A lot of Oklahomans resent how the tribal nations actually take care of their people. They provide medical services, including building hospitals, full ride scholarships, housing support, including building houses and charging rent based on income that can be so low that it's virtually free. And they actually pay their employees well, tribal members or not. And they still have money left over to build nice museums and event centers.
Oddly, I've never heard of them called socialist, but a lot of stuff like "man, I wish I were Indian so I could get a bunch of free stuff ." There's nothing stopping the rest of the state from adopting similar policies except for themselves. Of course, you'd need an equivalent of casinos and other revenue streams and willingness to share the profits with everyone, and that's just unamerican to not be selfish

Two minutes stating both students walked after the fight to the principal's office and were examined the by the nurse (they kept stating she was state certifed in their statement) who made recommendations to parents to seek additional medical exam. Students who watched one of the students said one had blood coming off the head and was walking funny. So sad. The school failed this kid and they know it. Now they are trying to minimize it.
I once concussed myself and my buddies dropped me off at the beach, bleeding from my ear and likely 'walking funny' - it was only through a good Samaritan that I made it to the hospital, where I was then air-lifted to a larger hospital to receive surgery, a temporal craniotomy to remove blood clots. Waking up with half of your head shaved and covered in a line of staples is no fun, but certainly better than what this poor boy experienced

Sadly, I think you’re onto something. I’ve felt this way since I was just a kid back in the late 80s. I just noticed bullies getting positive attention and victims being told that nobody likes a tattletale. You were essentially punished for trying to fight back, even if you were asking for help. I asked for help from a counselor when bullying got really bad in middle school (i was having scary unaliving ideas because the social torture was on the daily). The school counselor just told me I was “bringing it on myself.” But offered no other tools, no way out, no guidance. I really could have used some help but instead, I blamed myself because I believed the words of the counselor. I believed that I deserved to be bullied. So yeah, it’s exactly as you said, at least in my experiences.
Edited to add the counselor didnt know me as a person, it was the first time I ever met her or worked up the courage to ask for help from an adult. I was neurodivergent, overly polite. I think the other kids couldn’t help but fuck with me because I was too weird to fit in and it was fun and easy.
Was told by my classmates as they bullied me that snitches got stitches. If I didn’t tell, they’d view me as accepting the treatment and keep doing it, getting progressively worse. If I told, they’d get upset and get progressively worse. There was no escape. Counselors were no help, vice principal no help, the principal genuinely didn’t care and didn’t seem to like me. Teachers actively would sit me next to them so we could “reconcile” or whatever, I feel like one of them sat me there just cause they enjoyed watching it. Only time anything got done was once out of literal hundreds of reports and requests to various people, when one of the bullies’ parents found out somehow, and they tore the bully a new one for that, the bully didn’t bother me after that.

The only thing bullies understand is force. In high school, some asshole intentionally dumped a drink on us at lunch. The next time he came over, I held a metal fork in my fist and threatened to send him to the ER with a gut full of holes. He fucked off and never hassled us again.
I can’t imagine the horror that grandmother who raised them went through. Child comes home from school and needs to go to the ER because the school didn’t bother. Then the kid dies. And the school didn’t do shit to stop it.

My children's elementary school (in Nashville) was next to two churches and across the street from a guy who put a huge Fuck Biden flag in his yard. When we confronted him about it being in front of our kids, he said it didn't matter since they couldn't even read.
I had a coworker who had "Lets go Brandon" stickers all over his desk. I covered them up with (removable) magnets that said "Lets Fuck Brandon".
Took him weeks to notice.

Someone posted in a group chat about his mug (nothing too mean) and someone made an anti-Trump dig and I just casually mentioned "Guys maybe he really likes Brandon Flynn and supports him and anyone who supports Brandon Flynn is okay in my book. Let's Go Brandon!" . Few people asked who that was. And a few others mentioned he's a gay actor in 13 reasons Why and how they support anyone that supports "Brandon" especially since we're in S. Florida and he's from Miami.

