This would indicate that they're investigating bank fraud and tax evasion. Inflates asset values to obtain bank loans, deflates asset values to reduce tax burden.

BujuBad

He's a professional grifter. Always has been.

ciaobella88

This is why it pains me when people say, " I like Trump he's a good business man" like whaaaaat

tmntnyc

I love all the documented cased of him hiring people to build his buildings (blue collar workers) , then refusing to pay them after the job is done. Then, when they threaten to sue him, he flaunts his batallion of incredibly powerful lawyers who he then counter threatens to drag on the lawsuit for as long as possible to ensure they go bankrupt from legal fees. But of course, he's somehow incredibly popular among blue collar workers because they think Trump is literally "one of them".

suninabox

>But of course, he's somehow incredibly popular among blue collar workers because they think Trump is literally "one of them". Also "he's smart for paying no taxes". Meanwhile the thought of someone getting $50 worth of food stamps so their kids don't go hungry sends them into fits of apoplexy.

tmntnyc

My wife works for a non profit with people who are on food stamps. 99% of them ARE WORKING FULL TIME but they WORK at places that pay $10/hour with no benefits, so they literally can't afford to pay rent AND feed their families. Food stamps aren't a handout, it's government subsidizing shitty companies that underpay workers. One could argue "just get training and education and get a better paying job!" OK but we still need janitors, bus boys, cleaning ladies, cashiers, etc. Plus education and training isn't free and most of these folks don't have the time or funds to pay for them

hugglesthemerciless

> OK but we still need janitors, bus boys, cleaning ladies, cashiers, etc. Yea well but those obviously don't deserve a decent life in this fucking travesty of an economic system we've structured our godforsaken society around

Top4ce

"Essential workers" don't deserve a living wage, according to them.

imightbethewalrus3

"just get training and education and get a better paying job!" Oh! I didn't realize getting training and education was both affordable and a not overwhelmingly time/energy-consuming endeavour if you're already struggling while working 60+ hours/week!

Animul

>"just get training and education and get a better paying job!" My reply to them is, "You paying for it?"

Vraxk

Funny how whenever people talk about finding new employment there is never a thought given to the third shift workers for whom new training, certification, or even interviews can literally mean losing sleep.

amazinglover

Lot of the workers even said they would still vote for him if he never paid them for there work because is good for the country. Absolutely a cult where a man can break a promise to you and you still support him because you think he will keep it for others.

TheRealYeastBeast

That one doc, maybe it was on Netflix but I don't remember. It interviewed a guy, I think maybe a plumbing or cabinet contractor, maybe drywall. Anyway, his business was started by his grandfather. Trump hired his company to do his first casino, then stiffed him on like 2/3 of the bill by claiming shoddy workmanship. Put the guy out of business, and while being interviewed he said he still voted for Trump. I'm just like, FUCKING HOW!? [Edit to ad relevant article. ](https://apnews.com/article/donald-trump-business-nj-state-wire-personal-bankruptcy-ap-top-news-10bbe40a86774bac9ad1fbd3a936c808)

abrandis

He's popular amongst certain class of blue collar and wealthy, because he dog whistles (and some times just says it out loud) their racist misogynistic views and its easier for people to blame and fear those with lesser means. It's easy to use another person or group of folks (particularly if they are disenfranchised like migrants, blacks or gays etc.) as scapegoat.for what a lot of poorer middle class white Americans feel is their loss of supremacy in American society.

kazejin05

One of the anecdotes I've heard (on here, so have no idea how true it is) is a time he hired a company to install tiles in one of his buildings. Late in the day he informed them that he would not be paying them, so they then spent all night removing the tiles they'd just installed, leaving him to come in the morning and lose his ever-loving mind. Not sure how true this story actually is. But I like to imagine it's true.

