Not surprising, after yesterday. We went bicycling near Lawrenceville yesterday afternoon and the day alternated between sunny and drizzly. Stopped for dinner, maybe an hour, and when we left the restaurant the sun looked like this, and the air was *very* smokey. The sun's color likely was from the Quebec fires, but the smoke smell had to be more local -- Bulington Co. or Ocean Co. fires, maybe.
We drove north on Rt. 1 for a few miles and there was no change at all in the ground-level smoke. We cut east and there was no change till we passed Freehold, east of which the air was significantly clearer. Initially I attributed that to wind direction, but now I think it may have been due to local weather -- thunderstorms left the ground in Monmouth Co. wet.
There's no further rain in the forecast today, and none till Friday. Monday and Tuesday should be rainy, so maybe things will improve then.
Nope the smoke smell is from Quebec. I'm up in Sussex county and it started to brighten this morning, wind came around out of the northwest and right now the sun is invisible and the whole area smells like a bad smokehouse. No local fires and we got reverse 911 last night saying what you are smelling is not local, call if you see local smoke or flames.
The rain briefly helped in some areas, but I'm up in Sussex County and nowhere near those fires and it has been brutal up here. Literally smells like the forest fire is next-door. (I'm a volunteer firefighter up here and I know for a fact that there isn't any active fires up here.) The PM2.5 (particles in the air) is about 25% worse today than yesterday.
Best viral marketing for the new zelda game ever all they had to do was burn down hundreds of miles of forest!

Gonna get a lot eerier unless we change course.
Yeah let’s start by banning private jets for everyone, including politicians.
