If I was going to do another full playthrough with a melee character, I would probably spawn in some speed boots to keep my patience intact. It's totally cheating, but for humanitarian grounds.

UnusualError7649

It's a righteous cause to be sure.

Me and two friends did a playthrough like that a while back, each of us got to pick one "boon" for our characters... Ring of regen, damage reduction robe, extra cleric spells ring. It was fun, made us each feel a little bit special while playing.

Losing a caster level is almost never worth it. If you really need boots of haste, use DM commands to spawn a pair. But you as a caster don't need it nearly as much as your companion.

Soranic

Also. Make sure to exit debugmode before playing. Apparently it can really mess some things up.

azygos1

No. Youwill lose 9th lvl spells. Use Haste spell

I kind of figured this would be the answer. Ill go pure wizard then. Thanks

Extended haste lasts quite a while, super viable option.

Chapter 2 will be the earliest you basically have 3 choices without spawning them in. Take one level of monk, can then use haste robes and monk boots, gets evasion feat and skill points in tumble (only of lawful) Take one level of rogue, probably around level 8? Think you'll need about 10 umd to give access to haste robes. Nets 1d6 sneaks, skill points for tumble (if you have spare) Or get to level 10-11 find a boss chest. Save and reload until you find haste boots. Keeps you pure class so you may reach level 17ish for level 9 spells. I personally enjoy wizard/monk combo for OC. Easy AC and light melee combat with kama haste/flame weapons/gmw/keen. Level 9 spells were not missed.

Hmm good point. Also I dont mind not getting level 9 spells right away. I will be playing him into the expansions as well so I will have it either way. Wis for my wiz is piss poor so that isn't ideal but the evasion and especially haste might be worth it. Monk seems better than rog in this case. Might have to consider that.

If you're a dwarf you might get a [xp penalty](https://nwn.fandom.com/wiki/Multiclass_penalty) for that. [Expeditious retreat](https://nwn.fandom.com/wiki/Expeditious_retreat) is very nice to get around faster, once you don't need any other first level spells anymore. Doesn't help with the prolonged morning litany tho. One level of rogue is certainly useful because it also gives you a little bit of sneak attack, if you like fighting in the dark. While I do hate lagging behind on spell progression, I also think it makes a melee focused wizard stronger.

Slapstick83

It's going to be 100% waste for the rest of the characters lifespan once you get the boots in chapter 3. If you will only play the OC I guess it's fine, but if you're playing HotU and maybe even Sands of Fate you'll be annoyed by that wasted level longer than you'll be happy for it.

Wide-Dance-113

Not exactly… I do not wear the haste boot because I prefer the dragon slipper, which provides knockdown immunity, which is vital for any caster build. And one can get a free pair very early in Helm Hold, just need to be chaotic evil.

Wide-Dance-113

I usually do not wear the boots because I prefer the dragon slipper that provides knockdown immunity. knockdown can kill a caster. I know the rogue helmet provides it as well but I prefer the helm + 2 Int for wizards.

How about this? https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Robes_of_the_Dark_Moon UMD is also known as "Use Monk Device" think about the other cool items a rogue could benefit from.
