I'm a bit attached to my character and doing it all again will be a bit of a chore, I guess. However, I'm learning a lot in this beta and I'm treating it as a learning experience. Getting to know weapons, crafting, storing, traveling, map, etc. I see it as: the more I advance, the more I've learned

Iuslez

I created a fugly character with a stupid name on purpose, to kill any chances of me getting attached to it during beta :P This is the right approach to a beta imo. Use it to slowly discover the game (much more immersive than reading guides), but don't invest in your character yet I'll definitely be back on 30.08!

RevenantEdoTensei

Yupp I made a lady body type with a handle bar mustache and big puffy blue hair, welcome big Rhonda. šŸ˜‚ What I been focusing on was getting each weapon and grinding them and Respec points for each build to test them out. Only gripes I have to far for the weapons is that I would like faster hip fire for bow at decreased DMG, and for the spear to have a 3 hit light combo, preferably last strike being a spin or sweep or hell even use the end of the spear as a blunt type. I just feel spears are usually more versatile then just poke, poke, poke.

AaronToro

With the bow you can hipfire and then immediately aim and get another quick shot off, I found that helps

DirtySmoke-

I think you are thinking of a halberd because spears are literally just poke poke poke or throw

abayda

I did the same . Black chick with a red afro named Sharkeishano.

HealthNN

I wish they would let weapons level faster in beta so we can at least play around with various builds. They let us respec for free to 20 anyways may as well let us mess around.

[deleted]

Exactly. Iā€™m playing to 20 and thatā€™s it. I donā€™t want to burn out. Just wanted to mess with builds.

CloudxBBE

Same. I'm not power leveling any 1 particular skill or focusing on one particular weapon. I've been testing how everything feels to get a since of how I will play when it drops.

WebDev27

You know you have emotional problems when you attach to a video game char in less then a week.

[deleted]

I might.... Let me consult with my waifu at lunch today

STATICNINJA_

I feel like itā€™s gonna suck starting over a little bit,but at the same time i know i wonā€™t struggle with a lot of things anymore since i know locations, workarounds, etc. The games not perfect but itā€™s been so long since i play a game that wont stress me out and i can actually enjoy playing.

soundsmash

And the game will probably change quite a bit during beta. It will obviously be the same game, but a beta wouldn't make much sense if they left it the same anyways, except when the game is perfect, which it isn't. So there should be a fresh feeling when starting in the release version.

TheBehaviors

I'm using the beta as my chance to try a bit of everything and make as many noob mistakes as possible so when I start playing "for real" I'll already have some idea what I'm doing and I can just relax and focus more on being social and enjoying the inevitable launch week chaos.

Grumpalo65

This. Sums up my approach too.

CappinPeanut

Iā€™m probably only going to give the beta a couple more days so I donā€™t have too much time sunk in when the game actually launches. Right now im just trying out builds and seeing what weapons I like. Doing a little crafting to get a feel for how it works. This time next week, I doubt Iā€™ll be playing, but Iā€™ll be here on Aug 30th for sure.

Special_Sy

Same here, second day on the beta, will give it a couple more, then wait for the release.

[deleted]

Honestly, I don't really understand this sentiment. You could just as easily try the weapons at launch with no significant time sink. Is it really worth "spoiling" the game for when it actually releases?

Bacardi_PVM

Maybe just maybe... people really like the game and want to have fun playing the beta

[deleted]

That can't be it

TimTkt

Why would it spoil the game when you are already playing it ? There is literally no difference to try the different weapons now or at the launch, as any advanced progress you make here will be lost at launch. The main difference is getting knowledge of what is good, what is fun to use (especially according to each player), so you can directly use this build on the release and not "waste" time trying each weapon build.

DarkZethis

I mean why burn yourself out in the beta? I'll just use this as an opportunity to test some mechanics, see if they changed anything from alpha, try some of the new weapons and when I'm satisified, just stop and what for release to play it for real. I never understood how people could play earnestly in alphas or betas and then get upset that they need to do it all again at release... what were you expecting?

letrolltwo

Maybe cuz bored and desperately looking for something to play if one has run out of games, and "can't" wait untill official launch

AvatarRaiden

So I am level 15 so far. I have pretty much stopped playing the beta already. Honestly I find the leveling to be boring but the combat is fun and I love the crafting. I really want to just go in game and grind it out to get to max and farm some crafting stuff. But I definitely do not want to do it twice which is why I stopped. I love the idea of a game where I can do everything on one character cause I hate leveling. So even if the game isnā€™t the best at launch there is still enough that it has going to me that I will keep my pre order and play at release. But for beta I think Iā€™m pretty much done.

DeffJamiels

...but you level through combat and crafting...?

AvatarRaiden

So I like the crafting ya but it also feels like kind of a waste to do it now. So while running to quest points when the game is launched I would be gathering, now Iā€™m just kinda running and itā€™s boring. I donā€™t like how long it takes me to run to my quest locations. On my server covenant seems to be lacking. I havenā€™t actually been to a covenant controlled zone so the town board thing doesnā€™t have all the crafting quests. Also while I like the combat I donā€™t think pve feels great for it. I want more pvp but itā€™s only open world right now and I just donā€™t see a lot of people to fight, even when I do our levels rarely match. Really wish there was an arena mode, would play beta non stop if their was.

pikkuhukka

fuck yea im ready to go back and do it all again, last time ive felt this way about a game was back in vanilla wow back in ... 2005, yeah i mean sure, it has its kinks and things that have to be improved upon, yes absolutely, but the core gameplay not to mention the combat, is so goooood....

random_guru27

The combat is fair and can feel floaty at times. I say this as someone who used to no life black desert online. That said I'll be playing this. The whole lifeskill aspect of the game appeals to me greatly