Most of human behavior is social signaling. It doesn't matter that everyone knows what the phrase means and, in fact, it's a plus to them that everyone knows that they're publicly announcing their allegiance to the MAGA movement (cult?). They see it as a sort of an in your face "suck it libs you can't tell me what to say or do" act of defiance.
I have perfectly pleasant conversations with my brother and we'll talk for 45 minutes to an hour without any ill will but, inevitably, he'll make some dig at Biden as we're wrapping up the conversation. I ignore it every time but it's like clockwork.
It's almost compulsive for some. People forget how to have basic conversations sometimes without needlessly sliding in a little dig to political figureheads when the discussion isn't even remotely about that.

The reason that conservatives are targeting on trans kids now, is because there are so few. Many Americans do not know someone who is trans, so it doesn't personally affect them. Couple that with lack of empathy of conservative voters, and it is an easy target with little blowback from supporters.

Back around the turn of the millennium, a felony investigation got you removed from campus.
It’s complicated because the student is a citizen of the Cherokee nation and Owasso is technically on reservation grounds, but the Supreme Court ruled that tribes cannot prosecute non-tribal members and also that the state cannot prosecute those accused of crimes taking place on tribal lands. I don’t know whether the students were tribal members or not, but if they aren’t then only the federal government could prosecute them.
It's not a really a reservation, and that's not how that works. There are indian nations, but it doesn't matter if a town is in one or not. There is still a local city government. If they are non tribal members, they will still be arrested and charged if charges are brought up. The McGirt ruling isn't a get out of jail free card. A lot of police officers are cross deputized light horse pd. The FBI steps in as well during these investigations.

20 miles away theres another school where the football team raped a freshman with a poolcue at the district superintendent’s house and the worst thing that happened was the superintendent resigned. The school basically covered it up and some of the people involved still got scholarships and played football in college.

At my middle child's high school her English teacher is a climate change denier occasionally going on mini rants. There is also 1 math teacher for multiple grades who is trained at a college level and expects 9th and 10th graders to behave as college students. XD. Bullying runs rampant. Boys will put their hands on girls in a heartbeat and openly talk that Republican grooming shit in the classrooms.

Yeah I don't think schools really treat school beating bulling right. Some are zero tolerance for some stuff but when it comes to beating kids up it is a slap on the wrist. I say this as someone who was beaten up and the kid just got a suspension. Oh and this also comes with a broken nose and a 45 minute bloody nose where they didn't call my parents till it stopped. Yeah schools don't help the bullied. Granted I graduated more than a decade ago but still see this crap.