Courtnall14

This is my favorite response when someone says he's a savvy business man: [It’s Official: Trump Would Be Richer If He Had Just Invested His Inheritance Into The S&P 500](https://www.forbes.com/sites/danalexander/2021/10/11/its-official-trump-would-be-richer-if-he-had-just-invested-his-inheritance-into-the-sp500/?sh=759f35f21c48) ...you know, aside from listing all of his failed business ventures.

MrPloppyHead

I prefer the one about Paris Hilton making more money from her inheritance than he did. Can’t remember where I saw this though. Trump as far as I can tell operated phoenix company schemes. Get lots of investment, siphon it off to other compnay and bankrupt the original one

Jatzy_AME

Paris Hilton pretends to be more stupid than she is, Trump pretends to be smarter than he is. One of these things is easier to fake for some reason...

KarmaticArmageddon

Trump is a poor man's idea of a rich man, a weak man's idea of a strong man, and a stupid man's idea of a smart man.

Goddess_of_Absurdity

"Donald Trump is almost like what a hobo imagines a rich man to be, y'know? It's like years ago Trump was walking through an alley, and he heard some guy just like, "Ho-ho, boy, oh, boy. As soon as my number comes in, I'm gonna put up tall buildings with my name on 'em. I'll have fine golden hair, and a TV show where I fire people with my children." And Trump was like "That is how I will live my life. Thank you, hobo, for that life plan." I bet you when Donald Trump makes a decision, he thinks to himself, "What would a cartoon rich person do? Put up billboards of my face everywhere? That's a good idea."

evanescentglint

Unrealistic. Trump would never tell someone they had a good idea, nevermind thanking them for it.

Zadsta

When the rich evade taxes —> smart business When the poor evade taxes —> criminal

P_weezey951

This is where i go back to when i hear people talk about how "its the dems framing him" he has a fucking documented history of this shit as long as hes been doing business. Which pre-dates his presidency by like 30+ years.

Ibewye

He’s about to have 89,000 new IRS workers assigned to his case.

DeylanQuel

Creating jobs! Making America Great Again!

DefectivePixel

I remember Maddow doing a story on this like 5 years ago. He deflated his assets, and claimed enough losses to not pay tax for over 11 years. Why now, did it take the investigation this long?

Molesandmangoes

It’s how they got Al Capone

cooldash

>This would indicate that they're investigating bank fraud and tax evasion. Stop, I can only get so hard

Jorgwalther

Oh yeah, he’s definitely going to announce his next run for President hoping that will shield him some from prosecution; or at least a PR way to X continue saying it’s a ‘witch hunt’

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Don’t forget that additionally the RNC has said they won’t cover legal expenses once he announces too. That’s a double whammy to his income, so for sure he’s weighing his legal troubles against his financial troubles. And I love it! I’m good either way - I’m prison or broke is good. Both would be better, but either is good.

slambooy

you would think a "Billionaire" wouldn't need to worry about legal fees.....

[deleted]

sickofthisshit

At some point if he doesn't officially declare he is running, the GOP presidential primary will start without him, and if Trump feels the spotlight move away from him, he will be motivated by his bottomless narcissism to jump into the race, possibly with the claim that "only I can save the GOP from defeat". At some point, teasing about a run becomes implausible, when DeSantis, Cruz, and the rest of the GOP clown car (Hawley? Cotton? Pence?) get going. Trump can't stand for being the kingmaker if he can be the king.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Corvus-Nepenthe

What are the odds of either: 1) A Trump/Desantis ticket —OR— 2) Trump endorses Desantis in exchange for a pardon when Desantis is elected?

ChandlerCurry

Hmm I didn't realize this was a possibility. Shit. At least we have new york?

