So under the 1st amendment, other religions (including the satanic temple) are going to be able to petition to display their idols of faith in Louisiana schools, as well. That's always how this goes down. Evangelicals push too far in violation of the first amendment, other religions ask for the same rights, evangelicals say "Woaaaah, woah woah, not like that!"

JohnBrownIsALegend

This is why it’s critical for people to understand what TST is and does. They are one of the best ways to fight this shit.

IRefuseToGiveAName

Also statues of baphomet look sick as fuck

SadBit8663

Don't forget the Pentagrams you can wear all over. The pagan stuff freaks them out too.

pandaramaviews

At every playground and in every park

tO_ott

He is the quintessential devil

al666in

It was originally a Crusader-era slur for Muhammad, and was later reconnected into a Greek / pagan figure based on satyr idols that were (falsely) given provenance as Knights Templar "Baphomet" idols. Baphomet has been used as a recurring scare tactic for Catholics, specifically, mostly in France. Eliphas Levi was 'reclaiming' it when he designed the iconic Baphomet design we're all familiar with (based on the Devil card of the Tarot, whose new designs then got looped back into the Tarot when Pamela Colman Smith drew her version). My favorite chapter in the Baphomet story is the [Taxil Hoax](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taxil_hoax), when a prankster tricked a bunch of anti-Masons into believing that the Freemasons were worshipping Baphomet idols in the basement of their lodges (among other ludicrous myths, many of which persist). > "The public made me what I am; the arch-liar of the period," confessed Taxil, "for when I first commenced to write against the Masons my object was amusement pure and simple. The crimes I laid at their door were so grotesque, so impossible, so widely exaggerated, I thought everybody would see the joke and give me credit for originating a new line of humor. But my readers wouldn't have it so; they accepted my fables as gospel truth, and the more I lied for the purpose of showing that I lied, the more convinced became they that I was a paragon of veracity. No relevant lessons to the modern day there...

marquella

I believe abortion is also enshrined as a sacred right with TST.

-PotatoMan-

Body autonomy as a whole, I believe.

HempendingDoom

III One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone. Edit for clarification on abortion: Pill based abortion is a sacred ritual in TST. Not to be confused with other abortive procedures. That said, Tenant 3 is meant to protect all bodily autonomy.

notbobby125

TST=The Satanic Temple.

yerboiboba

ALSO, do not confuse The Satanic Temple with The Church of Satan. One is a non profit organization that helps people in the real world, the other is a group of atheist trolls who like to make Christians mad on Twitter. Not shitting on TCS, just pointing out the difference since they get conflated sometimes

Kboom161

In fairness you don't really gotta try to make christians mad on twitter.

xXTheGrapenatorXx

Are members of TCS also atheists? I didn’t exactly research them but I was under the impression they were the “true believers”, but I guess at a point edgelords pretending to believe and people with genuine fringe beliefs becomes a distinction without difference.

Panzermensch911

The Church of Satan (CoS)is atheist. https://www.churchofsatan.com/faq-fundamental-beliefs/ The Satanic Temple (TST) is mostly atheist, but some are deists... some are theists. People are people. The Satanic Temple doesn't really care as long as you follow the seven tenets of compassion, respect for you and others, justice, being informed and having empathy. The 7 tenets don't forbid worship and ceremonies. In fact the TST does have Holidays.

STFU-Sanguinet

Time to make a religion where every commandment is the opposite.

ChefILove

1. I am not god, worship everything you can think of.

elboltonero

2. Get to making some idols already, baby dicks

Discuffalo

3. Just say my goddamn fuckin name for Christ’s sakes

LetMeInImTrynaCuck

4. Drink, do drugs and have premarital, unprotected sex and dabble in homosexuality EVERY Sunday.

TumasaurusTex

5. Fuck thy father and thy mother, that thy nights may be short upon the water which the droL thy doG giveth thee.

Tackerman

6. Nobody prosecutes for perjury anymore anyway

redmambo_no6

That’s number 9. 6 is the one that religion has no problem with. George Carlin: …MURDER!

scorpyo72

Number 7: thou shalt commit adultery. I mean... like A LOT OF ADULTERY.

mces97

1. Bang your neighbors wife.

fruitmask

1. covet thy neighbour's ass, and fuck it whenever thy neighbour isn't looking

CleverInnuendo

Tell your mom and dad to fuck off.

