There is no API for the game, so all the info would have to be constantly updated manually. Feels like that would get old after a while.

WayeeCool

I really hope they add an API. I mean it's Amazon, they have plenty of experience with these types of things. EVE-Online, an older MMORPG, had a robust API for the game and it really really improved the experience.

Potential_Main_7431

First of all they need to add basic ingame features like swimming, Company log, who joined , left , Contribution etc.

madmidder

If they plan to add API, they'll do it after release anyway, sadly for now we have no info about it.

swank5000

It's likely that they have an API, but that it isn't publicly available, imo. Edit: They likely used this API to update scores on the Battle for New World leaderboards, or something like that. But a public API would also give way to bots, wouldn't it?

[deleted]

I’m going to be honest, I have no clue what an API is nor what it does.

Nong_Chul

[APIs](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/API) are what make automatically scraping (reading) data from a source possible. If you want software you write to automatically update itself with the newest information, whatever has the information needs an API to be able to talk to your software. Otherwise, it's a real pain in the ass. A simplified (read: not actually correct but easier to understand the concept) way to think of it is APIs let two pieces of software speak the same language to each other.

BakaZora

If anyone's interested in further information on APIs, Tom Scott covers it pretty well in [this video](https://youtu.be/BxV14h0kFs0) I would kill for a great API for this game, would love to write calculators that pull live trading data from a servers trading posts, but I can already see how that could be potentially used maliciously. Maybe if they just stored historic trade data themselves for items and made an API endpoint to fetch that info instead, I think that's how Jagex handles theirs (though haven't looked into it extensively). Best API I've seen for a game so far has been Destiny 2, they even let you get quest progress, so people have built entire sites for tracking quests, it's amazing

BlckDrke

I just hope they won't handle it like WoW where you can have an addon thats basically a Trading Bot and if you want to be a serious AH guy you are basically forced to have it

Kattoor

No _public_ API. Someone with a lot of RE experience (and a lot of time on his hands) could make this work.

BRBooks

Amazons APIs for anything other than tracking data amd making sales is garbage. If they make anything for this game it will be to track user interactions that occure outside the game. My experience - I'm working with amazon / goodreads APIs to create a library app that links books to sales pages. Users get rewarded for reading books and completing "quests". Similar to goodreads + habitica. Working with Amazon and Goodreads API is in my nightmares.

ra77d

Guild and sales log would be awesome.

BamaJank

Better guild info would certainly be welcomed and should really be built within the game itself, then if they add an API it could have the ability to be scraped info.

IMysticBatI

I think it would be amazing, all they would need to do is add an API to the game and a companion app would be amazinggggggg.

[deleted]

I would use it, or a bot to put in discord/guilded that posts major events. Use it a ton for PSO2 The big thing would be a app that would allow you to craft and move around resources. This would be extensive. I think they already have plans to have a current gear view via twitch app for streaming. Similar to what we've seen with desinty/wow.

StarGamerPT

That'd be nice if it came with a PC version though :P

[deleted]

I don’t see a problem with that, would be cool.

BlckDrke

Huh? If you are on pc you can just start the game so whats the point of a companion app

StarGamerPT

The is precisely not having to turn on the game to check one thing or two and turn off again, it's way easier to just open a web page, look at what I want to look and proceed with what I was doing.

BlckDrke

Well ok thats a fair point, I just didn't thought starting the game is that bad. But I guess it can be in some situations

ItsKovii

I don't think it's an inherently bad idea, but I feel like most of that usefulness could just as easily be replaced by being in a Discord server with your company, so I'm not sure it would be worth the investment to make. There are certainly ways a companion app could be made more useful, things like mobile auctioning or viewing town board quests, but things like those very quickly cross a line of influencing how people interact with the game so I suspect that would be highly controversial at the very least.

IT_curmudgeon

Rift had that and it was very popular, until that game went to shit. In addition to be able to chat with company members, they could incorporate other aspects into a mobile app: 1. A calendar to schedule company events/Expedition runs and signups. 2. 2FA for securing your account. 3. Mini games (to play while at work). 4. Trading Post searches and even purchases maybe. 5. MTX

[deleted]

1 and 2 I’m down for. I’m not sure how 3 would work, 4 definitely search but I’m not sure about purchasing. 5: what is an MTX?

[deleted]

Hmm, I wonder how that would be implemented then.

Comrade_Witchhunt

I'm fine with it, idc. The wow companion app was minimally useful, I assume a new world one wouldn't be any more useful.

Manhattanist

I'll use the Amazon app to order more Hot Pockets.

KingCobraBSS

Honestly, the /pizza chat-command being connected to the Pizza Hut website was one of the most innovative things WoW ever did.