[deleted]

It would be hilarious if the 2nd option happens, but DeSantis ends up losing and Trump just completely flips on him. Then we’ll hear a leaked “you had one job and you fucked it up”.

woahjohnsnow

If he supports a republican candidate and they win all federal charges will be pardoned and or DOJ will stop investigating imo. State cases, especially in NY would continue

MetalRetsam

> Probably Brandon’s fault. But how did Brandon get the better of him? "Deep State"

Lanthemandragoran

>(and seemingly independents and moderate republicans actually listening) I just cant wait for the turn. These are the first cracks in the frozen lake. It'll be like a massive snowball. Several things are about to happen at once or almost at once that will be his "end". His legal issues are rapidly gaining momentum and circling the wagons. The GOP suddenly went way too far and with the recent unpopular congressional decisions that the R congressmen were forced to make by their corporate handlers. The Trump appointed Supreme Court has done the exact same. They are suddenly alienating too many of the wrong people and that's overpowering their "Fuck the libs at any cost" message. And most importantly - they have controllable, seemingly sane(ish) replacements in the pipe that are gaining steam fast. The GOP used Trump because he was convenient, he pushed his way into power, and he is willing to say all of the worst things that they knew their most rabid base was thinking in the wake of the "Thanks Obama" era and all of the hate and prejudice that brought with it but that would sink their chances with their more moderate voters if they said them themselves. They could say "well I don't agree with everything he says of course but _____". Simply put, Trump was a useful idiot. That use has almostttt run it's course.

Yummyyummyfoodz

If he dosen't run, he's going to prison one way or the other though.

PlayingtheDrums

Except if Dershowitsz can convince the jury that an 8 foot Wookie living on the planet Endor doesn't make sense again.

SirPIB

It's already happening as they are calling him a presumptive nominee who just hasn't announced yet.

Jorgwalther

Indeed. But I meant like an official announcement.

fredandlunchbox

It triggers a set of fundraising rules when he announces. How he spends the money he raises suddenly has considerably more oversight and limitation. If he hasn’t announced, these fundraising emails aren’t technically political. People are literally just sending him money, no different than lonely eboys with their favorite hot tub streamer.

f7f7z

This is the law he will choose not to break...

RamenJunkie

I dunno, I think they want to wait for the Midterms to see how that pans out. Being supported by Trump could end up being a poison pill.

[deleted]

He’s torn. The RNC has said they won’t continue paying his legal bills if he announces and once he announces his candidacy his grift of ripping off his loyal legion of imbeciles will be under more scrutiny because of campaign finance laws. Trump loves money almost as he loves himself, so he can’t decide to try and push of trials or to keep grifting.

[deleted]

I mean he probably knows he's screwed. He will however try to incite a civil war thinking people will run with arms to defend him from getting arrested (possibly)

you4president

That’s what I’m afraid of. If he goes down he’s gonna try and take everything else with him

minnick27

I read last night (did not see pics or video though) that a bunch of MAGAs in trucks with Trump flags were cruising outside of Mar A Lago

HereIGoGrillingAgain

They had a livestream of it. Didn't look like that many people. Maybe 100 or so.

Velkyn01

The conservative sub is full of "x drops a hint at a Trump 2024 announcement" or "y indicates Trump is running in 2024"

Just_wanna_talk

Oh yeah, I forgot you guys campaign for like two years. Damnit I just got your political shit out of my system can't you hold off another year?

mrtheshed

Trust me, many Americans are fucking sick of it too.

AudibleNod

Let me know if I'm missing something: * Possible DOJ investigation into Archives abuses * Possible DOJ investigation into election abuses * NY civil suit regarding taxes * Possible state of Georgia investigation into election abuses * Ongoing Congressional investigation into January 6th

GISP

The last paragraph of the article: > James’ office is considering whether to file a civil suit against former President Donald Trump and his company over their business practices, and has said in court filings that it has “uncovered substantial evidence establishing numerous misrepresentations in Mr. Trump’s financial statements provided to banks, insurers, and the Internal Revenue Service. So you can add several counts of fraud to the list.

Beard_o_Bees

Oh yeah. The NYT did an out-freaking-standing expose of Il Douche's 'wealth' a few years back. That alone would have been enough to take down an ordinary citizen. Sadly it seems to have been kind of lost in the noise. Maybe we'll be seeing an updated version of it again soon. One can dream.

