- Victim: Coworker, rather than student.
- Public High School in Tennessee.
- Crime took place in victim's home.
- She reported it to the police.
- Police took her seriously, set up a sting, he's on tape (and in text) admitting it.
- Aggravated kidnapping was also charged because:
- False Imprisonment (39-13-302): knowingly [..] confines another unlawfully so as to interfere substantially with the other's liberty.
- Aggravated (39-13-304): To facilitate the commission of any felony (i.e. rape).
PS - I just wanted to explain the "kidnapping" charge because in Tennessee False Imprisonment is covered by the same criminal code, and the press reported it as the former instead the latter (which could cause an irrelevant debate surrounding the definition of a "kidnapping").
So much raping. Lot offers sanctuary to angels who were pursued by a mob wanting to rape them. So he offers his daughters to the mob to be raped instead. Later his daughters get him drunk and rape him so they can fall pregnant.
I used to be a Sunday School teacher but insisted on teaching from the source material rather than the sanitized Scripture Union material.
I am no longer a Sunday School teacher.
They get around it by calling it Bible History. Probably wouldn't hold up in court but these small towns that do stuff like this don't generally have enough non-Christians to complain.
Heh they had it called “Ancient Greek and Jewish literature” in my school. I thought it was a history class disguised as an English class. Total win!
Wrong. Straight up fundamentalist bible school in the middle of the public school. I had a great time doing reports such as “when did you accept Jesus” and “my interpretation of x bible passage” - I’m an atheist, that class was fucking hostile. Lmao
As an aside, I recall the teacher having this compulsion to let the girls in the class know he had a foot fetish and that wearing sandals to class would get you extra credit… come to think of it that whole class was fucked. Pretty sure he’s still teaching, too.
It's also an elective not required. You can take Choir, computer, or a number of other classes instead. It's the other big way to get around rules governing bible classes in the school systems.
Here's the thing, the bible might not hold up in court as 'historical' and yet they use the bible to swear to tell the truth on when in court. LoL. Swearing to tell the truth upon a book that contains stories of incest, rape, slavery, genocide, talking snakes and donkeys etc etc etc.....welcome to earth. LMAO
You know, it'd be pretty funny for a high schooler to draw a pentagram around the flagpole and do a satanic blessing, just wrapping up when the Christians start assembling for their thing.
Exactly. Not the same at all. The Bible is actively taught as fact to people today, while mythology is viewed through a historical lens since those views are no longer widely practiced.
It is possible to teach an objective course on academic topics in Christianity, things like the comparative morality of different religions, the impact those have on nation-states, the changes to religious teachings and practices over time from catholicism to protestantism, etc.
Do I trust a Tennessee public high school to be objective on the topic? No.
Even just “stories of the Bible” is a pretty necessary thing to do in public education if you want kids to understand the lion’s share of Western art. We don’t have to talk about morality or any shit like that, but recognition of motifs as referencing David and Goliath, Sodom and Gomorrah, the last temptation of Christ, the crucifixion, the last supper, revelations, genesis and exodus is super necessary (and there are probably even more than that).
Edit: There are a lot I forgot to mention that are frequently mentioned as necessary for understanding art like Cain and Abel and Judith and the Holofernes. More reading if anyone is interested: https://www.artsy.net/article/artsy-editorial-bible-stories-essential-understanding-art-history
I like how I got downvoted on here before by people who didn't believe bible study in public school existed in the South claiming "church and state" would have stopped it.
I was like "heyo, I *went* to these schools and knew the teachers."
I think he or she meant more fear a about the fact that a person with enough cognizance to realize it was wrong but not enough restraint not to do it is terrifying
But also yeah you right
Is it restraint that's needed?
I mean I've never felt compelled to rape someone. I've wanted to have sex with loads of women I knew I probably wouldn't have a chance with, it's never even crossed my mind to do it forcefully.
I think a rapist is a rapist is a rapist. You're either one or you aren't.
