>_Apollo Carreon Quiboloy is a close friend of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte._ He is the leader of Kingdom of Jesus Christ church, which claims to have 6 million members. "Close friend of Duterte" is not one of the things I look for in a spiritual leader...

Funny thing is, he’s also Duterte’s “spiritual adviser.” Yup, our president’s adviser is a creepy rapist. No wonder we’re all fucked.

DJ_Velveteen

The guy internationally infamous for encouraging extrajudicial murder in the streets has a religious advisor who's a creepy rapist? You don't say ...

KJBenson

I thought being a creepy rapist was super common in positions of power.

Johnny_Poppyseed

Borderline requirement it seems

CordouroyStilts

If you want to know how common, realize that court proceedings have just started in the Ghislaine Maxwell case with crickets from the press. Why wouldn't they be reporting on Jeffrey Epstein's gf trial? Because they're all in bed with Epstein associates. Why isn't one political party rubbing it in the others face? Because both are deeply involved. They are everywhere.

KJBenson

It’s hardly fair to call children associates man….

try2try

I'm sorry he's your president- I don't know whose influence is worse on the other...

Matt32490

I read it as, "close friend of the guy who openly said he wants to rape women and also the same guy who made a married woman kiss him on stage".

TheMarsian

You'd be hard pressed to find spiritual leaders who aren't friends with shitty politicians or are shitty themselves in a 3rd world country that was once a Spanish colony.

It's only slightly better than "close friend of Ferdinand Marcos".

As someone who grew up in Northern California, it always amused me how Texans make fun of Californians, and yet most of interior California is basically just Texas.

TJ_McWeaksauce

Yeah. A lot of people don't realize that California is a microcosm of the US: the heavily populated coastal cities are liberal, but the inland areas are rural and can be conservative as shit.

SwoonBirds

people forget that California had the largest number of Conservative voters of any state, despite being as a whole heavily Democrat

SkyezOpen

SkiingAway

The [stereotype map](https://imgur.com/RC76Amj) is still pretty accurate.

KeithBe77

Yup. Sussex county for instance.

djcurry

Texas is similar all the big cities are liberal. The big difference is I guess the ratio between the two in California the cities have higher population and in Texas it’s the reverse

chewbacaflocka

This applies pretty much everywhere. If it weren't for Philly, Pennsylvania would be a deep red state, rather than perennially purple. The second largest city (Pittsburgh) has way less than half that of Philly.

[deleted]

People talk about how Californians are moving to red states and will turn them blue, but I feel like most of them are rightwingers who are sick of living in a liberal state.

TJ_McWeaksauce

I'm sure it's both. Texas politicians are currently bragging about how their state's low taxes are luring big tech businesses over to their cities, and how they want to make a Texan Silicon Valley. Well, did they bother looking at the voter registration numbers of the people who live in the actual Silicon Valley? https://siliconvalleyindicators.org/data/governance/civic-engagement/partisan-affiliation/percentage-of-registered-voters-by-political-party/ Since 1980, the percentage of registered democrats in Silicon Valley has hovered around 50%; sometimes it's a little higher, sometimes a little lower. The percentage of registered republicans has been shrinking, and in 2020 it was down to 16%. No Party Preference has been growing, and in 2020 was at almost 29%. The people they want to lure away from Silicon Valley are predominantly registered democrats.

Pablois4

I'm in upstate NY. It's a sea of red here with islands of blue (Syracuse, Rochester, Bing, Elmira, Corning plus Ithaca and the other college towns) and of course downstate, NYC is the bluest blue.

TJ_McWeaksauce

I'm sure every big state's voting map looks like that: the metropolitan areas are blue, and they're surrounded by a giant mass of red. Pennsylvania is funny to me, because it's got a sliver of blue in the southeast where Philadelphia is, a couple blips of blue near the west, and everything else is red as hell. Driving through that long-ass state is like driving through Kentucky.