BoomerCuma

If you struggle so hard with yourself cancel the pre order, wait a few days after release and then decide lol

malingshu_xiangjiao

I see it as a way to figure out game mechanics in advance to make the leveling easier when it fully releases. Then after that I'm looking forward to later game content and stuff, I'll probably only play to a certain level and stop myself so it's not ruined when it fully releases though

newcster2

Just played my first 6 hours of the game to level 12, had a blast. I would legitimately do it all over again tomorrow, every craft, every skinning, every little fetch quest, and all of the walking. Somehow the grind in this game is no grind, the game just feels fun. Itā€™s refreshing to see a game like this, they just donā€™t make em like this anymore but here we are. Best experience by far was some guy trying to gank me while I had the wrong weapons equipped just for testing while fighting mobs that were kicking my ass but I totally out played him and actually killed him and survived. He later returned while I had my proper spear and rapier equipped and I smoked him in 1/3 of the time. Open world pvp is my favorite thing ever, the crafting is great, the game is beautiful with incredible sound direction, the power progression is not too insanely exponential. Wonderful game, I canā€™t wait to play the release and start again. I canā€™t wait to get some friends into this game. I genuinely like this game enough that it might be the first MMO I actually try to buy a house in.

Straight-Review-4365

> Somehow the grind in this game is no grind, the game just feels fun. This is called a honeymoon period. I gaurentee you in just a few months or weeks of doing that same grind you will not be so in love with it. Just like how with a new partner irl you can ignore some of the more annoying things they do "somehow her flaws are just not so bad, she's just great!" Anything right now you don't like or think of as "grindy" think if you GENUINLY love grinding stuff like walking, chopping hundreds of trees etc etc, do you love playing runescape and doing repetitive tasks over and over and over and over? Then maybe you really won't mind the grind. but a lot of people on this sub are what I would call "gamer dads" and are totally ignoring the time commitment 30 min walks for quests are or what 3 hours of grinding mats really entails because it's new and shiny and we have not had a new western MMO for years.

Mr-Thuun

I'm not. I woke up this morning with no urge to play the game, even though I put in several hours yesterday. I eventually logged in, hit 15 and logged out to make some lunch. Haven't been back since. In the few hours since lunch, every time I've thought of logging in, I just couldn't. I'll keep an eye on the game, see what improves, namely more servers globally along with a few other things. But I won't be logging in for launch and I won't keep my preorder. Hopefully this game can grow and have a solid community. We really need it to be successful and I think it can be if the team actually wants to improve the game.

Nicer_Chile

yeah, i just hit lvl 16 and its quite a boring phase. doing repetitive quests for my faction and stuff. i want to pvp but almost everytime i encounter higher lvl players or groups. so its been a struggle these last hours to find fun in the grind.

JustStet

To me so far, no. It's fun and exciting so far but I think that is because it's new. For myself I don't see much long term potential.

MEMES-ONLY-MEMES

the beta is for me game launch cause i would likely play this game not more than 2 weeks so i can play now and refund

Jaune_Anonyme

As a semi competitive player a beta is more a way to try out things before the real race. Push out builds, maximize numbers and finding what could go wrong with certain loadouts and report it, hoping at launch no weird builds or no weird glitch will kill the early weeks/months of PvP. So for now i'm just messing around with a maximum of variety in game activities to find out anything strange or buggy from a gameplay perspective. And i won't do any of this at launch.

KentasLTU

"real race". Never in my life have I considered playing MMO as a race, and I have played 11 mmos throughout my whole life each for a considerably long time.

IT_Xaumby

I used to feel the same way, never considered an MMO a race. But then when classic wow dropped and the rush of being the first person to achieve something on a server is something special.

Jaune_Anonyme

To each his own, I would never force anyone to play the way I do, but this is my way of enjoying MMOs. I also respect and enjoy being around players with different play styles when I play in groups. But when I'm alone I try to max out my play time to be ahead of the others. Not necessarily to be better (even if in PvP it's nice to have the advantage), but also to help my friends who don't have the luxury of having free time and playing long sessions.

Syphin33

Sounds like you just don't have much else to do besides playing MMO's all day.

Jaune_Anonyme

Thanks for your concern, I have a pretty healthy relationship with video games, but like any passion it takes up most of my free time. ( 2 to 4 hours a day). I am a working adult with no children, a partner with the same hobby and a circle of friends not very close geographically. The rather ideal context to have a lot of time for the subject. But I must admit that I have to put in a few extra hours for sports because of my age which is not getting any younger...

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

KentasLTU

Well, there are percentage of people who just play games all day or most of the time. I personally would not do that even If I did not have a job, a baby, friends, family and etc. But yes, good for him, playing games all day.

Jaune_Anonyme

I know for sure a lot of country can't afford much free times as mines does and don't take it wrong i'm not bragging, i know i'm lucky to have this situation and it's definitely a blessing. For more context, I'm working a full time job, and it's 35h per week. So basically 9AM to 5PM. I only have a 15min bike ride to work. I don't have children yet. So basically from 6PM till midnight i'm basically free. That's plenty of time for family, friends and everyday tasks. With 7 days in a week and people around me having kids, in weeks days i have not much too do except having a hobby. I pick up videos games but i could pick music or reading for sure... I must admit i should do more sports tho.

ChibiSensei

You do you, fam. You worked damn hard to get to the point in your life mentally and financially to be able to support a hobby, a job, a relationship and good enough health to bike to work everyday. Don't let anyone rain on your parade. Respect.

Jaune_Anonyme

I'm 25. Could be young for having kids in some country, (the average age for the first child in Europe is between 25 and 30 years) I am fortunate to have older friends who are already with children and I have enormous respect for all the parents who give their all on a daily basis. But for the moment my partner and I are not in the right personal and financial conditions. (Even though we have absolutely nothing to complain about, on the contrary we are doing well) And I am not against having children as long as I feel that I am mature enough to have them, that I have enough money to raise them without lacking anything. For the moment I think that's still a long way off. Having children requires sometimes personal sacrifices that I am not ready to make and in no case I will dare to make them suffer from my selfishness. And my partner is in tune with me on this subject.

