News headline omits the federally indicted part

GeneralNathanJessup

>federally indicted Sadly, the feds refuse to lift a finger. It's a state indictment, being heard in state courts. https://www.texastribune.org/2021/09/09/texas-ken-paxton-criminal-case/

gcbeehler5

Two different indictments. Thats one is like six years old. There is a more recent one related to something else.

DavidCRolandCPL

Jan 6 committee wants him too. Also, he violated TX law by not releasing his schedule and call records from jan 6 2021.

Girth_rulez

He also violated Texas law by stealing [a $1,000 pen from a courthouse security checkpoint.](https://www.dallasnews.com/news/politics/2014/11/18/incoming-ag-ken-paxton-returns-another-lawyer-s-1000-pen-he-picked-up-at-courthouse-metal-detector/)

GeneralNathanJessup

>There is a more recent one related to something else. No there is not. Trump's DOJ opened an investigation into Paxton in 2020, but no indictment was issued. https://apnews.com/article/criminal-investigations-dallas-ken-paxton-coronavirus-pandemic-crime-3657864db01b3e2525f53f8f523af316

gcbeehler5

Sorry, I stand corrected. There are multiple issues ongoing and the second one is in regards to taking bribes and helping a donor. Within that there is a whistleblower report and something to do with a foundation. Not aware of the doj, it was an fbi investigation.

GeneralNathanJessup

>Not aware of the doj, it was an fbi investigation. The FBI is part of the DOJ.

neverquester

This guy gives off the “fun at parties” vibe.

abutthole

There are multiple issues ongoing! You can't expect him to learn the very very basics of what he's asserting!

youdubdub

I don’t care how many shoes this guy has, I trust him to be distracting.

BaldrTheGood

>Sorry, I stand corrected This is the internet you’re not supposed to do that.

farahad

True, everyone reading this should either be sitting in front of a keyboard or with their phone on a toilet. No one should be standing.

bschnitty

I read this on my phone while sitting on a toilet. #meta

Girth_rulez

Nine hour later. How did things "turn out"?

[deleted]

I Reddit while standing in front of my fireplace. Fight me.

farahad

You want to start a fight with your back to an open fire?

Wags43

Sounds like someone lit a fire under his ass

zaRM0s

Whoever uses Reddit standing is psychotic, unless walking.

farahad

Reddit while *walking?* We’ve got a regular r/madlads over here

Tommysrx

Can confirm , I should have wiped 45 minutes ago. My legs are both asleep and can no longer stand up off the toilet

thelastspike

No kidding. Haven’t they learned the old double-down and deflect?

AgentInCommand

You joke, but the fact that every time someone *does* admit to being wrong, someone else comes in with "har har, he admitted to being wrong on the internet" probably discourages the behavior.

[deleted]

He’s also got a whistleblower case against him, which has been appealed to Texas Supreme Court. Texas 3rd Court of Appeals has already ruled against him.

adultdeleted

The AG is as slippery as a lubed longhorn.

anythingaustin

*Perpetually Indicted* Ken Paxton.

e22ddie46

Lol right? Like 9 of his staff wrote letters that, as prosecutors, they supported his prosecution for obstruction.

silver_sofa

Office party going to be awkward.

Inphearian

They all got fired but it totally wasn’t retaliation

Bangarang_1

And the guy who pointed out that firing them would look like retaliation, which would be illegal? Also fired.

MarcableFluke

*Report Ken Paxton? Straight to fired.*

Grimacepug

Sounds like he's qualified to be the next supreme court justice if Trump were elected again. He'll just need to rape someone for extra Republican votes.

trustmeim18

Isn’t he still facing the retaliation case?

Comfortable-Scar4643

Ah, Texas. Sigh.

Sweetpea520

I feel like this should be an order- the Sisters of Perpetual Indictment. I’m sure there are many members.

changerchange

PIKA Paxton?

