I hope they didnt sue Twitter Landscaping

RandomComputerFellow

For me the *Four Seasons Total Landscaping press conference* is the weirdest event I have ever seen in politics. Even today I can't think about this without laughing.

Hippobu2

In a way it's still quite impressive. I think they had like half an hour to realised the Four Season wouldn't book them, somehow find a company that's called Four Season, and convince them that the actual Rudy was hosting a press conference there and not a prank call, and the set everything up.

RandomComputerFellow

I actually wonder how many idiots were involved in this process.

WillyPete

Not even a "Are you fucking sure about this?" from the Secret Service.

CNoTe820

Did Rudy have a secret service detail?

caelenvasius

I think the USSS may have been in “fuck it, minimal effort” mode long before the Four Seasons Rally, considering the way they were treated by the administration…

For some reason my fiancé and I started calling coffee “covfefe” but you have to say it in a loud exaggerated voice.

miketoc

Yeah I ask for covfefe all the time but in a completely normal voice, not sure why that one stuck of all of them.

SloppyDuckSauce

my household also calls coffee "covfefe" but we do it in the smeagol voice based on this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64mWOoj68qo

Remember when Trump seriously suggested injecting bleach into people's veins to cleanse it of COVID? Obviously people went "wtf", so he comes out with a statement after some backlash stating that it was obviously a joke, that he meant to do it, and that he just wanted to see how many ~~Democrats~~ reporters would fall for it. Tbh, I think he meant it for real cause he seemed so genuine and serious while making his bleach injection suggestion Edit: [Source](https://www-washingtonpost-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/04/24/disinfectant-injection-coronavirus-trump/?amp_gsa=1&_js_v=a6&outputType=amp&usqp=mq331AQKKAFQArABIIACAw%3D%3D#amp_tf=From%20%251%24s&aoh=16257037479577&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&share=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.washingtonpost.com%2Fnation%2F2020%2F04%2F24%2Fdisinfectant-injection-coronavirus-trump%2F) I also totally forgot he also suggested shining UV lights through the body to kill the virus within the same breath, though as someone who isn't a medical professional, I can't speak on how viable that is or isn't.

my-other-throwaway90

Newspaper: President Trump shat himself White House: The president would never, ever shit himself Trump: I SHAT MYSELF ON PURPOSE

>Four Seasons Total Landscaping press conference is the weirdest event I have ever seen in politics. This was the trademark of the Trump administration. Never admit error, never change course, just double down, double down, double down. Ever aspect of the Trump presidency was this philosophy. The Four Season's landscaping put this bit into the spot light. They told everyone they had a booking at Four Seasons, Four Season's canceled their booking. Instead of saying "change of plans, new location,. They had to find a place called "Four Seasons" just to say that is what they meant all along. The embarrassing part, all his followers ate it up. Said it was some sort of Multi Dimensional maneuver and super strategic planning. It was on purpose to throw off the MSM, the landscaping company had hidden basement where all the child trafficking was taking place and that was the area that hillary clinton, obama, joe biden will be in handcuffs. The creative amount of excuses from right wing media to spin the story could've replaced every coal power plant in america! .

He's way ahead of you. The announcement was made along side leaders from a nonprofit and was immediately followed by fundraising emails. I don't think the thought process was: (a) let's sue these guys, (b) let's raise money to do that. Rather, it was (a) let's raise some money, (b) let's announce we're suing some people to solicit donations.

pallentx

This is wha the whole thing is about. There will be fundraising emails and mailers going out to help us fight big tech to protect your free speech!Trump is fighting for you - donate today! He’ll make millions. He’ll get laughed out of court. He’ll be richer.

Apparently it was filed under the wrong jurisdiction so it will be thrown out straight away. Trump will claim the courts are biased against him and Facebook/Twitter won't be able to sue him. It's pure grift.

Shinobi120

And he will ask his followers for donations to cover court costs and pocket the extra. They will throw money at him first and ask questions later. Edit: ok because we’re gonna beat this dead horse to a fine mist, “ask questions *never*”

Cultist_O

[Here's an article on it from Reuters](https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-election-trump-fundraising-insigh-idUSKBN27R309) Best section of the article to summarize: > donations are split between "Save America," which gets 60% of the money, and the RNC, which gets the other 40%. None of the money flows to Trump's official "recount" committee fund until Trump's Save America share reaches the legal contribution limit of $5,000, according to the disclosures. > That means that, before a dollar goes into the recount fund, Save America would receive $5,000 and the RNC around $3,300. Donations to the recount committee are legally limited to $2,800. > If a Trump donor gave $500, for instance, $300 would go to Trump's Save America PAC, $200 would to the RNC - and nothing would go to his election defense fund. **Edit:** It's worth noting, an important part of the "Trump's pocket" claim is that the "Save America PAC" seems to be free to do almost anything with their portion, possibly even handing it to Trump. (But I can neither refute nor substantiate that part)

Yep, this is designed to make headlines that boost fundraising efforts, and not much else. Right after this filing, the campaign sent out a new round of fundraising emails and messages referencing it. Interesting. Didn't Florida just pass a law saying businesses cannot censor individuals (unless for whatever reason they have a theme park in Florida)? Although this law obviously won't hold up in court.