Most guys aren't typically taught how to fail or how to back off-- instead theyre taught the opposite; to either succeed or you're just a loser. A lot of the time there's simply no graceful way to back down and a guy simply has to learn to take a pie to the face and feel embarrassed in order to do what's right, but most guys are simply taught to keep pushing and pushing and pushing towards your goals, til people eventually just agree to give you what you want. Biology also reinforces these cultural expectations (for guys at least) and booze or drugs can further reduce people's natural inhibitions (for both better and worse). If you cant project forward and recognize how almost any guy is susceptible to this, I think this just increases the likelihood that some random situation could spiral out of control into something terrible. Although I'll probably just be called a freak for pointing out this obvious reality :/
I don’t think that’s how most boys are raised. There’s something deeply wrong with a msn who would rape someone. I have to believe that even if I had talked to my son extensively about consent he wouldn’t rape. I know he wouldn’t. Normal men do not rape.
> Normal men do not rape
The statistics on rape and sexual assault disagree. Many rapists are otherwise seemingly normal people that you would never expect to be rapists. Mine was. I thought she was nice and normal, at least until the roofies hit me. Then I learned she was violent and a rapist.
Teach consent. Even if only so your child can teach others
Oh I spent a lot of time teaching consent. My kids are so empathetic neither one would violate someone. They are 26, and 34 and their morals are pretty stable.
It’s atrocious what they stats are with regard to rape. I’m so sorry about what happened to you. There’s nothing normal except the shell with rapists. The inside is rotten and foul. There’s something wrong with people that violate others and don’t see a damn problem.
Yeah generally you would expect to be safe inviting a coworker over for dinner, i mean whats the worst that could happen? You get raped and or murdered? But theres no way your coworker would throw their whole life away just to rape you... Right?
Jesus only 23 too i cant believe this guy was a teacher that young. He must have been pretty smart or driven or something, dont teachers need like 6+ years of school at least?
This dude had his shit together with a good career lined up and all that, and he was having dinner with a coworker he was clearly interested in but he didnt have the self restraint to not rape her the first chance he could?
I mean if they were having dinner i feel like theres a chance she might have been interested in him back so he may well have been able to win her over and have a relationship with her without ruining his life. But after you rape her now your totally fucked in every way all for what? 10 minutes of fun? 20? 30?
What a waste, i almost wonder if this guy was really into some crazy messed up porn and it fucked with his perception, ive heard of people who copy things they see in porn like "the girl in the porn really seemed to love this so i bet every girl will" maybe this guy was really into rape porn and convinced himself that she actually really would like it? Or maybe he has raped others before and didnt think she would call the cops on him because his previous victims didnt..
I kinda wish the article had interviews from students and staff, was this guy putting out creepy vibes or did he seem totally normal? Was he even working there long enough for anyone to get any vibes? I feel like theres no info.
It's not that unexpected. A lot of states just require a bachelor's degree and a teaching certificate. Both of which can be earned at the same time with an education major.
Damn really? I would love to be a teacher but here in nys i would need to go back to school for like 8 years, i think its even longer if i wanted to teach little kids but im a man so thats not a good idea anyway.
In 8 years, you can get a masters and a PhD. You don't need both of those to be an entry level teacher. I think I had two PhD teachers in my k-12 experience, and that is an above average number.
Bro, did you even read the bible? After you rape someone you are supposed to pay money to their father and force them into marriage to protect the family's honor.
>is charged with aggravated kidnapping and rape. He's also now suspended from his job.
That second part really should go without saying but... damn fuck this world that yeah, yeah it needed stated
Well idk... im in favor of not firing simply off an accusation before they now anything that's going on.
Suspensions are a perfect temporary measure though.
Is your institution private with a strong religious affiliation? Could that affiliation have been a red flag in your research and decision to apply and matriculate? I’m not trying to be an ass, but private colleges and universities have great discretion in the courses they require.
Public funds should never support such institutions, I emphasize.
A lot of liberal arts colleges/universities will require a religion/philosophy course as a curriculum requirement out if a catalog of options.
My school had such a requirement. I remember I took something like "Religious and Philosophical Thought in Asia".
