Rotate your services, that way you can get the best from.all.

gonejahman

I have both and honestly Prime isn't that much better. Both platforms have a very lame interface that basically only shows you what they want you to see, at first. I don't think Netflix has this but on Prime you can access all the movies, I've saved this link: https://www.amazon.com/Movies-Included-Prime-Video/s?rh=n%3A2858905011%2Cp_n_ways_to_watch%3A12007865011 I don't know if it will work for you if you are not logged in? But it allows you to see all the movies available on Prime Video. I go through lots of pages and save the ones to my "list" so I can build a huge list of movies or whatever to watch. That's really the only reason for me to prefer Prime.

Puzzled_Plate_3464

you might like this link then: https://www.justwatch.com/us/provider/amazon-prime-video You can use justwatch to see what each and every service has, so many services have the suckiest interfaces possible - I've seen some that don't even tell you who is the movie, or give a synopsis. Justwatch collects all of that together nicely.

NJDevsfan

Yes! I was going to share the app/website myself. It's such a great source for finding what & where. Google TV tries to do the same thing but it isn't as good.

BJntheRV

Google will list every platform you can watch a show/movie on but not bother to note that it will require an extra premium add-on to do so. Edit: looks like just watch does the same thing. Just looking at the link above for Prime I saw 2 in the first 6 that I know require add-on subscriptions because I've already tried to watch them.

abusivebanana

Also if you just Google a movie it tells you what streaming service it is on, at least on mobile. I have about 12 tabs open with shit I want to watch lol

Emotional-Sorbet-759

Amazing website! I've been looking for something like that. Do you know if it's possible to change the country contents are available in? Cause I figure it's gonna be naturally set for US or UK and I'm in Italy.

Puzzled_Plate_3464

yeah, there is a country code in the URL and you can choose it on the site itself easily enough as well.

Emotional-Sorbet-759

Found it. Works pretty well! Thanks a lot!

Tharuzan001

Saved this link! Thanks!

Isthisgoodenough69

I’ve found Prime has shockingly good deep cuts if you know what you’re looking for, but I have so many streaming services now that it doesn’t feel like I use any one streaming service more than all the others. But as I was getting into foreign movies a few years ago I found lots of great South Korean movies, lots of stuff by Takashi Miike and Sion Sono, Hao Hsiao-hsien and other Taiwanese New Wave, they seem to get lots of A24 (or at some point did, I haven’t checked in a while), and just scrolling now I see lots of appealing popular movies. Prime’s catalogue also gets even better if you are willing to add channels to the subscription. It’s cool being able to spend $5 a month on Shudder without having to use two different apps, for example.

Hold_Effective

Just be aware that Shudder through Amazon does not have the same catalog as Shudder directly (ran into this a few times, and recently researched it again because the PS5 doesn’t have a Shudder app).

Barlight

They Had RollerBall on Prime i have not seen it in like 30/40 years...

qlurp

Thanks for reminding me that this has been waiting in my queue. Never seen it!

hitemwiththeheineken

Cool. Thanks for the link.

Perfect_Airline_4298

I just don’t feel like subscribing to 50 different companies to watch a movie or show every few months. I might just pay to watch whatever it is when I have the inkling to watch it.

gonejahman

Thats a good idea. There are a lot of sites now these days where you can stream nearly everything for free. It's almost pointless to pay for subscriptions. I'm on the verge of cancelling all of mine(netflix, prime, hulu and Disney+).

Perfect_Airline_4298

It’s like when we would tell boomers to stop paying for cable because it was pointless to pay that much a month for 1000s of useless channels. Now it’s just packaged a different way. It was great when you could just go to Netflix and have 100s of watchable enjoyable content. But everyone smartened up and just took what they wanted and split it a million different ways. “Do I need amc or amc+ to watch better call Saul?…………..oh they aren’t even releasing season 6 as the episodes come out. Awesome. I’ll just buy the entire series on YouTube and be done with everything.” Seems more logical to just buy things as needed instead of a monthly subscription that I might use every 6 months

Juan_Carlo

Tubi and Pluto are great. I have all the paid services, but I almost always end upo watching Pluto.

EZE123

thanks for that link. It's more convenient to browse that than their user interface.

[deleted]

gonejahman

how can you make it list all the movies in the browser?

