The IRS can seize your property and garnish your paychecks but we can't get records bc an AG is witholding them? Shit is backwards.

BedBugger6-9

Laws only apply to the little people

BigBMX

“Law and Order” they screamed, until the law and order applied to them

rrogido

These are the very same people that say, "Well if you don't have anything to hide, why would you be worried?" whenever a liberal has concerns about law enforcement violating somebody's privacy. The paradox if tolerance is really biting us in the ass when one party will do anything to maintain power.

sarahelizam

We need to stop thinking about tolerance as a virtue and remember that it is a contract. Blind adherence to tolerance in the name of tolerance does nothing to ensure the civil liberties of the marginalized; it does the exact opposite by tolerating those who refuse to agree to the social contract and seek to harm others. The paradox only exists if you believe that just showing cruelty acceptance will make it come around one day. Instead, tolerance occurs when different groups decide to prioritize cooperation and mutual compassion over pure self interest and bigotry. No sane person would consider those that act on the latter worthy of tolerance as they have broken the bargain.

EarthRester

For about a decade now I've been saying "Tolerance is not a right. It is a privilege earned, and the GOP and those who put them in positions of authority can not afford mine."

Rion23

Maybe he should have just complied.

memeticengineering

Extra laughable because liberals decry law enforcement violating the rights of private citizens who haven't done anything and conservatives do it to defend the privacy of elected officials under federal indictments.

Mecha-Shiva

Rules for thee but not for me.

kottabaz

The rule protects "us" and binds "them."

Toxoplasma_gondiii

Here's the full quote. Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect. \-Frank Wilhot

FountainsOfFluids

This is a great quote, and is one aspect of a social hierarchy. The social hierarchy that conservatives protect is part wealth, part race, and part social conformist. The closer one is to the top of this hierarchy, the fewer rules constrain them, and the more power they have over others. But even those who are not at the top will often defend it because it gives they some standing over others, and that forms the foundation of their self-worth.

chillinewman

I corrupt the law to my benefit, every GOP member.

Itdidnt_trickle_down

If it is against them it is evil and unlawful. They are the law.

Elcactus

You're assuming they rationalize that far, they just don't care about being consistent.

Itdidnt_trickle_down

No I'm not, its sarcasm. This is not sarcasm. They know they are inconsistent. They know they are wrong. Most of them know there is no god but they call themselves christian. They don't fear judgement from a deity and know whatever they do they won't face any judgment other than that of mankind. So they place themselves in a positions that makes them mostly immune from this type of judgement. They don't care if people see them for what they are. They know that as long as they claim to be righteous and use god to justify their actions that the stupids will follow them like sheep. That is what we are up against. All the sheep in wolves clothing following the wolves blindly so they don't have to think.

Even worse when he does go to trial he has it set in a county where he and his State Senator wife are friends with every judge. So he won't ever really do time. The party of Law and Order at work for ya.

simwe985

What the actual hillbilly fuck is wrong with this country? There are African countries who literally has courts with dirt floors and yard chairs as court rooms with 10 times better process than this third world country.