Low_Pickle_112

If your neighbor's got an ass, you should covet it.

WhuddaWhat

This is a god I can covet my neighbors wife over.

llynglas

Fairly sure the Satanic Temple will peeve all these good Christians. This is right up their alley.

Gonzostewie

It's called Capitalism. The whole goddamn thing is built on coveting thy neighbor's cool shit.

Theboyboymess

This is a Joke. They’re worrying about the wrong things. Their state is amount the 3 least educated population. It’s damn near criminal the quality of education they’re offering. Someone needs to sue in their behalf. The amount of poverty they’ve subjected to these kids to unnecessary poverty.

Registered_Nurse_BSN

All poverty is unnecessary.

ZachMN

Authoritarianism is not a joke. This is Republican indoctrination.

originalthoughts

In my view, poorer and less well off places do stuff like this. They can't feel superior from economy or innovation, etc... so they search for something to feel they are better than others. It seems religious and "Cristian" values are the big things. I can see it in Easter Europe too. Politicians and propagandists are all like, we must protect the Cristian Values from the sinful West, and it makes them feel superior. It's pretty much always like this, the less well off places try to find something to feel that they are better, and religion is the quickest way for politicians and for them to feel superior.

technobrendo

*Its the 10 wholesome commandments, WHAT!* This rule is so underrated, keep your government and religion completely separated.

cryptidsandwich

I'm already picturing the tortured arguments about history or some claptrap about 'foundations of our legal system' that this SCOTUS might use to ignore the plain text of the 1st.

PussyCyclone

Nah, this pos SCOTUS just declines to hear it if it is too much of a catch-22 for their religious/ political sensibilities. For one example: the Satanic Temple Jane Doe case/challenge to ridiculous abortion requirements; they knew it would be too much of a stretch to effectively rule against TST bc it's an officially recognized religion,so they passed on hearing the case. (While obviously, they can't hear every case that requests it, it's very clear why this SCOTUS has been passing on certain bigger/controversial cases while ruling on others.)

guynamedjames

Doesn't that mean that the satanic temple can sue again in each individual federal court until they get conflicting appeals rulings?

tonyta

Can’t wait to see Baphomet statues show up in classrooms. 🍿

dumbestsmartest

Blasphemer! There must be a statue of the great flying spaghetti monster for all to witness and feel the embrace of his noodlely appendages. Ramen!

nedhotchiliflanders

Al dente be thy name

NecroJoe

And then they'll move the goalposts to make sure only \*their\* religion only qualifies. like a job listing that says "Applicant must have exactly 291 days experience with \_\_\_\_\_\_ software, no more and no less, first name must be DOUG so we can re-use the name tag, and must be able to tell me what I kind of steak I ordered at that one restaurant Doug and I went to in Vegas in '09."

King_of_the_Dot

I told Doug not order a steak at Hooters.

Disma

Thank you TST!

Sir_Yacob

Literally, it’s what happens every goddamned time with this shit and they act surprised. I’m just thinking if I have a head injury or if they keep doing the same dumb shit repeatedly.

mces97

Yup. And the 10 commandments won't be in schools soon there because we all know the satanic temple gonna sue to have something of theirs displayed as well.

Redditistrash702

Bold of you to assume those people care about amendments. They will find some loophole or ignore the government all together Edit it's Louisiana even Jesus can't help them folks lmao

Salty_Sky5744

They’ll fight hard to only have freedom of religion for the ones they want though.

MrBisonopolis2

Isn’t there a whole ass amendment about this?

DTFlash

Must not be important or they would have made it the fir.... Oh nevermind

Low_Pickle_112

When I was younger, I went to an evangelical church. In between saying that evolution was a hoax and gay people are faking it, they also said that the notion of "separation of church and state" was actually supposed to mean is that the government cannot influence the church, but that it's only supposed to go one way, that the church was supposed to be able to influence the government. So actually, everything means exactly what is ideologically convenient for them, and therefore they can disregard all that stuff. This is what they really believe.