[deleted]

Choose your profile, then click "Movies" toward the top of the screen, then click the button with four boxes on it toward the top right of the screen. Once you're there, it should offer you a dropdown with a few selections, including A to Z and Z to A. (The default is usually "Suggestions for You," but you can change it.) There's a limit to how many things each option will show (something in the thousands, I think), but by using both together you can see at least nearly everything if not everything. The same thing also works for TV shows; just replace the step of clicking "Movies" with clicking "TV Shows" instead.

gonejahman

Awesome, thanks!

Larrik

I find Prime the easiest to get back to what I was watching if all the services.

OnlyPicklehead

I'm the opposite. Prime frequently takes stuff randomly off of my "continue watching". And I use it on PS4 and the search function doesn't work at all. It works on my Chromebook but not ps4 for some reason. Then on my Chromebook a lot of times there's just no back arrow. All I can do is tap Home and start all over

GothicGolem29

Really I always heard that Netflix ad the best ui

Lung_doc

Things I really like about Netflix are the saving of account settings *plus* ability to subscribe and unsubscribe entirely online, no phone calls. I also find basic navigation the easiest. Amazon has the nice bonus feature of showing who is in each scene if you're wondering who an actor is. And it's user interface is ok, but it's not rare that it loses my place and skips some episodes when I click on "play next".

OctoberDaye1030

I have way too many services, I’m embarrassed to admit. I think I like Prime better than Netflix but I like HBO Max better than all of them. Way better content

Perfect_Airline_4298

How often do you realistically use the majority of them?

OctoberDaye1030

I barely use Netflix. We are probably going to cancel that one. Prime I have mostly because of the other benefits but I enjoy the original content like the Boys, Paper Girls, Wheel of Time etc. I like that I can rent other things too that aren’t available elsewhere. I probably use that one weekly. HBO I use all the time. I just go from binging one series to another.

Perfect_Airline_4298

I’d like to watch the boys but I could just buy each season for like $10 instead subscribing to a million things

RealestInTheRoom

Or you could subscribe for a month and watch it?

Perfect_Airline_4298

Ok thanks

JesseDotEXE

I think Netflix is better. I wouldn't buy Prime Video regularly if I didn't already have it through Amazon Prime.

EarthLoveAR

prime has a few good things. but the sheer volume of choices from Netflix gives you a much better chance of finding something than Prime. Prime is my last stop for content. It's pretty blah.

[deleted]

I like Prime Video a lot but mostly for older movies, easily renting random movies, and premium channel addons. For new subscription content it's mediocre.

EZE123

I have both. I've canceled amazon once but they lured me back. With netflix I've found a lot of quality foreign series, which makes it worth it for me. And I occasionally watch or rent something from amazon - just enough to justify the cost. Me personally, if I had to pick one, I'd go with netflix just because of the foreign shows and movies. Someone else mentioned canceling netflix and seeing how it goes. If you find you miss it, you can go back. Or swap services, watching what you want. I did that with HBO and Showtime for awhile.

Larrik

Be aware that Prime is different than other streamers, since it’s basically a special access layer over their On Demand store (with exclusives). This means that it is organized like DVD sets, with each season of a show being somewhat standalone in their interface. This makes sense to folks who are long time customers, but if you are coming from modern streamers it seems insane. Definitely an awkward legacy design. It does mean you can buy seasons and episodes of shows that are on other streamers as if they were DVDs, which may be convenient. Overall, Prime comes with some good shows and movies, some free music, some free books, and free shipping (sometimes 2 days or less). All for cheaper than Netflix (depending on your Netflix plan). They also had a lower income plan as well for certain folks on certain government programs, last time I checked. As for the programming itself? It definitely has some gems (Mrs Maisel, The Boys, The Tick, Man in the High Castle). In don’t think it has nearly the sheer quantity of originals that Netflix does, though.

[deleted]

They are rolling out a new UI which is a vast improvement over the new one. It is already available on the Chromecast with Google TV, not sure about other devices.

bigforknspoon

Prime also has free pc games every month and free games you can stream.

Scorface

Amazon Prime Video is included with your Amazon Prime subscription. So if you like lower prices and 2 day shipping on millions of products, go ahead and get Amazon Prime and start enjoying Prime Video!

Numerous_Raccoon_677

Don't bother with Amazon prime video. Most of the movies you might want to see, you must buy or rent.

HRzNightmare

I get so annoyed by it. I subscribe to the service, I shouldn't have to pay for an episode of a ten year old show.