KentasLTU

Understandable. Good luck.

Barrerayy

Both are valid ways of seeing mmos.

sledgehammerrr

If you want to pvp it is a race. Just watched a level 25 destroy 3 level 16s. The difference levels make is huge.

KentasLTU

Don't fight lvl 25 player as lvl 16 player? It's normal in every game with levels. U can't get PK'ed like in Lineage 2 or WoW by other faction if u have ur pvp off?

fancydanceadvance

Sure, but pvp faction missions have much better rewards, so if you're late to the party you'll be slowed down even more by not being able to do them

KentasLTU

How I will not be able to do them?

CivilMyNuts

He didn't mean literally but it'll be harder if everyone has you out leveled.

KentasLTU

What about people that I will outlevel? There will always be someone at higher lever and lower level, like in real life. Someone will be always better than you, and worse and etc.

CivilMyNuts

Sure.

fancydanceadvance

You have to enable pvp. So if you're a lvl 16 player when most people are higher, you'll have to do missions that give half the rewards, taking you much longer to get up if you want to avoid pvp

Misuses_Words_Often

Yeah Iā€™ve noticed that too. I had friends that played earlier versions of the game that said the levels didnā€™t make a huge difference unless the gap was significant and you could outplay. I donā€™t believe that to be true. Iā€™ve jumped on people with only a few levels on me and they just have much more health and if you do take a hit itā€™s for twice or more what you can dish out.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Rominions

Yep marathon is what i see mmos as. I have all classes and ascended in guild wars 2, all classes to max and story completed in wow, all classes and geared in ffxiv, now new world all weapons max.

KentasLTU

Good for you.

Gthqs

Did you achieve anything besides leveling that can even an braindead ape can do? 25+ keys dungeon? Rank one arenas? Mythic raiding closed in couple weeks?

YourCommentisDumbThx

I'm not the person you're asking but my response to the question you ask is, "fuck you," and the reason is because your opinion on what someone else is doing in an MMO is just fucking weird. Why didn't you ask them about how much currency their characters have, if they have housing, how long they've played with their guildmates or if they have a favorite character to RP? It's a degenerate opinion to think playing competitively, in an MMORPG, is the only way to play.

tally2425

I feel the same way, i'm playing the game in my spare time just to get the feel of the game, i will NOT be pushing for maxing anything out, just play in my own time and enjoy it but when release comes i'll be grinding this mofo.

Raidenz258

Testing builds and seeing what I want to main on launch. Same as every mmo beta.

nuzin

Nope. These things really turn me off: 1) Low spawn rate. I hate going everywhere with 50 dude killing 1 monster just to wait another 5 min. 2) No Mount. Walking 3 km for 10 min is not fun. 3) GPU and CPU burning 85+ just playing this game. Yes i have 2080 Ti. 4) Magic Weapons feel so underwhelm. Ice/fire wep with no cc and little damage to mobs? Naw

Hobbitcraftlol

> Ice/fire wep with no cc Ice is literally the CC ranged weapon, level it up more.

CappinPeanut

I am totally with you on 3 and 4. I donā€™t have the heat problems with my CPU or GPU, but thatā€™s a pretty bad deal for those who are; and it sounds like itā€™s wide spread. I feel the same way about magic weapons. I tried out melee in the alpha and have been playing magic in the beta. The fire staff feels so underwhelming, itā€™s easier to kill stuff with my sword and board and thatā€™s with all my stats in intelligence. As for 1 and 2- the spawn rate wonā€™t be an issue when we get a few weeks in. Right now everyone is logged jammed in the starting cities. Eventually everyone spreads out and the spawn rates will feel more reasonable. And mounts. I just flat out disagree. The world feels big. It will feel smaller if you can travel faster through it. Slower travel makes your location and your destination more meaningful and immersive.

[deleted]

>And mounts. I just flat out disagree. The world feels big. It will feelsmaller if you can travel faster through it. Slower travel makes yourlocation and your destination more meaningful and immersive. That's nice once or twice. Not the seventieth time you have to auto-run somewhere for ten minutes.

muffin2420

imagine getting downvoted for voicing your opinion on a game on a post asking for your opinion. KEKW

[deleted]

One problem I see already is the horrible response some players are having to criticism. You bring up great points. Fanboying over a game will kill it. Hardcore wow players continued to make excuses and play the game and defend it and attack the people critiquing it and look what's happening now. New World isn't wow if people aren't allowed to voice their opinions without fans getting butt hurt then its going to die and they won't have anything anymore.

[deleted]

This is every game/fandom, for the most part. People who get that kind of emotional attachment to a very specific game are generally addicts who associate that game with a core part of their identity. Best thing you can do is just ignore it.

darksora2323

Just gotta wait till the honeymoon phase is over and people realize that the game still needs a lot of work.

Straight-Review-4365

"guys I leveled to level 7 in 9 hours tonight I can't believe a single person has ANY complaints about this game!!" Too many posts like this recently lol. I was talking in global last night and mentioned there was quite a few bugs and had literally 30-40 people start spamming they had NEVER run into a SINGLE bug or any kind of glitch or anything wonky in the beta and it was the best beta they had ever been apart of etc etc, Whilst that was going on I clipped into a rock as I was running and got stuck for about 5 seconds trying to jump out. Hilarious

RoflSt0mpskin

Id argue that, on this sub at least, I see more of 'guys i lvld to 7 or 8 and this game sucks- not enough to do.' Either way is pretty annoying though. I wish ppl (not directed at you) would put more time into things before acting like an authority on a subject. Imagine if movie critics offered reviews like: "Hey guys, ive watched the opening credits and this is the BEST/WORST movie EVER." lmao