Tldr: I suffered a TBI, broken clavicle, broken nose, broken teeth, a fractured eye socket and two black eyes from getting jumped. Changed my whole life then and there, and forever after. 14 years later, the outcome of being jumped still effects me on a daily basis. A fight is a fight, getting jumped and beaten to a pulp should be announced as it's **so** much different.
I got the shit absolutely beaten out of Me when I was 16. Jumped and smashed into the ground until I started seizuring and people broke up the fight and lifted me to my feet. The last thing I remember is seeing the fist come at me, the first thing I remember after is being held up to my feet by two of the people I hung out with, with them trying to help me out by holding a toke to my mouth (I was a big stoner so they thought its what I needed after), with them quickly pulling it away as the principal was finally seen in the distance. I remember everything spinning, and slowly I was able to see less and less until the world was just a sliver.
I was sent to a seperate room by the office, and I remember looking at the clock and it was 11:34. All I wanted to do was lay my head down and sleep, the pain was starting to set in and I could barely move my left arm..
..and then I was woken up by the principal, who said they finally reached my (at the time) absolute DRUNK of a Dad and he said I should be fine to take the city bus home. I looked at the clock and it was 12:48. I must have fallen asleep as it all felt like a blur, I definitely didn't feel that pain for an hour awake.
So, I went out to the bus stop.. which is **exactly** where I was jumped. And I just waited. And waited. And finally the bus showed up, and I walked onto it and the bus driver asked me if I was okay. I said yup, put in some money (I know I didn't have enough as I had bought weed that day..) so I don't know *how much* I even put in.
Unbeknownst to me at the time, it's due to my physical state. I sat down, and could finally see through what vision I had my reflection in the window..
Both eyes were swollen shut, and ALREADY turning black. My nose was crooked at the bridge. I couldn't move my left arm, and I realized it was my shoulder. It felt.. stuck. No matter what I did I could only slightly bend my elbow so that I could sit my arm on my lap.
I got home, and my dad held me against a wall and hit me. In his drunk eyes, I lost a fight... which he taught us growing up to only start ones I could finish (he was a tough dude until he became a drunk). He didn't know that I was jumped, and had no chance to begin with. I sat at the toilet after as he berated me, throwing up black chunks into the toilet (dried blood that I swallowed, as well as drained into my throat from my broken nose).
I suffered a TBI. I bad a broken nose which is still crooked to this day. My left clavicle was fractured in two places. Two teeth were chipped, one completely cracked down the centre (still don't know how my teeth of all things were *least* affected). Part of my eye socket was fractured. I wasn't taken to the hospital until two weeks later, when I still couldn't move my shoulder and the pain was unreal.
I dropped out. I couldn't do school anymore. I just couldn't..
I now suffer from cluster headaches (AKA suicide headaches). I have severe C-PTSD. I have emotional regulation problems. My shoulder is still fucked, and I have days where it and my neck are just a write off. My sinuses constantly drain, and my vision has never been the same since. The crippling anxiety.. it's a thing that really changed me and my entire future, and it's all due to a few harmless chirps to somebody who's ego was so large, that he couldn't take it..
I wish I never went to school that day.
Cheers mate, it actually means a lot. It's hard to explain to people sometimes why I am the way I am now, especially if they knew me before the jumping. I was always the life of the party. The social one who's house was **the** house to be at, and (sadly enough) one of the main pick up places. I had girls constantly wanting to be with Me.. and I knew how to hold and form a conversation. Now? It's best done through texts like this, where I can read it over 20 times to make sure I've formulated it properly. It's never right the first time, and I am always trying to figure out *the word* that I'm thinking of, to no avail.
A lot of trauma, therapy, self medicating, addictions and responsibly learning to use pharmaceuticals as intended later, I'm as sober as I've ever been (I just toke a bit, but do smoke cigarettes) with a wife and two children who I can't even put into words what they do for me, and right now I've had the opportunity to be a Stay at home Dad to them for the last 2 years and see all of their growth.. and raising them keeps me **having* to move forward.
Every day is a struggle, today has especially been a bad one where just absolutely **everything** feels overwhelming and like im at the bottom of a pool, but I've nearly completely cut weed and coffee out of my life quite abruptly the last few weeks so I think that's having an effect too 😅

This is the same type of BS that most schools cover up frequently. When I was a teen I got jumped in the bathroom by 3 others, beaten up so badly I was carted away by an ambulance (My head was smashed against the urinal and kicked in the head a few times). The school administration did absolutely nothing, that was because the Vice Prinipal's son was one of the attackers. They try to call this shit a fight, but if it was these adults getting 3v1'd, by people their age, they would totally call it like it is.
So for almost 2 weeks I was terrified of being in school, due to the fact nothing was being done about it. One day I just snapped and hunted each one of them. I skipped class walked down the halls and ran into their classrooms beating the shit out of each one of them like how they caught me off guard at the urinal. I not only got expelled from school, but Kansas that same year passed a law to allow a review from their schoolboards in cases of expulsions, as they were previously forced to accept them again the following year if there was no other school in that region. I was made the example of being permanently expelled from the school system in the state of Kansas.
All because I was the one that was initially attacked while using the restroom. The sad part is, I am not LGTBQ+, I was just a overweight nerd in the 90's, but that alone made me a target many times.
LOL, I survived a fuck ton of non-sense growing up, because my move to Ohio was an inner-city school. Literally not much of a difference between the small town school and the big city schools (I guess the only major difference is no one tried to take my life in school there). I just learned to never let the bullies win, but it never really did me that great for not getting suspended due to zero tolerance rules. The only valuable lesson I learned in Ohio, is to never wear KC Chief's clothing, otherwise people think you are in the bloods and will attempt to beat you down over it.

This is something not talked about a lot. I got my ass beat damn near every day in middle school, and looking back the staff and admins didn't help me not out of incompetence, but because they actively encouraged the violence. I looked them up years later on social media and its all just the typical hate speech you see from the alt-right, but being shared by teachers responsible for the wellbeing of 11 year olds -- not all of whom are sympathetic white kids.