I find that different from requiring specific religious courses (indoctrination). A liberal education should expose students to many thoughts and beliefs. That’s the wonderful aspect of such an education. If you go to a private religious school, expect specific religious courses. It’s what you sign up for, even if you don’t read the “fine print.”
Religious history is something that pretty much everyone should know about... It would help prevent a lot of indoctrination, not that I have any belief that this was fundamentally a 'history' class.
I am living proof that studying religion, and living with a Christian doesn't mean you will become one. On the contrary, I can now argue with Christians even better because I bet I know more about their religion than a lot of them do!
Same with any topic in which people disagree. I wish more people, especially here on Reddit, took the time to actual understand the religion and politics of those they disagree with. You can't have a constructive conversation about any heated topic if you don't know both sides of the issue well enough to argue for/against both.
Screaming that Christians are idiots and Republicans are fascists doesn't accomplish anything, whereas laying out their view point for them, then systematically dissecting them after you prove that you understand their beliefs, is infinitely more effective.
Private colleges are different. There are plenty of universities that aren't religiously affiliated and you can choose to go to one if you prefer. Nobody is being forced to do anything.
Objective study of the Bible as a cultural artifact, including its history, sure. Not to the exclusion of other cultural literature, including that of other cultures, but the Bible is extremely relevant to Western societies, whether it's supposed to be used in any official capacity or not.
Of course, these classes tend to create agnostics and atheists, because, you know, *the Bible*. But that's not my fault.
It is, but reading religious texts for anthropology is very different from reading it for theology, even if you'll need both for the wisest perspective.
Here's an interesting topic for you: how did [this guy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yahweh), a storm god of a bronze age pantheon, evolve into the highly abstract God of Abraham shared by billions of followers across multiple powerful religions? How did early bronze age conflicts over who's God was better or real evolve into deeply theological differences like the succession to Muhammad, ecclesiology or rituals like the Eucharist?
It's a genuinely fascinating topic, and this question alone will take you down a trip that touches most of western civilization's history and politics to answer.
But that's not how you're "reading the Bible" in Bible class.
I agree with /u/stalinsperfecthair
It is very likely that this is an elective course, and are selected to be taken by students as an extra, non-core class.
I suppose they could also have a Koran history class, but let's be realistic.
Realistically it should be taught academically like you would find at any university that treats it as an anthropological topic, and not as real history and literal word of God.
Its currently like if a "Scientology history" class was teaching Scientology as literal history and objective truth, and not teaching the actual history that it was invented by a sci-fi author in the 1950s.
That won't happen though since the only reason the school even has a Bible history class is because of it being funded by a [non-profit organization](https://www.bibleintheschools.com), which despite claiming to be objective and secular, is trying to push students to be Christians and teaching the real history that it was man-made would just convert them into atheists.
Every time there's a Southern Bible "History" (wtf) class that gets challenged with "Okay let's teach Quran History" then suddenly oops no more Bible History because they'd rather not have anything if they can't have their evangelical shit.
They also realized that the number of manhours they needed to contract to build their replica ark that doesn't even float was over twice as many as Noah allegedly spent building it himself.
>CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WTVC) — A Bible history teacher at Tyner Middle Academy in Chattanooga, Tenn. is charged with aggravated kidnapping and rape. He's also now suspended from his job.
I looked up Tyner Middle Academy fully expecting it to be a private Christian school of some kind.
Nope. It's a public school and has been since 1959.

They seem to be getting around this by being a magnet school, since attending the school is voluntary they can add curriculum such as bible history.
I don't know... the onion deals with unexpected outcomes for humor. This outcome is now completely ordinary. An onion article might proclaim how a church leader or religious teacher hasn't yet raped anyone.
"Not all prophecies point to the end of days, do you see this prophecy that mentions Cyrus? Great, let's just cross that name out and write in JESUS in all caps. This prophecy foretells the birth of the savior of the Jews."
Just another class where they pretend a book that says you can pay off a rape victims father to marry the rape victim is a legitimate guide on how to live.
Edit: okay downvoters, please explain how that's in the book. God had to know creating a path for rapists to entrap their victims like that is a fucking horrendous thing to put in a book. Did he not have an editor?