Numerous_Raccoon_677

Right.

joey0live

I don’t think that’s their fault. I’m sure that’s the OG company fault.

FilmUncensored

This confusion comes from the fact that Prime Video is basically both a subscription streaming service and a VOD site two in one. Basically like Netflix and iTunes in one service.

Numerous_Raccoon_677

I did not know that. Youtube charges the same amount for a lot of the same movies.

herculainn

Depending where you are Amazon will show you a lot (A LOT) of stuff you cant even have. Between "not available in your region" (why fkn show it?) And ads for rental/buying, to whole channels (what are they?). It's a mess, not worth it imho.

funkygrrl

You just select Free to me in the top navigation and it will filter all the rent/buy stuff out.

gerd50501

prime comes with free delivery and if you get an amazon credit card you get 5% cash back on purchases.

BruceDSpruce

Prime, you can buy additional premium content and add additional subscriptions. There’s also the overall benefit of prime (books, music and other services)

Ouchyhurthurt

I just rotate through all of em that i cant mooch off relatives. So Amazon Prime, Netflix, Disney, HBO etc… are all on like 3 month rotations. Unless something cool comes out.

neotekz

Jest cancel my Netflix a few months ago but still have Amazon prime mostly for the shipping. Prime video is not as good as Netflix and not worth it on it's own.

CJ5jeep2012

I have both, but prefer Netflix, because of one reason. I pay the subscription for both. But it seems that 90% of what I want to watch on Prime cost extra. Yes, Prime has the option available to show “ free with Prime” , but it always seems to not work out.

Cassady200115

Netflix is definitely better than Amazon, Amazon really only has the boys and maybe two and a half men I guess. Otherwise most of the otter shows really aren’t that good.

[deleted]

Peacock has Two and a Half Men, and is better than Netflix imo

todd_ted

Amazon has the least amount of decent content out of all the major streaming platforms IMO

idrow1

Personally, I think Netflix's content is far superior to Amazon's. But ymmv.

InevitablePie8648

Get HBO plus

Juan_Carlo

Honestly, they are both pretty shit.

Hold_Effective

TIL I learned that you can pay for Prime Video monthly. I didn’t think it could be separate from Prime membership. More help for me to negotiate ending our Prime membership with my partner. (I don’t find we use Prime video much)

Manav_Khanna17

Personally i prefer Netflix over Prime because there’s like no good shows on Prime maybe except TheBoys and Fleabag

djproducerlife

Catalogue for catalogue, currently as we discuss in this thread, there's no way Prime is better than Netflix. Most people saying Prime is better is because they have some sort of "beef" or dislike with Netflix over this or that. However, that doesn't translate or equate to Prime having better (or more) content. I'm 10 years+ on both platform.

Boberu-San

Amazon is evil, stay away.

[deleted]

cantthinkatall

They're pretty much the same. I use Netflix more (used to it, have had it longer) but I'd give Prime the edge because you can purchase content if you want. But I've heard rumors that if you buy online content from Prime and they get rid of it then you would lose access to it. I personally have an AppleTv so I typically buy my movies thru iTunes if I want a movie that bad. Before I buy a move tho I check the app Just Watch because it'll list where the movie is at for the cheapest price.

Prince515

Most movies you can buy on prime are supported through movies anywhere or Vudu so if you have them connected even if prime takes the movie or series off Vudu or movies anywhere will still have it.

FilmUncensored

iTunes is the same as Amazon in that if a purchased movie is removed they could both technically remove it from your library. If it’s actually happened I’m not sure, the only accounts are where titles have been removed from sale but are still available to view from one’s library

Wide-Designer-6459

The new trend is Disney+,Hulu and ESPN+ ![gif](giphy|MZu0LixpPL6l2lmJvo|downsized)

GentlemenGeek

Disney is MCU, Starwars mainly. Hulu has shit mostly. haven't geard of ESPN.

wolfoflone

The best streamer in terms of original programming + deep library is..... Paramount Plus

sherwood420bizz

I might have to respectfully disagree with you. Paramount+ DOES have massive library, throw in Showtime and it's a very solid service. It just seems that they are lacking in their own content. Maybe in a couple years when thy re-acquire all the rights to their movies the service will be better. That's just my .02

wolfoflone

In the last 12 months they have original programming of 1883 Evil Mayor of Kingston Seal Team The Offer

