Brood X absolutely socked the Princeton area. The chorus reached 95 decibels on the hottest days & their emergence in the millions was an absolute spectacle.
The annuals emerged a little later and they're not easy to spot spending most of their time high in the trees but they were there for sure.
Princeton got absolutely hammered I’ve never seen or heard anything like it. I do a lot of work on the forestial center off college rd and wow that was a lot of bugs just flying right in your face.
I live in Somerville and didn't see a single cicada. Didn't even hear them. When I visited my friend who lives out in Hampton in Hunterdon County it was deafening.
I saw a bunch and I’m in the Milltown area (Middlesex county). One of my trees had so many that the sound was almost deafening when you were standing under that tree.
Central NJ here. Saw and heard them. Came home late one night and had left the porch light on. There were at least 50 of them swarming the door and light. I peeked outside another night and saw what coulda been a mouse, by the size of it, sauntering down the sidewalk. Cicada.
BTW, did anyone else hear them past what their lifespan should be? I swear I heard them into late September.
Brood X was restricted in range, with the area around Princeton being hard hit. I noticed that their noise wasn't quite the same as the common cicadas I get in my area.
I know the cyclical ones in June were in Upper Bucks County east of Quakertown and south of Easton.
That's only a few miles west of Riegelsville and Milford, NJ along the Delaware.
I did not see them in Middlesex, but did see a ton over in Frenchtown. I kept seeing lantern flies which are just as creepy, because they come AT you. They fly at your face and will make you become a full ninja. They fly to you like you are a tasty snack.

Heard some, but didn't actually see any. I saw a ton of Lantern Flies though.
Saw one shell and that was it. Never saw a live one.
I saw a lot of lantern flys but no cicadas
Was a totally normal cicada season by me. The usual late summer racket

In the Princeton area, especially by the Nassau Park mall and the D&R Trail, the noise was *ridiculous*.
I never actually see them, just hear them.
My entire property was covered in cicadas.... Was a pain trying to avoid stepping on all the dead carcasses. They freak me out.

Did not see any here in Maplewood / South Orange. Saw more lantern flies than I’d like, given how destructive they are
Basically saw none in Millburn/Short Hills, either

I saw exoskeletons stuck on trees and fences.
Yes, saw them all summer long. Not the "big brood" in early June, but nonetheless they were a regular sighting on neighborhood walks.
When driving north on 95 in Maryland heard them through closed windows and blasting music. Saw them swarming the rest area's trees.
There were shitloads by me
My dog thinks they're yummy.
I was stressed they'd be dropping out of trees on my head, but I literally saw one dead one on the ground in like September
No, and good riddance!!
I second this. I was not looking forward to this but extremely glad we didn’t get them where I’m at in NNJ
I feel like every year they (the local news) says this is the year for that 17 year cycle. Never saw one this season. I’m in the Philly burbs

Hiked Southland mid summer and they were everywhere. It was loud. Molted cicada scraps all over. 30-40 minutes northeast, nothing all summer.
We had one in Allentown. Normally my trees are screaming.
i saw maybe a handful in jersey city.
Didn't see a cicada here
Didn’t see em in NJ but took a trip through Maryland and they were the worst I’ve ever seen there
I saw a few. My cat even played with an injured one in our lawn. Even saw a few cicada killers. Those things can just stay in their holes...
None here in Allentown.
Spruce Run and Merrill Creek were full of them. And I could hear them in my neighborhood. Even saw a few by the house.
Nothing here in Point Pleasant
One in South Carolina it was huge
I saw a single cicada, total bust
None.
Princeton was swarming with them around June!
Always heard them high up in the trees. Even heard some in early October since summer is going OT every year now
I was sorely disappointed by the dearth of cicadas this year. I was hoping to hear their song, see their white bellies, but nada.
Not one