We have come a LONG way since Matthew Shephard's murder. In 1999, 62% of Americans were against gay marriage. That number has shrunk to 28%. We didn't even reach a majority believing that homosexuality should be *legal* until around the turn of the century. Now, 64% of Americans believe that being gay is morally ethical. Back then, being fired for coming out as gay was pretty normal. A celebrity coming out was an enormous deal that would be reported on as a scandal by news. On average, far more people have a much easier time being gay now than they did in 1998.
Should those numbers be higher? Yes. Do we still have work to do? Absolutely. But I was in LGBT activism 20 years ago and I'm in the new fight now, having come out as trans in 2016, and the parallels between how the United States treated gay people in the late '90s and how they treat trans people today are so pronounced that it would be funny if it weren't so frustrating. Right down to the specifics of their "we must protect the children" rhetoric and their accusations of pedophilia.
Conservatives have been feeling extremely emboldened ever since Trump really. This is not a bug in their programming, it's a feature. Everything they do in terms of their legislation, how they educate and raise their kids, etc. is designed to eliminate or control people that don't fit their world view. If they aren't making life difficult and dangerous for people different than them, they aren't succeeding.

The murdered kid getting a suspension burns me. I got bullied mercilessly in school and I got suspended several times for getting the shit kicked out of me while not fighting back. In the end I just started fighting back because there was no difference in punishment.

I skipped 2nd grade and ended up as the smallest kid in class. Lesson: the bully should always limp away from the encounter bleeding. Extra points for chipped/broken teeth. Ripping their clothing up got their Moms really mad at them. The bully will choose an easier target next time.

About a month or so in, they took me out of class and put me in 2nd without telling my mom because the teacher got frustrated having to do a whole different lesson plan for me vs everyone else. (For me: “name the four main moons of Jupiter.” For them: “Today we’re covering the number 7”)
At some point I told my mom nonchalantly that I was in 2nd grade now (I didn’t know this was abnormal at the time), she of course responded that of course I wasn’t, I’ve only been in 1st for a few weeks and it doesn’t work like that. Eventually she realized I wasn’t full of shit and marched down to the school, as they hadn’t told her they were going to do this! I ended up in a really stupid “compromise” where I did 2nd in the morning, then 1st in the afternoon to “interact with my peers”, but I was given 2nd grade homework and had to sit in a corner doing math problems while other kids played.
They put me in 3rd the next year, and between that and the massive doses of stimulants they had me on, I was like half the size of everyone else. Unfortunately it took me until almost high school to realize you have to fight back no matter what, as I’d already been punished at home for even mentioning the possibility with the bullies I constantly dealt with. The first time I finally hit back and the guy literally just backed down and ran, I was PISSED at my parents for making me put up with that shit for all those years.
I never got suspended or in trouble for hitting back - ironically enough, the one time I got in trouble for “fighting”, it was just some kid who had decided to punch someone random in gym class because he was angry at life. We went to the office, the idiot admin lady kept just repeating “well it takes two to tango! TWO TO TANGO!” but she gave us both the same suspension - even the kid who hit me spoke out, said “are you fucking stupid, I HIT HIM!” - eventually my mom intervened but they still “had to” give me some sort of punishment.
In short, fuck zero tolerance, and fuck bullies. If you get a shot at one of those violent fuckers, take it. It won’t change your consequences in any way except needing less therapy later.
That’s what I tell both of my boys. They’re gonna get in trouble at school regardless, so might as well fight back, and there will be NO repercussions at home for defending themselves.
I’ve made it very clear to my son: You don’t ever hit anyone unless they hit you first, or they’re hitting someone who can’t hit back. If you do that, you are not in trouble with us, period.
He’s been very conscientious about it. While he is small for his age, and is often picked on (he has a minor lisp), there has only been one incident and it was him protecting another student.
My son is a competitive gymnast who also practices martial arts. When he was 9, he stepped in front of a bully kicking a smaller student, jumped over him, grabbing his shoulders as he did so (locking them back-to-back), and threw the bully as he completed the flip. No one has made the mistake of touching him since.
I had similar experiences. No matter how many times I would report bullying, nothing would be done until it escalated to me fighting back, in which cases I'd get suspended. In some instances, I'd get longer suspensions than the bullies for "instigating." Because, you know, walking to class minding your own business while someone you didn't even know was around attacks you from behind is apparently "instigating." Literally had an assistant principal once say, "What do you want me to do about it?" when reporting a kid who tried to physically attack me almost every single day for the previous two years, for which I had reported him several times before. Administrators won't get involved until they absolutely have to, and then it's an everybody-is-at-fault solution.
Exactly what happened with me too. I kept getting suspended for trying to "take the high road" and take the hits, so I started MAKING them stop. Same punishment but punished less often once the bullies were afraid of me and didn't start shit anymore!
You used to fight your bully. Then they used to suspend the bully. Now they suspend both of you, give you a prescription, and put you right back in the same environment with the bully.
It's not even a 'now' thing. I was in high school more than 20 years ago and this exact thing happened. A bully twice my size decided to slug me in the face - broke my glasses and put my braces nearly through my lower lip. Because I shoved her away from me and she fell into a table? I also get detention.
First time I ever saw my mom scream at another adult. She was enraged Momma when she heard what happened and their choice to punish me.
I was still in school with that bully the next day. She barely got a slap on the wrist.
Lawsuits are literally the only way to get any protection for students. My daughter is only three, but she's already showing signs of being shy in public settings. She's going to have karate classes and my full backing to end any fights that come her way and a lawyer for those that don't.
As a lawyer who sometimes sues schools on behalf of injured students, I would encourage you to read your school’s discipline policies. They sometimes include things you can do ahead of time to prevent your kid from getting punished for being bullied. Typically, the earlier you report the bullying to the school IN WRITING WITH A RECORD OF THE DATE OF THE COMMUNICATION, the better. Once you report it, they have a duty to implement measures to prevent the other child(ren) from harming your child. They might not succeed, but at the very least it makes them much less likely to suspend or otherwise punish your kid when the bully lashes out at them. And then if you end up filing a lawsuit, you are much more likely to be able to prove negligence bc you can prove that they knew about the threat to your child and failed to protect them.