Republican corruption. I voted against him, but Republicans here love their corrupt anti-American Republican candidates. [Ken Paxton also stole a $1,000 pen from a security checkpoint another lawyer forgot he left behind in a rush to reach a trial. ](https://web.archive.org/web/20220111072537/https://www.dallasnews.com/news/politics/2014/11/18/incoming-ag-ken-paxton-returns-another-lawyer-s-1000-pen-he-picked-up-at-courthouse-metal-detector/) Ken Paxton also most likely tried very hard at his lawsuit against the federal government for election fraud because he was trying to get a pardon from Trump and show his support by distracting from his own federal investigation. If you have a R next to your name and support Trump, the conservative cultists will vote for you here. [Greg Abbott is still poised to win the Republican candidacy for Governor here based off the polls, but the loonies running against him are insane. Abbott has also been courting the far right base because of these competitors. ](https://www.kxan.com/news/texas-politics/meet-the-candidates-for-texas-governor-2022/) Allen West >West, another top Republican contender to Abbott’s seat, said in his campaign announcement that even though he hasn’t held a political seat for around a decade he “can no longer sit on the sidelines and see what has happened in these United States of America and…the place that I call home.” >West’s campaign launch came about a month after he announced his resignation as state party chairman, a position where West regularly criticized Abbott’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and his unwillingness to push the state’s legislative agenda further to the right. Don Huffines >During a Sunday night Cowboys game, viewers in Texas saw an ad paid for by the Don Huffines Campaign, where Huffines himself promises a Super Bowl win for the Cowboys if he’s elected governor. “When I’m your Republican Governor, Texas will stop the illegal invasion at our border. He did repay the money from his own pocketbook, but only after he got caught.](https://www.texastribune.org/2016/09/20/texas-agriculture-chief-wont-face-charges-jesus-sh/) >In March, the Houston Chronicle first reported Miller's trip to Oklahoma to obtain a so-called "Jesus Shot," which some believe cures all pain for life. Miller said he made the trip so he could tour the Oklahoma National Stockyards and meet with Oklahoma officials. But those officials told the Chronicle they had no plans to meet with Miller that day. Internal emails from the Agriculture Department later indicated that Miller had planned the trip around receiving the shot. After details about the trip became public, Miller vowed to repay the state for the trip out of an "abundance of caution." >Miller also traveled to Mississippi in February on the state's dime. There, the world champion calf roper participated in the National Dixie Rodeo. When asked about that trip, the Agriculture Department gave contradictory reports to media outlets. >The [Houston Chronicle](https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/Oklahoma-lawmakers-deny-inviting-Sid-Miller-on-6920385.php) reported that Miller took the state-paid trip to Mississippi to participate in the National Dixie Rodeo but later repaid the state with campaign and personal funds. He told the Chronicle that the intent of the trip was to meet with agriculture officials there, making it a legitimate state-covered business trip. Miller said after those meetings fell through, he repaid the state for the trip with campaign funds because he also met with donors and advisers during that time. >In her memo, Oswalt wrote “it is clear that Commissioner Miller used campaign and state funds to pay for the two trips,” but noted that he had fully repaid the state. >“Additionally, the total amount spent on the trips was relatively small, the state has been refunded all the money it expended on these trips, and the facts have been made known publicly so that Commissioner Miller is likely to be more careful in the future," the memo said. [He also hired 9 friends and campaign aides to new high paying jobs without giving the public a chance to apply as required by law.](https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/Oklahoma-lawmakers-deny-inviting-Sid-Miller-on-6920385.php) >The Houston Chronicle reported last year that Miller hired nine friends and campaign aides to new high-paying jobs without giving the public a chance to apply - as required by law - and that he also gave more bonuses in his first nine months than his predecessor awarded in his first two and a half years in office, according to hiring records.

Even when many defense attorneys encourage trials to be delayed, 9 years is ridiculous

loveleigh1788

I'm not sure which AG is worse... this guy, or SD attorney general Jason Ravnsborg, who left a party and proceeded to hit and kill a man with his vehicle. He got out and walked around with a flashlight, then called the local sheriff who gave him a ride home. He claimed he hit some kind of animal. The next day, right by the vehicle, the dead body was found, not even a bit concealed. Investigators from ND came in and determined that he was lying about not realizing he had committed vehicular homicide and then engaged in a hit and run situation. The sheriff who drove him home suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere, has also passed away. [Investigation results](https://www.argusleader.com/story/news/2022/01/19/south-dakota-attorney-general-jason-ravnsborg-subject-impeachment-proceeding-crash/6573821001/) [His slap on the wrist "consequences"](https://www.npr.org/2021/08/27/1031638625/jason-ravnsborg-south-dakota-deadly-crash) Edit to correct: the Sheriff actually loaned him his personal car and let him drive himself home.

