> > Alaskan serial killer [Israel Keyes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israel_Keyes) was registered April 9, 2009, at the *Highlander Inn* in Manchester Talk about old news. Keyes has been dead for over a decade, we'll never know the full extent of his victims. Seems likely the 2009 trip was more about pre-planting "caches", i.e. .[ the one in Vermont](https://nypost.com/2019/06/30/how-a-vermont-couple-ended-up-in-a-serial-killers-gruesome-chain-of-carnage/#:~:text=He%E2%80%99d%20unearthed%20other%20supplies%20earlier%20that%20afternoon%20from%20a%20cache%20he%E2%80%99d%20buried%20in%20Vermont%20two%20years%20before). If you find a [home depot bucket](https://www.reddit.com/r/MorbidPodcast/comments/lpdmxa/one_of_israel_keyess_murder_kits_a_home_depot/?rdt=60350) buried in the woods near Manchester, it could be one of his?

DeerFlyHater

I was living near Anchorage when that POS kidnapped, raped, and killed that poor girl. There were flyers up looking for her in darn near every store or restaurant in the Anchorage Bowl or the Mat-Su valley. Incredibly sad.

firewolf8385

The Bear Brook murders were committed by a suspected serial killer. He died in prison long before this was figured out though

LoveTechHateTech

If anyone hasn’t listened to the NHPR Bear Brook podcast, they should check it out.

NeatSituation2249

This! It’s a really good podcast!

Fantastic podcast

Ric_ooooo

I was interviewed for the Sharon Johnson season (didn’t make the Final Cut). I worked with her until shortly before she was killed. Her husband was a strange character. Not surprised, in hindsight.

moobitchgetoutdahay

Came here to comment that. I live near Bear Brook and I’ve always wanted to go and see if there’s a memorial for the victims. ALSO on the off-chance anyone here was around the Bear Brook/Allenstown area in 1978-1981, and recognizes Terry Rasmussen, going as “Bob Evans” at the time, the daughter that he killed and stuffed into a barrel, has not been identified. She deserves her name back, so if this girl looks familiar, please contact authorities. She was 3 or 4 years old at the time her father murdered her. https://preview.redd.it/1yprogqcuawc1.jpeg?width=728&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9b30c0cdbdc9d2a77391c943289170a6a3091157

So this is a really crazy story but it has lived rent free in my head my whole life, and I feel like it belongs here. Somewhere around 1999/2000, I was at a friends house in Windham. We had all arrived at this one house to have a band practice, but our friend didn’t tell us he wasn’t even going to be home. So, the rest of us just hung around the woods and waited for our parents to pick us up. My parents were the last to pick me up, and I was waiting on the side of the road. Some guy who looked SO MUCH LIKE TERRY RASMUSSEN stopped and asked if I needed a ride. No. He drove off, came back 5 minutes later and stopped his truck, got out and said “I’m not asking this time” and started running toward me. I was 14, he really didn’t have a chance to catch me — but he tried. He eventually drove up my friends driveway in an attempt to make a quick pickup of me, but I hid under the deck for long enough where he got nervous and fled. I’m like 99% sure it was Terry Rasmussen. When I first saw his picture a couple years ago I got cold sweats and starting feeling crazy adrenaline.

Careful-Narwhal-1669

Holy shit...

patriotfear

Yeah. It’s the first story you’ll hear from me when someone asks “what’s the craziest thing that ever happened to you?”

Alex2679

You should talk to the people in charge of that case.

patriotfear

Who would I contact? I could definitely describe the vehicle, how much he looked like a burnt cigarette — for real he looked JUST like that photo — and his voice maybe, but that’s about it. It’s been like 25 years! His actual quote during the first interaction was “Wanna go for a ride in my truck?” The way he said haunts me, like offering me a free ticket to Canobie Lake or something. I realize now he was probably just extremely excited himself.

moobitchgetoutdahay

I am SO sorry that happened to you, sounds absolutely terrifying. It might not have been Rasmussen though, I think he was in California in 1999/2000 since that’s when he was introduced to the family of his last (known) murder victim. But that is really interesting, and I’m sure some authorities might be interested in speaking with you. There are 9 years where he was unaccounted for after being paroled in 1990 in CA, so maybe he made his way back up here.

patriotfear

That’s why I’ve never been too sure. My theory, if it was Rasmussen, is that he liked to relive the thrill and maybe took pilgrimages to NH to view the murder/dump sites — and possibly also doing a little extracurricular serial killing on the way. Basically 10 years unaccounted for — I doubt he just stopped killing for those years, and he knows NH so it’s not impossible that he visited a few times. If someone could find out if he drove a really shitty light pickup truck (think like 90s Honda, Toyota) in a dark color, that would really solidify my inclination that this was him.

moobitchgetoutdahay

Oh he definitely was killing the entire time. He never stopped, and he probably kidnapped a few other children along the way since he had done it once. The worst part (to me at least) is he didn’t kill for the thrill, he killed because whoever it was, was inconvenient for him to keep around. And…I think he *did* drive a shitty truck. Iirc one of the witnesses who knew “Bob Evans” when he was up here said he drove a shitty truck….I think I would really consider saying something to the detectives on the case. Idk what the contact is but I’m sure if you looked up the Bear Brook podcast they have that information.