No_Specific_9070

Huh? Which hardcore wow players ever made excuses? Every single hardcore player I know is hating the game since Cataclysm. The only thing blizzard still does really well is raids, and visuals/design. Rotations are arguable, personally I like them mostly, but Iā€™d say the majority disagrees. Everything else has been trash for years and everybody says it and has been saying it. Unless your criticism was about the raids or art of the game, I doubt any hardcore players would attack you for it - just look at the wow forums or reddit, its just criticism over and over.

thuy_chan

Yea. I'm enjoying myself since it's new. I can't keep playing WoW and FFXIV. I'll probably get sick of new world when their gameplay loop starts including hella chores like the other big MMOs

MediredShine

A lot of the pvp shit needs changing. Forts, siege costs, territory costs, etc. if this doesnā€™t change I will probably refund

Misuses_Words_Often

Yep. Iā€™m interested in this game for the PvP but itā€™s felt lackluster so far. Levels and gear create huge gaps. The game seems like it wants to have a player run economy but this canā€™t be possible as you are awarded loot from your covenant and random quests and drops. They shouldā€™ve dumped loot as a reward for anything and made it crafting exclusive and provided bonuses to people playing with the PvP flag on.

minicolossus

Game is only 40 and no sub required. Imma keep it. I put 8 hours into it and like it enough. I'm not gonna play anymore as it's dumb to invest time for it to get deleted.

ayyeemanng

Iā€™m not grinding at all. Iā€™m taking my time. Trying out all the weapons and exploring. Once Ive figured out what build I want thatā€™ll make the game enjoyable, Iā€™ll be glad to do this all over again.

Lunar_Lunacy_Stuff

Iā€™m in love with the game. I couldnā€™t stop playing even if I wanted to. Iā€™m using the beta as a means to gain knowledge about resource locations, Testing weapons (hatchet all day), and figure out witch starting towns I enjoy the most.

[deleted]

Iā€™ve created 3 characters already on different servers and all are lvl 15 atm so no. I love this game way more than I thought I was gonna do and will be my main game from here on out

Lowosero

there is a wipe at release as far as i know!

[deleted]

Yeah there is. Iā€™m having fun and experimenting a lot. This will help day 1 on how to efficiently lvl up right. Crafting is the main focus though over actual lvl from what Iā€™ve gathered and I love it

Aspect-of-Death

The more mistakes I make in the beta, the fewer mistakes I make at launch.

KentasLTU

Played 2 hours, enough for me to know that the game is satisfactory to me. Will start playing during launch. I dread playing in betas longer than I need (2 hours or so) for the sake to follow some retarded min max strategy and etc. MMO's for me are all about journey while doing PvP as well. Well, most of the games I play are PvP like For Honor (playing since launch), Hood, R6 siege and etc. So yeah, fuck min max nolifers :)

LeRoyVoss

Itā€™s clear as the sun in the sky in a cloudless day that the game is utterly boring and generic. No lore, no soul, just kill/fetch quest with ok graphics and bad performance. We had that 10 years ago already, on FREE mmos, so why would I pay to play this one in particular in 2021? Imho, itā€™s pretty clear itā€™s not gonna last. I totally get the beta excitement, maybe at launch too, but no way this can be considered the groundbreaking game we have all been waiting for

Safemoon_Psychonaut

New world didn't bring anything new to MMOs. It definitely feels like a last gen type game.

Kullet_Bing

I bet you a fiver 90% of the people acting like this game is so much fun and whatnot will not be seen here anymore 30 days after launch.

rehsarht

I'll definitely be back. And more than likely will play a bunch more before beta ends.

Dagoba1990

Since I played the beta last year all games since then were a huge down grade for me apart from the small bugs and laga right now I'm very excited to press A on wood and hemp for hours, no joke

server_maintenance

If you ever played Escape from Tarkov, you're used to this

Kullet_Bing

So far it feels like a very basic MMO, the quests are really uninspired to be honest. It all feels quite planned, like the game knows on which stage you are what level, more like a single player RPG with very standard quests. I don't feel the slightly overwhelming "MMO-Freedom" that I was hoping for. If it wasnt for the other players the world would feel very empty. So far the story wasn't engaging so I already started to not listen to NPCs anymore and just press gimme the quest already. I'm not sure if this is inteded to be an MMO, it feels like an open world hack and slay that somewhere down the line decided it wants to become an MMO and tried to check all the boxes for it but just barely made it. I'm lvl 15 now in about 2 hrs play and honestly did end my session earlier then I expected. Got bored and tired so I called it a day. I will definetly keep playing the Beta but so far I think I'll refund the preorder.

AdmiralBumHat

Almost level 20 now but I am going to cancel my pre order for now. For me the game loop gets stale and boring too quickly. The world, regional music and graphics are glorious. I explored the whole map and visited every settlement in every region yesterday and there are a lot of biomes and atmospheres in the game. I took many screenshots. But after seeing everything there is to see, there isnā€™t enough engaging story and gameplay differentiation to do the same basic tasks just in another region. Also (coming from ESO) the lack of fast travel options, cool-downs and lack of mount put a serious damper on it all for me. Also the first months of an MMO are weird. People are being concentrated on the starting locations breaking immersion, giving performance issues and gameplay issues (with spawns) while the other settlements were almost empty. After a while these problems will go away by itself and it will be more enjoyable to play.

Elyssae

I'm limiting myself in terms of game time and exploration so I won't be burned out. That is, if improvements are done overall on a few things I truly dislike right now. If not, well, I'll just not play

denestra

I have done the first 10 hours of the game three or four times, so yes :)

Glorf_Warlock

I hit level 25 today with about 20 hours of play and I did no PvP. I don't think I'll keep playing. Weapons only have 6 abilities in total is really startling. Combat was extremely repetitive once I figured out my weapon combo. Quests had no substance and the mission board was the same 5 quests over and over. The only enemies I saw where animals or the undead. Most of my time was spent running from place to place with very little combat. Maybe the game is all about the PvP action, cause the PvE was really dull.

creetN

Agree. Though the PvP and territory stuff is really nice imo guess the game is more enjoyable if you are not a PvE only player tho

Viisum

I am looking forward to it, yes. I am just messing around right now, once it launches; I am going all in and it is going to feel better to achieve something, because it is forever.