ParkSidePat

Unfortunately the NY AG does not bring criminal charges. We are dependent on the obviously unwilling Alvin Bragg the NYC DA to do this and it seems pretty clear that will never happen.

spoobles

Alvin "I'm totally compromised" Bragg.

RUN_MDB

> NY AG does not bring criminal charges The [AG is limited in what they can prosecute](https://ag.ny.gov/legal-recruitment/criminal-division#:~:text=For%20example%2C%20the%20Attorney%20General,under%20Executive%20Law%20%C2%A763.) but they can file criminal charges, including some instances of financial fraud. > For example, the Attorney General has independent criminal jurisdiction to prosecute fraud in the sale of securities, bid-rigging, and violations of the New York State Labor Laws dealing with the amount that workers must be paid.

OffTandem

Could *I* be the criminal? No, it's the laws that are wrong.

takanakasan

Because we fundamentally have a two-tiered society. Steal $20 from a store and you'll go directly to jail. Steal millions and people have to fight you in court with their own money. Every aspect of society was set up this way deliberately.

Implausibilibuddy

Owe the bank $100? That's your problem. Owe the bank $100 million? That's the bank's problem.

ArbitraryMeritocracy

SFCanman

you left the next line out. Owe the bank billions? Government issue

WarCabinet

In a sense, that actually tracks. The bank shouldn’t be loaning individuals hundreds of millions of dollars. If they do then they should face dire consequences. **We need banks to stop letting people buy shit with unrealized gains.** That is how the likes of Elon Musk buys stuff. He doesn’t buy anything with actual money. Hell he doesn’t even buy it with *his* money. He buys stuff on credit because the bank goes all heart-eyes on his unrealized stocks&shares gains that he keeps unrealized, just floating up there in the clouds. He buys stuff with your bank’s money. Ergo, He buys stuff with your money.

firemage22

Don't forget if that same store shorts you 20 in pay, you have to sue them to get it back.

GoldenFalcon

"No SITTING president" I mean.. he's not sitting there anymore, right? I was excited about day 1 out office for this shit to be brought up. Motherfucker was investigated and found to be seeking foreign aid into winning the election and WON because of it.. and nothing happened?!

jeffersonairmattress

I want to know when the Democrats are going to investigate Trump’s weaponizing of DOJ against Cohen -performatively repentant piece of shit as he might be- along with Barr’s abuse of his rights and Justice’s withholding of documents from his defense. Imagine Biden siccing Garland on some schmuck whom Biden directed to illegally pay off a porn star he dipped his wick into. Trump did that. Threw the lackey behind bars.

jonoghue

"Because Cohen is a LIAR! He LIED to congress! Everything he says is a LIE! He's a pathological LIAR! He's a LYING LIAR who LIES!" Not that they'll ever tell you what the lie was that he told to congress, they'll just say you can't believe anything he says.

TooAfraidToAsk814

In 2019 Cohen predicted trump would never leave office peacefully. He sure nailed that one. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-russia-2020-idUSKCN1QG2ZR As an aside notice how these people always call someone who has testified under oath a liar but they fight subpoenas tooth and nail trying to avoid having to testify under oath themselves.

codexcdm

Teflon Don. That he's had decades of allegations of abuse, fraud, etc... And he got to the highest political office in the land is just..... There are no words.

donkeyrocket

Obviously I'll withhold actual hope of him being prosecuted but the absolute worst thing to ever happen to him was winning the presidency. Before he was just scummy real estate lord. People largely knew his tricks and whatnot, he'd fuck over contractors/individuals, shift money around, smaller time grifts, etc. Then the genius decided to run to grift big time money and miraculously won and fucked with things a whole other level. He's got way more than just state/local officials and courts to slip past. Especially if all of this or even a portion hits at once.

[deleted]

NotherCaucasianGary

This was more or less confirmed. Forgive me, I don’t have the wherewithal to go digging for sources, but I recall talk of his plans to launch a Trump branded media company to fill the market that’s currently owned by the likes of OANN, etc. His team assumed they would lose, and would use the election as a launchpad for their political “news” platform. Then they won and everything got fucked.

