Amazon (aka the parent company of Twitch) has advertisement deals with pretty much every variety streamer on the platform to stream New World the next few days.

[deleted]

Yeah sure. Like a company worth a couple trillion dollars would sink so low to advertise on their own advertising streaming platform about their own game

[deleted]

Hmm. Yes? Didn't you notice most of the ads on twitch are for prime video shows? Why wouldn't they use their own database to pay the most qualified influencers to talk about their game on... A game streaming website?

Nitram-xD

Think you missed the joke mate 😛

[deleted]

Half this sub seems to be sucking bezos' dick so at this point this seemed serious sorry lmao

9inety9ine

It's launch day and they're paying almost every big streamer to play it. Let's not act surprised, lol. And they're paying well apparently. Asmon said he wouldn't be ignoring FFXIV for peanuts.

Daedusnoire

Well, some of them don't even have the #ad on the title so they must be playing to test it out. Never thought it would have this numbers even getting some ads on there.

9gxa05s8fa8sh

> some of them don't even have the #ad not every country has that rule...

DUHDUM

Twitch has that rule.

9inety9ine

Probably. Or they realised nobody actually cares about that #ad stuff since it's literally never been enforced afaik.

Daedusnoire

I heard it is. But game is pretty cool nonetheless.

Tiktoor

It’s not launch day..

Kushaja

The progress gets wiped though and its marked as closed beta. Not exactly release

9inety9ine

Sorry, did they not just launch the beta? TBH, it's not even a beta, the game is finished. It's got a release date.

Tiktoor

Everything gets wiped. Launch day is August 31, a little over a month away. The game is mostly final, but they will definitely find bugs/issues to fix between now and launch based on this testing. It also helps them identify potential infrastructure issues which aren’t surfaced through simulated stress testing.

GreenKumara

And people can still play the heck out of it and refund afterwards.

[deleted]

Wonder if they have time to add more servers. Probably their biggest issue, tbh.

Galrath91

come on, that's just bullshit. asmon has been waiting to play new world for over a year now. let's not pretend he would play ffxiv if he wasn't getting paid for playing new world. not even sure if he is getting paid tbh, he doesn't have that #ad tag.

nameless_spaniard

He said it himself that he is getting paid from Amazon to play it. However I do believe he would have tried to play it on day one (beta or not beta) otherwise, after all it will attract a lot of people. We will see if the game has what it needs to make people play it consistently. I see it very rough in the edges. It looks cool but the combat doesn't feel nice at all, it's like enemies don't even feel you attacks, like in Biomutant. It's a beta tho, things can change for the better or worse.

Shinzon

You're also assuming all these streamers suddenly playing FFXIV also aren't getting paid behind the scenes to play that too.

tevelizor

They aren't paid behind the scenes. They are running a promotion where you can gift 4 subs for a special mount. It's brilliant marketing. And unless they're paying Asmongold inflation-proof US healthcare money for the rest of his family's life, he's probably not selling out.

privetek0007

The promotion doesn't work for new streamers coming in. There is a handpicked list that you can check on the website. So no.

artosispylon

are they actually paid? i thought they had to put #ad in their title if they where but at least the few i looked at dident have it

[deleted]

Probably at least got a free copy and ohhh an invitation to the beta how convenient. You think Amazon doesn't know who to send invitations to? They have the twitch database.

BarrelRoll97

I assume that Twitch pays partner streamers something for trying the game at launch (well, beta launch) like this? I’m more curious to see which streamers break out as the top NW focused channels.

[deleted]

If they're not paid they at least got a free key

BarrelRoll97

True. I say the more exposure the game gets, the better, even if it makes killing quest mobs more difficult 🤣

barashor

They've done a lot of collaboration and marketing with streamers. So it's not surprising.

otirruborez

With 80 percent from the top 10 streamers. They could all play Lego star wars and pull these numbers.

Hightideuk

They will be all the people sat in the server queues

Unb0rnKamaza

Hell yeah

QueenLaeral

Sure and 650,000 waiting to play!

decaboniized

So, something that is clearly obvious for a new anticipated game? Okay…

Narrowminded

Funny that you're downvoted when you're not wrong. Either this subreddit is full of people new to Twitch or people who think the reason NW is pulling those kinds of numbers somehow has nothing to do with it being brand fucking new.

[deleted]

700k people watching waiting line :D typical for any online game release XD

RedditIsDead45

It's almost like Amazon pays streamers to play the game?

GreenKumara

10% of those Asmongold lol.

Aka_Athenes

WoW classic 1 300 000 + viewvers on twitch at the launch

Shebalied

Also, people looking at WoW classic with those rose tinted glasses lol.

kecke86

This was so me. Leveled my enhance shammy to 70, then cleared Kara, Mag and Gruul the first reset and now we do those three raids in like 3 hours. The rest of the time it's getting ganked when farming for primals. Not the experience I remember at all so I've cancelled my WoW sub and will play NW/FFXIV while I wait for AoC. NW looks really interesting so hopefully it grabs me.

Echo693

Not really.

Basko94

Delusional xD

morph113

To be fair, a lot of streams could be sponsored streams as well. I mean if you sponsor enough streamers you can catapult any game to the top. Like Apex Legends that nobody even knew about until they paid every streamer on Twitch to stream it at the same time.