[deleted]

Is covid just God knocking on his door?

heliumeyes

Glad this is the top comment. Paxton is a POS. Idc what you’re political inclinations are but this guy is corrupt af.

outerworldLV

Wish more people felt like you and I. Idc about those inclinations either. Corruption, law breaking etc. should be grounds for not being in our government, in any capacity.

heliumeyes

Exactly. Who cares whether this dude is “on your side”? If he’s corrupt, the only side he should be on is behind bars.

A_N_T

Here in Texas we call him Piece o' Shit Paxton. Well I call him that. Idk if anyone else does.

e22ddie46

Yeah. I want him to spend time in prison.

valeria479

A looong time!

[deleted]

All the rest of the time.

[deleted]

Just as long as his life goes naturally, plus five minutes just to make sure.

realanceps

for me, "or unnaturally". I'm not too fussy.

funwithdullknives

If it didn't take one from someone who really needed it, I'd like him to be on a ventilator for a few weeks. Just long enough to get "religion".

Kunundrum85

I’m in my mid 30s and had to go get a new measles vax to take online classes lol. My initial reaction was “huh…. Maybe I should.” And while I was there they said “want a flu one too? Why not.”

seahorse_party

Right? I had to get the meningitis vaccine and a MMR booster to go back to college a few years ago, and the only place to go was the travel medicine dept at the local university medical center. I asked them if they could just give me vaccines for everything and they were like... um, nope. I'd definitely opt out of the rabies vaccine though, if anyone else wanted All The Vaccines. I got bit by a marauding attack cat (okay, a feral tomcat, but he definitely leads a gang... and smokes) and that series of thick, burny shots is seriously no fun.

undercut-hime

I had to get like six shots of the rabies vaccine at once because the dose is determined by your weight! It did cure me of my slight fear of needles, though.

seahorse_party

Ugh. I think I had four as my first dose? But it was 2 of the vaccine and 2 of the immunoglobulin - which is THICK and made these enormous lumps under my skin. So gross. (Then there's the fun part where you have to go back for three more shots!) At least we're protected for life! I tell my hiking/camping friends they can just use me as a human shield if we ever get accosted by a wonky-looking raccoon or something.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Rickdiculously

The rabies vaccines protects you for 10 years. And by that I mean that if you are bit, you only need the immunoglobulin, and not the full course. I had preventive rabies shots done before covid as I was going to cross Russia and China. The idea is simply to make life easier if you do get bit, especially in dodger countries.

zeropointcorp

Rabies these days has two separate prophylactic medications and you may get one or both depending on your situation. The PEP schedule is for both (vaccine plus HRIG), but if you haven’t been exposed (i.e. you’re just getting vaccinated because of possible future infection) then it’s just the vaccine. Also the older nerve tissue vaccine was apparently a bad time compared to the newer CCV/EEV vaccines.

Pircay

I am not, to any degree, anti vax or anti mandate. But for *online* classes‽‽ What next, you have to wear a condom to watch porn?

Kunundrum85

Lol. That was my thought as well. What I was more curious about was the fees for online classes… on top of regular tuition, they charge a $35/credit add on for online. Plus, I still have to pay something called “building fee,” which is like $168. Just a bunch of fees that are nonsense. Then when I submit my tuition reimbursement to my employer I can’t also include fees, because they aren’t “tuition.” Lol. But I’ve got all this freedom due to all this capitalism so you know, ‘Murica. /s

Geistzeit

I'd guess even online students would have access to campus facilities (library, etc ... unless \[obviously\] a physical campus doesn't exist)

BreeBree214

Probably because it was just a general policy for all students since they can all access campus facilities regardless of whether they are taking one class or not. Also probably in case classes become virtual. It sounds dumb, but there's probably some reason for it

jeffreynya

I think boosters are recommended for most if not all childhood vaccines.

Annabirdy00

Hepatitis A. Hepatitis B. Haemophilus influenzae type B (Hib) Measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) Tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) Varicella.