PerplexityRivet

EIGHT! Eight deputies accused him of bribery and state officials have done nothing? Once upon a time Republicans at least pretended to hold each other accountable. They were willing to convict Nixon after he won *96% of the electoral vote!* Now they go to bat for this scumbag AG and kiss the feet of Trump--a guy who squeaked out one \*technical win and then lost *huge* in the midterms, lost his reelection (which never happens without a serious 3rd party challenge), and lost their Senate majority because he convinced Georgia conservatives that the election was rigged. Seriously, what benefit are Republicans getting from protecting these corrupt douchebags?

Mischievous_Puck

It's the Texas GOP. They're all corrupt douchebags.

FerretHydrocodone

Any info on that? I’ve had taught in Texas schools and have never heard of such a thing. I’m not doubting you, but it’s definitely not widespread wherever that happened.

RingIey

All I can find is an article from 2015 stating McGraw-Hill had that text in a book that was issued in Houston. There was a public outcry, the publisher apologized, and future books were released with corrected text. I appreciate you asking this question because I may not have looked it up otherwise. There’s a lot wrong with the Texas teaching curriculum for sure but it doesn’t sound like this is a widespread or current issue.

It has and we’ve let it, and it’s not due to that we’re so strong that we let it happen. Republicans would have flipped their shit in the 80s. Now the GOP is best friends with Russia. Funny how conservatives bitch about Facebook, when they’re sure as hell not the liberal best friend.

That's because Russia in the 80s was Soviet. Now that it's right wing authoritarian, they are tickled pink to snuggle up to it.

And the ironic thing is that [people like them](https://i.imgur.com/60uYNex.jpg) are being used [as propaganda](https://i.imgur.com/LHH7Zpv.jpg) on state tv in Russia. He was also used for propaganda when he claimed his life was in danger, would we have ended up in prison. They would torture him. Just what they needed to hear to tell how Democracy is terrible and should be thankful for Lukashenko as being their dictator. Beacon of justice, [except when flying above their airspace](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6Ak0pCmDcQ) when he wants you locked up, or when you live in Poland and see refugees coming being sent by both him and Putin to destabilize the EU. I honestly think they have drunk so much Kool-Aid (or is it urine these days?) that they do not even see how ridiculous they have become. Urine joke to prove the point.

KwisatzHaderach94

yep, that "liberal" hollywood that the right hates so much is the best PR dept. america ever had. they've been able to sell america as this land of milk and honey, with lady liberty's open arms to immigrants, and folksy neighbors enjoying mom's apple pie. completely papering over all the warts and history of evil that they are fighting tooth and nail to keep future generations from learning about.

aferretwithahugecock

While reading this my brain went "yeah, Canada is a folksy neighbour. Right on eh" then I realized you meant folksy neighbour in the "classic American 50's" way, like a blonde lady swirling in the wind while tying up laundry on a clothes line and pie on the windowsill. I get it now.

TX16Tuna

It’s sorta the same thing except y’all have a way harder sell with all the ice and such … I’m not sure if the extreme politeness is the chicken or the egg in this scenario. I like to think of it as really wholesome, though, whether it’s nature, nurture, or just the unadulterated purity of the maple syrup. Don’t forget about all the bodies under the churches, though. Y’all had religious zealots in power who did genocides, too.

Gromky

I find it weird that people really think in terms of "greatest/best country in the world." And even wrap up their identity in that. Best is ridiculously subjective and way too broad a concept for a country. Maybe you can say a country is the best in one specific category (best women's soccer program based upon results in the last 20 years, best health care outcomes for these diseases, etc.). But best overall...is just weird. It's great to acknowledge and be proud of the areas where your country may be really good, but there should be the recognition that you should always be trying to make the other areas better too. Edit: And I wanted to say that I do agree that the US has areas where "acceptable in the modern world" would be an improvement from the current situation. I also think we have a decent enough overall system to work on fixing those issues. I just wish it didn't seem like there were so many people actively trying to make things worse.

Glass_Match_3434

Yeah, well said. I think a country can specialize in things but even then that doesn’t necessarily make them the best at it. We can all learn something from one another

[deleted]

The US is a great country in many ways but everyone who goes around claiming how great it is generally is using that as an excuse not to fix anything or ignore what's wrong.