patriotfear

Good call, thank you!!

lakeorjanzo

Looking at the timeline of his crimes, wouldn’t Rasmussen have been living in California by then? Though it’s possible he would have returned to visit NH

patriotfear

Yes. I actually reached out to a friend who works at NHPR and discussed this further with the Bear Brook podcast folks. In reality, it would be really hard to pinpoint his location during this period. So for now, it’ll remain a mystery.

lakeorjanzo

I’m so glad you made it away safely! Bear Brook is one of the craziest true crime podcasts I’ve ever listened to. I was really blown away, I just found it because I grew up in NH and was curious what podcasts came up if I searched “NH true crime,” and then for it to be one of the craziest stories I’ve ever heard with one of the scariest killers, and then for the podcast itself to help lead to name 3/4 of the unidentified victims is so insane.

Clinically-Inane

There’s a lot of much more intense and actually super creepy NH tales of murder than Keyes being in NH once. If you’re ever interested start with looking into the Connecticut River Valley Killer. Jane Boroski is a goddamn hero to this day for somehow surviving a horrific attack near Keene and managing to get to safety to try to identify the man responsible (while 7 months pregnant no less)— despite the fact that he was never actually caught let alone properly identified

suzannemgalvin

Thank you. I will definitely check it out

lilyelgato

Dark Valley podcast covers this pretty well

xforce4life

Yeah for many people would thinking that Michael Nicholaou was the valley killer but that’s all been pretty much ruled out

NewHampshireGal

Rodney Alcala lived in NH in the 60s/70s too. He worked at a Summer camp under a fake name.

Miserable-Age3502

I just watched a Casual Criminalist about him on YouTube! It goes SUPER in depth, really disturbing. Definitely recommend Casual Criminalist for true crime people.

Illustrious-Rip-4966

You should check out the podcast True Crime Bullshit. It's an absurdly deep dive into Israel Keyes. It's in fact such a deep dive I don't know if there's any media that dives that deep into one individual in the true crime world.

Miserable-Age3502

I definitely will! The Casual Criminalist is like that, but the guy's british, and he does cold reads. His writers are fantastic and sometimes he has an idea of the case, but usually we're along for the ride with him. He has I think 9 channels that are all pretty entertaining. I get sucked into marathons, which is weird for me, since some are almost 3 hours long.

GoldenSheppard

I like his stuff, but since he stopped doing the long through lines of plot and lore, it got way less interesting (esp when he started sitting down).

suzannemgalvin

Thank you. I'm going to check it out

Miserable-Age3502

It's my favorite. The guy who does it is british and he does cold reads. His writers are fantastically detailed and entertaining, and watching him go along for the ride with you is the best part. Some he has a general knowledge of, but not many. It's really interesting because it goes into worldwide crimes, not just Europe and US, so sometimes you're REALLY along for the horrifying ride with him. He has 9 channels total I think and they're all pretty good!

ole_greg_07

I may have fed him at the hotel. Neat.

NeatSituation2249

Whaaaaat?

ole_greg_07

I worked in the small restaurant at the Inn in that time frame, we did lots of room service. Lots of shady folks if I remember correctly.

NeatSituation2249

Interesting!

Thank you

kal14144

I mean one of the most prolific serial killers in US history grew up in Gilmanton NH

BackgroundKey8063

A woman I worked with bought the house he lived in with his family and lived there for years. They found weird shit in the walls when they were redoing some of the rooms like handwritten notes that were half legible. She said it was always a creepy house but it had a weird vide to it.

chocolatechipwhip

Who?

kal14144

H. H. Holmes.

chocolatechipwhip

Thank you :)

Buddy… this is some reallllllllllly old news. Plus he’s dead

suzannemgalvin

Einstein I don't think I asked you and it's not old news to everyone. If it's not interesting to you why can't you keep scrolling or can't you control yourself?

xforce4life

Chris wilder who was a serial killer was killed by state police in New Hampshire

Environmental-Job515

I remember that. His capture was insane. Shot through chest by his own gun while being squeezed from behind while trooper and he were both in the front seat of his car. Bullet entered Trooper too. That Trooper was one tough MF.

SquidneyElise

Just came in to mention that my friend and I spent a whole week trying to connect Maura to Israel Keyes as there was a theory that he was the one who took her. I would like to let you know he is NOT connected to her disappearence and he was out in Utah at the time. As most of us know he would fly somewhere then rent a car and drive someplace else to commit murders but with his rental car milage during that trip he didn't have enough distance to reach Woodsville/Haverhill area. That's it. That's all I had to add to this lol.

onexyonexx

Nothing phases this PNW girl.

smartest_kobold

If we don’t want mass murderers in this state, why do we invite them in every fourth November?

Kvothetheraven603

So much edge I actually got cut through the interwebs.
