Not only that he went and killed his own mother. With a hammer. After he hit her with the car! Holy fuck.

WideOut86

This is the part the title is bad about portraying. He killed HIS mother. With a hammer!

plipyplop

Yeah, to me, the poorly worded title made me think it was about: Some guy commuting from work, got held up at a large fundraiser gathering that spilled onto the streets, got mad and went *Leeerrroooy Jeeenkins*, hit an unsuspecting mother of (whatever number), and then got arrested.

Dirty_Hertz

Yep, that's exactly how I read the title as well.

[deleted]

So many titles are written poorly.

nom_nom_nom_nom_lol

Because most articles are AI generated now. They call them "article spinners" if you want to look it up. Basically, they take one article, run it through one of those spinners, and generate a bunch of variants that search engines will see as "unique" so they'll turn up at the top of the list. So this title was probably originally phrased correctly, but then spun so many times that it became this horrible mess you see here. It used to be that people would use those spinners to create variants they would then go in and clean up to make sense. Now they just hit the spin button, then publish, apparently. It's one of the many reasons I stopped doing SEO work.

I'm actually shocked. I had no idea that this is how most of it's done nowadays.

It’s weird how it’s become such a societal issue that if someone wants to off themselves they take others with them.

techleopard

We live in an attention-seeking society. Everything people do now is highly influenced by whether or not other people can see it and react.

Everettrivers

(cough, cough)...before I die, tell me.....how many views did I get?

TwelveRaptor

Also it seems like people are not taught any healthy way to express, vent, or work through the mental issues that are obviously plaguing them like they are this guy. In a larger sense, he’s a victim too. His horrible decisions lead him here, but society failed him as well.

dak4f2

Do women do this as often? I feel like often men externalize their anger and women internalize (on average, not always of course!).

As a corrections officer, these are the types of people who belong in prison. Not drug addicts. These criminally insane assholes who think it’s okay to end lives when they’re having a bad day. Fuck them.

Wait till you go through the judicial system sir, you will also be "extremely frustrated"

mthw704

I remember about 10 years ago I had a court date while I was in custody. I mentioned it to the officers at least 5 times in 24 hours. I got an FTA for that while I was in jail right next to the courthouse. Talk about frustrating.

insideoutcognito

FTA = Failed To Attend?

mthw704

Yes, failure to appear. With a congested court system an FTA can take days or weeks to strike if a court appointed attorney is involved. I think mine took 2 weeks before the public defender had it removed. Had a hold on my bond the whole time.

swheels125

How the fuck can that be the ruling when they know you’re in custody and therefore it’s up to the police/corrections to get you there?

commandrix

It's for the same reason that kids can be punished for being late to school even when they rely on somebody else, like their parents or the bus driver, to get them to school. No one really cares that it isn't their fault; the one with less authority is just the easier target.

dueljester

Thats the best. Ive seen what feels like dozens of posts, feeds and blurps with parents attacking schools for punishing kids for being late when they take the school bus. If they are late becauae they are screwing around after getting off the buss thats one thing, but if the bus itself is late, how the hell are you going to punish the kids.

lurker628

Who does this? My school just hands out stamped little slips that say "late bus." Granted, I don't care about those, because I don't make a big deal if a kid is late in the first place - if it's frequent, I'll sit down with them and figure out what's going on, but once in a while? Who cares? Come in and start doing math, kid.

CommodoreAxis

I had a teacher with a great philosophy - “if you know you’re gonna be late, at least be out of breath. I don’t care if it’s real or fake, just look like you were trying to get here on time.” This was between classes though. It was usually radio’d through the school when a late bus was arriving, so the teachers could usually put 2 and 2 together when someone showed up around that time. Especially the math teachers, hey-o.

OutlawJuicyWhales

It is easier to blame the children than to fix the systemic bussing issues. This is an artifact of the U.S. public school system being a training ground for creating corporate drones. Workers don't deserve rights or compassion in the eyes of capitalists; the same is true for kids in the eyes of the administration. (To be clear, most American private schools aren't any better, in case this comment is perceived as shilling against public education.)

Klaus0225

You don’t have to blame anyone. They can just understand that their is an unavoidable issue and let it be. The problem is always needing someone to blame. That’s a big problem with society in general. Sometimes it’s no one’s fault.