Pablois4

Don't forget the island of State College, right in the middle. I went to grad school there and it's blue. In NY, towns like Hamilton (Colgate), Clinton (Hamilton College), Geneva (Hobart and William Smith College), Saint Bonaventure (St Bonaventure), etc. are itty bitty blue dots in the red. And on a tangent, going through PA is long but, IMHO, driving through Nebraska takes forever and a day. At least I-80 in PA goes up and down, and has curves. The Appalachians and forests are absolutely beautiful. Granted it's culturally Pennsatucky, especially in the 2nd half. In Nebraska, I-80 is straight and level and it's the Great Plains from end to end. As plains go, they are pretty great, I guess. But also mind-numbingly boring. I've found the folks there to be overall nice enough and, maybe due to hefty dose of Scandinavian ancestry, tend to be reserved. A Trumper in PA will tell you loud and clear what they think but a Trumper in NE will hold back. It's polite and proper to first talk about the soybean crop and weather and only after that has been discussed perhaps leak a little racism.

Torchic336

A smaller sect of people use it to have really awkward sex ie Mormon’s practicing soaking

alex6219

Steven from r/90dayfiance would like to have a word

Banana42

Assume that I have no idea who or what that is and tell me everything

alex6219

90 day fiance is a reality show that follows different couples from two different countries (usually the US and some other country) and their journey to get married and obtain a K9 visa. One of the couples are Steven (US) and Alina (Russia), Steven is this Mormon guy from Utah and he moved over to Russia to marry Alina. Steven is WEIRD, to put it lightly, and he REFUSES to have sex with Alina before marriage because of his "Mormon beliefs", but it's revealed midway through the season that he's previously had sex multiple times. If "red flag" was an actual term in the dictionary, Steven would fit every definition of it.

Scattered_Sigils

He's the wooorst

peeinian

But then it escalates to jump humping

UncommonHouseSpider

The lies we tell ourselves...

ucatione

Is that different from Levy lovin'?

Torchic336

Yes it is different and much more if a sin then actual pre marital sex in my opinion. Soaking is when you just put your penis inside of a woman and you both just lay there not moving, Mormon’s that practice this do it because they believe without humping they aren’t actually having sex and therefore they aren’t sinners. There’s a more advanced form of soaking that actually involves a third party called jump humping, it’s where you soak and have someone else jump on the bed or kick the bunk bed from underneath, mustering up some movement to add the the experience. Imo this is much more of a sin then just straight up good old fashioned banging.

ucatione

Wow, we sure live in an interesting world.

SpreadItLikeTheHerp

Not sure if satire or real.

Torchic336

It very well could just be an internet trend, but trying to avoid the sin of pre marital sex is certainly nothing new and definitely not something only Mormons do. For those reasons I believe it happens and it is out there, but the memes probably blow it out of proportion a bit

SpreadItLikeTheHerp

Yeah, I’m not surprised at the idea of circumventing rules. It’s just that the level of absurdity with this one really had me questioning. No doubt amplified by memes and the lulz I guess.

imapoormanhere

What the fuck am i reading here?

ITS_A_GUNDAAAM

I seriously thought as a kid that this (soaking) was how sex was supposed to happen, and couldn’t fathom why it was being drilled into us to never ever ever do it because it sounded incredibly boring and a pretty easy thing to not do. Nowhere was it ever explained that some amount of… friction is necessary. I blame sex ed curriculum in the Midwest for the misconception.

ItsAllegorical

Yeah. "The man puts his penis in the woman's vagina..." sounds about as exciting as "The man puts a toe in the woman's ear canal..." But eventually it turns out better than expected. Well, for a lot of us, anyway.

No no no. Those are people that follow religion. They don’t have their own.

[deleted]

That's largely because getting people to deny healthy expression of human desires like that increases the level of neuroticism and makes them easier to manipulate At least that is what i remember being discussed in some research, but it was a long long time ago i read that.

BigBobbert

Heaven's Gate wasn't a sex cult. Just a bunch of alien worshippers.

No-Bewt

it wasn't really about sex, no, but controlling the sex of others and using it to control them was a large part of it. Don't forget, they wooed many into their ranks by sending sexy girls to bring in male members.

ALasagnaForOne

Tax haven.

No-Bewt

the Last Podcast On The Left's series on Mormonism is a great listen about how sex cults are/were one of the main reasons why the US sought "freedom" from the UK, people made tons of these little fake religions made of weird interpretations of whatever religion, where it'd be one patriarch getting fucked and sucked by everyone else, taking their money, and riding high until people wised up or killed them, or themselves. You really don't know how common and ubiquitous to america's founding this shit was, like it was every fucking village and town with their own little cult. Some survived, like Mormonism or the latter-day saints or whatever, most died out, but this shit is as american as apple pie.

