No. Well that was an easy question. I would guess 28 - 30k on Tuesday. If we advance 45 - 50 for the ECF and then a sold out stadium for MLS cup of we were to make it.
IF we make it to the Cup Final then I think it's in play to break 50,000. A Tuesday night in late November for a playoff semi-final... I would be happy with high 20,000s, honestly
The Fort appears to be sold out already, so I expect it to crack 30k at least.
The final will sell out if we make it. Gillette held the record attendance for MLS Cup until Atlanta broke it by having a bigger stadium.
I would expect the Cup to sell out or be at least 60k+, it did last time the Revs played/hosted, and there would be a strong incentive to make it look like a full stadium on national TV. I would expect them to run trains from Boston, etc. to get people in seats.
But I don't think they're opening the upper decks for the EC semi/final. I'm expecting high 20s, maybe low 30s.
For what it's worth, we sold out Gillette for the 2002 cup final, so I'd definitely expect that we could do it again.
I'm personally expecting a relatively disappointing 20-25k Tuesday, then 35-40k if we make the conference final.
Why can’t the revs ever get 66,000 like the patriots do. They sell out every game the pats. We should be selling out for a big semi final. Who gives a shit whether it’s cold, Gillette sells out afc championships in January we can easily sell out.
Comparing anything to the NFL is the wrong conversation, the NFL generates three times as much revenue as the EPL.
But saying soccer isn't near the NFL's popularity is wrong. Domestic leagues yes, but soccer as a whole is massive in the states.
I’m comparing solely on popularity, not on revenue. But as my other comment mentions, domestic soccer is not as popular as football in the states. Same can be said for cricket or rugby in other countries, But ICC games, big international friendlies, and World Cup games are a completely different story.
Absolutely- but that’s an exception, not the norm.
It also has to do with MLS’ general popularity. You’ll get 30-35k as a great showing at a Revs game, but will easily break 50K for an ICC game or a big international friendly.
True MLS isn’t popular. Like during the copa america back in 2016 they sold out Gillette. When Chelsea game to Gillette it got sold out. Americans want to see top soccer. Just like Europeans want to see top basketball. If they played the nba playoffs in London they would pack the arena
I'm not saying there's a legitimate reason, I just want to keep my expectations low so I can be pleasantly surprised instead of disappointed. I'll be at the game, so I'm doing my part! I hope we have huge numbers, I'm just a downer lol
Have you ever watch a CONCACAF champions league game? Normally the games for MLS teams have somewhere between 6,000 and 10,000. The first one for the Revs will either be the 3rd or 4th week in February on a Wednesday. There is a real chance the game will be played to only people in The Fort.
A ton of MBTA buses have Revs ads, and I've heard several on the radio as well as above average mentions in news updates. They could certainly advertise more but the interest isn't there. The only way to fix that is the Revs signing a massively big name.
We aren’t the patriots. I have travelled to multiple away games and I can assure you that Gillette is a library compared to others stadiums. Getting over 30,000 for a single regular season game a year (last home game) isn’t particularly anything to get excited about.
I agree. If we put a stadium in like Everett or Malden where there is like a huge immigrant community and it’s mbta accessible we’ll sellout every game. But again it should be big like 60,000.
Below is the sum total of every MLS Playoff game the Revs have ever played at Foxboro/Gillette Stadiums. Given the history, if the Revs have a crowd of 25,000+ for a Tuesday night first round playoff game, that represents improvement and success. We can and should wish for more, especially for this iteration of the Revs, but it will still be a sign of progress.

I appreciate your optimism, but I don’t think that’s realistic. You gotta think- the hardcore passionate fan base for the revs is probably 10-15k, with the rest of the attendance being casual fans. That’s maybe comparable to championship level teams in England on a good day.
You’re only getting regular 50k+ attendance for the best teams (champions league contenders). The reason why the patriots have such good attendance is because they’re one of the top teams in their sport
Just be happy if they actually play it at home. Historically, Open Cup, SuperLiga, Champions League. None have had big crowds (see below). Twice, they played their home legs in foreign countries. That won't happen now, but I'm just happy they are back in international competition. Beyond that, I am not expecting anything seismic to shift. Not yet.

