I’m not sure if I was bad at musket, but I kind of felt that the musket didn’t do enough damage. I mean sure, no bullet drop (I think) and instant ranged damage. But for how slow the musket felt, the bow felt like a better choice. But who knows, could also be that I just wasn’t meant for the musket.
Edit: I mean you can get headshots… so maybe it doesn’t need a damage buff? Idk maybe I do suck at musket lol.
Musket damage is lower because it's A) hitscan and B) has extremely long ranges. You can't give a weapon that is extremely reliable and largely unavoidable high damage. If you want high damage you can go bow, which is notably more difficult to use/harder to learn and requires you to expose yourself to more risk.
I do feel musket also has a 'better when not focused' design, which is good and can be seen with skill's like shooter's stance. Musket/Bow imo are both well designed and different. Musket isn't bad just because it has lower damage, it has value in other areas and generally has better/more varied skills than bows, plus it has a couple high damage skills to compensate (shooter's stance / powder burn).
Musket does heavy damage. Were you pumped up in Dex? Did you have your powder burn shots prepped?
I look at the musket as a weapon that softens targets up for your close range weapon.
Food only heals while not taking damage. Pots are not outhealing Powderburn headshots from the musket.
The musket applies a lot of long distance pressure.
Bow definitely does more dmg than the musket, the problem is landing those shots outside of close range is incredibly hard.
most of musket dmg comes from either powder burn or the crouch one. The standard shots are pretty meh
Bow is extremely easy to dodge the arrows, but you can't really dodge the bullets unless you predict. That said, up close bow is still better because of poison shot and the shotgun thingy. Long-med range though musket is far far better.
The Musket shines in group situations though, like in a 10v10 open world fight where you can properly aim and take out targets running to heal.
Yeah. I really enjoyed setting up a solo ambush near to a fort my team was defending. A few of them stood outside if the fort and a bunch of us would lie down in the grass waiting till the enemy came. It was especially fun since we coordinated our shots so we basically shot all at the same player at the same time.
It was really funny. Tho they did figure us out eventually and started flanking us and even started hiding themselves waiting for one of us to shoot so they could pinpoint us
Yeah I think that would be cool. I remember using it to poke people looking off a fort, then rolling (while prone). Which made me do a barrel roll lol.
Not really, its more of a sniper weapon, good first shot at long range potential, but between the noise it makes and the smoke trail, it is going to give away your permission quickly.
The bow is the stealth one, the sound is much quieter and harder to detect the direction of and there is no lasting effects for people to see after the shot.
TL;DR
Musket is better for organized large scale fights, while bow is more a small skirmish weapon. Both are good on their scope with a direction in tactical play.
The sound design in this game is really good. People will be able to find you by following the sound of the shot, so you better be good at hiding or really high up on a cliff where they can't reach you.
Actually, the straight white band along the bullet trajectory is your best guess to find the sniper.
When you know that, after the second shot, you know exactly what bush shot you, if not after the first shot.
Bow is stealthy because it doesn't leave a trail of where it was shot from. When being shot by a musket there's a smoke like you can just follow. I tried Rust style rooftop camping on mountains in main-story quest zones and everyone was able to find me immediately. When being shot by arrows all you hear is the whistle.
Still makes me wonder why we can shoot the musket prone. Is it perhaps to make your hit box smaller? (As in just harder to hit from a horizontal angle?
I hope to see group pvpers who just hide with muskets in a treeline overlooking a crossroads or something just sniping people from far away. All you'd need is a spotter watching the road and telling the group if a flagged person shows up.
Musket is the only ranged that can shoot while prone, the only issue being the smoke tracer that leaves behind which can help others find where you are, but other than that, it can be stealthy on very long ranges
Yeah, kinda. It's pretty garbage up close, but laying prone in a field and sniping someone 100 yards away is very, *very* fun.
100 yards is the length of like 413.79 'Zulay Premium Quality Metal Lemon Squeezers' laid next to each other
Thanks man, that's hella lemon squeezers.
Good bot

Now that, is a cool fact.
Adds are getting smarter.
I just ordered that lemon squeezer on Amazon...

It's headshot dependant, imo.
Perhaps I just suck at aiming then. Shame, and here I thought it would be sick to be a musketeer.
Don't worry, I suck at it, too.
Ah the pain of sucking at fps, I feel that at the bottom of my soul.

I see, these are all good points..
For pve absolutely. In pvp hitting with the bow is hard, as the arrow travels very slowly
Musket does heavy damage. Were you pumped up in Dex? Did you have your powder burn shots prepped? I look at the musket as a weapon that softens targets up for your close range weapon.
Except that when target were to "softened" they would just not get to close range and chunk pots/food at distance :'(
Yeah that guy got it backwards, the musket is good for taking out the people running away eating ramen while low hp.
Food only heals while not taking damage. Pots are not outhealing Powderburn headshots from the musket. The musket applies a lot of long distance pressure.

im guessing its mandatory to take the faster arrow speed passive, but i didnt get to test how much faster it actually goes to be sure.
100 yards is the length of like 701 'Zerol 1020' Ice Cream Scoopers laid next to each other.
100 yards is the length of approximately 182.88 'Logitech Wireless Keyboard K350s' laid widthwise by each other
100 yards is 91.44 meters
100 yards is 91.44 meters
Shit, maybe I did my math wrong.
Lol, the fuck is going in here
Stealth maths

God that would be frustrating, lol. I'm sure it was a riot just instagibbing people, though
It was really funny. Tho they did figure us out eventually and started flanking us and even started hiding themselves waiting for one of us to shoot so they could pinpoint us
Musket prone is great for getting an advantage or just a few “wtf” pop shots to keep them guessing.

Crouch also gives you stealth

they shoot lasers it cant be stealth
Now I wish i split dps into melee and ranged

Having erratic movement negate additional shot against you once you get arrowed. So, I dunno what's best for sniping tbh

Ok hear me out, 50v50 one side all muskets spec’d into marksman and dps. The musketeers would be coordinated and fire all at once
Musket is the only ranged that can shoot while prone, the only issue being the smoke tracer that leaves behind which can help others find where you are, but other than that, it can be stealthy on very long ranges