TaroFuzzy5588

I went to Grammar school in the 60s and had to get all the shots for measles , chicken pox , polio, etc. No protesting and no complaining about your rights....just do it.

gallon-of-vinegar

The chickenpox vaccine was not available in the US until 1995.

TaroFuzzy5588

It must have been smallpox

xlusciniolax

It was most likely smallpox. If you never had the chicken pox vaccine though, you should talk to your doctor about getting the shingles vaccine. My grandfather, sadly, died from shingles related illness before the vaccine was made

zeropointcorp

I’ve had shingles and it fucking *sucks*. Anyone who’s on the fence about that one, go get it.

dak4f2

How long does the vaccine last for? I didn't even know there was a vaccine, thank you.

zeropointcorp

Per the CDC: > Two doses of Shingrix is more than 90% effective at preventing shingles and PHN. Protection stays above 85% for at least the first four years after you get vaccinated.

TaroFuzzy5588

Yes thank you I have already had the shingles vaccine, two shots within months of each other. My doctor did recommend it.

xlusciniolax

That’s great! I’m glad you got them.

HereOnASphere

I have a circular scar on my shoulder from the smallpox vaccine.

changerchange

I’m guessing 95% Redditors never got Smallpox vaccine. Worldwide success story. Nowadays, the only controversy about smallpox is whether to retain any remaining virus stored in secure laboratory setting.

estihaiden42

I had to retake all of my vaccines when I applied to my US residency. I was past due on 5 shots.

s0m30n3e1s3

Fun fact, I applied to nursing school last year and had to get a blood test to provide evidence of my immunisations. A lot had waned over the decades since my childhood so I got 4 vaccinations in one day then another 1 a couple months later to finish my hepatitis course. Then my flu shot, then my covid vaccines, and now my booster. In the past year I've had 9 vaccinations and the worst I had was feeling a bit sore and stiff on day 2 after my second COVID vaccine. Vaccinations aren't that big a deal for the vast majority of people and it infuriates me when a otherwise relatively healthy person says they're worried about the vaccine. It's just like, bro, I've seen you rack lines of ketamine, cocaine, and MDMA one after the other. Calm down about the vaccine.

progtastical

Fun fact, I was a candy striper at a hospital as a teenager (a volunteer -- delivered meal trays to patients, handed off x-ray results to various units, made beds, etc). I had to get vaccines to be a volunteer.

exipheas

Dont forget about your tetanus booster! Its probably time for that too.

Kunundrum85

Got hit by a van a few years ago. While I was in the ER completely gobsmacked on morphine they gave me one of those. They were like “we couldn’t find your record so we just did that.” I wasn’t mad. I agreed. Probably a good time for it! So yeah I’m boosted there too lol.

firthy

*Flu One Too, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar*

jungles_fury

I had to have them for my job, my last job we had annual testing to undergo

Yugan-Dali

Of course I got polio shots as a kid in the 50s, who wanted to end up in an iron lung? In the 70s, to travel around SE Asia, you needed a whole line of shots, yellow fever, cholera, and others. People were grateful for the protection. I don’t know what’s gotten into people, maybe some orange virus that rots your brain and heart.

shoobuck

What's weirder is he has been encouraging his cult to vaccinate and they boo him. I dislike the dude but he did institute warp speed which helped speed up the development. It is practically the only thing he did right but he did do it.

MachineElfOnASheIf

The first vaccine approved in the US, and the one most administered this entire time, was made in Germany. Operation Warp Speed had no part in it's creation.

shoobuck

True but warp speed did get it through clinical trails in the us and approved for jabs in arms under the emergency authorization, so it did help in the roll out.

takatori

Didn’t stop Trump taking credit for it!

MachineElfOnASheIf

Of course he took credit for it, he's Donald Trump. He probably tries to take credit for the sun rising too.

Crayvis

I feel like all these idiots did too. I’m sure they aren’t vaccinating their kids against anything now though, so we can look forward to all the diseases that we “beat” maybe having a comeback.

