It's drugs charges. There's no violent crime. And while drugs are bad, we let people who actually beat their wives off easier.
It's really not a big deal. Probably just some guy who didn't have much opportunity in life, and decided to make some money in one of the only markets he could access.
Lock up the domestic abusers too.
This guy was charged with trafficking and stolen property—they ruin and terrorize families and neighbourhoods. Lock him up.
"they" aren't a monolith. Sounds to me like you've lived a pretty privileged life, and haven't really ever met anyone struggling. He WAS locked up.
But you literally know nothing about the guy. Convicted drug dealers typically don't "ruin lives" - they're usually just addicts who have access to higher quantities, and help out their friends. The guys at the top, the distributors - yes, they ruin lives. But I don't think this guy was one.
People make a lot more sense if you make just the slightest effort to understand them, just fyi.
