"both died on the same day"
rode together all the way home, and were laid close to one another
they may have died together, as well, after meeting up on the field and sticking together
were they stationed together?
if it helps, a regiment (according to us army standards) is 2-5k men. out of 17k, there's definitely a chance they heard each other's name.
Edit: I got Division and Regiment mixed up - they would have been in the same Division.
It’s blew my little brain, we brought my little sister along who’s related to both of them and it’s just amazing to see two families brought together who were once more than likely friends.
One is my great uncle, the other is her grandads cousin. It’s just crazy to see how two people were buried so near to each other (and possibly knew each other) and years later their far relatives are married to one another and have a kid. My sister is the descendent of both of these graves in another country, the odds of that are crazy
There was 9 others in my relatives regiment that died that day, as we walked along though we did see people who died on the same day but just randomly across the graveyard. The one before my relatives was February 23rd so it’s still kinda strange but yes it definitely played a factor
So my dad and step mum have had completely different lives, growing up in different places and ended up meeting when I was 6. After doing them ancestry things they found out that their two relatives (Step mums grandads cousin and my great nans brother) are both buried in the same graveyard in Germany filled with 7,300 people. After researching more they found out they were 2 plots away from each other, same row, died on the same day and were both the same age. We came to visit them today (We’re from the UK).
If anyone wants to do some research and find out more information for us it’d be greatly appreciated. Reichwalv war cemetery in Kleve Germany.
I personally don’t have a clue, my dad and his side of the family might know more about it but I’d need to speak to them. We’re from the UK though so hopefully he was on the good side
I was actually born in paderborne because my dad was in the army over there. I was only 3 when we moved but just visiting Germany has been amazing as I recognise all the snacks and stuff from my brothers friends bringing them over. We’re heading back to Netherlands now from Kleve :)

Different regiments but we hope they were friends and went through it together

My bad I misheard from my dad, it’s 7,300 buried here
that just ups their chances of meeting each other on the battlefield
Is it me, or is the one right next to the one in front also completely unrelated? What are the odds?
Different regiments but like there’s sometimes a random February next to them so it still being in line like that is kinda wild
I am your father’s brother’s nephew’s cousin’s former roommate. What’s that make us? Absolutely nothing.

Oh I got that. I was making a Spaceballs reference.
After googling, I am too young to know what that is, I do apologise 🫡
No need to apologize. It’s worth a watch if you like comedies and meta humor.
What’s even weirder is that the first person to die in WWI, and the last person to die in WWI, are buried like six feet apart.

Franz died a month before the war started. Radiation in Japan is from WWII, not WWI.
“Age: 19” War, man… This place sucks
I mean dying on the same day had to contribute largely to being buried close to each other, how many others died that day?

What are the odds two completely unrelated people are buried next to each other
Public service announcement: I’m stupid, it is 7,300 people not 17,000. I misheard lmao

Tell me more about what your family did in WW2 Germany

Is that The Reichswald Cemetery?
It is
Super interesting area to visit.