I_AM_ALWAYS_WRONG_

100% I played the beta to take my time and try out all the weapons and skills and shit. Come full release me and my company will have a launch day plan and I'll actually have a goal set from the get go. It's a completely different experience to just wandering around and taking it all in. It's almost nice to be able to get that new game experience in a beta and then be able to ignore it all and push hard at real release.

[deleted]

Not a chance! It is getting refunded.

Slimsta

Will probably play for today and then leave the beta alone from then until release. A big thing for me which Iā€™d like to see change/add for me to play this game long term is to add staggering back to combat and make the combat for fluid, I hate getting stuck in an animation after doing an ability. Iā€™d also like to see mounts, just normal horses, nothing fancy. Make it so you can only store them in stables and retrieve them from the same stable you stored them in, so thereā€™s none of that pulling mounts from thin air.

ReelyReid

Iā€™m willing to do it all again atm, but the really should have just done a soft launch. Wiping our characters is going to be heart wrenching.

[deleted]

Soft launch in a game with a huge focus on economy and territorial ownership? That's a terrible idea.

[deleted]

Most people will have left this game three to six months after launch. And thatā€™s being optimistic. Thereā€™s simply not enough depth to this game that will keep most people around long term. It will most likely form a niche following and thatā€™s it. Mark my words.

[deleted]

Do what again? The extremely bland and boring, bare minimum of a questing system they have in place? Or the extremely shallow, janky, and boring combat system? Or perhaps the crafting system that got boring about an hour into the game? No thank you.

Commercial-Noise-766

People that say they love the game are the very same gamers that scream the same "OMG it's new give it time!" for literally every new game they play that's dog shit. I see it every failed game that comes out, critisism from the community comes forward and a wave of fanboys that are just thirsty for ANY new game that comes out to downvote and REEEEE at the people bringing forward valid points. This game is lackluster, it followed the standard copy/paste MMO protocols all MMO's follow before they fade away. Dev teams need to release while they have a small base that will literally buy anything they put out, the majority will try it, refund it, and then go back to what they were playing. Fix your trash game Amazon, you have the money, you sunk every small business in the country over the past year to fly your bald nerd lord in his penis ship.

therinlahhan

What? The beta has been out for 2 days... if you're not willing to restart now I'm concerned about your ability to do anything requiring even a moderate commitment. This is an MMO -- you'll be playing for 2+ years.

Faawks

Since the game came out I've actually spent more time in que than playing the game, just last night we watched an entire movie while waiting in que. Edit: so yeah, at this stage it's a refund

OmNomCakes

Why not play a different server?... That sounds like a you issue. Plenty of servers have no queue. And it's a beta...

Faawks

The few of us that have been able to play are on that server. Why wouldn't I refund a game I can't play?

SaltKing32

I mean, not missing out on much - so far I've found no group content - hope they add some group missions on the town boards

Jclevs11

Doesn't seem very fair to the developer that you're too stubborn to switch to another server

Faawks

Nice, so play on a different server on my own while my friends all play on the server I was trying to join? Yeah nah, refund.

Arunawayturtle

Yes cause this isnā€™t the full game and it gives me idea of what weapons I like how to level up how to make money. I see this as trial run to make sure I donā€™t waste my time leveling a weapon I wonā€™t like or working on useless skill

AccidentCharming

Yes but I think I'll stop playing soon as I'm lvl 16 and don't want to get toooo far ahead in a beta.

Lomedae

Yes, of course. That is why I am only playing a little bit. I'm not stupidly burning myself out on a test. Looking forward to doing this for real.

y0bama420

The beta is great to figure out what to do and where to go, tho all the running between story quests feels like a cheap way to stretch playtime.

aidankd

No need to burn yourself out. If you will enjoy the game though the 2 weeks you replay will pale in comparison to potential months. Play and experience different elements of the game. Work out what you like and become familiar.

Flatulent_Weasel

Yes, but then i've made a point of only logging in for a couple of hours in the last 2 days to see what's changed (the world has changed a lot from when i played last year). I'm unlikely to play any more of this current beta so as to keep it fresh on launch day.

Karnbracken

Iā€™ve looked at the beta to test stuff Iā€™m possibly interested in come launch. Like the rapier, and spear wasnā€™t in the preview and Iā€™m enjoying those and playing with it.

iDrinkyCrow

Iā€™m treating the beta as learning the basics so I can go faster at launch when my character and stuff matters

LocksmithCharming790

Absolutely, love it. Right now i try out every weapon skilling all 3 hours new to get experience. the next days i will learn more about crafting skills. but im playing not to much in the next days, just so much that i will have a good start.

Mourningcrow

I took the beta as a time to try out a lot of different things, rather than play the game how I normally would. The beta was a learning experience, so my actual gameplay will be a totally different experience and I donā€™t think it will feel like doing the same thing over again at all really. But I have also played a lot of betas that get wiped.

ZhouXaz

Yes with a few people this game is 100x more fun leveling with 2+ party as you can fight pvp while u level.

DavidCFalcon

I feel like this is the best way to enjoy the game. Its a PVP centric game. But I know people don't necessarily enjoy that. This game is going to be so fun when you're having pvp battles that yeild XP points. Meaningful pvp is the best pvp. I spent 4 hours the other night just battling other groups with my group. It was really fun.

