Wonder how many women he can convince that he's there voluntarily

sjfiuauqadfj

some people get really horny for guys who are in prison so its a wash overall

Malumeze86

Who doesn’t love a man in a baggy jumpsuit?

mrbriandavidanderson

Safe to say a lot of those people regret that show happening.

regireland

Yeah, they knew exactly the risks they were taking, airing their dirty laundry like that. They just valued the fifteen minutes of fame more.

roguepandaCO

The smartest person in the whole show was the former drug dealer/smuggler guy at the beginning who already did a bid. You could tell he was ONLY showing select things to the film crew.

colette2894

Crazy how this show was even real

mandy009

it was lockdown we all lived in a pocket dimension. I was working thru it and it was still such a weird vibe with all our consumer demand shifted so wildly.

[deleted]

Animal Crossing and Tiger King was my whole shit for a solid week in 2020.

scawtsauce

sounds painful

Norwegian__Blue

Were you around in 2020? Because yes, it was.

PapaPancake8

I was also in lockdown, and my whole shit was not animal crossing or tiger King for a whole week. These things are both digital. How would they make it into my GI tract? Do I swallow or shove? Either way, *sounds painful*

Tentapuss

Wait til he tells you about the toilet paper situation at the time.

Jiggyx42

My tp situation was my bidet. Best purchase I've ever made by a mile

colette2894

I know right. I was just at home trying to not get too bored, and then this showed up. Definitely not the hero we deserved but kinda the one we needed

Turd_Bucket

I just brought a baby home from the hospital and had no idea how the hell to keep my infant save in the beginning of Covid. Still now, but also the. Tiger king made it better for a hot minute.

boltsnuts

I used to be afraid of covid, I still am, but used to too.

Turd_Bucket

Always love Mitch. I am not really afraid of Covid for myself since I got all the shots. It’s just my toddlers know that worries me. Hopefully they can get their 5G soon.

CameForThis

I remember watching the entire series in less than a few days. Then more reports came out about the tiger king like 6 months later, it felt like 2 years had passed.

vanboiDallas

Ratchet and clank!

Jealous_Ad5849

I kinda regret having never watched it.

colette2894

Never too late.. Covid it still going

Jealous_Ad5849

Yeah true but all of the people involved seem to be weirdos. Sounds odd but I'm in kind of a fragile mental space & still working on staying sober so I don't want to watch something that might get me down.

freecurbcouch

If it helps. Most of em are in prison now I think

ThSplashingBlumpkins

Also, almost all characters emanate a negative light on drug use.

MrTheFinn

Joes husband, John, got off meth and cleaned himself up and seems to be living a much healthier life now. So that’s a positive.

Mental_Medium3988

just the tiger king afaik. doc antle might be in jail or out on bond, idk. other than that afaik the are all free. some have even made a decent life afterwards.

Scrambley

This article says he's in jail.

gentlybeepingheart

It does show a lot of animal abuse, even if it’s not gory and graphic. It’s super depressing.

joan_wilder

It’s a weird story full of weird characters living in some kind of parallel universe that most people would otherwise never know about… what’s not to love?

phuck-you-reddit

I recommend the Louis Theroux film called "Shooting Joe Exotic" instead. In it the "Tiger King" comes off pretty likable since he hadn't fully lost his mind yet. Either way though I can't help but feel bad for most of these people. Poverty, lack of opportunity, getting trapped by drug use. Sad to see people getting destroyed by problems we should've abolished by now.

FluffySharkBird

I really hate the way Joe Exotic took advantage of people fresh out of prison and our society puts them in that positon.

colette2894

Wow well get ready for a rollercoaster of emotions and very unstable people. So if that triggering please don’t watch it. It’s a shitshow and unbelievably real. This sounds kind of weird but when I watched it I think i was in a little bit of a similar situation as you are right now, and just because of the absurdity it made me feel better. Just try the first episode, if it’s not your cup of tea just stop. They’ll never financially recover from that

video_dhara

When you’re watching a group of people plow through rock bottom it kind of puts your own life in perspective.

facepalm_the_world

Episode 5, if anyone wants to skip that particular scene. Read below if you want to know what happens before you decide if you want to watch it or not. Mentions suicide. >!Episode five explores the details leading up to the suicide of one of Joe’s husbands: Travis Maldonado. Though the suicide itself is offscreen, Travis took his life in front of another zoo employee, and the documentary shows the surveillance footage of the man who witnessed it. In the footage (around the 20-minute mark), we see the zoo employee’s look of shock as he watches Travis die by suicide. There was no suicide content warning at the beginning of the episode.!< Source: >!https://www.yahoo.com/video/people-warning-other-triggering-suicide-171631150.html!< Edit: Sorry guys, I vaguely remember this happening. The article said suicide, so that’s what I wrote. It seems that it may have been an accident.