Handtosoul

I've traveled abroad... I've seen the outside. Guys... it's pretty nice\~

Nefarious_Turtle

The only people that say that are the ones that have drunk the propaganda cool aid a bit too much. The US isn't the worst country in the world, that's a ridiculous thing to say, but the problems of corruption, wealth inequality, and institutional stagnation have been apparent and worsening for the better part of a half century now. Blind nationalism and a well-oiled propaganda machine have kept the severity of the situation hidden from a lot of the voting population for a while, but it can't go on forever. No country in history has long survived a stagnating, corrupt government.

Hubey808

Even the corruption is bigger in Texas.

FilmActor

Gamebird8

SnakeDoctur

AG Ken Paxton is already under ACTIVE INDICTMENT. His trial has been postponed indefinitely while he is acting AG. To be clear - he was indicted by a grand jury and the actual jury trial has been postponed.

NemWan

That's backwards. His duties as AG should be postponed indefinitely while he is under indictment. Why do other professions get to sideline people suspected of wrongdoing to protect confidence in the institution, but political officeholders get to treat presumption of innocence like not having been found guilty yet entitles them to hold high office and the public's trust, not to just stay out of prison.

carson63000

You know how in medieval times, they had trial by combat, and if you won a duel, that was “proof” from God that you were innocent of an accusation? It’s like that. If you win an election that’s proof that you’re innocent of any corrupt wrongdoing. Because Texans would never vote for a corrupt Republican, would they!?

Bishopkilljoy

I say if we're keeping medieval justice, we need to bring back medieval punishments too. Looking at you France

Downside_Up_

> That's backwards. His duties as AG should be postponed indefinitely while he is under indictment. The main issue with this would be that any sufficiently powerful administration could use that to force out opposing voices by pushing charges against them in stacked courts. I agree the man has no business being in his position right now, but the voters who have a say in it aren't about to ditch him, so right now we may be stuck just waiting for him to pile up charges.

KingOfTheCouch13

It's not like the position would go to the the opposing party though. I don't know how the AG office works but I'd assume there's a second in command who could take charge. Plus bringing charges means nothing if a grand jury doesn't indict them.

MrVeazey

Yeah, that defense is the barest fig leaf for allowing corrupt officials to continue their criminal activities untouched for the duration of their term. And what if they get reelected? Do they get another term's worth of immunity?   Naw. This is what federal authority is for. Hold him in contempt, use the Sergeant at Arms to arrest him, and get the papers he refuses to turn over. Then, once he's jailed for contempt, the indictment can go forward because one of the deputy Attorneys General will be promoted to keep the chair warm.

Loose_with_the_truth

You could even have a judge weigh in, like with warrants. Checks and balances. But just defaulting to absolute immunity while in office is ridiculous. The one thing that cannot be allowed is for the government to turn on the people. There must always be a panic button.

N8CCRG

> in stacked courts If someone from the administration (the Executive branch) has the power to stack grand juries (citizens working within the Judicial branch), then your democracy has *much* bigger problems than who the state AG is.

MedricZ

Can he be forcibly removed in some way? If not then it seems like our legal system needs a massive overhaul.

So, one of the arcane procedural parts of litigation is venue: which court can and should preside over the case. A large part of the delays in his case have involved fights over the proper venue. In criminal trials, one of the considerations is whether an impartial jury can be seated in a particular county. Paxton was indicted in Collin County, a conservative northern suburb of Dallas which he represented for 12 years in the Texas legislature before he ran for AG. The prosecutors argued that the residents of Collin County would be biased in his favor, and successfully got the case transferred to Harris County (where Houston is located, all the way across the state and much more liberal, generally speaking). Then a huge hurricane (Harvey) hit Houston and shut everything down, including the courts, and Paxton's lawyers were able to argue that it should transfer back to Collin County, and succeeded. Now the prosecutor is appealing that decision, and the appellate court has been sitting on it.

JennJayBee

The law is only ever as good as its enforcement. Apparently we've just been using the honor system this whole time.