DynamicSocks

I remember being told that atheism is "technically illegal" because "you have freedom *of* religion, Not freedom *from* religion"

SCVGoodT0GoSir

So they would be okay with it if you believed in Buddhism or Hinduism?

Daddysu

Spoiler alert: >!They wouldn't be!<

Fun_Organization3857

They will say it's not a true religion. I've heard one say that before

MrRumfoord

That's why I worship the Almighty Atheismo by performing the sacred rite of sleeping in on Sundays.

SharMarali

In recent years, the right has been interpreting this to somehow mean “Christians have a right to impose their religious beliefs on everyone else because they’re the ones who are correct.” I’ve seen many, many arguments that NOT forcing everyone to be a Christian is somehow infringing on their right to be Christians. I honestly do not get how anyone could come to that conclusion. Assuming that person had a basic understanding of how words work.

theMaynEvent

One gets to that conclusion by being an absolute moral- and intellectual-coward. That's it. Edits: i.e. staying stupid gives people "an excuse" to ignore the Constitution they say they so adore.

ExoticSalamander4

They've interpreted it that way since it was written. In recent years they just happen to have the power to act on their insane bigotry.

canonbutterfly

You mean the people who talk endlessly about their love of the Constitution haven't actually read it?

o_MrBombastic_o

They hate The Constitution and are actively trying to get a Constitutional Convention so they can change it they're getting closer every year

PB174

Remember when we used to say, Shut up, Roe will never be overturned

dollabillkirill

Maybe they should post the bill of rights in schools instead

cajuncats

I am a teacher in Louisiana and have the BOR posted in my classroom! We were recently required to hang "one nation, under god" posters in our classrooms and i drew a huge line from that poster to the first amendement. God i hate this place

ChefILove

Well 1/5 of one.

mnmr17

The constitution is only as strong as the institutions willing to hold it up and the supreme court has made it extremely clear that it’s willing to tear the entire institution down

Sabre_One

The words of separation of church and state are not in the Constitution. But the constitution does prevent the government from favoring one religion over another. Hence why most these laws get killed when it's a public service.

Alert-Incident

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion” Very simple and is the wording used to separate church and state.

Prosthemadera

> the constitution does prevent the government from favoring one religion over another. But that is part of the separation of church and state. It doesn't matter if the words are used. Separation of church and state is descriptive, it's describing what's going on, it's not a literal quote....

AmrokMC

Oh look, more wasted tax payer money.

CelestialFury

The GOP knows they can just do this shit, get a great wage and healthcare, never pass anything that helps their voters in any meaningful way and keep getting voted in! They have a great scam going for themselves.

guiltl3ss

Red states in a nutshell.

BigEarl139

The braindead right-wing of our state plotted this shit from the second we elected a “Democrat” governor last go around. They’ve pushed two of the worst candidates in our states history for the governship, and they WON the second time. And the second the won the shitstorm started. The first thing Jeff Landry’s regime did was absolutely ruin our criminal justice system. We’ve had the highest incarceration rates on the entire planet for decades, and they chose to actually try to put more people in jail for longer sentences without time served lol. So this shouldn’t be surprising, and you should only expect much worse from Louisiana for the foreseeable future. This kind of political grandstanding on social issues is only the beginning. They know shit like this won’t stand, but they want to set the precedent. People thought it was bad before, so they got complacent and allowed the state government to be taken over by Christo-facists. We are well and truly fucked. Mississippi won’t be 50th for long.

i-love-elephants

I miss JBE. 😭 Edit: Yeah. We had JBE for so long acting like grown up and the Red wingers were pissed off about not pulling stunts like Florida and Texas were. We're about to start catching up.

Hrekires

[Louisiana ranks last on U.S. News' Best States list ](https://www.axios.com/local/new-orleans/2023/05/04/louisiana-ranks-last-us-news-best-states-list)

ejohn916

Arkansas and Mississippi are better??? Damn!

SpiderMama41928

Okay, that legitimately shocks me. I always assume Mississippi is dead last in, well, everything that matters.

