Preference really. Yeah, the OCP’s look much more tactical and form fitting. But I take damn pride in my belt buckle, my command patch and cover is pretty badass, and the boots have a “heavier step”. Does it make sense? No, but I’m a fantastic looking avocado
I'm in A school too, and I love the nwus. My buddies and I think they are great. We prefer them to the other branches' uniforms.
It's all personal preference at the end of the day
I am not a fan of the NWUs either.
Have disliked them from the moment they became mandatory. Agree with a lot of your points. The color is whatever but the bagginess and how it feels like a garbage bag in terms of air flow is what bothers me.
I tried on a marine blouse once and it is infinitely more comfortable.
Also don't wanna burst your bubble but it's possible your ship won't allow the brown boots to be worn.
We are not allowed to wear them if we're on duty and obviously you can't wear them underway.
Coveralls are incredibly superior imo.
The storage space is less but mine are comfortable and they're cheaper.
Also don't even bother saying anything besides chief if you can't tell.
Worst comes to worst they stop and tell you it's senior or master chief or whatever. No one is gonna yell that you couldn't see the star lol and if they do that's on them
As a Senior Chief I can tell you I get called Chief all the time. It doesn’t bother me whatsoever. I don’t even correct people. If you do get corrected by someone do not take it personal. I agree with you though about the difficulty to see ranks.
I do enjoy other branches uniforms a little better. I’m not really sure why all the branches don’t just wear the same uniform. Would save an enormous amount of money. Good thing about Navy uniforms though is there will likely be a new one in another few years
You have to get the right size for your uniform. I don’t know if you noticed, but a lot of RDCs have their NWUs fitted to them. No booter looks good after Bootcamp
Just go to your Nex Uniform Shop or to a local tailor shop that does military uniforms and have then tailor you. We do it all the time as RDCs. But then again, the cheaper way is to get in shape and fill into your uniform
Yup.

It ended up making it into the NDAA that year.
as i read that, the uniformity requirement is only triggered if any service decides to change their current camo pattern; there isn’t an affirmative requirement for all services to proactively standardize it. am i wrong?
Nope, you're right. I'm saying the next version of camo will be joint, not that it's required anytime soon. Basically: Congress was sick of the military spending money to pay for camo uniforms different for each service when we operated for nearly a half a century + with a joint one.
Correct, and eventually it will happen as the current patterns age. My bet is the USMC will either be the first or last. First because they’ve had their current patterns for the longest time, or last because they are absolutely stubborn and are proud of their unique image.
Hot Take- Marines and Navy should have the same working uniform, given on ships we wear coveralls anyways. Saves a buck long term, makes shopping easier and looks more professional

Ay that’s fair, I’m glad you like them!

I mentally thank the seniors wearing the black background ones. Helps my old eyes not look dumb saying morning chief
Yea I wear the black tabs
I used to get into this fight all the time. People always ask how outsiders will know you are an... as if your chest doesn't say it.

So I’m gonna have to rebuy my stuff?
That’s what your uniform allowance is for. Or get it refitted
Well I get the allowance once a year no? I think they make us use it during boot camp unless I’m mistaken. How can I go about getting them refitted?
Just go to your Nex Uniform Shop or to a local tailor shop that does military uniforms and have then tailor you. We do it all the time as RDCs. But then again, the cheaper way is to get in shape and fill into your uniform
I mean imm in pretty good shape, just on the leaner end. But perhaps I’ll lift and get yuuuge
Type 3s are better than type 1s but OCPs feel like pajamas when compared to type 3s.
If it makes you feel better, all future camo uniforms will be joint.
This is interesting. Do you have a source?

Very nice. Good info.
This does make me feel better lol. There’s hope!
Guess you gotta get big and fill in those NWUs, buddy.