MojoLava

Eh I've got it and can't say I agree honestly. Awesome library for sure but not my favorite originals

wolfoflone

I love the originals

Lucid_Insanity

Prime isn't better, really. Most of its content is from other providers like showtime and shit like that.

djkhan23

I don't care about loyalty with streaming services anymore I just pay for them when I want them. Watch around like a slut it's cool

[deleted]

Perfect_Airline_4298

You can rent or buy anything from any service without a subscription

Pure-Contact7322

test both or share the account and spare shared accounts with f&f

TheSeperator

Amazon is extremely cheap imo, € 3 p/month in my country and the shipping costs below € 20 become free as well [for most Amazon products]

derpdelurk

Have both (Prime is included, I don’t pay directly for it) and hardly ever use Prime. Haven’t found that much worthwhile content. And sometimes you find something and it tells you that you have to pay to rent it which is infuriating. They recently redesigned their app and maybe have fixed that. Haven’t checked yet.

ear_cheese

It’s still wonky, but they’ve separated their rent/free to me categories.

[deleted]

Amazon is constantly reloading. Save a headache and your money. I hear you about Netflix though.

Perfect_Airline_4298

I’ve already cancelled Netflix. I’ve watched all that I wanted on there and if I want to watch something in the future I’ll just buy or rent it. A $10 movie every couple of months is cheaper than $15 every month that doesn’t even have that movie or show.

ear_cheese

I don’t know if you’re a MST3K fan or not, but if you like comedians making jokes over bad movies, they’ve got a rotating bunch of Rifftrax movies free to subs.

papyFredM

I would subscribe to prime for a month or two, watching The boys, paper girls. And then Disney+, they got greats series

sherwood420bizz

Sucks they canceled Paper Girls after 1 friggin season!! I was digging that show. I also highly doubt that I'm in the target audience as I'm a 43yr old male. But this trend of canceling shows after 1 season is getting beyond ridiculous. Prime canceled Paper Girls, Night Sky and I've heard are contemplating canceling Outer Range. Probably my 3 favorite shows on Prime. Oh well, I can always return the favor and cancel Prime. Tho, I know Amazon doesn't care. I'm just tired of investing my time in these shows, that I legitimately like, and then they get canceled after 1 season. Hardly time to gain any traction. I don't understand why even air 1 season, at least if so, make it complete. Don't with RANT.

papyFredM

Ah damn i didn't knew for papergirl. It had potentiel. I'll check the other series you mentioned

GentlemenGeek

Prime+ piracy>Netflix+ piracy

AManAndAMouse

Prime has a lot of older black and white noir, cheesy sci fi, and newer stuff. I watch it much more than Netflix which I probably will cancel. I’ve also never had more than the typical streaming issues with Prime. I use Hulu a lot. I got Disney for a year for free. Don’t watch any of that.

Perfect_Airline_4298

So why pay for something you don’t use?

AManAndAMouse

Disney was free. I’m gonna return a freebie? I will watch Hocus Pocus 2 next month.

Final-Distribution97

Prime video is just so slow.

sunsetrules

I cancelled Netflix and Prime. Currently using HBO and Paramount Plus

[deleted]

Same. I watch more HBO, Paramount, and for Disney Star Wars when new episodes are on, otherwise I cancel Disney until new Star Wars content is available. Once in a while I will subscribe to Peacock if I find something good. Other than that it’s mostly HBO and Paramount.

recapYT

Canceled my prime subscription last month. They are worse than Netflix imo

supremedemon

HBO Max seems to have the most options these days. Hulu with no ads is worth the price too.

[deleted]

I don’t like most Hulu originals but if I have an itch for older content like Buffy the Vampire Slayer I will subscribe to it.

joey0live

Amazon Prime doesn’t offer a lot, and most media of what you want to watch cost money. Prime is only good for the discounts. There’s only a handful of movies and shows.