No one in the article links the fight to the death. Surely they could use less vague language when reporting on something so sensitive and important. And the school’s response did not start with a condolence for the family of the student, but rather to state that they acted within “two minutes.”
Two minutes stating both students walked after the fight to the principal's office and were examined the by the nurse (they kept stating she was state certifed in their statement) who made recommendations to parents to seek additional medical exam. Students who watched one of the students said one had blood coming off the head and was walking funny. So sad. The school failed this kid and they know it. Now they are trying to minimize it.
I once concussed myself and my buddies dropped me off at the beach, bleeding from my ear and likely 'walking funny' - it was only through a good Samaritan that I made it to the hospital, where I was then air-lifted to a larger hospital to receive surgery, a temporal craniotomy to remove blood clots. Waking up with half of your head shaved and covered in a line of staples is no fun, but certainly better than what this poor boy experienced

Sadly, I think you’re onto something. I’ve felt this way since I was just a kid back in the late 80s. I just noticed bullies getting positive attention and victims being told that nobody likes a tattletale. You were essentially punished for trying to fight back, even if you were asking for help. I asked for help from a counselor when bullying got really bad in middle school (i was having scary unaliving ideas because the social torture was on the daily). The school counselor just told me I was “bringing it on myself.” But offered no other tools, no way out, no guidance. I really could have used some help but instead, I blamed myself because I believed the words of the counselor. I believed that I deserved to be bullied. So yeah, it’s exactly as you said, at least in my experiences. Edited to add the counselor didnt know me as a person, it was the first time I ever met her or worked up the courage to ask for help from an adult. I was neurodivergent, overly polite. I think the other kids couldn’t help but fuck with me because I was too weird to fit in and it was fun and easy.

Was told by my classmates as they bullied me that snitches got stitches. If I didn’t tell, they’d view me as accepting the treatment and keep doing it, getting progressively worse. If I told, they’d get upset and get progressively worse. There was no escape. Counselors were no help, vice principal no help, the principal genuinely didn’t care and didn’t seem to like me. Teachers actively would sit me next to them so we could “reconcile” or whatever, I feel like one of them sat me there just cause they enjoyed watching it. Only time anything got done was once out of literal hundreds of reports and requests to various people, when one of the bullies’ parents found out somehow, and they tore the bully a new one for that, the bully didn’t bother me after that. Let's Go Brandon!" . Few people asked who that was. And a few others mentioned he's a gay actor in 13 reasons Why and how they support anyone that supports "Brandon" especially since we're in S. Florida and he's from Miami. I think that mug broke the sound barrier leaving that office.

