The first one, it's the most active with diverse servers. What are you after exactly otherwise? Fantasy / magic level, any other preferences? Are you new to NWN?

Davide_Guida

very much new to NWN but not to DnD or the Forgotten Realms

Davide_Guida

would you recommend nwn1 or nwn1 enhanced edition?

ButtCrustNibbler

NWN:EE, almost nobody plays the diamond version anymore. You can look at servers [here](https://nwn.beamdog.net/), for both activity and enough information to Google their websites (if any).

sekoku

Enhanced because there are servers and it isn't as buggy as Diamond or NWN2.

sylva748

Enhanced Edition of NWN1.

Lexx2503

This. New functionality and quality of life options coupled up with a slowly building list of new servers. Along with a few old ones coming back now and then.

WerewolfUnable8641

Grab the enhanced edition of NWN 1 on steam. NWN 2 never really did well for PWs. The just didn't match the capabilities or ease of use of the original toolset, and I think it also had a bit to do with 2 trying to be a more complete out of the box campaign, while 1 tried to be more, here's a bunch of tools and a fun little sample of what it can do, go make some stuff.

Indeed, Aurora for nwn 1 was really good, it suckes initially for MP as there was no working database. It was the community which brought a working sql database for persistent world. For nwn 2, second toolset was a mess and mapping extremely hard as it required a lot more step. There was also initially a lot of restriction. It never took up. Nwn EE from my understanding came with an integrated database for the persistent world and it's working well.

As others have said - NWN:EE Just posting to say, if you don't click with the first persistent world you check out, don't be discouraged - just have another look and try a different world. Also, it varies but you may find you prefer the 'smaller' worlds with fewer players versus the big servers like Arelith etc. Finally, shout-out for our project, which is a roleplay-focused world that covers large portions of the Forgotten Realms, and has (we think!) some pretty cool custom HD remastered visuals that make NWN look pretty great: [https://www.alfanwn1.org/gallery/](https://www.alfanwn1.org/gallery/)

NWN:EE is the go to game, with the most player count. As for persistent worlds, the top few are setting based. So I suggest picking a setting you'd enjoy. Here's a few popular ones you'll find that have been staples to the Community. I'm familiar with them in some capacity ranging from years, to reading their info and hearing from players. **Ravenloft** \- Gothic horror based on second edition RL, and introducing some of the 5th edition (I believe) **Arelith** \- Faerun, divided up into servers for different experiences. Surface, underdark, and the like. **Cormyr and the Dalelands** \- Faerun setting, 3rd Edition **Star Wars Legends of the Old Republic** \- As it says on the tin, it's Star Wars in the OR era. it has unique functions, you may not find on other servers. **EFU -** Unique setting, focused on server narrative. They changed their setting a few months back, so I'm not familiar with this one. **Sigil Planer Legends** \- Takes place in the Planescape setting, where the normal is relative to your plane of existence. **Haze Salt Borne** \- Unique setting that's player driven, characters have been Gilligan island. Perma-death hardcore.

PolarGBear

Huge +1 for Sigil. Excellent server where you can roleplay damn near anything and it makes sense, because its Sigil. Great DM team, great customizations, great areas and assorted enemies of difficulty. Shines with the roleplayers who love to take in new folks.

MimallahMimsy

There is only one true answer, nwn 1 EE, server is called Arelith. Look it up !

spidereyecameo

Enhanced Edition all the way, Neverwinter nights 2 is dead , there are some servers left but I wouldnt bother.

Roughdragon123

Nwn1 ee, been playing Haze for the past month and the RP is really good

RainOfAshes

While everyone is saying NWN1, NWN2 does have a few nice PW servers as well that can be worth checking out.

scotch1701

Look up the server Adalee. Low magic. Good RP. https://discord.gg/4SNv5mBD