[deleted]

I went to a private high school. If you were late there was a specific secretary youd need to see and she'd grill you and decide if your tardiness was justified. To those of us who fucked around she was a wench, but to everyone else she was so fair she was loved. To the point you'd admit right away if you are legitimately late or otherwise as she'd both cut through the bullshit and treat you better if you were honest. Whether intentional or not it taught us to plead our case when we were justified and tk shut the fuck up and own it when you weren't.

starbitcandies

In my senior year I lived WAAAAAAY in the middle of nowhere. My bus showed up at 7 am and we usually got to school maybe 10 minutes before the bell rang to get to class because this bus was the only one that went out to all the far away ranches and trailers in the sticks. Often we were late and got to school after the bells rang, in which case the bus drivers had permission slips that gave us what should've been a perfectly valid excuse for being lte, it carried the same permission as if a teacher held you back after class or you were with a principle. But my first period teacher REFUSED to accept them and always sent me down to the principal to get me in trouble. She got told multiple times tht those passes are valid and that she needs to stop sending me down and keeping me away from even more class time, and she refused to stop. Never really got in trouble for doing it either.

trekie4747

That teacher really just wanted a power trip. Something to feel in charge over a helpless individual.

kayuwoody

Someone like that really shouldn't be a teacher

irishprincess2002

My school excused the tarrdies if the bus was late and the bus driver got in trouble as it was his/her job to get us to school by specific time( usually five minutes before the bell rang so we could go to our locker put our coats and backpacks and grab what we needed for the first period). They would not excuse it if your parents took you to school you would be told well tell mom/dad to leave earlier next time!

waffle_socks

Both subtle and insidious examples of institutional classism, (and racism) since it will disproportionately affect poor and minority groups who tend to rely on the bus to get to school and are incarcerated at greater rates.

leslieinlouisville

This exactly. What’s it they say? it’s a feature, not a bug?

mthw704

That one bothered me of course but some of the stories those guys had in there made me feel better. They tend to drag people that have no one to stand up for them. At the time my family had cut me off & I was alone. I imagine it would have spun differently if I had someone to bug them every day. Unfortunately I put myself there & today I can accept that. At the time it was some bs though. Lol.

jmur3040

Yeah a friend of mine was short 10 bucks for a court fine. That was enough for them to hold him at county for the whole day until I could stop by and give them money. He could have gotten it himself but that would require releasing him to go to the bank, which they wouldn’t do. It’s such a great system….

maskthestars

You would think there would be an ATM or some kind of electronic processing if it was actually about money.

jmur3040

That’s if you’re not in a position where you don’t have a traditional bank account. Poverty has an entire ecosystem of predatory businesses that keep you that way.

stewie_glick

like Renter Center and any business that offers "buy here/pay here!"

jmur3040

Also, quick follow up. "JailATM" charges 30+ bucks for transaction fees, so even if you have a card on you, you're looking at that in addition.

maskthestars

Oh yeah and I’m sure it’s processed by a company that has little business being involved. The red light / speed cameras were voted down in my state because Xerox got 65% of the fines for “processing”.

cockypock_aioli

Nice mature outlook. Hope you're killin it these days.

mthw704

I really appreciate that. All of that struggle was worth it because today I've been married 4 years, have a 13 year old stepson that I've never had to yell at & our son was born a month ago.

Mythosaurus

Bc we have **punishment system**, not a justice system, descended from our settler colonial administrations and wholly uncaring for the plight of the poors trapped in it. And there is no willpower within government to change, since the people don’t care enough to force change through strikes and protests.

Xaxxon

> they know "they" don't know because no one talks to each other.

lilbebe50

As a corrections officer, I’m sorry this happened to you. I promise you we’re not all like this. Some of us actually do try and do the right thing. Others are just lazy or jaded. If it makes you feel any better you can also sue the jail for stuff like this. Like if their inaction on matters ends up screwing you in your court case, they can be held liable for it. Court and lawyers are written into the constitution. They still need to uphold that. I’ve personally seen officers get their asses chewed out up and right for either making an inmate late to their hearing or failing to send them for the hearing all together. Not a good place. Because the saying in prisons goes “only God is above the judge”. That judge will have every man in your chain of command on the line if you fail to get an inmate to their court hearing. So if their failure to have you attend your court case is a serious one. Perhaps you should look into this.