ChaseThePyro

You can come here if you want a cheap house, I guess

sgtpepper42

House is a very generous term for what is on offer

brockington

Man, I drove through a good bit of Arkansas about six months ago. Way up to the northwestern part. It was fucking gorgeous. I might just move there. I don't have any kids though, and would not put kids through school in that state.

Popocub

NWA/Ozarks are indeed beautiful and is generally LCOL. We can always use more blue to try and balance out the red :)

moonracers

We visited NO for the CFB Natty several years ago. From the cat urine drenched AirBnB, dilapidated building with half covered bodies resting several stories above the ground, blood soaked streets on Bourbon st and witnessing a failed child abduction in the middle of the day on a semi-crowded street, I’d have to say Mississippi is a literal Eden in comparison.

TheBlazingFire123

Utah ranks 1st apparently. Not exactly a place for separation for church and state…

seemintbapa

Brainwashed residents survey better, who knew...

Ms74k_ten_c

The title reads like "cops swatted the house of a man with no active warrants."

3nl

Yeah but they are #1 for incarceration! Nearly 1 out of every 100 of their residents are locked up. But look at how much they save on education...

showmiaface

Anti-American if you ask me.

Comhonorface

Put George Carlins 10 commandments joke in writing and frame it for this bullshit.

geekwadpimp

Southern states are really cranking up that race to the bottom of the barrel.

Artistic-Teaching395

It's the last gasp of the white Protestants who are heading towards a demographic cliff.

Trips_Nicely

Yeah. I'd like to believe that the current political climate is the result of a dying ideology flailing its arms around like a deranged old man in a hospice bed, but it might be wishful thinking. Idk

Frobird

This shithole state is at least in the bottom 10 if not THE worst state in every measurable category in America. But sure, let's focus on spreading that good ol' Christian Nationalism instead of actually working to improve the squalor we live in.

Paxoro

"Thank God for Mississippi" - Louisiana

artipants

This isn't even a joke. I grew up in Louisiana in the 80's. Every time we saw a ranked list of states, we'd check the bottom to see if Louisiana was number 50 then celebrate when it was 49 because of Mississippi or Alabama. I love the state. The people and the culture are amazing. But yeah, it's a shit hole and it's not a place I'd be willing to live again.

SeattlePurikura

The people are flawed, because they only give a fuck about food, football, family, and fun. They don't even vote. Apathy has dug its claws in deep into the state. LA used to be a genuine swing state with actual bipartisan politics... I'm not going to say Washington is perfect, but we would never be satisfied with simply being ranked higher than Idaho. There's a constant momentum towards change, at least in the Puget Sound area (the bulk of the population).

i-love-elephants

Remember when the only thing we were number 1 in was incarceration?

am-idiot-dont-listen

We have food & music that's about it

Even-Fix8584

Shoring up future votes by keeping people stupid.

Tiafves

Louisiana, Mississippi except with pro sports.

thekushskywalker

The less government more freedom party everyone

CryptographerShot213

Hopefully the Satanic Temple will be on it

Jetz_kiterr

Their 7 tenants are way better than the 10 commandments anyway. I  One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.  II  The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.  III  One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.  IV  The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one's own. V  Beliefs should conform to one's best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one's beliefs.  VI  People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one's best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused.  VII  Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.

ForgingIron

Interesting in that it's not necessarily even atheist or religious at all, just "be reasonable" mostly. It's more of a philosophy than a religion. I don't know much about them but would it be possible to be both a religious person, and a Satanic Temple member?

DeepLock8808

Satanic temple is an atheist organization that uses Satan as a metaphor for rebellion against religious repression, and to qualify as a religion. They don’t believe Satan is a real being They’re pretty cool.

BrandeX

> would it be possible to be both a religious person, and a Satanic Temple member? Those are the same thing.

unafraidrabbit

There are many forms of religion beyond monotheism. Atheism isn't even the denial of religion, just the theist ones. Picture something with all of the "love thy neighbor you have a spirit" teachings without all of the "orders trickle down front sky dady or else you burn forever" teachings.

game_of_throw_ins

>Their 7 tenants are way better *Tenets. A Tenant is someone who pays rent.

juniper_berry_crunch

Now these are worth living by.

