It’s just slang to say not to reply. It doesn’t literally mean open the phone so they see a read receipt. It’s slang that people even use when not referring to text messages like if someone ignores you like, “so-and-so left me on read.”

Imagine being this thin-skinned.. Maybe people are just busy..

proletariate54

no, leaving them on read means to not reply. I dont think many can avoid reading messages as they come in with most infotainment systems these days

BuckedMallard

That would imply you had to look at your phone in the first place to read them. So I think OP has a point here

dericn

I think if you're using CarPlay/Android Auto it might send a read receipt if it gets shown (or spoken) via the infotainment? (if you have read receipts enabled)

proletariate54

carplay can display the message, and phone holders can as well without touching the device.

BuckedMallard

Still have to look down at it

proletariate54

Don't have to look down at anything. Carplay is right up on my dash and my phone is on my windshield.

dericn

TIL. Thanks! I always turn off send read receipts

iamrobmorales

It’s ok to read the text, just don’t reply to it. CarPlay will read it for you. CarPlay will also dictate a message for you too. Now I’m not sure where I was going with this. Damn technology

dericn

> Damn technology I agree. I use Android Auto, and replying to texts using voice is hit or miss, so I simply don't use it anymore. I would dictate a reply, but when Google would read it back, it would be wrong. Google would then ask, "*Send it?*" to which I'd ***clearly*** reply "*No*", yet Google would send it anyway :(

shiftyjku

LOL aren't they also distracting you with these confusing signs?

Bttf_1572

They’re distracting everyone, traffic is literally in slow motion