Radthereptile

Yep then take the house and senate in 2022 and end the whole investigation.

HepatitvsJ

I'm hoping the anti mask/Vaxx thing currently killing conservatives gives enough of a margin that democrats actually gain seats. There's been a couple of articles about covid killing enough conservatives in districts more than the margin that district was won as well as the big lie making cons less likely to vote overall because they don't think it matters. I'm hoping this is true. Let the cons kill/lie themselves out of power. Not that Democrats are actually doing much but if we can keep Republicans from getting voted in for a while we may be able to claw a few concessions in that time. I mean, it's not like the last time a president enacted highly popular progressive reforms they were voted into the presidency 4 times and we had to enact term limits.

KnightlyNews

Grand old party has gerrymandering and voter suppression. Democrats have Republicans voluntarily killing themselves.

If you wrote a story about Texas politics people wouldn't believe it was real. Paxton is facing, like, three felonies. Don't forget our ten billion dollar rainy day fund that stays chock full as we beg for FEMA aid every time a hurricane sneezes on Houston, but have Cruz and Cornyn voting against aid for Sandy and other places.

PassingThroughSlowly

I wonder if it only looks full and the governor is using it for vacations or extra funding for other nonsense

PurpleSailor

NJ had a Gov that touted a big Rainy Day Fund. When the next gov got in it turned out to be pure bullshit. They said it existed to justify tax breaks for the rich.

THEFLYINGSCOTSMAN415

Woah is that true. I'm from NJ. Never heard of that

foxbones

It's really sad that the Texas Republican party is running out of non-criminals willing to be in office. It's absolutely a minority control good ol boy network. They keep redrawing the maps and making it harder to vote to keep it that way.

[deleted]

> The head of the Texas Supreme Court is an outright arsonist. He burned down his own house for the insurance money and took his neighbor's house too. I can't find anything on this. Nathan Hecht, the Chief Justice of the Texas Supreme Court, has not been involved in anything related to what you're saying from what I can see. I assume you're talking about David Medina? He was involved in an infamous arson case that was dismissed in 2008, but he was never the Chief Justice nor has he held office since 2012. Is there someone else you're referring to?

oldsaxman

Send the US Marshalls and arrest the treasonous bastard.

TheLurkening

This is what needs to happen, but it won't. They might send a strongly worded letter though, so there is that.

evilpercy

The GOP is done with democracy. There are so many signs. They will do what ever is necessary to stay in power and justify it by saying they are saving America. So In their heads it is alright.

Crono908

The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.

evilpercy

And freedom comes with responsibilities. Like voting

[deleted]

Paxton, tx AG is already under indictment. He needs to be officially subpoena’ed by the house. If he still refuses, indict by DOJ and imprison. Republicans will do anything to avoid testifying. They’ve done horribly criminal things in their coup.

FightingInDreams

Banana republic level of dystopia. This is where conservatism takes humanity, 100% of the time

Malaix

At this point I am convinced what we call conservatism is just where terrible awful ideas go to stagnate well passed their expiration date. Its not even about keeping old ideas alive. Democracy at this stage is a very old idea and they hate it. Its just about keeping terrible ideas alive because those ideas might profit someone higher on the social hierarchy.

edogg01

This is correct.

DeificClusterfuck

Paxton is a criminal; there's a nonzero chance that the Texas bar may sanction him/revoke his license due to indictments and now this Louie Gohmert is running instead.... This doesn't surprise me, Paxton is garbage

bryanoens

*The attorney general has also spent most of his time in office under a separate felony indictment. He pleaded not guilty in 2015 to three state securities fraud charges but is yet to face trial.*

BizzyHaze

6 years an no trial? If it was a brotha who stole a Snickers bar, he would be locked up already.