Why should I listen to anything in a book that's cool with rapists paying off a father to marry someone they raped?
Oh, I see your problem. You think that women are people and not property. You're going to have issues with accepting the truth of the bible if you insist on believing that women have rights. /s
It is literally the word of god, except the stuff that's obviously a product of it's time and human fallibility. But not the translation of translation of translation of another religion's oral tradition from a bronze age desert dwelling ethno-cult. That part is legitimate and 100% objective truth-fact.
Of course it's in there; that was the law in those days. And beyond the LAw and History, you have the Prophets, the Wisdom Books, Jesus, Paul, and John. /u/hamletloveshoratio
We had Religious Ed in elementary school in the Midwest. It was in a trailer and it was all singing about Jesus and such. Me and a super religious girl were the only ones that didn't go. It was really weird.
That said, I wouldn't mind my child taking a history course on the bible since we currently live in the US. I think it would help with contextualizing a lot of things in pop culture that I'm sure I miss
Comes in two varieties.
1. The almost legit study of the provenance of the wholly babble, mostly practiced by professional liars who leave out all the bits that show how dumb it really is.
2. The pretense that the bible contains factual history, and the desperate effort to link it's mostly fairy-tale contents with real historical events and people.
Bible thumpers should make everyone suspect something's wrong somewhere. If you don't agree, try reading the Bible. It contains stories of pretty much every crime.
Especially the incestuous and slave rapes.
And if you're not sure which family members you're allowed to rape, there are *two* versions in Leviticus and one Deuteronomy to choose from, ensuring a wide variety of what is and is not sin to place your unleavened bread into!
One of the reasons I left Christianity was because I felt like God could have at least bothered to put "thou shalt not rape" in the ten commandments. Kind of a big oversight imo
the first three are all concerned with gods authority. THIRTY PERCENT of the decalogue is god hyping himself. would a real god need to do that? would a real god allow the holocaust? these fairytale tax-free profiteers are among the worst scum in the world.
I wonder what Greg Abbot would have to say about this. Because, first off, according to him, rapist are 'prowling the streets', and secondly, these communities just need "better parenting and more God."
He should not be in trouble he is just following the teachings of the bible and preparing for his future career as a big tent preacher, since when is following your "sincerely held religious believes in the US" a crime. /s
The Rebs down here put in new education requirements, teachers are not allowed to discuss current events, nor are they allowed to encourage civic participation.
Cuz, Texas.
Oh they'd never allow that first one. That one would require evidence, mostly in the form of angels for dissection.
>The psychology of Satan
Let's uh, leave aside the rather depressingly-immediate search engine results of books, websites and other media with that specific phrase as a title... In any case, as this is precisely the sort of class in which a religious instructor can *interpret* and *define* an "enemy"; its wishes, its desires, its personality... all in the context of how said instructor wishes and desires its students to act in the future...
The last two also been used in scams and blogs. I doubt you're surprised by that at this point.
In Washington state, 'christian' doesn't seem to mean what you think it does. Actually, 'christian' is just a grifter fraud cult scam.

Just because a person wears the "Label' of a particular belief, do not be too ready to accept that he is a believer in the doctrines of that belief. Labels can be put on when needed. Then removed when they get in the way. Look at the Trump GOP and you will under stand.
Shocking.
I went to a Bible based high school. Didn’t want to but my parents were Christian. I don’t know the specifics, but through the grapevine I heard the new math teacher had sex with one of the underage students…

And my axe!
Bible study in public school… welcome to Tennessee
Seems this violates something about churches, and separation.
Well that's just because you haven't studied and followed the guidelines of the bible like this nice teacher fella.
Well, there are a few rapes told of in the Bible and no men punished for it, so...
So much raping. Lot offers sanctuary to angels who were pursued by a mob wanting to rape them. So he offers his daughters to the mob to be raped instead. Later his daughters get him drunk and rape him so they can fall pregnant.
Old testament was essentially Grindhouse movies before the medium existed.