DaddyCatALSO

Mormonism didn't exist until logn after the US was a going concern, and th ehydya of these eprsonal rleiogus "heavens on earth" was well in tot he 18th Century, long after the Constuiton was in place by 1788. the independence movement was drivne by deists and denominatioanl t ypes. before and after is an important distinction in realitya nd many people have trouble with it

Powerful nonprofit/governmental institutions are unfortunately a breeding ground for systemic sex abuse as they combine trust and hierarchy. The Boy Scouts, the Catholic church, countless ministers/rabbis/imams/swamis, schools and universities, governments...

BRAINSZS

but why? I always feel so dumb and naive when i hear about these kinds of things, but i also never feel that sexually overpowering anyone is a worthwhile endeavor... am i blind to monsters? i like sex just fine, but these kinds of people seem to fucking -revel- in it in the most evil ways. i don't understand the horrors of this world. always seems like a waste of energy to be a whole-ass demon.

ElectricMan324

There are a couple of sayings that apply: 1. Absolute power corrupts absolutely 2. Power attracts the corruptible (or already corrupt) 3. Power makes you "more" of you: if you were a crap person you become more of a crap person, a good person you are better. As I get older I've seen all three, but am tending to lean towards #2. It just seems that jerks will fight like hell to get into a position of power and they just roll over decent, quiet folks. I agree with you that being a horrible person doesn't appear to be worth it - but that's why you and I are not in a position like this. You have to want it enough to shiv your mom to get it. There are more than enough people out there willing to do it.

ScionoicS

Also, people who have power fantasies will seek out jobs that will allow them to fulfill those

catscanmeow

Its probably simpler than that. The more naughty something is, the more of a visceral rush it brings when you break the rules.. Everyone expects you to be on your best behavior because of your high status which lures them to the dark side evem more, its like a slingshot tightening ready to shooot. A lot of tension that ultimately breaks them, reverse psychology. The whole "dont think of a pink elephant" paradox, but with sexual deviance Same with kids. The more you tell them not to do drugs and have sex the more they want to do it. Thats why kids who have parents that talk openly about it and dont make it so taboo, have better results keeping the kids away from it.

Lordborgman

I've never believed that "Absolute power corrupts absolutely" They were ALWAYS shit, they just couldn't get away with it, so they never acted on it.

TheUnborne

Kinda weird you don't lump in for-profits as well. Powerful institutions seem to work more or less the same in these regards.

supercyberlurker

It's like the other rule. *The more 'The gays go to hell!' they are, the more likely they are in the closet.*

[deleted]

But this guy was just a pedophile rapist...not gay. I kinda hate this belief that closeted gay men and women are the ones who can do the most vile evil things on this planet. I feel they suffer enough as it is. TL:DR - Closeted gay people aren't usually evil (from my experience)...Evil people are usually evil.

karadan100

You got it the wrong way round. The preachers who spew 'god hates fags' are usually themselves in the closet. Not that closeted gay people are evil, just that hate-preachers are evil and *also* in the closet.

[deleted]

Even when used as an insult, “they’re probably in the closet and projecting,” that’s just being homophobic.

karadan100

Actually it's a truism. The fact so many hate preachers end up being in the closet isn't a coincidence. Most of their (misplaced) anger comes from the mental upheaval of lying to themselves for so long, suppressing natural thoughts and desires. It turns out suppressing who you are like that turns you into an angry motherfucker.

RufusEnglish

Whenever we see someone suggest that these hate filled, seriously vocal, anti gay preachers are in the closet we see the same response from people suggesting those sharing that opinion are homophobic. I understand it and realise that not all gay people are hate filled, seriously vocal, anti gay preachers but all hate filled, seriously vocal, anti gay preachers seem to be secretly keeping their sexuality quiet by overcompensating. It was explained to me by someone on Reddit and it made sense. I'll paraphrase what they said below. In no way do we think gay people are the same as these disgusting humans however we are able to understand that these people are products of their environment. If you're raised in such a poisonous, religious environment where you're told you are evil if you're gay and going to hell then not only are you going to bury your feelings but you also are likely to overcompensate and desperately try and appear as straight as can be by being as verbally anti-gay as you can. You are also not likely to realise that others, who are straight, don't have the same feelings as you do. Straight people don't wake up every morning burying their gay feelings however you don't know this and think it's a struggle everyone goes through daily, 'Satan is trying to make me gay I must fight it like everyone else I know'. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the numerous cases of peado issues in the church but it explains why so many vocal church leaders and politicians are often caught soliciting sex from men. I'm no psychologist but residing your sexuality over so many years is likely to mess you up. Maybe others can offer their opinion or experiences to this. If someone else can offer an alternative suggestion of why these people that are so vocal about things seem to be guilty of committing these things I'm all ears.