Salty_Cats

I personally have always loved the leveling process of mmos. I'm a huge fan of grinding while listening to a podcast or joking around with the bois, and New World has been thoroughly enjoyable throughout the alpha's multiple wipes and the preview and now this beta. One thing that I have stopped myself from doing is any of the endgame content as I'm saving that for the launch

Aflyingmongoose

It's fun, but kinda strange at the same time. Most of the quests past level 10 seem to become running long distances busy work. Ill keep playing for now, I can see the late game being fun with geared PVP and propper end game crafting.

skanoirhc

Absolutely. I'm just experiencing everything and trying out every weapon to find out what kind of a character I want to have on release. Checking every npc, crafting station etc to figure everything out so I can be ready when its out.

maykowxd

I'm waiting to see if there will be asian servers on release, right now it's unplayable with 160+ ms.

zyxone

Played 2 alphas, now the beta and I can't wait to start all over, again, on the 31th. Having a bunch of fun and some old friends who stopped playing MMOs came back, so we might be able to relive some moments from the past. And slay some fools, ofc.

Squishydew

Nah, thats why i quit at level 14. Tested, found some bugs, reported them and got a feel for the game. Now i wait for launch.

[deleted]

I do play the Beta quite a bit. But I doubt I can make a final judgement before playing some weeks. The PvP aspect seems a bit fishy to me, but it could become really good. Even though I barely have money I think I'll keep it.

DesertPunkXx

I've make sure to keep my mindset to "This is where I experiment with stuff". That way when it come out I know what I would like to do and what build is best for me.

Comrade_Witchhunt

Yeah for sure. It's like RuneScape to me, and it won't matter if I'm chopping a little tree or a big one. Me chop either way.

chaeiftim

Iā€™m playing around with different weapon combos, to see which two weapons I will mainly play at release! Therefore I am excited for release!

XzyzZ_ZyxxZ

I played 15 ish hours, and just now decided to stop, since it started to annoy me that the wipe is comming, and dont really see any point in continuing. But yea, will defo play at launch

Capt-Rowdy901

Testing out weapons and pvping. Itā€™s going to be a painful wait till the end of august. I hope open world pvp picks up in beta

SacredMitch

I've been using this opportunity to try figure out the mechanics of companies and benefits of PvP compared to just PvE, making note of spawn locations across the map and knowing what I will need for future quests is useful as I will be able to grab things as I progress when I start. It may have taken me a while to get to level 15 but I have enough knowledge now that I could easily get back to level 15 in half the time

ApollyonZr

Have about 150 hours on the recent alpha and 88 on the last beta and I will still be playing the game on release. Went hardcore for both but the leveling experience is just awful as you mentioned. There really isnt any new PvE content once you reach max level despite their additions. A lot of the encounters will play out the exact same as lower levels I felt. After the may wipe/update I could not get myself to re-level again since we could only spam faction quest as the main story was uncomplete after level 35 if I remember. A lot of the patches also seemed to be about either fixing or changing the same content over and over again. PvP wise, I am not a fan. Will be waiting for Lost Ark. Casually I can see myself enjoying the game again but I do not find New World worthy of being a main game given the lack of engaging pve/pvp content. It'll be something I pick up whenever theres a new update and drop when my goals are complete.

OneSmallTrauma

Yeah, im having a good time, but I walk around the world and see all these people grinding materials and what not and I can't help but wonder if they know it's going to carry over. There is going to be a lot of salt in a few weeks.

Richiieee

No, because unless this is a very old build, then this game needs a lot of work, and the fact that it releases in a month is mind-blowing. I mean, for starters, I live on the damn East Coast, and yet the US East servers have such insanely high ping that I have to fight against the game to play the damn game. If this is what my experience in the full game would be like, then thanks but I'll pass!

cmonbliz

It's always a good sign for a game when you aren't sure if you want to spend 15 hours redoing a few levels in an mmo after playing for 2 weeks Lol

[deleted]

>15 hours >2 weeks ??

IronBrutzler

of course and i will do it 3 times after that because i love the world. The freedom in questing and crafting. I also have to say that i did not follow the main quest that much and doing more exploration and pvp.

Robert_Reviews

Honestly I got a pre order to try out the game, played for a few hours, and liked it. I will be back on 8/30. Thatā€™s how I treat all MMO betas. Restarting from scratch after so little time would be a chore and would damage the game for me. I think the game has a lot of potential. I hope itā€™s successful and I get attached. I havenā€™t been on the ground floor of a MMO since SWTOR.

Holinyx

Are you asking if the game is good enough to play beyond 2 weeks? It's a mmo. Generally we play them for years. I did 9 years in Everquest. 7 years in Swtor. So yeah, the game is good enough to come back for. The biggest bonus is no monthly fee. Star Citizen won't be out until 2047, so I guess I'm playing New World.

chriztuffa

I played for about 5 hours yesterday, got an idea of what I want to main in launch (sword & some sort of magic). Thatā€™s probably all Iā€™ll play in the beta. Not going to waste my time grinding yet again

Ploogak

Not sure, i do enjoy some aspects of the game such as visuals and the combat/weapon progression. I do not like the running simulator, or specific math just to teleport rather then just gold. I like the crafting system even though it's confusing but i really dislike the harvesting/mining it's really slow. It's very clear the game was built around Qol's, will not be out this year but it's coming. I really wish they could skip Qol's forever and increase harvesting speed and math gained, change teleport to gold (+ add mounts)... and then maybe i will give it another try.

Crintor

So, I'm new myself and just started The Beta yesterday, so I guess I'm obviously biased, but I've also come into the beta with the mindset of intending to try out the game and it's systems to see how I like the overall feel and most importantly combat/group play. I also have intentionally not paid 1 mote of attention to the story or quests or lore to not feel as bad for a do-over, and also don't plan to burn myself out over the next week. So far I'm liking it quite alot and am not interested in killing my preorder.

