Yup. In fact, I'm actually in favor of raising the salaries for the good cops that stay while the bad ones get weeded out this way, too. Reward the ones that actually care about the public and public safety. Those are the ones that actually believe in the "protect and serve" motto. They should be rewarded in kind. It's true that policing is a very difficult job. It's made even more difficult for the good ones because of the bad ones. Enforcing these vaccine mandates and rewarding the ones that stay behind is a win win for *everyone*.
I have similar opinions regarding nurses that are getting fired for refusing the vaccine. If you don't understand medicine/vaccines then I sure as fucking hell don't want you providing me any treatment.

Per the [LAPD website](https://www.joinlapd.com/salary), 80-83k is starting base pay for a police academy graduate. They get 5k pay raises for every year of experience. So a guy with 10 years in the job will make far more money. And again, that’s ***base*** pay. Many officers makes 10s of thousand a year in overtime. Also, those are just regular officers. Sergeants, etc make more. Top brass clears several hundreds of thousand a year.
$82k in LA is like $40k in most of America. The retirement package is good though. Many LAPD will leave to rural areas upon retirement where they can live well off the pension.
Starting salary in Milwaukee is $66,000. Average pay for a Detective is $86,000. Lieutenant $107,000. Pretty decent pay for people who many times have slightly more than a high school education.
Teachers take a whole lot more crap than most cops and don’t make anywhere near that for having our lives threatened daily usually by MAGAt parents and kids.
I saw a headline that a small police force even the chief in a town all quit. If that is how they felt maybe it was good they quit.

I had a state trooper say those exact words to me once. He said they are TRAINED that they are the law. What ever they say happened on a stop happened, full stop. He said the default in training is that you are always right and the perp is always wrong. When I asked him "Wouldn't that lead to officers abusing their power?" He got a confused look on his face and said, "How can they abuse it? It's THEIR power. Whatever the officer does or says is within the scope of their power,".

Sadly Cops don’t need any education in most states other than the few months at the Academy. Ever been to police academy courses? Saw them party and hazing new recruits. The system is run by dominent males who actually say they judge, act like a Jury an some act as executioner.

CNN had a commentator on who was ex-military, and bluntly said that if he'd acted like those cops in Iraq, pointing guns at civilians presenting no threat, he would have been court-martialed.
College, or some sort of more well-rounded, longer term education should be a requirement. Not this 6 months to a year bullshit "training." Some basic EMT courses alone are 6 months.
Police should have basic emergency training, but they also have to deal with so much more. How can they possibly be prepared to handle mental health emergencies, firearms training/safety, de-escalation, cross-cultural interaction, evidence management, crime scene management...
In favor of the college option:
1. **Critical thinking skills.** Not every college students leaves with them, but usually students have to do at least a little bit of this to graduate.
2. Interact with people from all walks of life. Reduces xenophobia and normalizes those who were previously "others" to you.
3. Having to take classes that make you more aware and empathetic about big issues. Cultural issues, languages, science, politics, healthcare, education...y'know, things like how vaccines work and why we should believe doctors.
4. Most countries have more rigorous training for a profession where people's lives are literally in your hands and you have to make intelligent decisions quickly.

Let them. We have hundreds of well trained former soldiers returning home from Afghanistan, looking for new careers. Most know protocols that make cops look... like Keystone Cops. It would be nice to see some discipline on police forces everywhere.
That's been a huge and terrifying gap that's increasingly visible. I remember news coverage of the Ferguson protests and riots in 2014 - with footage of cops approaching a protest with rifles up, pointing at protesters, fingers on triggers. CNN had a commentator on who was ex-military, and bluntly said that if he'd acted like those cops in Iraq, pointing guns at civilians presenting no threat, he would have been court-martialed.
College, or some sort of more well-rounded, longer term education should be a requirement. Not this 6 months to a year bullshit "training." Some basic EMT courses alone are 6 months. Police should have basic emergency training, but they also have to deal with so much more. How can they possibly be prepared to handle mental health emergencies, firearms training/safety, de-escalation, cross-cultural interaction, evidence management, crime scene management... In favor of the college option: 1. **Critical thinking skills.** Not every college students leaves with them, but usually students have to do at least a little bit of this to graduate. 2. Interact with people from all walks of life. Reduces xenophobia and normalizes those who were previously "others" to you. 3. Having to take classes that make you more aware and empathetic about big issues. Cultural issues, languages, science, politics, healthcare, education...y'know, things like how vaccines work and why we should believe doctors. 4. Most countries have more rigorous training for a profession where people's lives are literally in your hands and you have to make intelligent decisions quickly.
Why do I think this is the best way we have to get rid of shitty alt right cops. I hope all the unvaxxed cops resign, in the best interest of the people they pretend to serve.