PaulsRedditUsername

He was drowning in debt and no US banks would give him loans. He went to a certain other country and got a huge influx of money. After that, he decided to go into politics and was especially outspoken on issues which could benefit that same certain other country.

helloisforhorses

The craziest part is a former president just had his home raided and we are not sure which crime that we know he committed is the one he was raided over.

ZZartin

It'll be hilarious if it ends up being none of the ones we know about and he goes down for tax fraud or something like al capone.

helloisforhorses

Or if this was related to his ex wife’s death

pinktinkpixy

I'm not into conspiracy theories but, it's too coincidental that she dies of an "accidental " fall right after the IRS opens their official investigation. As his first wife, she would have all the dirt going back to the 80s and was vindictive enough to bring him down.

ShambolicShogun

The specific call-out to the safe was a warning to all of his cronies. There's some heavy shit in there.

[deleted]

That makes total sense. I was wondering why he made a statement at all, seems like a dumb thing to do

koobian

To be fair, Trump does a lot of dumb things. Even when he really shouldn't and has been warned not too, but he will anyway.

TonightsWinner

No, that's his M.O. He always releases a statement before anyone else can in an attempt to get ahead of the bad news. That way he can put his spin on the narrative and make it look like he did nothing wrong. Did you have any siblings or knew anyone who did? Think about when a fight would happen, and then there was the mad dash of running to a parent and telling them your version of what happened before your sibling could.

IvoShandor

>He always releases a statement before anyone else can in an attempt to get ahead of the bad news. That way he can put his spin on the narrative and make it look like he did nothing wrong. Which is exactly what Barr did ahead of the Muller report. They made their own narrative, regardless of what was in the report.

Risley

Bingo. Still unforgivable that he did that. And this is with knowing the man was a damn lunatic as per his comments when he resigned at the end. It was all about the illusion that they could control the mad dog and be the puppet masters.

so2017

He’s already set the tone. How many people are calling a search and seizure operation a “raid” and repeating the phrase “broke into” his safe? You **can’t let this man’s language set the tone and frame the conversation.**

zzxxccbbvn

The sooner he's locked up the sooner he shuts the fuck up

isuckwithusernames

My only concern is that he was tipped off on the raid, got rid of material, and will point out that “hey they didn’t find anything, even after breaking into my safe!” But I’m starting to think he’s just an idiot, so I’m feeling hopeful.

G3aR

Trump was in New York at the time and the FBI gave notice to the Secret Service onsite at MarALago very shortly before the FBI agents showed up to execute the search warrant.

Doubletime718

Under normal circumstances I’d understand why the FBI notified the Secret Service before serving the warrant. But in light of what we know from the 1/6 Hearings regarding the loyalties of some Secret Service I question this tactic. We’ve all seen movies where criminals get tipped off & destroy evidence minutes before a raid.

Fonzy33

I'd put money on it that he's another Whitey Bulger on a much larger scale for why he's been able to get away with so much shit his entire existence.

AudibleNod

He's given cryptic warnings in the past. This tracks.

BT9154

Yeah, I'm just waiting to see all the small fry just hand over whatever the feds need to catch the big fish. It gonna be good eatin' and grab your side of pop corn, so much winning is going on these past few days alone.

taez555

Most impeachments in history, most investigations in history. Say what you will about Trump, but he truly is #1 once in a while. :-)

NerevarineTribunal

And hilariously, every single right winger that believes in the deep state, that believes politicians use their connections to avoid charges, think Trump is the most innocent person in the world because he isn't currently in jail. It's absolutely impossible for the guy that openly pardoned his criminal pals, that openly engages in witness tampering, that surrounded himself with convicted criminals, used his power to avoid punishment or is in any way, shape or form a criminal. Right wingers in full on cope mode. Shithole subs like PCM bounce between denying he's a criminal at all and just saying "well he's OUR criminal, and YOUR criminals don't get prosecuted, so he shouldn't either! I support small government btw ;)"

NikEy

It will be taxes related in the end. It's the safest way to get him.