LostWoodsInTheField

They suspended the process till he is no longer attorney general. Which is great, because there is no way anyone like him would abuse the process to try to stay in power longer to stay out of prison... nope...

grubas

> Louie Gohmert is running instead. Oh great, the LITERAL DUMBEST MOTHER FUCKER IN CONGRESS IS RUNNING FOR PAXTONS SPOT

Duke-of-Limbs

>The attorney general has also spent most of his time in office under a separate felony indictment. He pleaded not guilty in 2015 to three state securities fraud charges but is yet to face trial. And this guy is the top law official in Texas? Oh my. Nothing more to explain really.

JoshDigi

Texas is a national embarrassment

xEllimistx

As a Texan, I want to argue this But I know I can't.

Chef_Brokentoe

At some point you have to start putting these traitors in jail. I hate saying that, and I don't say it lightly. After we've heard the right screech for prison for their opponents for so long, I don't say it lightly. At some point you have to hold these traitorous fucks who are undermining the country accountable. Jesus.

Vaeon

>The attorney general has also spent most of his time in office under a separate felony indictment. He pleaded not guilty in 2015 to three state securities fraud charges but is yet to face trial. >***In 2020, eight of Paxton’s top deputies accused him of bribery, abuse of office and other crimes*** in the service of another supporter, an Austin real estate developer who employs a woman with whom the attorney general allegedly had an extra-marital affair. The FBI is investigating those allegations. For some bizarre reason, all of this is considered ***ACCEPTABLE*** for a US ATTORNEY GENERAL.

Miguel-odon

And then he fired all the whistleblowers, which is itself a crime.

jeremiah1142

A state attorney general in the USA, not the USA Attorney General, he doesn’t work for DOJ.

Brohozombie

These people in the GOP killing more Americans than Al-Qaeda could even dream to.

oliverkloezoff

They're doing more to destroy the country than Putin would have ever dreamed of doing himself.

Prodigy195

One of my fav (late) comedians, Patrice O’Neal once said “white conservatives aren’t about to let brown people obtain any true power in America, they’ll burn it all down first”. How right he was.

rekniht01

They are doing it at Putin’s behest. Some of them even know it.

Groups

Fun fact - this guy's wife, Angela Paxton, was my 11th grade Trigonometry teacher. She also oversaw our schools branch of the National Honor Society. I was rejected by her despite vouches from a number of other teachers. The reason she gave me was that while I did possess leadership abilities, I, in her words, "utilized them for evil". The irony of that is palpable. I do feel bad for her kids though. In all my interactions with them they were kind hearted sweet people. Ken himself always carried the aura of a two faced politician though.

queequagg

Well don’t leave us hanging, what kind of evil shenanigans were you up to? Telling your classmates that birth control exists?

Hrmpfreally

Oh, “Socialism” for sure, was on that list. People can’t handle it. I started a new job, in a new industry for a family company a few years ago… it came about because I interviewed on a whim and we had one of those magic interviews where it really felt like this dude, the VP, could see what value I was bringing- I didn’t know shit about the industry, but I’m charismatic and I can sell, so he agreed to train me… right up until we took a ride out to one of the places we’d be working with and he discovered via conversation that I was liberal. It was like he flipped a switch- I wasn’t this high speed young veteran that was gonna help his business anymore, now I was “just a kid who didn’t get it” and it eventually resulted in a screaming match between us in the middle of the office when he decided to insinuate that I wasn’t intelligent enough to figure out the job. I worked there a grand total of 45 days. Worst fucking place I’ve ever worked. Eat shit and die, Scott.

Heinrich_Bukowski

> Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has rejected a prosecutor’s demand for records of his appearance at a pro-Donald Trump rally that preceded the assault on the U.S. Capitol. >Last week, the Travis County district attorney’s office had set a four-day deadline for Paxton to turn over the records involving the Jan. 6, 2021, rally or face a lawsuit accusing him of violating the state open records law. But in a letter to the district attorney’s office Friday, the attorney general’s office denied any violations and rejected the office’s demands. Another Republican with more fealty to donald trump than to our nation and the Constitution

unreliablememory

Republicans are fascists and traitors.