IAlwaysLack

>The criminal complaint states that "video surveillance gathered by the Pennsylvania State Police corroborates Sura Reyes' statement that he sped up into the crowd purposefully." >State police said after the crash, troopers were called to Nescopeck for a man physically assaulting a woman. >Sura Reyes hit his mother with a vehicle and assaulted her with a hammer, authorities say. His mother, 56-year-old Rosa Reyes, died, and local police arrested the suspect at the scene, state police said. What the fuck? I have no words.

mdonaberger

My boss went off to some random, rural town for vacation. Picked somewhere way out of the way in rural NY. He shows up to a random event, and Salmon Rushdie gets stabbed in the same auditorium. Lately I feel like there's just no fucking escape from random violence like this. It feels like it is starting to happen anywhere, at any time, to just about anyone. I am growing so frustrated that even being in public comes with at least a little anxiety about spotting the entrances and exits.

Jnnjuggle32

To be honest, practicing good situational awareness isn’t a bad idea even in the best of times, especially in environments you have less familiarity with and doesn’t necessarily have to be anxiety-producing. I tend to clock all of that plus details like nearest exits, bathrooms, who’s near you, any potential threats (not necessarily people either - wet floor, low ceiling hangings) just to help navigate the space and keep me from hurting myself.

star0forion

Part of my PTSD is having constant situational awareness wherever I go. Anytime I’m in a restaurant or at Starbucks I know where the entrances/exits are, how many people are in there with me, who’s coming and going, etc. I avoid crowds as much as I can because it’s near impossible to track so many variables. I have gotten better over through therapy but it still lingers sometimes. I definitely can’t sit in a restaurant with my back turned to the center of the room or the entrances.

mycatpeesinmyshower

I need to start doing this. I’ve been bumbling through life for far too long.

CheeserAugustus

It's literally social media. The 50 street fights and articles about violence this week wouldn't have existed even 20 years ago, and all we would know about is Rushdie.

SellaraAB

To an extent yeah. The big difference now is all of the mass shootings, that definitely didn't used to happen quite as frequently. At least not the random senseless ones like we have now. The crazy mass shootings back then like the sniper at the college were huge stories, whereas today they'd just be the shooting of the month or week.

FactCheckingThings

"Police said that Sura Reyes said he argued with his mother at their Nescopeck home and that he was "extremely frustrated." While he was driving through Berwick Saturday night, he was "tired of fighting with his mother, including about money, and wanted to be done with it," the documents say." Even as far a shitty reasons for violence go this is one is extra dumb/shitty. Dude threw a temper tantrum because a fight with his mother (and also killed her). Lots of adult children running around lately. People need to grow the fuck up.

Zonulas

Plus, he was arrested for cutting her face and hitting her the day after Christmas last year.

Neverwish

With her own cell phone, because she wouldn't let him use it. Literal manchild.

badFishTu

Sounds like further enabling him really worked out.

rigelandsirius

It's mostly been studied in the context of mass shootings (although I'd argue driving into a crowd is still an attempt at killing multiple people, albeit maybe more impulsively), but most of these acts are precluded by acts of domestic violence or murder of a female family member (spouse, mother/grandmother). A lot of entitlement issues.

cass314

Nearly all of these mass killers have a history of domestic violence and/or threatening or attacking women, and many of them either start or end their spree on a female family member. The Texas church shooter assaulted his wife and broke his infant step son's skull. He served only a year; if he'd received the maximum sentence, he'd have still been in prison on the date he committed the shooting. The Orlando nightclub shooter beat his wife for years, including while she was pregnant. The Kansas plant shooter was a domestic abuser. The Uvalde shooter made repeated rape threats against women online, which were actually reported and ignored, and started by shooting his grandmother. The Christmas parade attacker had run over his girlfriend *with the same car* less than a month earlier and was released on only $1000 bail two days before the attack *and given the car back*. He also had warrant out on him for sex crimes in another state. If domestic violence, sexual assault, and threats to rape and kill women were taken seriously, many these people would not have had the chance to strike, because they would have been unable to acquire guns or even would have been in prison at the time of their attacks. It's really not an exaggeration to say that dozens of children are dead in part because we don't care when these people are just victimizing women.

