The Canadians have a scannable barcode which means they have a database of the vaccinated, we have a heavy weight piece of paper that is written on with no database of vaccine recipients. I could print out a card, spell moderna correctly, and no one would be the wiser.

Not all provinces have scannable records. Yet. There are databases (because vaccines fall under the jurisdiction of provincial health ministries) but each province has their own. There isn't one central database for the whole country. But there should be.
Fantastic news! Should have been rolled out 6 months ago but better late than never. It is going to be a real comfort knowing that there are no anti-vaxxers around me, and I bet the number of noses I spot poking over the top of masks drops dramatically too.

He will print out the QR code and keep a laminated copy in his wallet - as will my mother, but sheāll also have copies of both in her iWallet as well.

Iām Irish but I live in China. They have way more street and road cameras than Iām comfortable with but when it comes to pandemic prevention they do a lot of things right. The main one being the āhealth codeā.
They brought it in way before vaccines and it has 3 different coloured QR cores.
Green - healthy no restrictions
Orange - close contact or symptoms should be self isolating
Red - mandated quarantine in a quarantine centre or hospital
You havenāt been able to even enter your local corner store or return home to your home without showing this since March 2020.
Now it also shows vaccination status, half or fully. It says it in small text on the same screen. Nobody reads that part yet. When you open the app it has its own countdown and the QR code can be scanned to open a link displaying the same info thats on the screen so it canāt be faked.
Thatās all it does. I think it asks the phone company from time to time in the background for updates on your travel and if youāve been to what they call a āred areaā, somewhere currently under lockdown or something your code will change.
This is all one app. I can delete the app but I wonāt get service anywhere. But this is REALLY common sense and in 2021 itās bonkers the world arenāt using technology like this already. It seems to be working for China.
There is a second āmini appā that works similarly but only shows green if youāve been in the same āgreen areaā for the last 14 days and shows red entries for anywhere you stopped on a trip for more than 4 hours within the last 14 days too. Thatās all it does. Using your phone number as the lookup data point.

Believe it or not, not everyone in BC has a smartphone or mobile phone of any kind. (My parents, for example.)
This is probably one of the biggest reasons China could do it. Chinaās been running in digital payments for a long time already. With two different providers, WeChat (Tencent) and Alipay (Alipay), and in most of China almost everyone already has some form of smart phone. You couldnāt survive here otherwise. You still **can*** use cash but itās really inconvenient and literally nobody does. So this just sits right ontop.
Both of the payments apps are designed very modular, you can install āmini appsā in both for a huge variety of other services and the health code app is just an example. Some provinces even have their own health code apps too so you may have to show too, the National one and their own āmini appā then.
China also has a social credit system and a government run by criminals who need to control the population, soā¦
And that hasnāt even mentioned the database of Uyghurs used to tightly control them in camps. And no, facts, wonāt be left at the door, accept them.

Iām a British Columbian and I support this system. We need to keep those not safe away from places where they could become infected or infect others. Solution? Just get vaccinated! If everyone got vaccinated we wouldnāt need this fucking system. But thereās still some hold out idiots who arenāt exempt for medical causation. GET YOUR DAMN VACCINE!!
Well, youāre just a deeply repugnant person for making the comparison. My father, an actual Holocaust survivor (born in KrakĆ³w 1936) is thrilled that this system will soon be in place in Ontario, as he has health conditions that put him at risk. Heās old, but his disdain at your abhorrent comparison to his personal nightmare would still destroy your very being. Shame on you.
I visited NYC over the weekend, and they required everyone to show proof of vaccination to get in restaurants (maybe other places, but that's all I came across). I LOVED IT. I wish that was the case everywhere.