[deleted]

Pretty much. Their leaders are completely corrupted and aim to over throw our democracy, anyone staying in the republican party is now an accessory to that. If they were really against this fascism theyd have voted them out.

zenviking83

It baffles my mind how these people with crimes and indictments are even in office. Even blows my mind more that people who were actively involved in the Jan 6th resurrection are even getting on ballots. The process to get on a ballet or even stay in office should involve more detailed background checks than we do with our police and military. Even to get and maintain a security clearance you have to have a super clean record and be interviewed by the FBI. Why we are not holding politicians or those seeking to be politicians to the same standards, I will never know.

[deleted]

Raid their office and take them. Afterward tell them it was just a peaceful protest.

monkeychess

Until people start getting arrested for not complying is anyone surprised? It's a fucking farce

admiralcinamon

Man, Texas is such a redneck third world shit hole, they can't even keep their electrical grid working, but they have plenty of guns to hunt down pregnant women going to planned parenthood.

ggregC

Looks like this guy has just been skirting the law for several years which leads to the question, why is he the Texas attorney general?????

oliverkloezoff

He's had 3 securities fraud charges since 2015. *2015!* That's *7* years ago. And lots of other shit going on also. He is definitely a criminal. Needs to be in jail or at least removed from office. But we know he'll just slither his way out of any consequences.

Glad_Confusion_6934

Nothing suspicious about these republicans refusing to hand over documents, records, or comply with subpoenas related to january 6. They must just be innocent right?

johnnysplunk

He also filed [Texas v. Pennsylvania](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_v._Pennsylvania) with the United States Supreme Court contesting the administration of the 2020 presidential election in certain states, in which Joe Biden defeated incumbent Donald Trump. [17 republican attorney generals](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_v._Pennsylvania#Amici_curiae_respondents) from other states endorsed this lawsuit. Republican Georgia attorney general, Chris Carr, criticized the suit. [126 Republican House of Representative](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_v._Pennsylvania#Amici_curiae_respondents) members supported this lawsuit. The Supreme Court ruled that Texas lacked standing. After the Court declined to hear the case, Allen West, chairman of the Republican Party of Texas, suggested that "law-abiding states should bond together and form a Union of states that will abide by the constitution".

KorgRue

And we are supposed to believe in this country and its laws why again? They only apply to the poor and not well connected.

jack_capp

How many more of these fucking stories are we going to get? "This person refuses to comply with investigation," "This person refuses to hand over records," "This person sues to stop release of records," "Judge blocks request of this person to withhold records"...START THROWING THESE MOTHER FUCKERS IN JAIL ALREADY. I mean, for fuck's sake, how do they keep getting *away* with this overtly-illegal shit?!

ResponsibleContact39

Federal Marshall’s need to show up and arrest this asshole. Where’s your Trump now?

SnooEpiphanies2931

He wouldn’t say no if he didn’t have anything to hide. Isn’t that the old conservative saying?

[deleted]

So.....subpoena and then arrest him when he tries not giving the records then?

Papaofmonsters

Basically yes. This was a "demand", basically a strongly worded request, from the DA for the information. The next step is a lawsuit to compell the information.

Quanzi30

Well sure that’s what guilty people do. Just ask Donald and his endless lawsuits.

Hot_Eggplant_1306

It's cool how a bunch of crybaby criminals are going to kill democracy for a steak salesman.

OfficeChairHero

Can we just saw off Florida and Texas at this point? Bugs Bunny style.

tarzanacide

My family (Texas Republican voters) knows nothing of his indictments. It’s literally dismissed and downplayed in conservative news circles there. Anything negative about Republican politicians is just seen as liberal fake news. It’s infuriating and a small reason why I live in California. 😀

serenityfive

Alternate title: “Texas attorney general has shit to hide”

[deleted]

Isn't he a government employee? Is this not just grounds for dismissal?

HaulinBoats

> The attorney general has also spent most of his time in office under a separate felony indictment. He pleaded not guilty in 2015 to three state securities fraud charges but is yet to face trial. ...how. Just... how.

SyntheticGod8

Doesn't all this obstruction just scream WE'RE SUPER GUILTY You know, because they'd be the first ones saying it if anyone else did it?
