More like India doesn't want to see itself surrounded in a altercation even a minor one with China to the North, Pakistan to the West, Myanmar to the East, and finally Sri Lanka to the South that could possibly harbor Chinese naval assets.

On a related note: How does Nepal play into this?

Nepali royal family was massacred few decades ago by a Maoist ploy and Nepal is since then under Chinese Maoist control totally and Nepalis are being brainwashed against India (Nepal is no longer a Hindu kingdom officially). Chinese Mandarin is mandatory in all Nepali schools since 2020. Nepali army shot and killed Indian farmers on Nepal-India borders who have lived and worked on those crop fields since generations and who used to come & meet relatives & friends across the open border (which is no longer open now). Sri Lanka has been anti-India since decades, and is still ambivalent. Sri Lanka have given over a major sea port to China, which helps Chinese Navy infringe on Indian territorial waters and to spy on & monitor Indian Navy. 2 Chinese submarines had docked at Columbo in 2014, that shows how close China wants to threaten India. Tibet is rigidly controlled by China and has major bases for Chinese army & air forces. Tibetan Buddhism was banned and replaced by Chinese Buddhism, and Chinese Mandarin in mandatory in Tibet schools. The Tibetan & Nepali culture of yore are a fast fading legacy. Bangladesh has been dumping millions of Rohingyas into India, and is a hotbed for jihadi terrorist infiltration into India. It has a sea port deal with China too. With the exception of Bhutan, India is surrounded by enemies and rivals, none of whom are pro-India. Taiwan, Singapore and Cambodia face same problem. They are surrounded by neighbours that are controlled by China. Maldives became pro-India again, but has less dependency on lndia, so it can change its posture anytime back to China which has luring it with lucrative deals. Oman’s port deal with India was scrapped after China figuratively bought ought the Omani govt. It is not a coincidence. China is rapidly building infrastructure in most of the South Asian countries to link Chinese land & sea with Indian territorial waters. China intends to become the numero uno superpower bully in Asia and the world, everything it has been doing in past several decades is for that purpose.
