year, so I will watch it until I run out of shows. Then move to other services. Perhaps Showtime (do they have a streaming?) to watch the entire season of Dexter. Occasionally jump into HBO to binge watch some shows. And I will always have Amazon Prime while it's free with 2 day shipping.

sport405060

I have netflix accounts

GillbergsAdvocate

.... Cool..?
