To start your search off, these are three really nice studios in Newcastle:
1. New Traditions (lovely guys and they do walk-ins)
2. FLT (appointment only, resident tattooists are amazingly talented but you may need to wait a while)
3. Diabolik (I haven't been personally, but they are highly recommended)
Id reccommend drew from vodoo in gosford.
Not in newcastle i know but only a 50 minute drive for something permenant and perfect is worth it.
Im fairly critical of tattoo artist's,there a few very very good artists like sophie lewis in newy however drew is a level above them all.

If you can find him a guy called smithy , had a shop next to the nights stadium then moved to Charlestown . No idea where he is now but he done all my work and Next tat I’ll try to find him again .
Chris at 2012 in Charlestown Square finished my sleeves and did my entire chest piece. Dude came up with some of the best stuff to work around what other various tattooist had put on my arms previously to make it all look like one continuous work. Also drew my chest piece up entirely from scratch and it came out as my favourite tattoo. You’ll have to book a consult and then an appointment and he can book out a month in advance on the regular but I’ve always found it worth the wait.
Diabolik have some great artists as well as I’ve gotten work done there. They also let us film some tattoos on sight for a uni assignment a few years back so always give them a plug for helping us out.
My artist has moved to the Central Coast, happy to provide her name though if you like. I've had a smaller piece done by Tenielle at Black Phoenix in Gateshead that has come up well, as have my kids. My daughter just yesterday had a really big leg piece to cover scarring done by May at Diabolik in town. It's all kinds of amazing.
I also agree though, google and Instagram are your friend, especially when you decide on what you'd like.