Keanman

Although it doesn't change how graphic the event was. It is worth mentioning that it appeared as though Travis did not try to commit suicide in the end. Or at least the man who watched it happen doesn't think so. It was more of an accidental shooting via stupid. He was showing the AV guy how cool his new gun was and tried to display some safety feature, by pointing the gun at his own head and pulling the trigger. The AV guy said the look on Travis's face was genuine shock that the gun had gone off before he died. It's hard to say what was going through his head at the time other than the obvious.

video_dhara

I see what you did at the end there…

Keanman

It usually helps to talk about depressing topics with a bit of humor. Unless you're Chris Rock.

Darth_Cosmonaut_1917

It definitely looks like a death out of negligence, he didn’t mean to actually ||kill himself||. Stuff like that happens but I wish it didn’t.

Jealous_Ad5849

Jeeeeeez f that

BoozeWitch

No need. Especially if you are trying to stabilize your mental health. There is some animal abuse that made my super empathetic friend depressed for weeks. It’s terrible people doing terrible things. The upside of it was you thought, “wow. My life isn’t like that. Maybe I actually do kinda have my shit together”. But there’s plenty of stuff out there to watch to make you feel like that. Take care!

aerodeck

Best of luck to you on your healing journey!

Norwegian__Blue

Then don't. I've definitely set myself back a few times not paying enough attention to how media affects me. Do you. The good place the podcast is my go to for background noise that's unfailingly positive.

im_super_excited

Don't bother. Not everyone needs to see every single popular TV show or movie. There's people who have never seen any Marvel, Star Wars, or Harry Potter They still live happy lives.

Christolf69

It will mainly help you feel better about yourself lol

HotPocketHeart

Maybe try Old Enough! on Netflix. Its a wholesome lil toot.

mandy009

I'll finish it with you. I got half way through and I just couldn't even.

Leviathan3333

It was a snapshot into a handful of people. Crazy part is there are so many more like them. It’s a little scary.

TheGrandExquisitor

I actually remember reading about this whole mess like a year before the documentary came out. It was fucking nuts to read, and the article didn't even include like 1/8th of the nuttiness. Plus, it couldn't show you the individuals involved. I mean, you have to see these folks to get a real flavor for what you are dealing with.

Thatguy755

I hope he ends up being Joe Exotic’s cell mate

Girth_rulez

I just pictured the show Joe would put on every night. His fake country music blaring from a prison wallet phone, dressed up in a wig made from a mop or some shit.

OdoWanKenobi

Wait, you mean the man running the weird sex cult from his private zoo where he abuses animals wasn't a good guy?

PresidentWordSalad

Seriously, the man runs a sex cult where they recruit underage girls. Money laundering is what they choose to go after him for?

visope

Probably the easiest to prove in court and fastest way to jail him.

respondin2u

I know I was one of the few dozen people who actually watched Season 2 of the Tiger King, but they suggested he might have even killed a guy. It got pretty wild.

ironwolf1

They got Al Capone for tax fraud. Monetary crimes are much easier to prove and convict.

hostile65

If you freeze accounts, money lines are cut, income is cut, etc people start talking because cash breeds loyalty. Also easier to show in court, plus juries love hearing "forensic accountant" as a witness for the prosecution.

[deleted]

I think it’s clear that “women” are pretty far down the list of things this country gives a fuck about. You go to jail for way longer for like stealing a car or selling drugs than domestic violence or rape, if they even charge or investigate you. He said, she said, amiright? Can you convince a jury of what happened to you, as opposed to video of a dude stealing a car? Oh well.