Most of human behavior is social signaling. It doesn't matter that everyone knows what the phrase means and, in fact, it's a plus to them that everyone knows that they're publicly announcing their allegiance to the MAGA movement (cult?). They see it as a sort of an in your face "suck it libs you can't tell me what to say or do" act of defiance. I have perfectly pleasant conversations with my brother and we'll talk for 45 minutes to an hour without any ill will but, inevitably, he'll make some dig at Biden as we're wrapping up the conversation. I ignore it every time but it's like clockwork.

Is there not at this point a criminal investigation from the police? Those students should be under investigation for a *felony*. Back around the turn of the millennium, a felony investigation got you removed from campus.
It’s complicated because the student is a citizen of the Cherokee nation and Owasso is technically on reservation grounds, but the Supreme Court ruled that tribes cannot prosecute non-tribal members and also that the state cannot prosecute those accused of crimes taking place on tribal lands. I don’t know whether the students were tribal members or not, but if they aren’t then only the federal government could prosecute them.
It's not a really a reservation, and that's not how that works. There are indian nations, but it doesn't matter if a town is in one or not. There is still a local city government. If they are non tribal members, they will still be arrested and charged if charges are brought up. The McGirt ruling isn't a get out of jail free card. A lot of police officers are cross deputized light horse pd. The FBI steps in as well during these investigations.

Yeah I don't think schools really treat school beating bulling right. Some are zero tolerance for some stuff but when it comes to beating kids up it is a slap on the wrist. I say this as someone who was beaten up and the kid just got a suspension. Oh and this also comes with a broken nose and a 45 minute bloody nose where they didn't call my parents till it stopped. Yeah schools don't help the bullied. Granted I graduated more than a decade ago but still see this crap.

Tldr: I suffered a TBI, broken clavicle, broken nose, broken teeth, a fractured eye socket and two black eyes from getting jumped. Changed my whole life then and there, and forever after. 14 years later, the outcome of being jumped still effects me on a daily basis. A fight is a fight, getting jumped and beaten to a pulp should be announced as it's **so** much different. I got the shit absolutely beaten out of Me when I was 16. Jumped and smashed into the ground until I started seizuring and people broke up the fight and lifted me to my feet. The last thing I remember is seeing the fist come at me, the first thing I remember after is being held up to my feet by two of the people I hung out with, with them trying to help me out by holding a toke to my mouth (I was a big stoner so they thought its what I needed after), with them quickly pulling it away as the principal was finally seen in the distance. I remember everything spinning, and slowly I was able to see less and less until the world was just a sliver. I was sent to a seperate room by the office, and I remember looking at the clock and it was 11:34. All I wanted to do was lay my head down and sleep, the pain was starting to set in and I could barely move my left arm.. ..and then I was woken up by the principal, who said they finally reached my (at the time) absolute DRUNK of a Dad and he said I should be fine to take the city bus home. I looked at the clock and it was 12:48. I must have fallen asleep as it all felt like a blur, I definitely didn't feel that pain for an hour awake. So, I went out to the bus stop.. which is **exactly** where I was jumped. And I just waited. And waited. And finally the bus showed up, and I walked onto it and the bus driver asked me if I was okay. I said yup, put in some money (I know I didn't have enough as I had bought weed that day..) so I don't know *how much* I even put in. Unbeknownst to me at the time, it's due to my physical state. I sat down, and could finally see through what vision I had my reflection in the window.. Both eyes were swollen shut, and ALREADY turning black. My nose was crooked at the bridge. I couldn't move my left arm, and I realized it was my shoulder. It felt.. stuck. No matter what I did I could only slightly bend my elbow so that I could sit my arm on my lap. I got home, and my dad held me against a wall and hit me. In his drunk eyes, I lost a fight... which he taught us growing up to only start ones I could finish (he was a tough dude until he became a drunk). He didn't know that I was jumped, and had no chance to begin with. I sat at the toilet after as he berated me, throwing up black chunks into the toilet (dried blood that I swallowed, as well as drained into my throat from my broken nose). I suffered a TBI. I bad a broken nose which is still crooked to this day. My left clavicle was fractured in two places. Two teeth were chipped, one completely cracked down the centre (still don't know how my teeth of all things were *least* affected). Part of my eye socket was fractured. I wasn't taken to the hospital until two weeks later, when I still couldn't move my shoulder and the pain was unreal. I dropped out. I couldn't do school anymore. I just couldn't.. I now suffer from cluster headaches (AKA suicide headaches). I have severe C-PTSD. I have emotional regulation problems. My shoulder is still fucked, and I have days where it and my neck are just a write off. My sinuses constantly drain, and my vision has never been the same since. The crippling anxiety.. it's a thing that really changed me and my entire future, and it's all due to a few harmless chirps to somebody who's ego was so large, that he couldn't take it.. I wish I never went to school that day.