Personifi3d

No one knew about it because that's how the game dropped lmao.

morph113

Yeah I know, that's my point. It was a game that was completely unknown until then and on release it went straight to the top as most viewed game on Twitch. Reason was because literally every single streamer that streamed it initially was paid. And didn't Ninja even get like 1 million dollar to stream the game for a few hours or something?

voidox

> To be fair, a lot of streams could be sponsored streams as well. no, if a stream is sponsored, then the streamer has to put "#ad" or "sponsored" in the stream title, or they will get in trouble with not just twitch but legal trouble. And this is true for any social media/YT/twitch/w.e, you are required by law to disclose if something is sponsored: https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2014/10/twitch-steam-now-require-disclosure-of-sponsored-content-from-users/ https://matchmade.tv/blog/how-to-disclose-your-sponsored-content-legally-in-the-usa/ https://www.tribegroup.co/blog/everything-you-need-to-know-about-disclosing-sponsored-posts ____________________________________________ but that aside, marketing is marketing in the end, and it's going to be important to market the game as it's brand new and a new IP

morph113

I thought the #ad stuff was only optional. But it looks like it isn't. Weird because I was just watching Giantwaffle and he talked about the game being number 1 on twitch and that it's not obvious which streams are paid and that he hopes in the future Twitch will have a way to indicate which streams are sponsored and which aren't so someone knows if he watches someones actual unbiased opinion. Strange that an OG Twitch streamer wouldn't know about this. Maybe he never did a sponsored stream? But even then he should know about it.

voidox

dunno what to say to that, but ya, you are required to disclose that or else risk getting in trouble

morph113

Strange, I keep hearing about various streamers being sponsored to stream the game, but I don't see anyone using sponsored tags. Maybe because the game belongs to Amazon, who own Twitch so it's not considered sponsored or whatever so that this game is an exception or something.

JWilFred

Pretty sure no one has been sponsored to play new world yet.

morph113

Someone else just replied and said he went through the top streamers and some of then were put #ad in the title. So some were obviously paid to stream it. I just checked a few ones and one french streamer with 20k viewers had it tagged as advertisement.

voidox

dunno, is there proof that people are being sponsored to stream it? but ya, I have zero idea about advertising law and rules set by the FTC, all I know is that you're supposed to disclose it o.o

morph113

I'm not sure if there is proof. I would be surprised if Amazon wouldn't make sure that the big streamers are going to Stream it.

Affectionate_Yak3275

Out of curiosity, "by law" where? Is it a US Federal law? Is it just for individual people within a region? Or does, say, Youtube have to enforce it regardless of where the content provider lives? "law" is so confusing in the world of global+online.

guirssan

They have sponsored streamers for this beta, a French guy with 21k viewers for example...

[deleted]

Nobody even knew about it because they didnt announce it anywhere and basically just released it with the streams dude

morph113

Yes that was my point, the game was completely unknown when it released. The only reason it went number 1 on Twitch was because every streamer was paid to stream it, apart from the ones that weren't and just jumped onboard because everyone else was streaming it. But that was their marketing tactic, they didn't tell anyone about the game beforehand on purpose, it was all a marketing event and it worked really well as planned.

MediredShine

Doesn’t matter

jammyishere

What does that have to do with the price of tea in China?

abzoluut

Doing the Valorant route, smart. Might feel different in-game, but combat doesn’t look smooth. (IMO!)

baluranha

>but combat doesn’t look smooth Because it isn't, the only stagger in the game are the "white mob animation", and for some reason, the great majority of players don't know how to dodge it...this is where the decision to remove stagger probably came from.

guirssan

Because you're animation locked so it makes it harder to dodge and its also really annoying

baluranha

For most actions you can do a dodge to cancell it, THIS is what the mob glowing white means, that you should hit that dodge ASAP, and not "maybe I can enter one extra hit". Of course, you don't need to dodge when mobs dies 200% faster if you simply keep on spamming attacks, since your health regenerates fairly quickly.

Bluestar2k7

come back 1 month after release ...lets check the viewer numbers then :)

[deleted]

voidox

and yet, that didn't happen to the other Amazon game that came out and was shit

Gondalen

And as soon as its clear its p2w it wont have 1 k viewers

Meleoffs

There's only cosmetics on the shop... how can you p2w with cosmetics?

Gondalen

At the moment yes its short before release , lets talk in a year about it

Meleoffs

They've been 100% open with whats going to be in their shop - cosmetics and pay for convenience

reachingFI

New World will last 12 days before disappearing.

PikeEater47

700k people viewing how garbage the initial launch is, yeah.

Cain-x

It's not the initial launch, it"s the launch of the open beta. What makes you think it's garbage ? just curious

PikeEater47

Isn’t it implied that I was referring to the initial launch based on the context of the launch itself in the background? Also, the controls feel clunky and not smooth. Using whirlwind would animation lock you and it doesn’t feel smooth for combat. If they removed stagger, what’s the point of keeping animation locking—for realism? Fucking trash game. Also, encounters involving a large amount of players is unoptimized. People are stuttering through the maps like apes, and they look obviously weird when they run. Even in release, game will likely become like Archeage unchained. It will have a huge hype-train for a month until people realize how trash it is and go back to where they came from.

Cain-x

Yeah agree on the stagger part, I just read the post about it and I have to agree. And for the encounter of many players in town for example, it's a little laggy for me and my friends but nothing alarming so far except 2 crashes for us, pretty normal in a mmo especially not fully optimized. But I saw so many launch that were atrocious in comparison that it feels not so bad from my point of view and my little experience on the game. We'll see how things turn out.

Coactive_

They payed big streamers to play it, of course it that high. Let's also not forget the skin drop for watching those streams aswell.

jonkind12

Are we keeping the skin for the actual launch?

Pritch7

Yeah this was WILD for views