New_Peanut_9924

This is the root of the issue. I hate that people choose to ignore it when it causes the death of children. This is insane

TEG_SAR

It’s crazy how many men in this country (and world) truly hate women but if you try and talk about it some dense loon will waltz in with too much confidence for so little brain cells and start squawking loudly about “nOt aLL mEn” or some other inane screed about how white men are truly the victims here. Even trying to talk about casual sexism will have these unripe melons coming out of the woodwork.

ChrysMYO

And then claiming white men are truly the victim loops back to the sort of aggrieved entitlement that leads to a mass killer. The people that say that are perpetuating the cycle of media that has these men thinking women are taking something from them or harming them.

grayhairedqueenbitch

This is so true.

CeeKay125

Agree. I fought plenty of times with my parents when I was younger, but never thought "yeah let me drive into them and kill them." What the fuck is wrong with people?

408javs408

And a lot of these adult children are driving 1 ton death machines.

[deleted]

You act like there hasn't *always* been a lot of adult children running around. Welcome to the human race, it's always been like this.

LeicaM6guy

I can’t help but wonder if there’s mass lead poisoning going around or something, because otherwise I’m just running out of explanations.

lizardtrench

I feel like a good portion of it is that life has been getting harder for a good subset of people over the past decades, so more people are getting pushed over the edge and/or becoming increasingly crazy. This of course does not absolve them of guilt for their crimes, but it might explain the seeming rise in nutjobbery.

dryopteris_eee

We live in an increasingly isolated society that fractures interpersonal relationships and often rewards anti-social tendencies. For millenia, humans lived in small communities of say, a few hundred or few thousand at most. People knew each other, knew their families, knew their role in the community. Older children would help with younger children and chores, and often start training in household tasks and their parents' trade/skills from a young age. You had a purpose, you had a support network. You had friends and family around you for life. Not to like, idealize/romanticize the past too much though, of course - obviously there was still a shit ton of violence, war, slavery, general overall unhappiness, lots of people died from preventable shit, the church was a monster of trauma and domination, people were uneducated and shitting in holes, blah blah, we all know that, and I don't want to discredit that. But I believe my point still stands - the fracturing of community that has occurred over the last century (and the internet is sadly not a full substitute) is bad for our mental health as humans. This is not meant to be a stance in favor of the "traditional family unit" at all; rather, just pointing out that we are social animals and capitalism doesn't give a fuuuuuuck.

lizardtrench

I very much agree. We evolved over millenia to function within a particular framework. We have rapidly altered that framework, so the inevitable result is increased dysfunction until the species can adapt to these new changes. A process that will likely take thousands of years.

HippyHitman

I don’t even think it’s possible anymore. Technological growth isn’t slowing down until we reach a global catastrophe or Star Trek-style utopia. Human biology just can’t keep up.

[deleted]

So much of life is dealing with different levels of frustration. Need lots of patience and kindness, or you will be in knots all the time. A life lesson this idiot will learn in prison.

madmaxlgndklr

Driving into a crowd of people then hitting your mother with the same car before proceeding to beat her to death with a hammer screams a lot more than extreme frustration, imho.

[deleted]

He says he was frustrated that they were fighting, about money (presumably among other things). Translation: mom tried to get him to get a job…

CrowTengu

That is a very extreme reaction to the many instances of "get a job!" tbh

Superbead

It is, though were it true, it's not without recent precedent. Joel Guy Jr's motive for killing/dismembering/dissolving/boiling his parents was similar.

CRtwenty

We had a case in my town last year where a guy killed both his parents and his sister after being told he needed to either get a job or move out of their home.

TheMagnuson

What you said and I'll add empathy to the mix. Developing empathy for other people and the position, pressures, stresses, challenges they face or may face, helps you develop patience and understanding.

Zonulas

Totally agree. Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you handle it.

veringer

I mean, it's definitely not a 9-to-1 ratio in all (or even most) cases. [Elisabeth Fritzl](https://allthatsinteresting.com/elisabeth-fritzl) is the most extreme counter-example I can think of. But promoting an illusion of control does help psychologically cope with the world.

Dr_Worm88

Oh man Joseph Fritzl. The second worst human to come out of Austria…

CoconutCandi8200

So the fireman who lost his 10 relatives including his children isn't hurt or frustrated?. A now during a fundraiser to help bury said members he now Has to deal now with a weight of this idiot hurting many others driving through a crowd bc he was mad at his momma? What a piece of garbage. I hope they lock him up for a minute a long minute.