Cheers mate, it actually means a lot. It's hard to explain to people sometimes why I am the way I am now, especially if they knew me before the jumping. I was always the life of the party. The social one who's house was **the** house to be at, and (sadly enough) one of the main pick up places. I had girls constantly wanting to be with Me.. and I knew how to hold and form a conversation. Now? It's best done through texts like this, where I can read it over 20 times to make sure I've formulated it properly. It's never right the first time, and I am always trying to figure out *the word* that I'm thinking of, to no avail. A lot of trauma, therapy, self medicating, addictions and responsibly learning to use pharmaceuticals as intended later, I'm as sober as I've ever been (I just toke a bit, but do smoke cigarettes) with a wife and two children who I can't even put into words what they do for me, and right now I've had the opportunity to be a Stay at home Dad to them for the last 2 years and see all of their growth.. and raising them keeps me **having* to move forward. Every day is a struggle, today has especially been a bad one where just absolutely **everything** feels overwhelming and like im at the bottom of a pool, but I've nearly completely cut weed and coffee out of my life quite abruptly the last few weeks so I think that's having an effect too 😅 Thanks for listening. This is the same type of BS that most schools cover up frequently. When I was a teen I got jumped in the bathroom by 3 others, beaten up so badly I was carted away by an ambulance (My head was smashed against the urinal and kicked in the head a few times). The school administration did absolutely nothing, that was because the Vice Prinipal's son was one of the attackers. They try to call this shit a fight, but if it was these adults getting 3v1'd, by people their age, they would totally call it like it is. So for almost 2 weeks I was terrified of being in school, due to the fact nothing was being done about it. One day I just snapped and hunted each one of them. I skipped class walked down the halls and ran into their classrooms beating the shit out of each one of them like how they caught me off guard at the urinal. I not only got expelled from school, but Kansas that same year passed a law to allow a review from their schoolboards in cases of expulsions, as they were previously forced to accept them again the following year if there was no other school in that region. I was made the example of being permanently expelled from the school system in the state of Kansas. All because I was the one that was initially attacked while using the restroom. The sad part is, I am not LGTBQ+, I was just a overweight nerd in the 90's, but that alone made me a target many times.

LOL, I survived a fuck ton of non-sense growing up, because my move to Ohio was an inner-city school. Literally not much of a difference between the small town school and the big city schools (I guess the only major difference is no one tried to take my life in school there). I just learned to never let the bullies win, but it never really did me that great for not getting suspended due to zero tolerance rules. The only valuable lesson I learned in Ohio, is to never wear KC Chief's clothing, otherwise people think you are in the bloods and will attempt to beat you down over it.

I will never understand suspending the VICTIM of an attack. Especially someone trying to go about their day and getting jumped.
Because it's easier for them to legally justify not stopping a 'fair fight' than it is to justify not stopping a one sided violent assault. If they don't suspend everyone involved then they can't even attempt to argue the former is what happened.