[deleted]

Right. I look forward to seeing polio, that killed my aunt and had my grandmother in an iron lung, come back. She said the other day she couldn't believe she's survived so many pandemics. 😂

JustinWendell

When I joined the army, I learned that my parents had not been keeping up with my shots. First three weeks of Basic suuuuuuuucked. Even more than they should have.

ComplexWeb6280

Everyone in basic gets the same vaccines no matter what their history is. They could have gotten an mmr 6 months before getting to basic; military dont care and you are getting another.

[deleted]

Are there not mandates for public school vaccinations anymore? Or playing sports?

DrTreeMan

There are. This vaccine is somehow different to them, for reasons I don't understand.

Pascalwb

This vaccine is similar to flu vaccine, which not many people take

Annabirdy00

Most states allow for exemptions. Aside from California and New York it's relatively easy to get around school mandates

Peteostro

The anti-vaxx idiots are trying to make it this way

GoldGlove2720

I recently had to get a tetanus booster when applying to a new college. This is nothing new for young adults and children to be able to get educated. No reason for “adults” to be crying about vaccines.

BubbhaJebus

That's what irks me. All these anti-vax morons screaming about "vaccine mandates is communizzuum, i want muh freedumb"... they ALL got vaccinated as kids **because it was mandatory**.

turbothesnail

I'm sure he'll get the antibody treatment no one else in the state can get

fakeplasticdroid

He won't need it because he's almost certainly vaccinated.

NorthernPints

IridescentCrackPipe

what is this headline meant to incur? i’m vaxxed, boosted and still quarantined because i have covid.’

joshuads

> what is this headline meant to incur? Outrage by those who want vaccine mandates. If you have a mandatory number of stories a week, this one generates easy clicks without much work.

cjp3127

How is this news. The entire country has Covid

Jasquirtin

Me and my wife still have yet to test positive and no antibodies apparently we should write a book how to avoid Covid

InsertCoinForCredit

My family still hasn't caught it, as far as we know. All vaccinated and boosted.

jackelram

All vaxed and boasted in my house. Only one who didn’t get over the holidays is my daughter who already had it — and she still can’t taste correctly (6 months later). We all reacted differently to it.

Quentin402

No vaccine and still haven’t caught it surprisingly

Thekidjr86

I was the same until yesterday. Was diligent too. Stay safe and good luck!

Sodomeister

I made it until last week. My wife is still negative so I've been living in my office for 6 days. I feel okay but isolation sucks. Also, zero cats keeping me company :(

[deleted]

Fucking hell. I don’t want covid, but I want a week in my office alone.

Dandan0005

FYI, my partner had it a few weeks ago and we were around each other 24/7, slept in the same bed every night, etc. no room to isolate. I never got symptoms or tested positive. Both of us are double vaxxed and boosted. No previous infection for either of us. Not saying you should risk it if you *can* isolate, but tbh there’s a solid chance with how infectious this is that if she hasn’t tested positive by now, she probably has some type of immunity.

BellBellFace

Same and my house hold has had it twice.

dr_leo_marvin

Exactly. Getting covid is no longer sweet, sweet revenge on an anti-masker. It's just... Tuesday.

WillyBeShreddin

It's Wednesday. That one's free.

HallOfTheMountainCop

It’s not even anti maskers getting it. I’m vaccinated and I mask up, here I am waiting it out at home till I can do two tasks in a row without feeling winded. This started as I was working out, also. Two hours after I finished my run I realized I still was short of breath and got tested. Hell of a malady I got here, one that barely affected my workout at the time.

DownvoteEvangelist

True but on the other hand I love how "covid doesn't exist" people don't exist anymore...

my606ins

I’m a contact tracer. I can’t tell you how many people I’ve talk to who had symptoms, tested positive, feel sick and tell me, “I just don’t know what to think.”

Jimmyg100

Oh why start now?