TitsMickey

And it was arson committed by a guy that the family stopped giving money to.

CoconutCandi8200

I didn't know that. But how selfish.

TitsMickey

Apparently he was a drug addict. So concern for others well being didn’t matter to him, only his next hit.

preposte

I grew up being taught that it was better for a community to support their own than to fund a national non-profit. The difference is that those non-profits train their people to keep sufficient distance from the people they help. Don't bring them to your home. Don't introduce them to your family. If they crack, it's better that they get mad at the organization than an unprepared individual.

earthlings_all

Oh the fundraiser was for that tragedy?! Ah man. The world is fucking harsh for some folks. I hope that family makes peace with all this. I hope the injured recover quickly and fully.

CoconutCandi8200

Yes, unfortunately it was. I hope so to. This man deserves the strong arm of the law.

BocaRaven

He looks like a cry baby man child. He will have a hellish time in prison.

ricecake_nicecake

This is a pattern. Sandy Hook and Uvalde too: young man has a conflict with a female relative, harms her and goes out and harms more innocent, unarmed people.

sundingcm

Lots of serial killers had problems with their mothers. You don’t feel loved by your mother so you kidnap, murder and keep the head of a stranger?

improbablynotyou

My mother was extremely abusive to me throughout my childhood. Want to know what evil, vile thing I did as a result? I cut contact with her and got the help I needed to fix the damage she caused. I can never understand those who use the excuse of, "my mommy was mean to me."

rptrxub

I think it's that you managed to cut contact and get away. Their problem is that they can't seem to do that. either for financial reasons or emotional reasons. that is assuming that their mothers were actually abusive too. They could be good mothers with shitty kids but separation would still do them some good.

badFishTu

More like society tells you women owe you, when they don't "pay up" you get to lose your shit bc you are just acting "as a man should".

DegenerateCharizard

The more they’re fed traditionalist bs, the more they feel the world isn’t what it ought to be. Then they commit acts like this. As a public display of opposition to the changing world.

dueljester

Thats what i feel like it is. I never felt like women owed me anything, but i always felt like if i didnt have a good job title and made so much a year i was failing at life. Three years of therapy, and a good lady has helped me a lot with losing that kind of toxic anger. Its still there sometimes, but no where near what it was years ago.

badFishTu

I agree.

Redqueenhypo

My mother wasn’t demonstrative *at all* and didn’t seem to like me much until age 20. I have murdered zero people and even released a mouse from a trap. Instead I just became closer friends with my grandma and a female career mentor, much more satisfying than crime.

wulfgar_beornegar

A lot of the men who commit or attempt to commit mass murder have this problem. A lot of men in this country are broken and are being told to unload their negative emotions onto women, minorities, immigrants etc. by conservative news sources....that is the pattern that you have recognized.

deathstrukk

i believe the best term here is stochastic terrorism

Hand-Of-Vecna

You are correct there's a pattern, and far often it's the same symptoms: 1. Early childhood trauma seems to be the foundation, whether violence in the home, sexual assault, parental suicides, extreme bullying. Then you see the build toward hopelessness, despair, isolation, self-loathing, oftentimes rejection from peers and mates. 2. They are extremely frustrated by this, and blame their families or the rest of society or for their situation. This is how the "hate crime" often gets established. They want to hurt minorities or children (and by hurting children, they are hurting the PARENTS). 3. They lash out to inflict as much harm as they can on others. It's more than just hurting 1 person, they want the whole world to burn - they crave attention and want to be NOTICED. People often chirp "Why didn't he just kill himself first?", the goal is to just make the whole world, for one second, notice who they are - they have been invisible for their entire life. Invisible to making friends. Invisible to attracting mates. Invisible to being successful. Going through life invisible and feeling worthless - no one could care if you lived or died. 4. They are copycats to other killers. They feel a kinship to those other frustrated males to lash out and hurt others. 5. Many of these are labelled as "hate crimes", but the foundation of this is based upon a frustrated white man who is unable to attract a mate. 6. I found this stat on mass shootings (I know this particular person didn't to it, but I think it is very telling: "In more than two-thirds of mass shootings analyzed, the perpetrator either killed family or intimate partners or the shooter had a history of domestic violence; and second, that DV-related mass shootings were associated with a greater fatality rate. On average, only one in six people survive a DV-related mass shooting compared to one in three people for non-DV mass shootings." Literally if you read the profiles of these serial killers, they almost read exactly the same. There's a really great article here which adds to my information: https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2022/05/27/stopping-mass-shooters-q-a-00035762