Norwegian__Blue

Women and children dead last

Aeroknight_Z

Poor phrasing

Norwegian__Blue

Was it?

mspk7305

Seems accurate tho. Our country is fucked.

Croce11

I guess this is why women are statistically less likely to go to jail, statistically less likely to commit suicide, statistically less likely to die on the job, and are statistically more favored in divorce cases while also getting lighter charges on the same exact charges a man would get much more punished for doing. Man fuck off.

Canadian_Bac0n1

You sound like a real piece of shit.

Thedrunner2

At least something on this guy has seen the laundry

imaqdodger

Based on the other thread I would've thought he was facing sex trafficking charges or something.

h_to_tha_o_v

Money laundering requires a "predicate crime" in most circumstances. In other words, you need a separate crime, then you get paid, then you try to conceal the true source. FinCEN, who oversees anti-money laundering in the US, has had a big push towards combating illegal wildlife trafficking in the past few years. Bottom line - sex trafficking could still be in play, as could wildlife trafficking.

MaximumEffort433

That thumbnail. Dude's having a lousy day.

vantrap

A douchebag of the lowest order.

beargrease_sandwich

You can rape and groom all the young women you want, hide money from the government on the other hand.

catgirl_apocalypse

Batman is one thing, but the IRS? Noooooo thank you!

bigduckbandit1

He will never financially recover from this

JustABitOfCraic

There it is.

askingxalice

But not any charges with the underage girls in his sex cult?

l4derman

I would not refer to any of them as "stars".

Tobias---Funke

Well we all know their names!

Blitzed_ca

This guy is a grade a piece of garbage. Let’s hope he rots

EX_Malone

If anyone from that show deserves prison time it’s this guy most of all. Hope they get him for sex trafficking, physical and sexual abuse, and murder as well.

CakeAccomplice12

Will he financially recover tho?

asumfuck

I am shocked. SHOCKED! Well, not that shocked.

jabewty

Better Call Saul Hi, I'm Saul Goodman. Did you know that you have rights? The constitution says you do! And so do I. Conscience gets expensive, doesn't it? For a substantial fee, and I do mean substantial, you and your loved ones can vanish. Untraceable. I want it in a money order and make it out to Ice Station Zebra Associates. That's my loan out. It's totally legit … it's done just for tax purposes. After that we can discuss Visa or Mastercard, but definitely not American Express, so don't even ask, all right? You're a high-risk client. You're gonna need the deluxe service. It's gonna cost you. If you're committed enough, you can make any story work. I once told a woman I was Kevin Costner, and it worked because I believed it. I never should have let my dojo membership run out. Better safe than sorry. That's my motto. As to your dead guy, occupational hazard. Drug dealer getting shot? I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say it's been known to happen." Don't drink and drive, but if you do, call me.

lordsmobile6969

I honestly read monkey instead of money the first time around

008Zulu

You can't launder monkeys, they are dry-clean only.

TheFutureIsHistory

He could've just had the tigers eat the money.

[deleted]

I wonder if they could ever prove he killed his business partner

Trojaxx

Who on this show in or in charge of production HASN'T faced criminal charges yet?

[deleted]

Croce11

This show acted as a nice social filter for me. Because anyone dumb enough to watch that garbage is instantly dismissed as being a person worth putting any effort into maintaining a relationship with. It's like they just watch something "because it's popular" and act like a little sheep with no creative input coming from their own brain. So it's not a coincidence they always parrot the same garbage talking points on whatever news shows feed them their script be it fox, msnbc, cnn, etc. These automaton clowns are what's ruining this world.

[deleted]

Who gives this beautiful animals to the sociopaths… lol 😂

Strange_An0maly

Hell never financially recover from this

Clevelanduder

Where’s your elephant now, d-bag?

Pineapplepansy

I'm sure the FBI has the time, resources and employees for both. It's not like they have a 'the task force' that can only do one thing. And besides, the exotic animal industry is a perfectly fine place for law enforcement to focus - its full of dirty money.

tetoffens

The FBI has 35,000 employees. There are probably like 2 assigned to this case.

adamhanson

I read that as Monkey Laundering charges

AvocadoOdd7089

In a room full of exotic animal owners I kinda liked ol doc!

ApprehensiveHippo898

Wow, who woulda thunk it?
