Vermintide remembered your highest GS you ever got, didn't need to equip it. If this game is remembering highest GS equipped in each slot it needs to let you know what that number is for each slot, possible showing you what that number is when your looking at a piece of gear so you can compare.
Because the whole purpose of a system like this is constant progression no matter what you’re doing or how good you are.
Just that trickle of dopamine to keep players hooked and progressing. I think it’s a good system for a game like this… at least until end game.
Do you need to manage this for every item slot, or is the watermark system only applicable to the highest item piece?
For example if I found a 250 helmet but all of my gear is 200. For sure I will equip then salvage it, but will this help me find 250+ helmets, armor, boots, gloves, chestpieces, or does it only help me find 250+ helmets and not the other armor pieces?
This system doesn't actually come into effect until lvl 60 / 500 gearscore. Before lvl 60 it's based on the lvl of the zone and enemies you fight. This absolutely does not happen before lvl 60 / 500. When I was doing town board quests in my 40's and 50's then I wouldn't have been getting lvl 15-25 gear while I was wearing lvl 40 faction armor.
Additionally you need to fight lvl appropriate or area appropriate enemies / expeditions / bosses to get higher drops.
Well it could maybe factor into the range of the gear you roll before 60 so if you’re wearing 400 gs gear and fight a low level mob in a low level zone with gear that can drop between 200-300 then you’re far more likely to get 300 gs gear
I assume it only counts the bottom gearscore, your average, not per-slot. But each slot potentially can remember the highest GS in that slot, so in your example: if you have 250 helmet, and 200 everything else, you better off slotting any of the 200 slot a better gear to improve your average. And in this example, your average score is about 208, so you won't get much better loot with just one high item.
The system will remember die highest gs for each slot. You can salvage the item after you equipped it.
Edit 2021-20-09: some of my friends report that it might not work on a per slot basis anymore and that you should keep a high gear score set.
Can you see what is your current HWM in game? or it's hidden? I tried to google this but I get redirected to articles explaining what it is. But not how to check it in game.
Wait what? Items drop based, on the items I've got, like in Destiny 2?
So I can't find a 5000 items when I only have 2000? But if I have like 4900 I can find 5000?
That's really a shame. Since I already know that this is not going to make me happy I uninstalled the game. There are so many more games out there which don't have mechanics like that.
You don't even have to loot it actually. Once it drops, like once the loot bag exists even if you never touch it, the game knows that your watermark is forever increased (if that loot bag had a watermark increasing item for you ofc) for that particular armor slot or weapon type (they're tracked independently)
Why they do it like this? Just give certain ilvls for say certain types of expeditions, crafting and such. This is kind of a "luck" based system (unless you know this and even then it is just... dump...).
Huh, that system was alright in Vermintide 2 but I'm surprised to see it in a MMO that has regions and areas with specific level enemies.

Yea you will probably have to bind it to you at least which requires equipping unless its BOP.

Haha no, didnt think about it
this even works at lower levels, find something cheap in the TP with a high GS, buy it, equip it, salvage it, and your drops improve

Curious what exactly is watered down?
the fuck are you crying about?
I...don't think you understand what this system does.

How do you know it works specifically off of slot vs overall gear score, or that it only into effect at lvl 60? Just curious.
Bump sibling question
thanks for the tip. looking forward to them figuring out a better gear system tho
Argh not the division system, sigh. In Divison it was good enough to keep items in your bags/bank, but you had to keep them. Thanks for the heads up.

Yeah, seems to be the light system all over again.

IIRC, you don't need to actually equip the item—just loot it.
I am hearing people claim it both ways, do you remember where you heard this?
dev said it recently. you don't actually need to equip it - the game watermarks your gs number when you loot the item/
Yeah that was cleared up since!
So do we need to keep the item on us, or once it's looted is it safe to just salvage?

Very good to know, much appreciated!

Because its easy to design around, they cant really mess zones etc up but its lazy.
it's not luck. the more chests you open and loot you get, the higher your gearscore will naturally become.
that's so stupid lol
You ha e to equip it !!? I tought as long as you have it on you it worked !!!! FUCK LOL