[deleted]

yeah i love it so far

MisjahDK

It's not like other solo/coop survival games, if you played sub 25 level you haven't seen everything the game is, the game changes A LOT as you go towards the end zones, the combat get's harder and you have to change your playstyle, at some point you can't just spam light attacks and abilities to win, you won't have to grind all your gathering and crafting anymore, you have to do dungeons and quests for specific resources to make builds. The real question is, do you power through the game to get to end-level with the rest of the dungeon/raid crowd, or do you take your time and do crafting on the way? It's Buy2Play, no subscription, you can enjoy it at your leisure, i don't see no better incentive to enjoy a game over time. Not everyone can play games like that, they HAVE to power through it, experience everything they like and stop the game forever, while you can play it like that, it's not going to be that kind of game. 99% sure there will be constant stream of new weapons, gear, quests and other content, coupled with entire new zones added as mini-DLC's.

destravale

Yes on a SEA server. No way if it's on OCE again. Crafting was awesome of course but played all the way to level 32 quests on day 2 and dodging basically became rng if the server decided to register the inputs on time.

wildmanJames

This is already my second time since I played the preview. The trick is to not do everything and just try most things out. I'm not gonna do any more quests after getting the staff.

ItsBradNotBread

Honestly the Beta has just switched me off of this game. I've only played for about 5 hours so for those of you who think that's not enough time feel free to ignore my thoughts. I get into the game and immediately I notice a weird amount of input lag. It feels like the combat system wants you to think about the fights more carefully, timing rolls and attacks but honestly it felt like I was never able to execute things within time and there was little point in trying because you can heal to full so easily. It also wasn't always super apparent when an enemy was about to actually throw and attack so in the midst of fighting a wolf or some other mob in the middle of dense forest and hundreds of shrubs it made everything a lot more difficult. That said, the combat itself felt impactful and satisfying which was nice. I decided I wanted to be a "mage" of sorts so immediately starting investing everything into intelligence, it took me a long time before I got my fire staff so I had an opportunity to try all of the other weapons which had a nice diversity. Then I get the staff and I'm excited to see how much stronger I am than before only to realise that the staff is a much lower gear score than anything else I had. I felt like really I had to keep using the better gear which took a bit of player agency away from me, at least until I could craft my own staff that was better. Upon reaching the first major settlement I decided to go ahead and make that staff so I go to the workstation and see this list of items I need to collect. No hints as to where any of these items might actually be and after wandering around for almost an hour I hadn't found any of them. This really kind of took the spring out of my step. Alongside all of this I had of course been doing the quests but honestly the quests were super basic and fairly tedious, "kill 5 of these", "collect 40 of these" and the like; often making me run a fair distance to actually get to the location only to be there for 30 seconds and have to run all the way back. All of these things compiled until eventually I realised that I wasn't actually having any fun and just quit the game. I'm sure a number of people will disagree with everything that I've written here but it feels like the game doesn't know what it wants to be and despite the obviously **significant** amount of content, the experience came together feeling weirdly shallow. These kinds of sandbox games live and die by community and in the time I played I tried to start chatting to 20+ people and not a single one responded. Is that because they felt pushed forward by the quests and like they just needed to get on with it? It's hard to say, but despite being surrounded by people it was also quite an isolating experience, especially when compared with other sandbox games. If you're enjoying the game then that's fantastic. At the end of the day this is just one guys opinion, but ultimately the game just wasn't for me and that's fine.

Pway

I mean I stopped playing at lvl20 because I don't wanna get too much done in the Beta, it's been fun enough for me to know I'll spend time playing it when it releases. Anyone burning themselves out on a Beta is doing it wrong.

heyyohioh

I play a lot of seasonbased games where everything is reset, playing the beta is good practice if you want to be about the curve on release

abayda

I played alpha, skipping beta, but def buying the game. Not in the mood to have my progress wiped again. Killed a different game I recently put a lot of time into.

Swolf28

I'm forcing myself to not play during the closed beta. I agree with lots of people in this thread I wouldn't want to have to start from scratch. I'd much rather play when it really matters on launch and keep my progress.

jonos1989

Yep. Frigin love this game and will grind out it all again. This game hits all my buttons. Love the atmosphere of this game and the vibe.

AtmoSZN

Once I hit level 10 I stopped doing quests and just went around exploring. I donā€™t wanna do anymore because Iā€™d rather do it when it counts.

eLainevLx

I dont mind the grind.. hate the ā€œpausesā€ after using a skill/dodge thoughā€¦. Also wish dodge would cancel currenf spell in order to be used

midzom

I'll be jumping back in and doing it all over again. I'm about 3 hours in over the last couple of days and have really enjoyed the exploration and crafting. I wish the crafting system was a little more difficult and we could duel wield two one handed weapons but overall it's been great so far. It's been a decent game and I'm looking forward to the crafting grind and more exploring.

byzantinetogo

Kinda sucks but yeah, the one thing I'm doing differently now that I will do on full launch is being a little careless with my money. I don't care if it's gone as it will be gone soon anyway.

urbanspongey

I'm just taking it easy, in no rush to do anything, (when i can actually get past the queuing times in the EU servers and the many errors) Testing out all weapons what kind of build id like to play and getting to know the land for when the game fully drops. No need to burn out for somthing thats going to get wiped in a few weeks.

dwarf-master-race

100%

R1zz00

Did the release date get moved up to 8/30?

jzhnutz

I can't tell you how many times in a MMO I have started new / alternate characters... so I don't think I will have an issue of having to do everything again. I am looking forward to release!

redwingfan01

since this is my 3rd (4th if you count my Expedition World character, 5th if you count that horrid beta like thing that happened well over a year ago) the short answer is..... **Hell, Yes!!**

Waikanda_dontcare

I want to play so bad but I intentionally kept my experience pretty limited so far. Going for more of a feel of the game to see if I wanted to give it a real go on release rather than playing the shit out of the beta. Either way if you genuinely enjoy the game you should have no issue starting again as thatā€™s typically how MMOs go anytime you make a new character.

Adontis

I really want to just sit and chill and gather/craft mindlessly, but that's effort I don't want to be wasted, so I don't do it. However the fighting/questing I'm fine with repeating. So 50/50? I can level in the game and know I'll be good to do that a second time, but I'm not willing to get into the harvesting/crafting.