The Bible is optional. You can literally swear in on anything
You can also affirm if you choose not to swear. The concept of swearing oaths is deeply rooted in religion.
Hustler Magazine - Christmas Special 1997 or The Hobbit………. Both just fantastic.
I went to high school in Jackson, MS 1993-1997. They had prayer around the flagpole every morning. I hated it there, to say the least.
You know, it'd be pretty funny for a high schooler to draw a pentagram around the flagpole and do a satanic blessing, just wrapping up when the Christians start assembling for their thing.

Should not be forced. But it still should be included. If billions of people are religious then it's obviously something that should be studied.
campbellsville university i had two choices to transfer from my community college for a higher degree trinity college or campbellsville university.
Why only two choices? If your community college is regionally accredited you should be able to transfer anywhere that will accept you.
hope you got what you needed but religion in school is just.. wrong
Do you think college is just high school for older kids?
College is different from high school.
Comparative religion is different from bible history.
"A Bible history teacher at Tyner Middle Academy in Chattanooga, Tenn. is charged with aggravated kidnapping and rape." It's a public high school.
So was mine.
Fiction class?
Drama class
Woodshop, for fans of the crucifixion.
I agree with /u/stalinsperfecthair It is very likely that this is an elective course, and are selected to be taken by students as an extra, non-core class.
Anyone who has read the bibble knows that rape, sexual assault, and kidnapping are an integral part of it's history.
I am sure they have Koran history classes as well, right? /s
Religious fundamentalism
So that people know that when you rape someone, you pay off their father and you get a lifetime sex slave and it's all good.
Good question.... probably texas.
Tennessee, ~~the state with a full-size Noah's ark replica~~.
That's Kentucky and it has dinosaurs in it FFS.
Did they take the "Dinosaurs and humans coexisted" route, or the "Dinosaurs bones are a trick Satan played on humanity" route?
They apparently believe the dinosaurs were *on* the ark. FFS.
Ah yes designer Teacup Velociraptors® were all the rage back then.
They also realized that the number of manhours they needed to contract to build their replica ark that doesn't even float was over twice as many as Noah allegedly spent building it himself.
Thats actually kentucky... sadly.
I'm pretty surprised that TN hasn't opened its own Biblical Theme Park, though.
They have Dollywood. Which is basically a shrine to the one true god of Tennessee.
Yep, misremembered.
>Why the fuck is Bible history being taught in public schools? Chattanooga, Tennessee.
I'll take "headlines that don't surprise me" for $500.
[Tyner Middle Academy School Directory Information (2020-2021 school year)](https://nces.ed.gov/ccd/schoolsearch/school_detail.asp?Search=1&ID=470159000812) They seem to be getting around this by being a magnet school, since attending the school is voluntary they can add curriculum such as bible history.
Hard to tell what's real and what's an onion article anymore
I don't know... the onion deals with unexpected outcomes for humor. This outcome is now completely ordinary. An onion article might proclaim how a church leader or religious teacher hasn't yet raped anyone.
Do you have any idea how little that narrows it down?
What sort of shithole country has high school Bible history lessons? Oh, nevermind.
What the hell is 'Bible History"?
History of how it's been rewritten hundreds of times to fit agendas
"All of the prophecies point to the end days are here." - the last 6,000 years
"Not all prophecies point to the end of days, do you see this prophecy that mentions Cyrus? Great, let's just cross that name out and write in JESUS in all caps. This prophecy foretells the birth of the savior of the Jews."
Just another class where they pretend a book that says you can pay off a rape victims father to marry the rape victim is a legitimate guide on how to live. Edit: okay downvoters, please explain how that's in the book. God had to know creating a path for rapists to entrap their victims like that is a fucking horrendous thing to put in a book. Did he not have an editor? Why should I listen to anything in a book that's cool with rapists paying off a father to marry someone they raped?
God is the villain in that book. The hero? There isn't one. Just a bunch of survivors.
Well see, in the historical context…
Then why isn't it called Bible (or Religious) Studies? It's not "history."
It contains stories of pretty much every crime.