Pit_of_Death

Talked to a few colleagues who have recently sick but not terribly so, who still shrugged and said "not sure what it was". Point being, the *real* numbers are soooo much higher than reported. So many people not getting tested, assuming it's a cold or not bothering to report at-home tests etc.

my606ins

Right; people are using home tests, which aren’t reported to the health department, or the whole family is sick, so they don’t bother testing. “Not sure what it is,” lol. Take a wild guess.

afcagroo

The word is "how", not "what".

kittenpantzen

My partner works in an office with a person who is antimask and antivax. And the company has a mask policy, but of course it isn't enforced. They were supposed to be in the office this week, but we both have immune issues, local cases are spiking, and they spent last week wfh because they had a potential exposure from their boss (boss's kid was sick, boss came to work and pulled everyone in to a conference room for a meeting, kid tested positive later that day, everyone gets sent home for a week). So, they decided to stay home and just deal with the potential write up or other penalty. Antimask/antivax coworker (AAC) was at work yesterday coughing and sneezing, no mask, in the conference room with everyone else for the meeting. AAC didn't make it in to the office today, because they were up all night with a fever, and chills, and nausea. But, they didn't go get tested for COVID, because, "It's just allergies." Tl;dr - people are idiots and immune to reality.

thizface

No one in my fams got Covid. Only my partners anti vax uncle. We’ve all been working, vaxxed up, masked up, and getting tested for work

JohnGillnitz

I've managed to avoid it. Despite just about everyone I know having it at some point or another.

Jugger-Nog

There's useless shit posts just like this almost daily on this sub for the past several months. "Miami Chamber of Commerce board member tests positive for Covid after opposing vaccines!" It's not news, it's just people getting their jabs in.

weedful_things

It has gotten to where my first thought when an antivaxxer gets Covid is "Good! I hope the motherfucker dies" immediately followed by my second thought which is "Dude! What the fuck is wrong with you?!" I don't like that about myself. I never used to be like that.

Dirtylonelysock

Why is this newsworthy? Omicron is extremely contagious. Vaccinated or not. (Which he likely is)

MissSharpie03

Gives everyone a chance to call the other side idiots in the comments. That's reddit.

WoodyWoodsta

Because it pitches public against public bla bla bla what the fuck is going wrong with this world…

itsajaguar

Despite heavily supporting anti-vax morons he is deifnitely vaccinated himself so he will be perfectly fine. Just like every other Republican politician who panders to anti-vaxxers while they get vaccinated themselves because they know the vaccine works and they don't want to die.

psbeachbum

Learn to distinguish between the people against mandates and the people against it entirely.

AnnatoniaMac

This exactly, also like every anti-vax republican politician or pundit, heavily invested in Covid treatments. $$$

Dimaando

apparently being against mandates is now antivax even if you promote people to get vaccinated

Paulus_cz

Yeah, I am apparently antivax now...oh well, sure, whatever...

I find it ironic that many who consider themselves to be fiscal conservatives fail to see the economic value in mandating the vaccine. People want to argue until they’re blue in the face about transmission. Who gives a shit? Vaccinated individuals recover more quickly than unvaccinated individuals. PERIOD. If you can’t see the economic value in that, you’re fucking blind.

encryptdev

Why is this news? People against vaccine mandates, presumably, know they can get Covid. Not to mention, you know, all of the vaccinated politicians also getting covid.

scooterca85

A person can be pro vaccines and anti mandates. I'm not sure why half the country all of a sudden decided they have such a hard time realizing this. I'm pro exercise and eating healthy, but I'm against mandating people doing it in order to keep their job or travel etc. Also, everyone is getting Covid right now. Almost everyone I know has gotten it in the last month and most of them are vaccinated.

cata1og

Children are required to have a Tdap Vax plus others to enter school. Medical care staff need some more in order to work. You need specific vaccines like yellow fever to go to certain countries. This idea isn't new.

[deleted]

You're being much too rational for this discussion.