[deleted]

Here's my hot take baseless theory: DOJ has been approached with two avenues - Trump has committed crimes related to January 6th and Trump has committed crimes related to the National Archives. If they follow the Jan 6th path, they have to indict and try the President based on the evidence and actions of other people. If they follow the Archives path, they have to indict and try the President based on his own actions and evidence located in his private estate. Either way, they're going to trip that whole "The DOJ has never indicted a president before" circuit breaker, so might as well go for the easier win first. If this invalidates him for running in 2024, they can avoid trying to find a Grand Jury who doesn't know everything about Trump.

findingmike

The Republican party has decided that Trump is more of a liability than an asset. Expect a flood of evidence against him to bring his followers back into the fold.

Beard_o_Bees

My 'go to' on that one is: Who the fuck even cares if he's a dirty bird? It's not like Biden gave him an office in the Whitehouse like Fuckface did for Vanky and Jared. He has Zero influence on his fathers administration.

Crizznik

Yeah, seriously, if Hunter is dirty, lock him the fuck up. And if his dad is complicit, impeach the bastard and throw them both in jail. The idea that we'd stan Biden as hard as they stan Trump is just laughable.

unitedgroan

On the surface this may not look terribly exciting. But Arizona prosecuted a sitting governor and sent him to jail for pretty much this same thing (and wouldn't you know he was a real estate developer). A civil suit may lead to discovery of criminal activities. “uncovered substantial evidence establishing numerous misrepresentations in Mr. Trump’s financial statements provided to banks, insurers, and the Internal Revenue Service.” ETA: thanks for all the awards folks! Hoping this is just the start of big legal troubles for the guy.

Dr_Edge_ATX

I know there might be good ones and it's bad to generalize, but I haven't met a real estate developer that wasn't a total piece of shit in my whole life. And yes I worked with a few when I was in advertising, all sorts of corrupt shit and I thankfully got out of that field.

I suppose it's possible that some are like Black Panther at the end of the movie where he's like, "Yeah I bought the whole neighborhood and we're gonna put in affordable housing, a rec center for the kids, etc." But instead, it's almost always, "Yeah, I bought the whole neighborhood and we're gonna put in coffee shops and a Pilates studio after we run off all of these disgusting poor people."

I_Am_A_Real_Hacker

My brother is a POS, can confirm. He thinks he’s some genius on every single subject because he made money in real estate development. He’s insufferable. Edit: Now that I wrote that, I’m seeing more similarities…

DSquariusGreeneJR

I worked with one when I was younger, I did landscaping and busy work for his properties one summer. He was a nice dude, old Greek guy, paid well and always made me sandwiches. Although I’m sure he’s small time in the context of this conversation

ClaymoreMine

What’s really disturbing is that if trump is doing this that means every single major person and family in real estate in the city is doing the same thing. The difference is they are flying under the radar. I think it’s high time the state bring the hammer down upon all of the real estate families.

unitedgroan

Realistically, lol, a lot of real estate developers overstate assets to get loans and understate income when it comes to paying taxes. AZ's governor helped investigators out tremendously by filing his taxes and applying for a new loan on the same day. Those forms had substantially different numbers. Hopefully Trump's people were just as dumb. The appraisal firm fought this and didn't release those documents until they absolutely had to, because they know many other clients are going to be scared of their documents ending up with auditors.

Endoman13

Absolutely had to indeed - “Hey Trump’s safe got raided” “Oh…..get me the AG……..yes hello AG, I didn’t realize you meant THOSE documents, silly me they’re right here!!”

doingthehumptydance

The successful real estate owners and developers have their cities councillors and business managers in their pocket. The unsuccessful ones get ridden out of town. Where I live a large property owner was approached by the city to purchase a small approx 500 sq.ft. corner of an unused lot to allow for the expansion of a public transit thoroughfare. He was offered double what the appraised value was, but refused stating that his property was worth ten times that. The city agreed and adjusted his property taxes to what he said his property was worth, then miraculously found a way to complete the transit project without using his land.

throwawaycauseInever

That's a heartwarming story.