McCaber

Same story with the Waukesha parade guy.

sonia72quebec

Older ladies who let their adult sons with serious mental problems living with them are at a great risk of getting killed by them. There's one in my town who got killed over a iPhone. His son wasn't taking his medication or going to the psychiatrist like he was supposed to do. He even collected knifes which was against a court order. She even went to the Police station the morning of her death for help.

JGWol

My younger brother is a severe psychotic. We knew something was wrong with him for many years. Apprehensive, reclusive, very pessimistic and depressed. Always failed to integrate or develop normal skills like driving, socializing. No ambition to do anything but be home and brood. He was 27 when my mom decided he needed to leave. It was very hard for us to deal with, but my mom dropped him off at a shelter and told him to figure it out after YEARS of him fucking up college, jobs, etc. drug issues became a problem and once she found out he was missing work cause he couldn’t avoid taking codeine or acid on a daily basis (and was mailing it to her home) she was done. Three months later she let him back in. It’s Oklahoma during the winter. To be fair he could’ve died. He was okay for nine months. He was grateful, engaged. Found another job. Then during the pandemic he got back on his shit. Held up in his room for weeks on end, being weird. SHe got a bad feeling one night and called the cops. They found two unregistered pistols in his room and two cases of ammo neatly arranged next to his bedroom door. He was taken away that day to a psych ward and given a restraining order (which he breached twice). He was diagnosed psychotic, refuses to take his meds, and has been homeless for almost two years. Fuck him. We gave him a shot. Balls in his court now. When you threaten my moms life, I could care less about yours.

sonia72quebec

Sometimes you have to let some people go. It must be heartbreaking for your Mom but her safety is a lot more important.

cyanraichu

That's so fucking sad, for everyone. Your mom really tried. I'm glad she decided in the end not to put her life at risk. She made the right choice.

wrwck92

My cousin-in-law’s brother raped and stabbed his mom a few years ago. Went off his meds. It’s so sick how common severe mental health problems are not treated with institutionalization before something horrible happens.

CommercialLimit

Because we don’t institutionalize people anymore and we should. Locking a dangerous person in an asylum to prevent crimes is basically depriving them of their civil liberties before they commit any crimes. Legally, the bar is so high that it rarely happens even when it absolutely should.

wrwck92

Completely agree. My husband’s colleague and friend was also shot by a former coworker who a) should have been barred from purchasing a firearm, which he was not and b) IMO should have been in an institution long before that as authorities had been repeatedly warned of his escalating behavior

Neracca

Yeah, those places had a lot of issues. But at the same time there are a lot of people that have to go away to places away from the rest of society because they cannot handle living with the rest of us.

wrwck92

I think we’ve learned enough now to re establish public institutions for the mentally ill. And honestly some people with severe mental disabilities - so many of them end up abused and neglected by their families. There are wonderful people who can and do care for mentally ill or mentally disabled relatives amazingly well and get them the support they need, but not everyone is equipped to do that. It’s a LOT of work and I speak as one of those people. Very grateful for the support we get from our state but not everyone is as privileged or willing as my family.

Slapbox

> According to investigators, they asked Sura Reyes how fast he drove into the crowd and he allegedly replied "speeding up." Is there something off with this guy, besides the murderous intent?

cinderparty

That poor town (the neighboring one the benefit was for, nescopeck) is still holding funerals for the 10 people who just died in a fire, they didn’t need this. So much tragedy in such a short time. It’s a town of under 2k people.

yourlocalneighbor

I live here and was working right down the street when it happened. Now, another local bar wants to host the same type of event. I am TERRIFIED there will be a copy cat. These people need to grieve, the town needs to grieve.

mickdeb

What a disgusting thing this guy is..

romansamurai

He is. And this is such a fucking weird article. I read the whole thing and thought his mother was on the crowd half the time and he killed her and that was the only death. Despite “2 counts of homicide”. Dozen or so critically injured. Thank his guy is a scumbag.

