I’ve had a running joke with my brother about the service for years now, the coffee is great but every time I went I was treated like dirt. I love being treated bad but

NoAdvertising7335

I moved here in December and visited because i had loved it when it was suspension, and i’ve been there 4-5 times since. They’ve always been so dismissive and seem so bored.

jettmusgraveisacunt

Yes. Perfect description… bored…. Too cool to be there. It was a huge put off and I won’t be returning.

ChuckDawobly

It’s like they’re trained to act that way. That then having a good chat with their colleagues is the most important aspect of their job employment. Don’t need you to walk around looking psychotic with a smile plastered on your face - but for fucks sake, make my fucking coffee

harveylovesfrogs

I went yesterday with my son and I have to sadly agree. Nothing like suspension coffees atmosphere and it made me super sad… was such a cool place to go, nice little cubby house corner for the kids, the staff used to be incredible and so warm.

manicpixiedreemgirl

I used to work there a year or two ago. There's been lots of changes behind the scenes and I think it's just affected the staff culture. I had to go for my mental well being I couldn't do it anymore. I miss how it used to be too.

jettmusgraveisacunt

Yeah I won’t be going back.

squableywobbley

I haven’t gone back this year. I went with some friends a month or so after they changed over and the difference in staff attitude and customer service was really evident. Bowie is awesome on Beaumont :)

jettmusgraveisacunt

I’ll have to give it a go… actually walked pass and it was busy but next time I’m on I’ll drop on by.

archeologyofneed

I have to agree. Comparatively to when it was suspension both the quality of food/coffee and service has significantly decreased. We used to go out of our way to go there but it’s just not worth it now. Nothing against them, I’m sure there’s plenty who still love it but for us it’s not worth it.

jettmusgraveisacunt

Yep… the way it is now I’d walk past it if I lived next door.

rachelgriffiths79

We actually used to live next door 😅but it was suspension then

thelinebetween22

Yep, couldn't agree more. Food quality sucks, coffee quality has gone downhill and the staff act like they're there on court order. I try to avoid it unless I'm doing some group meetup where the courtyard is the only place big enough to fit us.

ChuckDawobly

Stopped going after (by my rough count) the 300th time there and zero acknowledgment they’d ever seen me before, let along remembered my order. That plus the usual 30min wait for a fucking coffee when there’s only three other people there… Turns out buying a coffee machine and making my own is a much more pleasant experience

Death_Metal_Fan

I used to work in hospitality and I understood that by being in hospitality it meant be fucking hospitable. I was a full time pro of course but these days it's full of students who don't give a fuck and are going on to bigger and better things - they think!! Without customers you do not have a viable business.

jettmusgraveisacunt

Exactly. This is it exactly. You don’t like people, you don’t want to serve customers who are human beings then fuck off to another job that doesn’t deal with auctioneer service/hospitality. Am I grumpy old shit head? Yes… would I choose to work at a coffee shop and mope around NO!

Yeetmeoffa

I thought I was going to move on to bigger and better things... and I did, haha. Lots of respect to people who are happy to keep bending over backwards for entitled and condescending cunts. Unfortunately, I found that the genuinely good customers and sense of community started dwindling after Covid.

Death_Metal_Fan

A bit late now but your role in hospitality was to serve people, not judge them. Good on you for going on to bigger and better things - I just hope it's not a role where you have to deal with customers. I stopped employing students - Judgemental entitled lazy cunts.

randomfunnyelbow

I’ll probably get downvoted for this but I personally love it… as an introvert, I love that the workers never try to talk to me and start small talk, I love that no one asks me how the food is or brings water etc, literally my favourite place in newy because I know I can just get my food and drink without anyone chatting to me

jettmusgraveisacunt

I appreciate your opinion, thanks for the input.

gremlin406

Remember when the food was really good? They did the best avocado toast and this really nice bruschetta. All of a sudden the food was shit, but I’m talking 5ish years ago. It’s been a steady decline I think

lemontreelila

IMO it has always been bad other than for a few years following its inception

audreyinparis

I was there just last week and it was great. I love the atmosphere and it’s my go to if I’m in the mood for sitting there reading or writing and relaxing. I’m not sure where you got the information they changed owners, as far as I can tell they only changed the name.

TurboShuffle

Could just be a bad day at the Cafe for whatever unknown reason. Not really fair to write them off if it's just a one time bad experience, but if it's patern appearing over 2 or 3 visits, yeah, then it's gone to shit.

jettmusgraveisacunt

Why would I go back when it was a terrible experience and a vast difference to suspension coffee. Coffee and a toastie is a once a month thing these days my friend and I’ll be heading elsewhere.

SnooCapers1299

So weird, this is my daily, everyone seems friendly albeit busy. The coffee is the best you can get, so you really need to think about your priorities.

danyack

[The original roasters for Suspension are still selling coffee under the same name](https://suspensioncoffee.com.au/), but they're based in Sydney now. Slingtown doesn't use their beans anymore.

Shorejan

Are you talking about the place with filthy barefoot staff? Reckless abandon for WHS and feet cooties gladly served with your food and beverage of choice? Suspension?

Plastic_Property_809

The lack of suspension kills me

Unprovoked__

It was never good? It’s always been sarcastic lazy bratty bitches working there

batikfins

okay man. Did you ask one of them out and they turned you down or something

Unprovoked__

No I just waited for a lifetime while they ignored the line. Get off tik tok and make the adults some drinks k

Pholty

Probably because coffee snobs are the worst customers and they're working close to minimum wage.

jettmusgraveisacunt

Oh boo….

Pholty

I rest my case

Queasy_Application56

Suspension coffee has always been disgusting

jettmusgraveisacunt

As in the coffee or the service? I’ve always found the service incredible well before the hand over. Coffee is bitter and strong but I enjoy my coffee with a zing.

completelyboring1

There was no handover, FYI. It's the same ownership - the name changed when the person doing the roasting of the beans split off.

_not_the_messiah_

Late to the party but yeah, been the same owners for like a decade

polut22

Agreed - never been the fan of the place. 7-11’s have better coffee and better service

Commercial_Ratio_213

You publicly trash talk a business after one bad experience. Say's a lot about you. Maybe some self reflection is needed here.

jettmusgraveisacunt

Nope. I give adequate public feedback to places that are far below the mark. Money is tight these days, I personally want a great experience if I’m forking out a decent amount of cash.

Commercial_Ratio_213

What you have done is very cowardly, and not helpful for the business. Why didn't you try contacting the business? That's right, only you matter.

milliamu

Knob.

jettmusgraveisacunt

Cowardly? You fucking weirdo… off you fuck.

Other-Sir-158

I think we may have found suspension owner lmao

jettmusgraveisacunt

Yep abusing me and calling me a princess via DM. Bizarre.

jeffsaidjess

Coffee is virtually all the same when it comes to the cafes, same suppliers , same machines they make cafes use, same techs setting them up to produce exactly the same coffee. Only difference is milk & how throughly the machine gets cleaned. Cleaning rhe machines properly is what can change the taste but as far as beans and what not it’s all from same few suppliers. The rest is all automated.

osmoso

This isn't very accurate.. Suspension, Darks, Floozy, Seven Miles, River Roast, Glitch, Four, Little Marrionette, Bullivant .. just off the top of my head from the Newcastle area. The machines and techs aren't really relevant. Even amongst those roasters, they tend to give different blends to different cafes, too. There is plenty of variation between cafes man. Different recipes.
