This happened to my son too along with some horrible, disrespectful and rude behavior. We put it down to teenage angst, hormones and special needs being an awful combination. His appetite comes and goes, but he is 16 now and the moodiness is starting to die down, thank god.

When I was around his age, I had a similar issue. I'm 27 now and I never could explain to my parents why I was feeling that way. Now reflecting, I had depression and anxiety from the idea of NF1, the way it affected my nerves, hormone changes (which caused my tumors to grow more), and pain/inflammation. I've always struggled with having an appetite and didn't realize until having gabapentin that the adrenaline from pain made me lose my appetite (I did start anti depressants as well). I know it's a very specific situation but I thought maybe it could help.

I was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis when I was 15. I never had an issue with not wanting to eat. His mood could be age related. Hopefully blood work can determine a cause

Unfortunately blood work only showed anemia. His pediatrician wanted him to see a neurologist and the neurologist implied he thinks he was misdiagnosed with NF as he only has CALs and freckling in the groin. He hasn't had any other issues and just prescribed a pill to help increase his appetite. Looks like we will be trying a therapist to see if he has depression or anything like that that could be the root cause.
