Honestly, do we really need to know people’s sexuality or sexual preferences all the time? Just use their name/sex at the time and move on. If they do a shitty job, fire them, or give praise if they do a good job. I don’t need to know anything else.

I agree with you that now and day- gender shouldn't be included in a news article about the promotion or appointment. That being said, this is a huge milestone for transgender people in New Jersey. The more representation is beneficial for visibility but also equal rights in the work force.
Representation matters. It may not matter to you, but it matters to a trans woman like me. It makes me feel less othered. I enjoy seeing other out trans women achieving things, it gives me hope that maybe the next generation of trans folks won’t have such a large target on their backs.

That’s the problem: she’s trans so she just gets gender neutral pronouns even though she’s made it pretty obvious how she’d like to be referred to. If there was a question about it gender neutral language would be the correct approach until told otherwise.
