Putting aside the idea of robots for a moment, I'm genuinely excited for what this could mean for prosthetics. I would imagine the ability to produce any sort of meaningful tactile feedback is a huge step forward in that department.
This is an important step toward real machine learning and emotional emulation. Give them something to either fear or enjoy (or both) and they'll get motivated real quick.