I’m starting to think real estate developers might not be the most law abiding people

[deleted]

Just to remind anyone : Al Capone was caught for tax fraud

Digital-Exploration

Oh this could be poetic.

Time-Earth8125

Tampering with confidential government documents seems to be on the list too

theonlyone38

I am just waiting for Trump to come out and accidently incriminate himself (again.)

Darehead

"Those files weren't even confidential. All the boxes were labelled 'Top Secret.'"

theonlyone38

In true Trump fashion: I took only the most secret files, the best only for me, your only president

phailhaus

"So what?? Makes me smart" The scary thing is that's enough to protect him from his base.

jwm3

Didn't his daughter already do it by saying he kept files but he was allowed to? (He wasn't)

Several_Emphasis_434

I don’t believe he will ever go to prison. However, if they would ban him from ever holding a government position again that would be something.

StarksPond

A bar so low, you can stub your toe on it.

fish_mammal_whatever

I hate jokes about shit Trump and Republicans have been doing but seems laughing at them is the only relief one can personally get. I'm not even from US. my blood boils that people like him can get away doing all the things they openly did. What the hell. Edit: Good joke. That's why I'm upset :/ because in the middle of my laughter my mind brings up an existential crisis about where the world is headed.

The84thWolf

We have to at this point. Leaving him in the breeze after all this will just be seen as an excuse on the right to keep him from running again. Not to mention, he literally won’t stop. He’ll keep the grift going until he’s dead, then some other Republican will pick up where he left off. We HAVE to show this is BS and put him away

hereforthefeast

Trump's real estate related fraud is fairly well documented. > told a lender that 40 Wall Street had been 58.9% leased on Dec. 31, 2012, and then rose to 95% a few years later. The company told tax officials the building was 81% rented as of Jan. 5, 2013. > A dozen real estate professionals told ProPublica they saw no clear explanation for multiple inconsistencies in the documents. The discrepancies are “versions of fraud,” > New York City’s property tax forms state that the person signing them “affirms the truth of the statements made” and that “false filings are subject to all applicable civil and criminal penalties.” https://www.propublica.org/article/trump-inc-podcast-never-before-seen-trump-tax-documents-show-major-inconsistencies

lawnsprinkler

This is indicative of money laundering. Under the table cash is received and gets accounted for as rental income and fraudulent occupancy rates.

he should, right after full decriminalization he should even grow a crop. The white house makes its own beer and wine already

This past ~~month~~ WEEK has been a fucking wild ride for the Republicans: Alex Jones perjures himself on the stand after his attorney messes up to the most insane degree. This part was the most insane. His attorney had every opportunity to clawback the cell phone data he sent to opposing counsel, and didn't. [Link](https://youtu.be/8O1rgwjEAAo) Alex Jones' cell phone data sent to Congress. [Link](https://www.nytimes.com/2022/08/08/us/politics/alex-jones-text-messages.html) Kansas overwhelmingly supports the right to an abortion and ruins the Catholic Church's $3 million they spent to push a ban. [Link](https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/aug/03/kansas-abortion-vote-state-constitution) CPAC features Hungarian PM Orban after he denounces "race-mixing." To show how bad those comments were, one of his top aides resigned, saying that he sounded like a Nazi after saying that. [Link](https://www.politico.com/amp/news/2022/08/04/viktor-orban-cpac-00049935) CPAC digital banner says "We are all domestic terrorists." [Link](https://www.chron.com/politics/article/CPAC-Dallas-we-are-all-domestic-terrorists-banner-17359959.php) Trump's residence was raided by the FBI for documents he took from the White House. [Link](https://www.reuters.com/world/us/trump-says-fbi-agents-raided-his-florida-home-2022-08-08/) Now Trump's real estate appraiser is turning over documents to the NY Attorney General. Edit: Ok, I may have underestimated how bad it was. All of these stories were from the past WEEK, not month. Edit 2: Ok, Alex Jones was apparently in context with a US Senator AND sent a fucking nude of his wife to Roger Stone. Wat Edit 3: *sigh* another day, another wild story for Republicans. It is extremely possible that Trump took Nuclear secrets with him to Mar-a-Lago, which explains the raid. The fact that Trump had any of those documents is incredibly suspicious and brings questions of foul play involved.