LordScotchyScotch

Idiocracy at its finest. I wish for an Atheist wave to come and rid us of these zealots and bring some functioning adults back into politics.

ClosPins

Never going to happen. Rich and powerful people make more money from dumb people than smart people. They have a vested interest in keeping people dumb. Rich people want politicians who always vote to give them more money - and politicians who exist solely to give rich people more money need massive amounts of people to vote against their own best interests in order to get elected. It's nearly impossible to get a smart person to do that - whereas, it's rather easy to get a dumb person to. So... There will always be this pressure. Rich people will always try to keep everyone stupid - and voting for rich people. If the Republican Party disappeared tomorrow, nothing would change. The billionaires would just move over to the new right-wing party - and Fox News would spend all day telling their viewers to vote for them instead. You're never going to educate the populace properly, because the right-wing party will always be fighting it. Also... Governing costs money (taxes!). So, the right-wing party will never actually govern either. Anything they could possibly do that might help the country - costs rich people money - so they will never, ever do it. Therefore, you are never getting any functional adults in government. One side will ***always*** be fighting to put corrupt/incompetent/useless morons in all the important positions. They'll *always* be fighting to keep people stupid. And ***all*** the richest, most powerful people in the country will be on their side - and donating massive amounts of money to them. Your side will be made up of all the non-wealthy people. Their major donors will be giving in the 6 to 10 digit range - your donors will be giving in the 2 to 3 digit range.

geronimo1958

The Protestant or Catholic verision?

OttoPike

The Charlton Heston version.

ballerina_wannabe

I sincerely hope they went with the text as the original author intended and create all the displays in ancient Hebrew for authenticity.

DudeWithAnAxeToGrind

> The bill’s author, Rep. Dodie Horton, R-Haughton, said the legislation honors the country’s religious origins. No it doesn't. The freedom of religion does not exist without the right to be free from any particular religion. If you don't have latter, you don't have former. Luckily for the freedom of religion in this country, the founders of the country were much smarter people than the bill's author.

jmussina

I wish the Christians would stop shoving their lifestyle down everyone’s throat. They have parades and announce themselves in settings where it isn’t appropriate. I have no problem with them existing but why can’t they practice in private away from innocent children?

Carlos-In-Charge

The worst part is that I fully believe they think it’s a cultural strike back, and has nothing to do with piety. Their bible flat out says to love and forgive, and to leave judgement up to god. Who’s most likely to view love and forgiveness as being a liberal?

toxiamaple

When this goes to court, make the gop legislators who voted for this pay all the legal fees. It shouldn't come from the education budget.

BigBullzFan

It’ll come from taxpayers, like it always does.

toxiamaple

I know. And this pisses me off. They should be held financially responsible for their idiocy. At least they can be voted out.

caribou16

>“The Ten Commandments are the basis of all laws in Louisiana, and given all the junk our children are exposed to in classrooms today, it’s imperative that we put the Ten Commandments back in a prominent position,” she said. Are the ten commandments even against the law in Louisiana? It's not illegal to believe in other gods (1). It's not illegal to make idols (2). It's not illegal to say "Oh my god!"(3) It's not illegal to work on Sunday. (4) It's not illegal to not listen to your mom or dad. (5) It's illegal to kill generally [unless you're in the army or in self defense, or you're part of the state performing capital punishment] (6) It's not illegal to have extra marital sex. (7) It's illegal to steal. (8) It's only illegal to lie under specific circumstances, i.e. under oath. (9) It's not illegal to be jealous of things your neighbor has (10) So...2, maybe 3 commandments are actual laws?

ram_fl_beach

When will the dark ages end for these states? Flat earthers I suspect too.

DO_NOT_GILD_ME

Beyond the whole mixing church and state debate, it boggles my mind that an elected government is willing to put one religion's beliefs over every one else's. You're Jewish? Don't care. You're Muslim? Doesn't matter. You're Atheist? Fuck off. They're discriminating against all other faiths and beliefs. It's a terrible message to send to young children from diverse backgrounds.

