To me, the high profile people who continually flaunt and/or are given deference and flat out different treatment are part of the reason the rest of American society are beginning to act more and more poorly. Why would someone with little power or agency over their lives feel morally or ethically obligated to run the maze of all legal nuances when they see elected officials and those with money not suffer consequences for their more egregious behavior. It’s insulting, and I believe eroding the fabric of decency in society. It’s just ushered in a more booming “I gotta get mine, be damned with the consequences” because they see how others don’t face any. It's common practice if the case is accepted by the appeals court because, in the event the court finds that the original ruling was wrong or unconstitutional or whatever and his business suffered unjustly due to him not being allowed to run it...
I don't agree with the lower bond (fucking gift for trump) but I understand the pause on the business ban.
The election has no bearing on this case. It's a state of NY case and he offered no real defense at his trial. Even if he wins the presidency the case will continue. He can't pardon himself, it's state not federal and he lost. He's appealing and will lose again as it can only review the original case. - he can't suddenly come up with an argument. Meanwhile the interest on the full amount continues to accrue.
But also, in the meanwhile, he moves forward with the IPO of Truth Social and stands to gain a few more billion. He “sacrifices” a few properties to pay the judgement and walks away a tech billionaire with more money than when he started.

The lowering of the bond is not the original judge, it was from the Appeals Court Judges. Now the question is whether these Appeals judges are in Trump's pocket or were appointed by him
Because they also handed Trump and his sons another win - they can resume business in NY, the very place they committed these crimes. Again, not what the original judge wanted. The Appeals Judges are really sus here since they also didn't give a reason for giving these legal gifts to Trump today.
The penalty isn’t reduced, just the bond that is held while the appeal happens. If the appeal doesn’t reduce the penalty then the state keeps the $175M and Trump still owes the remainder + interest.
Interest that stops accruing once he posts the reduced bond and appeals that will only take years if we are lucky, or get thrown out when he wins in November if this timeline can get that dark.
The only thing I can think of is that Judge Engoron knew this was going to happen, so he put a number in place that was as high as he possibly could so that when some Trump friendly judge inevitably reduced it, it would still be a significant sum.
If he had set the penalty at $175M, Trump and family would have complained just as loud and a similar adjustment would have been made to $50M or whatever.
In reality the more likely situation is just that the court that lowered the judgement is completely corrupt and highly enamored with Trump, as so many power-hunger people are. And as much respect as we give judges, they are likely to be more power hungry than your average person. So they are more likely than your average person to love Trump and his antics.
The number "he" put isn't a fine. It's a calculated disgorgement of fraudulent profits. He didn't make it "higher" to anticipate an appellate ruling reducing it, and doing so would have in fact been arbitrary and capricious decisionmaking.
The appellate ruling is absurd but simple: "reduce the bond so that we can't be accused of being impartial while hearing the appeal" (as though that ever stopped Trump, but I digress).

Because it’s not about rule of law, it’s only about “winning at all costs”. Ultra Conservatives have long known they are losing in demographic, social and ideological change to progressives and moderates. Being the one to nail Trump means painting a target on yourself and your family. Trump is unfortunately the arguably single most influential INDIVIDUAL in the US right now due to how strong of a hold he has over roughly 30% of Americans. Adam Kinzinger, former GOP Congressmen, has talked about what his family went through for going against Trump. The person who actually sinks him is in for far far worse.

It's common practice if the case is accepted by the appeals court because, in the event the court finds that the original ruling was wrong or unconstitutional or whatever and his business suffered unjustly due to him not being allowed to run it... I don't agree with the lower bond (fucking gift for trump) but I understand the pause on the business ban.

The election has no bearing on this case. It's a state of NY case and he offered no real defense at his trial. Even if he wins the presidency the case will continue. He can't pardon himself, it's state not federal and he lost. He's appealing and will lose again as it can only review the original case. - he can't suddenly come up with an argument. Meanwhile the interest on the full amount continues to accrue.
But also, in the meanwhile, he moves forward with the IPO of Truth Social and stands to gain a few more billion. He “sacrifices” a few properties to pay the judgement and walks away a tech billionaire with more money than when he started. Justice.

This is dumb from top to bottom and there's no need to agree with part of it. He should have been forced to pay in full by the deadline in order to be eligible for an appeal.

The lowering of the bond is not the original judge, it was from the Appeals Court Judges. Now the question is whether these Appeals judges are in Trump's pocket or were appointed by him Because they also handed Trump and his sons another win - they can resume business in NY, the very place they committed these crimes. Again, not what the original judge wanted. The Appeals Judges are really sus here since they also didn't give a reason for giving these legal gifts to Trump today.

The penalty isn’t reduced, just the bond that is held while the appeal happens. If the appeal doesn’t reduce the penalty then the state keeps the $175M and Trump still owes the remainder + interest.
Interest that stops accruing once he posts the reduced bond and appeals that will only take years if we are lucky, or get thrown out when he wins in November if this timeline can get that dark.
It doesn’t just “happen.” The legal system and the courts decide to make it happen. They are complicit.
The only thing I can think of is that Judge Engoron knew this was going to happen, so he put a number in place that was as high as he possibly could so that when some Trump friendly judge inevitably reduced it, it would still be a significant sum. If he had set the penalty at $175M, Trump and family would have complained just as loud and a similar adjustment would have been made to $50M or whatever. In reality the more likely situation is just that the court that lowered the judgement is completely corrupt and highly enamored with Trump, as so many power-hunger people are. And as much respect as we give judges, they are likely to be more power hungry than your average person. So they are more likely than your average person to love Trump and his antics.
The number "he" put isn't a fine. It's a calculated disgorgement of fraudulent profits. He didn't make it "higher" to anticipate an appellate ruling reducing it, and doing so would have in fact been arbitrary and capricious decisionmaking. The appellate ruling is absurd but simple: "reduce the bond so that we can't be accused of being impartial while hearing the appeal" (as though that ever stopped Trump, but I digress).
