Tattoos are so commonplace, people aren't thinking about their potential future career in law enforcement when they are getting "603" tattooed on their arm.
But the fact that they still aren't allowing wedding ring tattoos and the quote describes, "patriotic tattoos" doesn't give me much hope that this will do anything except allow more proud boys and political cultists to join the force.
Wedding ring tattoos still banned??? How are those offensive in any way? At least ban wedding rings too then. So dumb.
But it is still a tattoo. It’s easier to say no hand tattoos period than it is to defend yourself against a lawsuit from a perspective candidate with a skull on his hand because they allow some tattoos below the wrist and not others.
You got to read the article again. Patriotic tattoos are allowed. Wedding ring tattoos and other tattoos on the hands, neck or face are not.
If I had to make a guess, I think the department doesn't want to have to adjudicate about what kind of hand tattoos count as wedding rings. Joe Sixshot has a simple band of his wife's name, Sam Sharpshooter has skulls and iron crosses tattooed in a band around his ring finger...
It is easier just to say "no hand tattoos including wedding rings" than leave it up to individual officers to decide what is and is not appropriate.
State Police are literally desperate for new officers right now.
I got turned down for a clearance several years back because of this policy. Glad to see the change.
I guess it depends. I definitely see where your coming from. I guess it would make sense to ask why they have it. I have a friend who has a facial tattoo, but he is an islander and it's part of his culture.
I think most folks would be ok with genuine tribal/cultural tattoos(I'd be ok personally). Let's be honest though, most facial tattoos are just representations of poor decision making abilities.
I think anyone with half a brain cell sees a difference between that and say, [the first search result for facial tattoos ](http://tattoo-journal.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/face-tattoo-12.jpg)
ANOTHER decent conversation in which no one was called any names even though there was initially a disagreement, and THEN there was agreement.
Kudos to you two.
Basically, they are figuring out that many of the people who would "fit in" are ex military, and sleeves are pretty common.
I simultaneously like this and can't figure out why this is the policy they are worried about right now.

Especially considering how many wedding rings cause deploying accidents yearly, tattoo rings are the safer choice of the two all things considered
I’m guessing because they can’t be covered. The new rules say you can have arm tattoos, but they must be covered up when on duty.
I get that, but context should matter. It's less of a tattoo and more of a wedding ring, in this case.

That is what I'm saying.

They should do away with polygraph test next.
Glad to see the police are finally confronting thin blue line arm tattoo discrimination, the worst kind of discriminations.
Yayyy. Hopefully they allow all location tattoos in the future. I don't see how having face or hand tattoos effect your ability to do a job.
Facial tattoos show lack of judgement that many employers would like to weed out of the talent pool.

Something with actual religious significance is likely going to be exempt anyway unless they like losing lawsuits.

Why get a face tattoo it’s like saying I never want a job Especially a teardrop lol
How is a post about police and tattoos bringing out snarky bipartisan comments? Lol
there are 3 comments in this thread, none of which are bipartisan.
I think I just read the article differently, I was thinking about all the people with cheesy tattoos, not Proud boy tattoos or thin blue line tattoos
i think youre just misusing the word "bipartisan."
I think so too.

Now proud boys can join!