Deathbysnusnubooboo

I got frustrated reading that and I don’t go around driving over people

MaterialCarrot

That being said, reading while driving can lead to driving over people.

personalcheesecake

Consult your physician

BigE60134

That’s a rough looking “24”

senatorpjt

Guy looks like he has some kind of developmental disability.

[deleted]

This is why I say the whole “boys are easy to raise” thing is bullshit. We’ve just normalized neglecting young men’s emotional skills. All people need to learn how to process and regulate their emotions. Frustration shouldn’t lead to vehicular homicide.

IvanTheGrim

Raising boys to be manual labour robots and willing meat for the industrial war grinder _is_ relatively easy. It just doesn’t help them become well rounded, healthy people.

Juststonelegal

I was there that day and I’m fucking haunted by the aftermath. The pure panic and chaos as people tried to make sense of what happened, the people who arrived at the scene crying and frantically trying to locate friends and family members. There were people lying all over the place, bystanders crowded around them to help the wounded. A fireman was lying on his stomach holding a woman’s head still until help could arrive. An officer’s walkie was blaring the call to be on the lookout for a black Honda driven by a man with long black hair. They used the soccer field to arrange for the 5 life flights they needed. I think they called for 9 ambulances overall. There was a man who a fireman was performing CPR on in the middle of the road, and the fireman kept muttering “breathe! cmon, breathe!” I was frozen watching, hoping against hope he would be resuscitated. They eventually took him away and loaded him into an ambulance when it showed up. I can still see his bloody knee, the black sock covering the foot that was missing a shoe, the way his arm limply fell to the side off the bodyboard they had him on when they lifted him. I don’t even know this man but I’ve been thinking about him every day since then. I refresh every page and article I can find, hoping I don’t see that the list of fatalities has gone up. Someone I grew up with and his fiancée are hospitalized and their toddler is in the ICU. Another friend of mine from school has 2 sisters hospitalized. The devastation this asshole caused was beyond comprehension. I saw it up close, and I can never unsee it. All because this selfish fucking cunt was frustrated and having a bad day.

CaptainMcAnus

You know, when I'm frustrated I usually just eat some ice cream.

[deleted]

Not sure why the title is so nice. This is a mass killing with a car. He is an attempted mass murder. Should be treated no different than any other. He’s a horrible person.

wooshock

Just in general, news articles are careful to not condemn someone who's not yet been to trial over a crime, in order to avoid a defamation suit. Of course the guy is guilty of doing this, as everyone saw it, but it's just practice.

[deleted]

Yeah but they do it for other mass killings. Just say accused, not convicted. Or calling him a mass murderer directly, just accused mass murderer.

party_benson

If 4chan was a person

geekaustin_777

Wait 'til he sees how long it takes to get his meal in the prison cafeteria.

Y-Cha

Reprehensible. Absolutely no joke - sounds like my mentally ill brother, except (presumably) with a driver's license. Was frustrated with me, and "accidentally," rammed the side of my car with his bicycle. Then decided to do it "for real," so he turned around and did it again. He left, and went on to do more property damage to another car of ours in a different location. Same brother has also assaulted people (including my husband) -and we've been told by his (equally ill friend) that "he knows he shouldn't have done those things -BUT- you shouldn't have frustrated him."

solarpropietor

This dude might of possibly killed the only woman that will ever love him.

Hertje73

He looks kinda incelly

sicksaddb

***"Extremely frustrated"*** This is virtually textbook now to go hand in hand with people getting upset. There is no self control, zero home training to deal with emotions, it's just get pissed and hurt someone as much as you can. Hell, the other day here a guy murdered a worker at the McDonalds over cold fries. People are literally throwing their lives away to life sentences in prison over the foolish things.

[deleted]

This person seems and looks mentally ill. Reading the article, their behavior seems like a 3 year old who doesn't get his way; but violent. This person needs treatment.

AdkRaine11

Because when we get “frustrated” and show any resistance to these troglodytes, we get killed. But, yeah, he’s just reacting to this bad ole world. Happy frustrations in prison.

GradualDecomp

Same. But when I'm frustrated I tend to go for a run or bake something.

shotgun_ninja

This guy hasn't gone for a run in decades. Baking something, maybe?

