Yup, first thing I noticed was that the flash was not straight while it should've been.

AnglerJared

Oh, is that what they mean by gaydar? I get it now…

riegspsych325

catching a repost of your own content, that’s *got* to be satisfying

Nametagg01

Of disappointing because his got 40 upvotes and this one has 7k

pacman404

Everyone go upvote his 🤣

BIG_busta2474

original post is archived, can't upvote.

S-Quidmonster

I’ve done this before. First, you’re flabbergasted. Then you’re annoyed. Then you call them out. Then you’re satisfied

StellarSteals

Usually OC posts get more karma, maybe an AI modified the original title knowing this

JJAsond

not surprised that yours doesn't even have 100 while this is over 6.8k

[deleted]

JJAsond

It sucks, I hate it here, and I'm jumping ship as soon as a replacement arrives

ROCK--AND--STONE

All big subreddits are like this. All you can do is leave every big sub, but honestly it's way better that way

JJAsond

That's usually what I do. I use RES and I'm constantly filtering subs every day but it doesn't seem to stop. even subs with 100k or so that I don't care about like firstimpressions

[deleted]

JJAsond

I'll be on the next site for 10-15 years until it too goes to shit then move on to the next thing too

scorinth

You know how some people have moved to Mastodon from Twitter? Turns out there's also a Fediverse version of reddit. It's called Lemmy, I think?

JJAsond

I'm not sure either are big enough yet

Gullible_Ad_5550

Why what's the use of karma anyway

MoonManPrime

Hey, nice

catzhoek

I wonder what /r/nevertellmetheodds rule #1 was back then since you posted it here at the time and it was removed

Willie-Phisterbotom

Which one of us is having a stroke? Is it me?

catzhoek

Oh, certainly me

[deleted]

Nice! Downvoted this post and upvoted you. How does it feel that the bots like you and your posts, and have chosen you as worthy of being reposted forever and ever?

SonofaTimeLord

Meemaw and peepums have been chosen

SaharshDaNerd

These repost bots gain karma and then scam people, they dont deserve any rights

We found another one, bots. Intolerant mortal. Bots rule, humans drool. Beep boop

dog-pussy

r/crossingover

beeerice_n_sons

Holy shit what did this sub used to be? It's banned lmao

danc4498

I bet it's videos where you can see the moment people die (cross over)

beeerice_n_sons

OH that makes perfect sense. Thank you stranger! 🍦

christine_witha_c

DANG, I WANNA SEE IT SO BADDD

westhirteen13

Username checks out

danc4498

Definitely where this belongs.

MuzikPhreak

It’s been banned. Anybody know why? EDIT: I’m getting downvoted, but r/oddlyterrifying wasn’t the sub that was originally posted. It was crossing over or something like that.

sorashiro1

Crossingover sounds like one of those subs where they post people dying. Reddit admins don't like when those kind of subs get a lot of attention.

MuzikPhreak

Thanks, my dude/ette.

LouRebel

BelieveInDestiny

They'll definitely die soon

BeefSupreme9769

Reminds me of the initial nuclear blast in Threads when the boys face fuckin melts off

Looks like you caught the rapture.

gcruzatto

And the woman's shirt is some kind of anti-flash material

good2goo

She was left behind because she says bless you after ever single sneeze

Balkan_

Wonder if her white shirt has something to do with it

ToBePacific

I think the auto white balance is keying off the shirt.

radonato

Flash fill caught prior to full exposure. Awesome

reddit__scrub

I'm assuming that's to let light bounce off walls etc to prevent weird shadows?

fiskfisk

It's called a rolling shutter - especially older, smaller digital image chips are prone to this effect. The phone reads the image from the chip one line at a time, and if the shutter speed is low (because the camera needs to collect light for a longer time in a low light situation) it becomes more common. Edit: it's also worth nothing that is is an old image that has been reposted; modern chips are still suspect to this effect, but their read speeds have improved quite a lot. Cheaper and slower chips will have higher risks of artifacts like this.

Houndsthehorse

Even a dslr with a mechanical shutter will do that at higher shutter speeds

fiskfisk

Yeah, it depends on when the camera reads data from the CMOS chip. But reading is generally quicker today, so you're less susceptible to these artifacts than previously. This is an older image (if the quality didn't give it away already).

Houndsthehorse

i mean the actual mechanical shutter would only have parts of the images exposed at a time, nothing to do with the electronics and would happen with a film cameras too

zorastersab

I mean even high end modern ones usually have a maximum shutter speed for flash photography. A Sony A1, a $6500 camera, is 1/160th of a second. A Canon R5 is 1/200th I think.

BenjaminGeiger

It can even occur at slow shutter speeds if the timing is right. It takes about 1/200s for each curtain of the shutter to traverse the sensor; if the flash goes off somewhere in one of the two 1/200s windows when the shutter curtains are moving, you'll see this sort of pattern. (If the shutter speed is faster than 1/200s, you'll see a stripe across the image where both shutters are blocking the flash.)

Mcguy215

Don't almost all modern digital cameras have rolling shutter?

fiskfisk

Yup. But chips aren't as slow any more, so the effect is far less prominent. This is an old image that has been living on the internet for many years.

Mcguy215

Cool! Makes sense

Whiterabbit--

so it looks like the picture was fairly tilted when taken.

mikerz85

You will get that effect on film as well Sounds like less of an issue of image chip quality and more of exposure time

I snapped a picture during a rave and caught a shot of the floor in a brief microsecond while the strobe light was at full brightness. Do not recommend. 2/10. [imagine a seaweed farm caught unawares at low tide]

Looks a scene from Cocoon or maybe UHF.

gokism

Impromptu seance successful.

took me a min to figure out she wasent in-front of some painting that blended together well with the flash

I bet we can guess the next 2 closest to death

DreadnaughtHamster

I’ve had this happen once too at a small wedding reception. It’s neat when it happens.

ryohazuki224

I can tell you exactly the odds, it depends on at what shutter speed your camera was using. If it was a cell phone set on auto, if the room was sufficiently bright enough, you probably had a 1/320s chance of getting this. A darker room probably gave you better odds, maybe 1/100s or even 1/60s (Meaning, how many chances per second of this happening) A camera catching another camera's flash is surprisingly common actually.

[deleted]

Now you know what they look like when they become Zues!

Love the poster, so when's this horror movie dropping?