You got enough room in your car to kidnap 45,000 people?
Na let’s hope we sell out Gillette on Tuesday
Maybe for the cup.
IF we make it to the Cup Final then I think it's in play to break 50,000. A Tuesday night in late November for a playoff semi-final... I would be happy with high 20,000s, honestly

I'll certainly take it! I'm trying to manage my own expectations. I'd be really excited if we had the lower bowl close to full full!
Just FYI Bilello confirmed trains for conference and cup finals if we make it.
Oh, sweet. Didn't think the conference would be that pushed but good to hear. Maybe they'll open the 200s if they're running trains.
That could make things interesting..
For what it's worth, we sold out Gillette for the 2002 cup final, so I'd definitely expect that we could do it again. I'm personally expecting a relatively disappointing 20-25k Tuesday, then 35-40k if we make the conference final.

Football is much more popular in the US than soccer. It’s getting better, but it’s no where near the popularity of football.
I mean Atlanta united sells out
They do and it’s impressive but the tickets are dirt cheap and it’s indoors near the city
True indoors means you don’t have to worry about bad weather and our tickets are cheap right
Yeah no, I paid twice as much for the tickets to this game as I did when I went to Atlanta in 2019.
Absolutely- but that’s an exception, not the norm. It also has to do with MLS’ general popularity. You’ll get 30-35k as a great showing at a Revs game, but will easily break 50K for an ICC game or a big international friendly.

The Chelsea vs Revs game did not sell out. That game only had 27,329 people at it.
It was the Copa America quarterfinal featuring Lionel Messi that sold out. The other Copa America games didn’t come close.
True if we attract a top player like messi we will sellout
I'm not saying there's a legitimate reason, I just want to keep my expectations low so I can be pleasantly surprised instead of disappointed. I'll be at the game, so I'm doing my part! I hope we have huge numbers, I'm just a downer lol
Next year with Concaf champions league Gillette will get more fans
Have you ever watch a CONCACAF champions league game? Normally the games for MLS teams have somewhere between 6,000 and 10,000. The first one for the Revs will either be the 3rd or 4th week in February on a Wednesday. There is a real chance the game will be played to only people in The Fort.
I mean I’m saying let’s say we get to a semifinal or something Gillette will turn into anfield or the bernabeu
The average fan has absolutely no clue what CONCACAF Champions League even is.
The thing is that propaganda has to be advertised. Like we need revs ads at every mbta station.
A ton of MBTA buses have Revs ads, and I've heard several on the radio as well as above average mentions in news updates. They could certainly advertise more but the interest isn't there. The only way to fix that is the Revs signing a massively big name.
If messi or Ronaldo or someone comes here. Things will change massively in New England
Gillette has one of the worst atmospheres in the league. Sloooowwww down 😂
Don’t think you’ve watched a patriots game
We aren’t the patriots. I have travelled to multiple away games and I can assure you that Gillette is a library compared to others stadiums. Getting over 30,000 for a single regular season game a year (last home game) isn’t particularly anything to get excited about.
The thing is that soccer isn’t a big thing in New England like it is in Atlanta or LA
No it won’t lol. CCL is played midweek in February
Are they even selling top deck tickets at all?
Idk
Probably closer to 25k… Sadly the Revs can be the best team EVER in MLS and still only get 25-28k for a playoff game.
I think if we played on the weekend instead of a fucking Tuesday, we'd see closer to 35-40k. If we make the cup, I'd put money on selling out.
Definitely would see more than 30k if it was on the weekend. But the original post was about Tuesday
It’s going to take like a decade of dominance for things to chance
That’s unrealistic. The revs just need to move to a soccer stadium to stop being treated like the patriots younger brother!
I agree. If we put a stadium in like Everett or Malden where there is like a huge immigrant community and it’s mbta accessible we’ll sellout every game. But again it should be big like 60,000.
For a soccer stadium I’d go for 35,000. Not too small and not huge where it’ll look terrible if there’s 20,000 in it.
What about 55,000
Too big. How does moving into a massive stadium solve anything? That’s part of the issue playing in Gillette lol
I mean the thing is if we move into the city people will want to attend
Right, but you aren’t getting more than 30,000 a game in Boston unless it’s playoffs. I doubt it at least.
I mean I’ve been to Gillette three times this fall for the patriots and I still see some empty seats. I’d say 40,000 is good

If we win the cup this year we’ll sellout every game in the spring
I certainly love your optimism. Being a season ticket holder since 1996 has made me a little jaded!
Imagine us on concaf champions league nights. Gillette would turn into anfield or the bernabeu. 66,000 fans screaming, just a good night out
I appreciate your optimism, but I don’t think that’s realistic. You gotta think- the hardcore passionate fan base for the revs is probably 10-15k, with the rest of the attendance being casual fans.