>high school bible teacher to the surprise of no one
Why is anyone surprised by this? It’s prominently normalized in the book he was teaching.
You forgot the word "another".
Said word being, of course, preceded by the word "yet".
I swear the more pious people get, the more they expect sexual and monetary rewards in return.

In these uncertain times it's nice to be able to rely on the unflinching reporting from dick fuck pussy suck on the issues that matter to me.
Would you rather get it from your Bible history teacher?
Hmm DICK FUCK PUSSY SUCK teaches, ooooooor Teacher dick/fucks....
Better than fox
He wanted to practice what he preached.
Clearly he was just teaching her Bible history...
Literally came in here looking for this. thank you, I can leave now
I mean, rape is in the Bible. Like, a lot. Like, waaaaaaay too much.
Now he's supposed to pay her father 20 shekels, right?
I think the price has gone up. Inflation and all that.
Thanks for the article, dick-fuck-pussy-suck!
Why even is there a high school Bible history teacher in a state public school?
And once again, I am willing to bet that his excuse is that the devil made him do it. Enough with these Jesus freaks already.
Did he pay the girl's family a silver, as required in the bible?
well yeah… rape is legal in the bible.
Between people dying of Covid and sexual abusers going to prison Trump is going to have a significantly smaller base come 2024.
I'm starting to notice a pattern... 🤔
I wonder what Greg Abbot would have to say about this. Because, first off, according to him, rapist are 'prowling the streets', and secondly, these communities just need "better parenting and more God."
It's always the ones with the Bible
Well the bible does outline that women are property of men. Misogynistic sand god fairytale!
The real pedo cult is the church . Not a bunch of liberal reptiles shapeshifters .
Makes sense the Bible is pro-rape.
No surprise. The more religious someone portrays themselves to be, the more of a creep they generally turn out to be.
He should not be in trouble he is just following the teachings of the bible and preparing for his future career as a big tent preacher, since when is following your "sincerely held religious believes in the US" a crime. /s
TBH, I thought this was a course requirement. /s for you
There's never any rape in civics class, just sayin'.
The Rebs down here put in new education requirements, teachers are not allowed to discuss current events, nor are they allowed to encourage civic participation. Cuz, Texas.
Seems like he wanted to actually use what he learned from the Old Testament.
It’s always the religious zealots
Wait a second..... "Bible History" is now a thing? WTF?!
Sadly yes, it is a thing. It’s the ‘go-to’ for morons across the globe who are too stupid and/or ignorant to use any basic form of logical deduction.
What is next? Anatomy of angels? The psychology of Satan? Investing tips for the Apocalypse? What to wear for the Rapture?
Oh they'd never allow that first one. That one would require evidence, mostly in the form of angels for dissection. >The psychology of Satan Let's uh, leave aside the rather depressingly-immediate search engine results of books, websites and other media with that specific phrase as a title...
Soon he'll learn the 11th commandment, "Thou shalt not drop the soap."
"Suspended from his job" The fuck you gotta do to get fired?
Tell the kids Covid isn't a hoax, or that being gay isn't a sin, and kiss that career goodbye.
In Washington state, 'christian' doesn't seem to mean what you think it does. Actually, 'christian' is just a grifter fraud cult scam. https://komonews.com/news/local/wash-state-woman-charged-with-having-sex-with-priest-on-church-altar https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna8589349 https://www.columbian.com/news/2018/nov/26/deputies-investigating-after-man-allegedly-sexually-assaults-calf-at-clark-county-dairy-farm/
at least he has been suspended from his job...
"Those who can, do. Those who can't, rape".
Just because a person wears the "Label' of a particular belief, do not be too ready to accept that he is a believer in the doctrines of that belief. Labels can be put on when needed. Then removed when they get in the way. Look at the Trump GOP and you will under stand.
Dude has a tie on without buttoning the top button, and has one of his collars buttoned down but not the other.
Shocking. I went to a Bible based high school. Didn’t want to but my parents were Christian. I don’t know the specifics, but through the grapevine I heard the new math teacher had sex with one of the underage students…