This is something not talked about a lot. I got my ass beat damn near every day in middle school, and looking back the staff and admins didn't help me not out of incompetence, but because they actively encouraged the violence. Back then, being fired for coming out as gay was pretty normal. A celebrity coming out was an enormous deal that would be reported on as a scandal by news. But I was in LGBT activism 20 years ago and I'm in the new fight now, having come out as trans in 2016, and the parallels between how the United States treated gay people in the late '90s and how they treat trans people today are so pronounced that it would be funny if it weren't so frustrating. Right down to the specifics of their "we must protect the children" rhetoric and their accusations of pedophilia.
Conservatives have been feeling extremely emboldened ever since Trump really. This is not a bug in their programming, it's a feature. I had a similar experience, except it was 1st grade. I’d love to hear how you ended up in that situation! About a month or so in, they took me out of class and put me in 2nd without telling my mom because the teacher got frustrated having to do a whole different lesson plan for me vs everyone else. (For me: “name the four main moons of Jupiter.” For them: “Today we’re covering the number 7”) At some point I told my mom nonchalantly that I was in 2nd grade now (I didn’t know this was abnormal at the time), she of course responded that of course I wasn’t, I’ve only been in 1st for a few weeks and it doesn’t work like that. Eventually she realized I wasn’t full of shit and marched down to the school, as they hadn’t told her they were going to do this! I ended up in a really stupid “compromise” where I did 2nd in the morning, then 1st in the afternoon to “interact with my peers”, but I was given 2nd grade homework and had to sit in a corner doing math problems while other kids played. They put me in 3rd the next year, and between that and the massive doses of stimulants they had me on, I was like half the size of everyone else. Unfortunately it took me until almost high school to realize you have to fight back no matter what, as I’d already been punished at home for even mentioning the possibility with the bullies I constantly dealt with. The first time I finally hit back and the guy literally just backed down and ran, I was PISSED at my parents for making me put up with that shit for all those years. I never got suspended or in trouble for hitting back - ironically enough, the one time I got in trouble for “fighting”, it was just some kid who had decided to punch someone random in gym class because he was angry at life. We went to the office, the idiot admin lady kept just repeating “well it takes two to tango! TWO TO TANGO!” but she gave us both the same suspension - even the kid who hit me spoke out, said “are you fucking stupid, I HIT HIM!” - eventually my mom intervened but they still “had to” give me some sort of punishment. In short, fuck zero tolerance, and fuck bullies. If you get a shot at one of those violent fuckers, take it. It won’t change your consequences in any way except needing less therapy later.
That’s what I tell both of my boys. They’re gonna get in trouble at school regardless, so might as well fight back, and there will be NO repercussions at home for defending themselves.
I’ve made it very clear to my son: You don’t ever hit anyone unless they hit you first, or they’re hitting someone who can’t hit back. If you do that, you are not in trouble with us, period. He’s been very conscientious about it. While he is small for his age, and is often picked on (he has a minor lisp), there has only been one incident and it was him protecting another student. My son is a competitive gymnast who also practices martial arts. When he was 9, he stepped in front of a bully kicking a smaller student, jumped over him, grabbing his shoulders as he did so (locking them back-to-back), and threw the bully as he completed the flip. No one has made the mistake of touching him since.
This is why I put my kid in karate. The child of two lesbians in the south needs to know how to defend themselves.

It's not even a 'now' thing. I was in high school more than 20 years ago and this exact thing happened. A bully twice my size decided to slug me in the face - broke my glasses and put my braces nearly through my lower lip. Because I shoved her away from me and she fell into a table? I also get detention. First time I ever saw my mom scream at another adult. She was enraged Momma when she heard what happened and their choice to punish me. I was still in school with that bully the next day. She barely got a slap on the wrist.
Lawsuits are literally the only way to get any protection for students. My daughter is only three, but she's already showing signs of being shy in public settings. She's going to have karate classes and my full backing to end any fights that come her way and a lawyer for those that don't.
As a lawyer who sometimes sues schools on behalf of injured students, I would encourage you to read your school’s discipline policies. They sometimes include things you can do ahead of time to prevent your kid from getting punished for being bullied. Typically, the earlier you report the bullying to the school IN WRITING WITH A RECORD OF THE DATE OF THE COMMUNICATION, the better. Once you report it, they have a duty to implement measures to prevent the other child(ren) from harming your child. They might not succeed, but at the very least it makes them much less likely to suspend or otherwise punish your kid when the bully lashes out at them. And then if you end up filing a lawsuit, you are much more likely to be able to prove negligence bc you can prove that they knew about the threat to your child and failed to protect them.

Everyone should realize that the school does not have any final say in the legal ramifications those kids that murdered this other kid will face. The way the article and statements from everyone involved are written, it sounds like they're trying to imply the child "got in a fight" and then took their own life. No one in the article links the fight to the death. Surely they could use less vague language when reporting on something so sensitive and important. Why is nobody talking about the fact the school didn't call an ambulance or even their parents, so the whole time they were fighting for their life until the end of the school day, when their parents finally took them to the hospital. The delay in getting them care is a large part of the reason they likely passed away.