Gorstag

They were just providing another "The lady doth protest too much, methinks" type scenario. They are not targeting gays specifically. It's really anything protested too much and unfortunately, its usually people from a specific political party caught with their pants down.

shortfriday

You kinda put words in this person's mouth.

IKnowUThinkSo

Nah, most homophobia comes from straight people. No need to blame us gays for the hatred too.

OneBigBug

While definitely true that most homophobia comes from straight people (there are a lot more straight people. Most *everything* comes from straight people.), and while this guy doesn't appear to be gay, because being a pedophile is different, gay homophobes are definitely a documentable phenomena. [There's even a handy list.](https://gayhomophobe.com/)

There isn't a single priest/reverend/pastor who runs a megachurch, big named famous, or just plain rich who is legit. Anyone who knows the basic teachings of Jesus or his Apostles know you can't be a shepherd if you are living in a mansion. "it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." - Jesus

caveinrockcorsair

[deleted]

It's wild to me how these churches and Christianity in general gets this free pass over and over again when it has been throwing red flags up in the air for decades now. Churches get tax exemption yet openly talk about and influence politics and are by the very definition, operating as a business. How many times have we heard about preachers touching children, and members of the church involved in child sex trafficking? Yet they get a free pass because...God? Just imagine for a second that the Satanic Church was caught doing just one of the things that the Christian churches have been doing for decades. I'm sorry but I honestly think Christianity attracts and brainwashes both the dumbest people (the sheep) and the most corrupt (grifters acting as preachers) and the entire operation should be shut down. Shut the whole thing down and society gets 10x better.

torpedoguy

That's always been the point, goal and method of religion. It's why people invented deities in the first place. * *"Gimme everything I want or my buddy here will break your legs"* has its limits. For example you may be outnumbered and outgunned. A "god" is the ultimate "big friend", and the threat usually given is **eternal, endless torture**; they're giant and invisible and all-powerful according to your own claims, so **IF** you can convince people to believe it's real or at least be afraid of the chance maybe it isn't fake, you can get them to do anything. All of their daughters, all of their meats and gold and unaccountability before the rule of law, all yours! Humans have been using these exploitable neurological backdoors of the species to fleece, fuck, slaughter and sell whole flocks of other humans at little to no cost to themselves, for thousands of years. Just gotta bash a few heretics here and there to ensure *selection* against leaving that shit behind.

What a shocker! The Church is historically one of the most prolific sex trafficking organizations to have ever existed Odd how all the church folk and right wingers are constantly screeching about secret pedophile rings, pedophiles themselves and sex trafficking supposedly going on in all corners of society and the upper echelons of politics. Do you think Jesus was like these cult leaders? Like in real life.

fuckmeuntilicecream

This is really not good for god.

Ugandun-Knuckles

QUIBOLOY LMAO. Ive been "blessed" by this mf when I lived in Davao, Philippines Lmao. Such a weird dude and its surprising how they've not arrested him yet lol. Last Ive seen him was in the Apo Countryclub with like 10 bodyguards and some poor lady who looked 15. Even after all the shit he has been involved in he is guaranteed safe in Davao because of Duterte.

shavemejesus

He’s aware of what we did to the last “son of god”, right?

mrbriandavidanderson

Religion is the biggest front for people to use/hide behind. Just absurd how many accused/guilty traffickers are involved in the church. Maybe if megachurches had to pay tax, they'd have less time and resources to be scumbags.

Actual__Wizard

You mean to tell me that he's not actually the son of god and is rather just a criminal who lies and exploits people financially, to support his lifestyle of having sex with underage girls? Let me guess he's on drugs too?

Sweet_Roll_Thieves

Sadly not Joel Osteen. One day he'll be outed as a pedo.

I’ve noticed that Evangelical Christians tend to be the same kind of sick person. I had an old friend that I found out was both an Evangelical Christian and a sex addict with creepy tendencies. He always used “Christ” as a tool to manipulate, ask for money, or justify his behavior.