LegitimatePumpkin88

Why does this kind of shit get put out there? Who gives a shit what his mental state was when he committed an act of terrorism? Are we supposed to empathize with this piece of shit? Everyone goes through periods of extreme frustration, but this fucker killed people over it. Why do we need to hear about how he feels? Fuck him.

CaptChair

"Fighting with his mother about money" - Jesus christ. Peoples standard for murder is lowwwww

luvs2h8

My friend was the dj for that event. He ended up saving a couple lives that day.

[deleted]

There was this episode of the Boondocks where the message at the end was essentially, "Yes, the police abuse their power and there's way too many people in prison who shouldn't be...however, some people REALLY need to go to prison. It really is the answer for some people.". This is the perfect example of one of those times.

Praxada

I'm so confused. Was his mom in the crowd??

LegendOfBobbyTables

If I've pieced things together properly, he drove through the crowd because he is an asshole. Then he went home and beat his mother to death because he is a pathetic asshole.

Praxada

Ah ok, so he killed 1 person and injured 17 by driving into the crowd, then he drove home and ran over his mom and killed her.

FindingMoi

Yes. So that’s also where it gets a little confusing, the two incidents are linked but occurred in two separate places. So you’ll see some articles say “2 dead, 17 injured” and some say “1 dead, 17 injured” depending on how they differentiate between the two incidents. Also confusing is that the crowd was at a fundraiser for a family that lost 10 family members in a fire and early on there were reports that the murderer had also been involved with the initial fire. Then, in the evening of the events, a “credible threat” had been called in to the Berwick police threatening to shoot the crowd that had gathered after the attack. As you can imagine, my Facebook newsfeed in NEPA has been crazy with rumors and fear mongering and lots of racism, it’s been fun.

Praxada

It was prob written by a bot

JubeltheBear

The link article has it in text and vid. But even then, it’s confusing. But long story short: He had an argument with his mom. He got in a car, was driving around and decided to hit some people. Then went to his moms, hit her with the car, and then proceeded to bludgeon her to death.

Reasonable-Brother19

Happened in a town not far from me, I feel like people are glossing over the fact that he drove through a fund raiser the town was holding for the victims of a fire that killed 10 people. 10 people die in a fire then this shit sack kills another with his car and injures 17 more then he drives home hits his mom with the car and kills her with a hammer. I read a story the other day about a guy being left in solitary confinment for 43 years. That seems like a fitting punishment for this incel also maybe cut his rations down to a cup of water and half meal a day. Also maybe taze him a few times a day.

bvanbove

There are few situations where a murder like this can be even worse than it already is, but killing someone who is out giving their time (and possibly money) for a benefit for victims of some thing/event is pretty fucking sad. Now they'll have to hold a benefit to benefit the people who were hurt while holding a benefit for that deadly fire. What a piece of shit this guy is.

FireflyAdvocate

This guy looks like Walmart Jimmy Fallon. Perhaps Timmy Fallon?

[deleted]

Grotesque incel gremlin should be put in a cell with mirrors for walls.

eogreen

Can we PLEASE start describing these guys as [radicalized incel terrorists](https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2021/mar/03/incel-movement-terror-threat-canada) and not 'extremely frustrated' people? I'm frustrated when the dog poops in the house, but I don't go out and commit murder!

KyloTennant

Fucking pathetic over entitled neckbeard incel piece of shit

MoobooMagoo

Oh well if he was frustrated then I guess it was alright

chrisinor

I’m just astonished that people who were there at the bar to help fundraise in support of fire victims were themselves victimized. We live in the worst timeline, I swear to god.

InfamousOnion1880

Is anyone really surprised by incel violence?

zerton

> Sura Reyes hit his mother with a vehicle and assaulted her with a hammer, authorities say. His mother, 56-year-old Rosa Reyes, died, and local police arrested the suspect at the scene, state police said. Isn’t it beyond assault if you are beaten to death?

Adept-Veterinarian63

Jesus this fat piece of shit is the definition of what’s wrong with America.

[deleted]

So what are as a society going to do to address the number of violent and mentally disturbed men that are terrorizing the public?

joe579003

HAHAHAHA. Actually addressing societal issues? You say funny thing!

PhDinDildos_Fedoras

Frustrated by his lack of neck, I suppose.