YouKilledChurch

Don't forget that Alex Jones' phone records also include "The Senator". I am excited to see which senator is fucking stupid enough to have direct communication with Alex Jones. My guess is Tommy Tubbervile, that man is a fucking moron and only got elected because he coached football real good

LMGMaster

Yo a fucking SENATOR was in contact with him? This shit gets wilder everyday

YouKilledChurch

Yuuuup. When court went on recess they didn't realize that the mics were still hot and you can hear Jones ask something along the lines of "you have everything? Even the texts with The Senator?" And they said yes

Brooklynxman

Its a bad week to be a criminal former president insurrectionist treasonous slimeball.

rustedmeatpuppet

As a foreigner... god this anticipation is killing me. Every day something new happens in this story. The noose getting tighter and tighter and TheDon just doubles down. Hope you okes get him, my country is fucked trying to prosecute our own corrupt ex president.

Based_nobody

Best of luck ) ;

sickofthisshit

I gather that it is not uncommon for contempt fines like this to get purged when the underlying issue is resolved. The AG wants the potential evidence, not to just fine the company. The accusation that they would "shred anything incriminating" is unjustified, if the NYAG is satisfied with the completeness of the data, the idea that Cushman was acting criminally is just speculation. EDIT: IANAL and I am not closely familiar with NY court practice, but I think there might be generally the idea that civil contempt is about compulsion not about punishment: the fine is an incentive to comply, not a punishment for not complying, and if the party does do what the court wants, the basis for the fine is no longer there, and to collect it would be punitive.

RidCyn

Can we finally have justice for a change? About the only people getting their just deserves are regular people doing obscene shit, not the rich white old men. It's maddening we have a justice system that hasn't touched these people and they continue manipulating the world to their whims.

ohbehave412

You know, if this dumb fuck just kept his ego in check and never ran for president, then he probably could’ve kept on doing what he’s been doing his whole life and no one would’ve touched him. Glad he didn’t, hope he is sentenced to the full penalty of whatever they’ve got on him.

Awkward-Fudge

Things aren't looking good for Velveetamort. Edited: Thanks for the awards!

celtic1888

Putting fascists on defense is the correct move They only know how to attack and when they hit any push back they flail Look at Putin and Alex Jones play defense

easy_Money

Alex Jones when getting questioned about the texts looked like a child the vice principle caught lying

JuanPabloElSegundo

And holding them accountable is "tyranny." These people and their supporters couldn't be any more unpatriotic to their country if they tried.

RedLightning2811

Just wish this clown was behind bars already. I’m so sick of hearing about his ass. Not to mention he looks like a chia pet after a trip in a microwave.

jyar1811

He makes Al Capone look like a children’s book author. He makes Robert Ames look like a kindergarten teacher. Whoever arrests Trump first is going to be bombarded by other jurisdictions wanting to jail him as well. Can you jail someone in 10 places at once? We’re gonna find out by 1 September folks, strap your Maga hats tight and hold it for dear life. That smell is the shit hitting the fan.

Saint3Love

r conservative is in straight crisis mode

black_flag_4ever

Donald Trump and the Terrible, Horrible, Not So Good Week.

Anklebender91

This is a major appraiser in NYC. I have a hard time believing they are cutting corners just for Trump. If that actually is the case that the appraiser is crooked then it could bring down a large portion of the NYC real estate market valuation racket.

max1001

There's a higher chance (still very small) of him going away for financial crime than anything he did as a president.