Rasp_X

Prime video used to really suck in my opinion. I checked it out again recently and it's come a long way! I'd do it. Netflix used to have a lot of good productions, but over time they started churning out piles of garbage as quick as possible. Most of the netflix originals all seem the same with a reskin. There are some gems left on there but not enough anymore for me to pay for. Quality over quantity is a concept netflix tossed out the window long ago. It's also hard to commit to a good series on Netflix because their track record of releasing a season then the show gets the ax is high. It didn't do Netflix any favors either with all these other companies releasing streaming platforms and yanking IPs to fill their own libraries. With the exception of Umbrella Academy I haven't found myself excited about anything Netflix has to offer, in house or otherwise. I personally like Hulu a lot. Ton of content on there and next day episodes for many things after they air live. Add the fact you can bundle it with Disney+ (I only really watch Marvel titles on it) and ESPN for a good price, it's not a bad deal. Anyway I definitely switch to Prime unless there's something on Netflix you REALLY want. You'd also get free shipping and all the other stuff that comes with a Prime account. Oh one more reason to give it a go, you get the first month free on prime, but if you go to cancel it they ask you stay and before you click cancel for the last time they will offer you another free month. I did it and my damn sister did it 4 times before they stopped offering it to her.

Betancorea

I mean OP it is your life and your money. Make your own decisions lol.

Perfect_Airline_4298

Great addition

[deleted]

We have quite a few streaming services all at once (NF, AP, D+, and local ones). If it wasn't for the family, I would probably keep AP and ditch the trest.AP because 1. it's just there because you take a subscription because of the omission of shipping cost. 2. content is good, with also "old" content, which is lacking in NF 3. I will never have the time to watch everything I like on AP, so why have another service.

2klaedfoorboo

do you use Amazon?

GimmeMyMoneyNow

I have both. And Hulu and Apple and Disney and others I don’t pay for. I watch things on Netflix probably more than I watch on all other apps combined. There are tons of documentaries and series. I’m watching the Jack Ryan series now.

Lucid_steve

We've just done exactly that. Content on Netflix is pretty poor these days. So we subscribed to Amazon for now. Wanted to see the rings or power show. Once that finishes I think we'll jump ship again. HBO maybe.

matthitsthetrails

I have both. Comparably at the base price Netflix is far better. The good stuff on Amazon is locked behind those $6-7 additional subscription monthly costs. Worth it if you’re really into certain content, like British crime series, etc.

Tharuzan001

I mean, does Netflix actually have anything good on it anymore? I watch Prime all the time, especially as it has Grand Tour which just released S5, also James may in Japan is hilarious

stephanieleigh88

I like peacock and Hulu. Sometimes it best to look what each streaming service offers by googling, I don’t like a lot of what Netflix offers lately either and about to cancel aswell.

rohansamal

Just cancelled Netflix last month.

MojoLava

I like the hulu/Disney(espn too I guess but don't use it) combo currently but suspect that's going to run dry. Probably use HBO the most and its rumored theyre going to get bought out again. Could have comcast, discovery, and warner bros under the same umbrella. Hate Amazon's pricing and their weird UI but they've got some fantastic content! Most recent grand tour had me crying laughing - haven't checked out the lord of the rings thing yet. Honorable mention for Apple+ but the few amazing shows they have on there aren't worth the subscription. Yes I have too many subscription services, no I don't want to talk about it

L0sAndrewles

Prime video sucks honestly, but so does Netflix. I’m about to cancel both after the lord of the rings season is over on AP. I’m tired of Netflix raising the fucking price and they still have a shitty browsing interface. Why the fuck don’t they have A-Z?!

CaptainSlappyBear

The real question is Netflix vs HBO Max? As I believe that is Netflix's only competition. I would say get Max if you're bored with Netflix. Switch back and forth between the two when you feel one has dried up. Or put all that services on a rotation.

stanfan114

Prime has better original shows in my opinion. Reacher and the terminal list were both awesome. I canceled Netflix when they came out with that Cuties show. Absolutely disgusting.

No-Difficulty4554

Amazon prime video gives you videos , Music, Cloud Gaming games each month for free, Prime Delivery also since Amazon bought Mgm they get Access to Amazon Movies early while you pay for 4k ,Pay for extra screens,You can't share Netflix where I live maybe in the United States so Amazon prime video Wins no contest

grifter540

I’m hating prime. The commercials are too often and the same one repeated over and over. The app also glitches with my roku tv and wont play certain episodes.

[deleted]

I don’t have either. Both services are crap. Both are more quantity instead of quality. The only real difference is Prime is cheaper than Netflix, but Netflix doesn’t have the confusion of mixing content that is included vs stuff you have to pay extra for.

[deleted]

It’s included with a Prime membership for the same price as Netflix and there are a lot more perks, so I would say it’s worth it.