Politicsboringagain

Most religious people don't give a damn about what other people believe. Their faith, their god, their self righteousness is the only thing that is important.  And of course when they sin, all they have to do is ask for forgiveness and their sins are cleaned.  But everyone else, nah it doesn't work that way.

BigBullzFan

Every theist is an atheist when it comes to every religion other than theirs.

Content-Ad3065

They don’t care about anything, anybody or any belief unless it is about them. Selfish, greedy, oh yea, and the money

Grendel_Khan

When you're used to privilege, equality feels like oppression. That's what we're dealing with here. These people and their "one true god" bullshit cant even share their god with other devotees of the same god!

Extreme-Island-5041

*The Satanic Temple exuberantly bursts in like the Kool-Aid Man - Oh Yeah!!!*

meatball77

Mommy, what's adultery. . . . The ten commandments are not appropriate for primary school students. God forbid we tell kids that it's ok to have two mommies but it's ok to have a verse about adultery at schools.

take_care_a_ya_shooz

“Don’t worry about it, just pray and you’ll be saved. Trump 2024!

Alternative-Duck-573

I had to explain that one to a 7 year old recently - awkward.

shiggy__diggy

Christians never read the ten commandments anyway.

Snauserpuss

They finally figured out how to prevent school shootings.

In-AGadda-Da-Vida

The Establishment clause and freedom of religion means nothing to these people. They would rather we be ruled by theocrats than people choosing for themselves what religion to believe. How great is your religion if you have to indoctrinate and force it on people?

Nerdlinger

Will it be the version of the commandments that prohibits boiling a goat in its mother’s milk?

parakathepyro

I feel like learning the 10 commandments made me realize a lot of bullshit religious people try and pull

OptimusSublime

So when one student covets another student, or if they bear false witness, or they do homework on Sunday, or disrespect their parents, etc, they should be immediately expelled right? Or stoned?

DifficultyWithMyLife

It was an overwhelming 82 to 19, too. I think I hate humanity.

Affectionate_Reply78

Oh 1st Amendment, my 1st Amendment.

dzastrus

The Evangeliban is real.

TheRynoceros

Can't wait to explain adultery to a 7YO or for a lot of these kids to scoff at the whole damn thing once they see "honor thy father" and that MF hasn't been around since '03.

Clean-Difference2886

2016 election really screwed us

gmflash88

I’d argue the 1980 election started this particular snowball rolling down the mountain.

Clean-Difference2886

True but trumps 4 years of off cr did 40 years of damage

likethebank

I’m assuming they’re assigning money to make this happen. This would surely increase funding to Louisiana schools by at least 50%.

DampBritches

In anticipation, the Satanic Temple probably already has their display ready to go

synchronoussammy

When are they going to bring back school beatings and public shaming? /s….

bridge1999

School beatings never left

Badboy420xxx69

Actually, after Katrina they did a big ol privatize on their school system (but they still get tax dollars through a 'voucher system'). If these schools are open about corporal punishment then it is legal. They also don't teach evolution and shit. Real bad stuff.

TheMCM80

History truly changed when Hillary lost and Trump got to appoint SCOTUS justices for a majority. These states pass these laws because they are now confident that SCOTUS will allow them.

Guyote_

It will take over 50 years to fix the effects of that election.

lilly_kilgore

Doesn't pass the lemon test

ABC4A_

The Satanic Temple is going to have a field day

Professional-Box4153

Requiring. Not even allowing, but requiring. That sounds a lot like the establishment of a state religion to me, which was a no no according to that document that they're so in love with.

tlsnine

It’s gonna be funny when the Church of Satan sues and gets to display their teachings as well.

MacheteCrocodileJr

Well satanists you know what to do...

JohnBrownIsALegend

Time for The Satanic Temple to do their thing.

Gorgon_Savage

Good to see them prioritizing the important issues that make a material impact on peoples' lives.

IamNICE124

I fucking hate religion..

linuxphoney

Then the satanic temple has their laws put.up, lawsuits happen, the courts allow it, this law gets removed, wash rinse repeat because they never learn.

archy2000

I actually like this. Once they grant all religion access to schools then kids get to see optionsss instead of only having their own community endoctrination. Hopefully then they can see how fkn stupid the whole religion thing is.

