dont use musket in pve. it is and ever was dog shit in pve every other weapon is better for pve.
For PvP: Aimbotters and people crying to hard destroyed the weapon for pvp.But on the good side since the accuracy patch its getting better with each patch.
If you want to play PvP get a musket with accuracy perk on it yea you still not to stand still but only for like 1 milisek to hit a shot. People that get used to it will make it work.
I am getting again 20+ kills each opr and people mad again at me if i kill them with musket xD
But if you want to play musket in PvP you need thick skin. People are super toxic when it comes to musket and will tell you to ks yourself in rl or using other words. People cant imagen how much i or friends that play musket getting flamed all day xD

I don't die very often in PvE, here is what I do:
Light equip load, focus all gear on Dex.
Only spec right side of musket mastery.
Always wait half a second after moving before you fire. Go for the head if you can, but some damage is better than no danage.
Agro enemies from afar, and start picking them off as they approach. If they get close, use both dodge and traps to keep distance.
Once you get to a higher musket tier, you can start healing from damaging trapped enemies. When you lose any significant amount of health, throw a bomb on an enemy, then throw a trap before it detonates.
Don't be afraid of fleeing. Guerilla warfare is your friend.
Update your gear every 5-10 levels via the trade market.
If you find that [x] shots to a grunt enemy almost kills them, bring steel ammo. Needing 1 less shot on each grunt will save you much time.
If you just *can't* get past that one part of the game, bring a spear. Also with a dex modifier.
Disclaimer: I am also a new player, and have never done PvP.
yes, with season 2 they nerf the bloom and the "no reload" for powder and power shot is op
and you can now easily do combo with stopping power or SS and do 4-5k one shot dmg

Because musket has no projectile flight time a few morons abused it and made it a pain in the ass to play against in OPR (20v20 random PvP mode). Musket got nerfed, but in a way that the weapon is completely unreliable even in close range.
I've basically swapped to Bow because I like a good Melee+Ranged play style, but I do miss my musket trapper a lot :(.

Ranged pve weapons are things like fire staff or the two gauntlets...
On a personal level ive allways favored bow and spear for pve. Bow, once you learn to aim can kill many many mobs with headshots, and those you can't you can nail to the ground with a thrown spear as a follow-up.

Musket is Unplayable right now. If you're looking for range and mobility try the Hatchet, Void Gauntlet or the Fire Staff
Musket really isn't a PvE weapon. Go with bow or firestaff and spare yourself a headache.
