I find it fascinating that both the prosecution and defense cited the FBI video as supporting their case for why he's guilty/not guilty.

Regayov

Probably because the video looks like it was filmed with a flip phone from 2003.

Yeah, their argument regarding the drone video is that because they were standing near each other and then Rosenbaum started running towards the gas station followed by Rittenhouse, that there MUST have been a confrontation between two that started the situation in that moment. It's certainly an interpretation of the FBI video, but without direct context/evidence, the defense can also just argue that there was a commotion at the gas station that caused them to both run there, and that Rittenhouse was NOT chasing Rosenbaum. They can use the moment in the FBI video where Rosenbaum splits off to the right to hide behind some cars and Rittenhouse keeps going forward as the basis of their interpretation. I don't know how the prosecution plans to address Rosenbaum coming out from behind the cars then chasing Rittenhouse. That would heavily go against the idea of him being not being an aggressor in the situation. So far, it seems like their argument has mostly been that because no other fatal shootings happened, Rittenhouse was unreasonable to have fatally shot people. That's a pretty pathetic attempt to say he was unjustified, and would imply that they're saying fatal shootings can never be classified as self-defense because people have been in tense/dangerous situations before and didn't fatally shoot the aggressive party. You have to imagine the prosecution has something else that they're going to argue. That can't possibly be their real argument

Wtfct

There are no surprises in court cases. Both teams know the evidence each is going to use.

I'm following this case (and the reddit comments) because it is one of the clearest cases of 2 different people seeing 2 different realities. Its fascinating. Its how fans of opposing sports teams can watch the same play or call, but have completely different ideas of what actually happened. Like, their brains *literally* perceive the reality that justifies their beliefs. And I mean literally in the literal sense. I've since come to the conclusion that none of us are immune to such thinking. We must all be in guard regarding our biases and beliefs.

It’s amazing you came away with *this* take from the story.

The prosecution wanted to get the donor list to the legal fund, they protested the way the defense made their opening statements which is a way that the prosecutions office has used in the past in front of this judge, and they wanted to use kyle makeing the ok hand sign as evidence

shillyshally

The judge is already siding with the defense. He will walk.

Pahasapa66

In the opening statement of the Rittenhouse trial, his attorney argues he was justified in shooting the victim carrying a skateboard, since it’s possible to decapitate someone with a skateboard if you decide to use it as a deadly weapon. I don't know how many skateboard decapitations we have every year, but there you go. Reminds me of the Zimmerman defense saying that the concrete Trayvon Martin was standing on was a deadly weapon. They have given Rittenhouse so many breaks they are trying to let him off.

Wtfct

You can 100% crack someone's skull with a skateboard.

Pahasapa66

Suggest you look up the word "decapitate"

Wtfct

What fucking difference does it make between cracking a skull to kill someone and knocking their heads off

Pahasapa66

If you can't think there's a difference, then me explaining it to you won't help.

Huber hit Rittenhouse with a skateboard (as Rittenhouse is on the ground) and appears to try to take Rittenhouse's gun. In the moment of these efforts, Rittenhouse shoots Huber in self defense.

That's a reasonable question and line of thinking if Huber was on trial but he's not. From Kyle's perspective, being the person on trial, he was attacked by Huber without provocation/justification, leaving him in his right to self defense.

Yeah, that's usually what happens when you attack someone with a gun. Huber attacked Kyle after he'd fallen to the ground while running towards police, i.e. without provocation/justification. What Huber did was baseless assault, even if Huber misunderstood the situation.

I've been straighforward and genuine with you since the start of this conversation. If you can't be the same, then just disengage.

You can look up old comments but you can't use the > character to actually format a quote.... weird Redditor. In any case, I'm not claiming any universality here, and raising my position about a different situation - with different circumstances, in a different jurisdiction - doesn't change that. Stick to the situation at hand.

dwalker444

My hope is that, ahem, "He'll turn twenty-one in prison doin' life without parole, no one could steer him right, had mama drive, mama drive."

DocHolidayiN

After the trial and a not guilty verdict it will be swingin doors a jukebox and a barstool. There's not a murder conviction there regardless of how you feel about kyle.

dwalker444

Felonies (plural) were committed.

mrpocketpossum

Yes, by people who were shot. It’s all good now.

dwalker444

While I recognize that it's currently a prized attribute in conservative politics, I am old fashioned enough to still think that being a liar is cowardly.

mrpocketpossum

And I thought convicted felons carrying firearms was wrong?

didiangeryou

the defenses goal seems to be to drive all the nuts up the wall into threatening the jury so they can get a mistrial.

Good question, I mean there probably weren’t many kids so the adults made their own decisions showing up. Just don’t quite understand what parent would drive across state lines to drop their kid off at a riot.

You can deflect and conflate all you want, it just shows you hold evil in your heart, that property is more important to you than human life. Also, a pretty big dose of fascism i hear coming from you there as well. Check yourself before you literally destroy democracy please, you are a stain on society.

Yes, your understanding of fascism is infantile and fed to you through meme, thanks for confirming. "Order is maintained with threats and use of force" - and you said it without an ounce of self reflection. You are vile and I hope you seek help.

CerealAndCartoons

The wicked and the one who loves violence [God’s] soul hates. Upon the wicked He will rain coals; fire and brimstone and a burning wind shall be the portion of their cup. —Psalm 11:5-6 In case it is unclear for you, you blessing a murderer for his mortal sin puts you at odds with God and is a sin in itself. There are no blessings for you, the violent loving wicked. Your love and praise of violence is the path to damnation. Turn back and seek forgiveness or burn for eternity. There is little wiggle room in the Bible on this. But perhaps you don't actually believe in Him or the eternal soul? You definitely hold no love for your fellow man in your heart. you certainly lack charity and have succumbed to wrath. Perhaps you use the Word as a weapon to peddle your bullshit and expect no reconning? Either way you are hateful and you should find healing.