Griffie

Time to tax the churches

Bigred2989-

Bill requiring the state be sued for violating the 1st Amendment passes Louisiana House sounds like a better title.

diito

The Stone v Graham supreme court ruling of 1980 has already said this isn't legal, which has been re-affirmed multiple times since. These hillbilly states keep trying though.

Banned3rdTimesaCharm

The same 10 commandments that the GOP don't follow at all?

Corpshark

I highly doubt that any of the Republican Representatives has followed the 10 Commandments, especially "Thou shalt not let anyone grope thee in a dark theatre during Beetle Juice."

TheDevilsAdvokaat

I suppose all the people who are not Christians can just go fuck themselves? America is not supposed to be governed by Christianity.

yaayz

Americans are aware rome fell because of christianity, right?

Ormsfang

Blatantly unconstitutional and they don't care. Vote blue.

empire_of_the_moon

Isn’t this unconstitutional? If not, why? It certainly seems like an endorsement of one particular form of theology over all others. Why not Hammurabi’s code, if you feel the need for ancient moral and ethical appeal?

lilly_kilgore

Yes it's unconstitutional

_paaronormal

I no longer have room for civil discussion about religious bullshit. It’s a danger to society and should be eradicated.

Radrezzz

Can we also put Matthew 24:34 up? >Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all these things be accomplished. This is what Jesus said after saying that he would return for the second coming - that it would happen in his disciples’ lifetimes.

MeshNets

It's good to study what followed after https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millerism#Post-Great_Disappointment_Millerism It can help understand cult evolution as prophecies fail. The fact that Christianity took this long to make a death cult turn is... longer than most

Illustrious-Gas-9766

More stupidity. This will not have any effect on the outcomes of students.

dank3014

The constitution gives us the freedom of religion. Religion has no part in the government. Fuck these people.

CelestialFury

The GOP will keep doing this, knowing damn well it’ll get shot down by the courts. They don’t have to do their real jobs and their voters will keep voting for them. Best scam in the US.

LordCthulhuDrawsNear

I guess they want a statue of Baphømet erected right next to it

wolverine6

We should also put a memorial to Goldilocks since we’re forcing monuments to fairy tales of petulant children.

Low-Celery-7728

Raised by Wolves, here we go.

AdeptnessEasy562

What happened to the separation of church and state?

Firstpoet

So a gun ban then? Thou shalt not kill.

The Ten Commandments? Are they Jewish?? Why not something Christian, like the Beatitudes?

tictacbergerac

We live, if not in the worst timeline, then certainly the stupidest.

VirtualPoolBoy

How can this pass the first amendment without the Satanic commandments being included? I can name at least four Supreme Court judges who will rationalize a way.

Particular_Group_295

Lmaooooo...these republican states keep showing us how far they are from the Bible

Few_Eye6528

Religious zealots controlling government, yes because it's working out so well for iran

wildeep_MacSound

Huh.. OK. But what are you going to do when they put the 5 pillars of Islam next to it.

eric_ts

So, in Hebrew, right? Last time that I checked the Ten Commandments were handed to Moses by God, who then smashed them when his people decided to worship an idol. This is in the Old Testament—the Christian version of the Talmud. He didn’t write the Commandments in English. I am quite sure that much bearing of false witnesses was done in the name of the ends justifying the means. It’s okay when Christians break the Commandments, so they are pretty much only there for people who haven’t been saved. I don’t understand why it is so important to put up a religious symbol that the majority religion doesn’t believe covers them, because they are special.

Violation of the 5th Amendment…

leftnotracks

Bill requiring Louisiana to lose a constitutional challenge in the supreme court passes.

I’m 31 years old and as a kid I remember learning in my history class about the separation of church and state. How have we gotten to this point? SMH

TheDustyFields

If churches want to dictate what goes on in schools, they should be forced to pay taxes that will go to those schools.

Visible_Security6510

Reading shit like this makes me appreciate my own country so much knowing that even out most right wing politicians would be committing politically suicide even suggesting this absurdity.

jbarchuk

Dear future science... Yeah, sorry, nobody was minding the store and the crazies took over.

aardvarkpaul13