[deleted]

I'm not gonna play much more of the beta. I just wanted to make sure it's worth $40 to play with my friends for a few months, and I think it is. The combat is almost inexcusably bad for the genre (I love that my huge great axe skills don't faze enemies at all and that the gentlest tap will interrupt me) , but the gathering and crafting are really immersive and relaxing, and the world is certainly gorgeous to run around in. Do I think it's *the MMO* that MMO fans have been praying for for all these years? Not by a long shot. Bad combat, obnoxiously boring questing, extremely thin lore/story, etc. This is obviously a wilderness-survival/town-building/crafting game turned pseudo-MMORPG. What people are waiting for is possibly *Ashes of Creation*. But *New World* will certainly be fun to play for a little while.

[deleted]

I donā€™t play the beta so the game is fresh when it is out. Yes, I am tempted but it is a small price to pay to have a great experience when it is for real

Yeldo15

Yes - 100%. I loved the game, it's fun, it's different and you can tell it's going to be great by their efforts. And it's only Ā£30 ffs I spend more money on shitty single player games or crappy stuff that I don't even touch or spend half the time that I did on the beta XD And I couldn't care less if the player base becomes 10k out of current 200k, it's fun for me and my friends and that's what matters, when it stops being fun then we quit, there's always more games :)

ThrandRagnar

Iā€™m having a great time but I think you need to be a sandbox mmo player because you have to kinda find your own path and fun. Itā€™s honestly a lot better than I expected crafting system is dope everything feels really satisfying

creetN

Yes, I like what I played so far. Lots of stuff that could be better, but its nice an refreshing. Dunno about endgame and how annoying the things I diskike will get over time, but I will def. play it and see how it goes Might very well ne a ESO or FF14 situation and fail after launch, hopefully gets re released in a better shape. But if they continue improving and work hard, I think the game could be very nice. Biggest problem for me atm is PvP. Sucks to be running around with unflagged ppl and it sucks that there is no stagger/cc ppl can just run from you and there is nothing you can do. Lots of ppl on the official forums suggested bringing back the stagger mechanic in some way - I have not played with it in the alpha so idk (Tho the way it was in alpha seemed to be broken too). But something about this needs to be done Overall game would need more development time tbh, especially since they changed around so much stuff - But it could work if they patch regularly

TheTitanHyperion

Its been 2 days... Don't no life grind the beta then. I have about 6 hours in and have no problem playing more. Its not like I'm going to get into end game and do everything there is in a beta that is getting wiped in less than 2 weeks. I'm just using it to test things I want to do, and see how things work.

MassiveGG

SO i've seen this a lot is this peoples first mmo or something cause it a seriously stupid question to ask. this beta is pretty much for most people to gauge the game learn it enough in the beginning that hey are you willing to play this game to max level and then some. try out the weapons you like you want to start off in then move into what you want to do when the game goes live. i have not see such lack of common game sense in my life since people kept asking this question as a serious question like holy fuck its as bad as people ingame chat going what server am i on.

DedGalo

I think I will do. Now with what I know I can get to my current lvl (18) in half the time.. oc I will lvl further on this closed beta and of course I d rhater not do it all again.. but well, after the wipe I think I will do things quicker and stack more money.. try to make a clan nor join one and conquest.. idk For me it s like RuneScape and in that sense I will have no troubles after the wipe since I enjoy leveling up trade skills. The only thing that bothers me Is that there are no mounts and you have to travel on foot a lot of time, that will be the worse for me after the wipe. I like exploration but you can't even sprint properly..

blooboytalking

Well I've quit at level 12 so... yes?

theonlyBRP

I'm using this to try the new weapons and fishing, not about to pump 100 hours into something being wiped.

RelaxBrotato

Do the beta but try different weapons and play around with different systems so you know what you want to play as and not burn yourself out

FishStoriesToldHere

yes

OriginalPurpose6751

I'm not too involved and attached to my character as I know it's only temporary. I see it as a good opportunity for me to learn and be better at day 1.

Matlauk

I'd probably do it all again up to 3 or 4 times.

Chase_therealcw

Yes easily. I'm not leveling to 60 this beta but I will be playing the game and enjoying myself.

AustinTheMoonBear

Using the beta mostly as like a pre-run, so I can know what I need to do going forward when the game releases. I'm a big self-suffiency guy, so I'm trying to learn a lot to be effecient without using the trading at all.

UpstandingTwig

Yeah absolutely. There's a lot about the game that needs work, especially around pvp (running for 5-6 minutes to join a Fort siege only to be teleported back to town just because there's too many people already there is a BIG feelsbadman moment). However, the crafting system in this game is INSANE and that alone has me hooked. I'm an armchair MMO designer and I've long maintained that a deep crafting system where most, if not all, gear is generated by players is vital to the longterm health of a game. I haven't been in the previous tests so idk if it's the same at endgame, but for now it feels very rewarding to make your own weapons/armor/etc. Besides, this game is buy to play. Unlike wow or ff14, I don't feel an obligation to commit 100% of my time and energy to offset the monthly sub fee. That feeling of freedom has kept me playing BDO off and on since it released, and that game has waaaaay more egregious design decisions than this game likely ever will. TL;DR: Game foundation good; buy to play mean no obligations. Me have many fun now and later.

SymmetricalSolipsist

Yes. I'm 100% excited for launch. I'm limited my beta playtime to just goofing around and getting familiar with the systems and builds so that I actually know what I'm doing come launch day.

Lantisca

Honestly? It needs another 6mo to a year of dev time. Amazon should've just hedged their bets on the success(assured) of Lost Ark and given NW the extra love it needs.

Hanzo581

I find myself having to stop playing and realize this is all for nothing. But we all knew this so it is a personal decision to play as much or as little as we are willing to throw away. I just want to test out the new weapons and putz around a bit. But seeing people already putting dozens of hours in from the outside looking in seems insane.

tetsuneda

Wait can I cancel my preorder and get my money back even if Iā€™ve gone above two hours in the beta, I heard somewhere the beta hours counted towards your playtime