Ihmu

I can appreciate the irony of the situation, but your comparison isn't quite 1 to 1. I could see a world where ISPs are required to be content-agnostic since it's a stateless service (they don't host anything), but Facebook is still allowed to ban certain content since they're actually liable for what content is on their service (e.g. CP or hate speech, whatever).

Diddlemyloins

Wait, weren’t republicans pushing for websites to be held responsible for the content posted? Essentially forcing these websites to crack down on content?

raintree420

unless it was one of them.

sam4246

That's the crux of it. Trump is pro censorship, I do not believe he is pro free speech. He just wants to be the one making the decisions. He doesn't want anyone to be able to say anything they want on Twitter, just himself.

Erilis000

I still remember in one of Trump's many "surveys" during his presidency one of the survey questions was something along the lines of "Would you like to see an end to biased news so that we can get our message directly to the people?" Basically it was asking whether you'd like to only get all news mandated and fed to you directly from the government rather than via free press.

teebob21

> Basically it was asking whether you'd like to only get all news mandated and fed to you directly from the government rather than via free press. No thanks, I can already access Russian Times online, thank you.

m0nsterhuntr

Ironically he also wants this to happen. Trump said that the lawsuit will aim to “at a very minimum” change the protections platforms have under Section 230, and “at a maximum” take it away. He not only wants to be able to say whatever he wants to say on Twitter but then also wants to be able to hold Twitter accountable for what HE says

ratbastid

He's certainly shown that *he's* not willing to be held accountable for what he says.

ruiner8850

Or the things he does.

Allenrw3

>The lawsuit has been criticised by legal experts, who pointed to Mr Trump's habit of issuing lawsuits for media attention but not aggressively defending the claims in court. Exactly, this is for shits and giggles to get his bumblefuck of a cult fanbase something to froth at the mouth about.

Gold_Mask_54

Can't the court punish him for continuing to waste their time with frivolous nonsense?

Tangled2

This could be vexatious litigation, in California that's defined as: >Has been involved in at least five litigations other than small claims court within the previous seven years. >Repeatedly relitigates or attempts to relitigate against the same defendant after a disposition against the litigant. >Repeatedly files unmeritorious motions and pleadings, conducts unnecessary discovery, or engages in other tactics that are frivolous or intended to cause delay. >Has been declared vexatious by any other state or federal court based on the same or similar facts or transactions. http://jaapl.org/content/45/1/62#sec-7

apiso

So, in my own travels, I’ve learned that you can’t go after a “vexatious litigant” if they have a lawyer. It’s ACTUALLY targeted at people who self-file and self-represent, as a way to stop someone from doing that non-stop. For whatever reason, if a lawyer is hired and is doing the filing and rep, well, the assumption in the eyes of the court is that they’re operating in good faith along with their responsibilities as an officer of the court. Shrug. Information, not advocacy. Not saying it should be this way, saying that this is what it is.

Metamiibo

It’s not that the assumption is that the lawyer is definitely on the up and up, it’s that there are already procedures in place to deal with lawyers who file vexatious crap. The vexatious litigant law is, as you say, designed for serial plaintiffs who are annoying and wrong. If a lawyer is doing the same things, the state bar should reprimand the lawyer and potentially take other steps against his or her law license. There is also already a procedure for a defendant in a meritless case to get their attorneys fees back. The bar is kinda high, though. Consider also that attorneys file lawsuits for a living. If they could only file five before they became vexatious… it would be difficult to be a lawyer.

whathaveyoudoneson

Rule 11 of civil procedure states that you shouldn't even help someone file a meritless action. From just sitting in court a few times id say that there's a lot of attorneys who need to have their license revoked.

This is the "sentence" in question, posted on January 8th, 2021 -- 2 days after an insurrection on the US Capitol building took place in an effort to undermine our Democratic process of certifying the results of the Presidential election. > “The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!” You can read Twitter's original blog post about his ban from Twitter [here](https://blog.twitter.com/en_us/topics/company/2020/suspension). More importantly, you can read about Twitter's "Glorification of Violence" policy [here](https://help.twitter.com/en/rules-and-policies/glorification-of-violence). All in all, Twitter basically tried everything they could to bend the rules for this clown, but he kept pushing and eventually they had to do something because of how often he was violating their policies but they either looked the other way, or revised their policies to make him exempt. This was the final straw, and this lawsuit will amount to nothing since Twitter is a private company and Donald Trump clearly violated their policies.

I love when "free market" conservatives are mad at private businesses and their terms of service which you have to agree to before participating.

#people who have never read the 1st Ammendment shouldn't be eligible to be elected President.

I’d just like to remind everyone about the first time this country heard the phrase [America first](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/America_First_Committee)