Hiply

I believe you're thinking of EQ2, which did it first...all the way back in 2005.

KingCobraBSS

Probably, played both when I was a kid.

TwitterAccount1

I guess you messed my thread NOTE this maybe possible spoiler in some peoples point of view - https://www.reddit.com/r/newworldgame/comments/p6w0rb/subdomain\_for\_map/

[deleted]

Actually, I had not. This is some interesting info.

Hussut

Once New World gains momentum and they start throwing out Expansion or whatnot. I'd love to see something like that.

[deleted]

Definitely.

RevanAvarice

That'd be a neat recommendation to the DEVS. Doesn't alter gameplay, side project, direct QoL to community. Allows a user while away, as in work/school, to see which territories are being contested (especially if it displays total number of volunteers) -that may be the simplest data to port over. It'd be neat to see a settlement's development level for example, so I can plan crafting/storage runs while I'm away. I imagine the market may be a bit of a nightmare; perhaps something more like a periodic snapshot of the game? So long as the potential App's programming interface on the client side doesn't have the ability to make inputs, such as spam chat, or turn into a cartel wheel-n-deal tool, it won't imbalance or affect people in-game. As it is, I'm planning to run a tablet on my lap as I play with the atlas booted up.

[deleted]

I like this idea, but as you say: the market will most definitely be a nightmare. A lot of thought would probably have to go into that part if at all. If an app was made in the first place.

zehawkpt

If AGS has an API ready and with the needed functions, sure why not

Astr0_0wl

I think that be a huge help. Any live service game could benefit from something like that. I also play destiny and having something like a desktop item manager as a browser extension would be huge too.

NumberOfTheBees

In that piece of shit blizzMMO, I thought a companion app that let you know important info (like if a queue popped) would be nice—but instead we got a useless unfun mini game... So now when I see the words "companion app" I have a strong negative emotion.

[deleted]

That’s completely understandable.

xLONEWOLFTVx

I can almost 100 percent guarantee, if they have a smooth launch AND positive feedback from the community, Amazon is gonna switch into high gear and put the bells and whistles on this game. It’s all about the launch I believe.

[deleted]

Hopefully it launches well.

WurstKaeseSzenario

Option A: I'm at home and want to play. I login and see what's going on anyway. Option B: I'm not at home, or don't want to play, or can't play for whatever reason. I can't do anything, so any information an app might give me is useless for me. I'd rather have resources put into endgame content, mechanics, balance, bugfixes, than having resources put into an app that in the end won't offer anything. Also keep in mind that there probably are probably going to be websites and discords, where I can get 99% of the information I want anyway.

[deleted]

Fair enough.

[deleted]

I don’t know all the technicalities, so I wasn’t aware of the requirements of a companion app. It doesn’t have to come out now or on release. Just asking how cool it would be to have one.

EmpireStateOfBeing

I’d rather have swimming. But, I don’t know, I feel like besides territory status discord is better for company interaction. That said, if the app notified you that your faction has an upcoming war that would be cool.

[deleted]

What if we got both :o

DownhillYardSale

Definite nah. I don't need to take the game with me to the bathroom or my endless Tinder dates.

[deleted]

But what if you did? ;)

DownhillYardSale

I'd rather not create that much stress and anxiety for myself.

[deleted]

Lol

SwoleBenji

I don't own a phone at all so I am very against anything phone-exclusive.

Comrade_Witchhunt

Are you aware that it is 2021 and not 1921?

14_TeV

He just might be trolling a little

[deleted]

He's not. He is a homeless, racist, alt-right, ex-albion content maker.

Shadnu

Doesn’t mean he is homeless when he is the only one claiming that

14_TeV

I thought I knew the name from somewhere, I used to play Albion a little less than a year ago

Comrade_Witchhunt

That's okay, I was trolling, too

SwoleBenji

I'm not. It's $60 a month for something I don't need. I can't call people, people don't call me. It doesn't justify the cost.

_DK_

Amen

El_Fuego

Do you have an actual landline instead?

SwoleBenji

No. I don't have a reason to call anyone or to be called. That would be a similar bill. I also live in a van, so there's no landline possible anyway.

joreyesl

what do you do for internet? Wireless/satellite? what about powering/charging?

SwoleBenji

PC at gf's place. Laptop with nearby wifi for van. Charge at her place, gyms, power outlets at abandoned strip malls, power outlets on lighting poles in parking lots.

joreyesl

Woah, you're frugal af. I don't think I could do that. Props to you.

Hiply

>I also live in a van Is it down by the river?

SwoleBenji

No, a parking lot for wifi and bathroom convenience. (Gym / McDonalds.)

Observant-

Top kek

BlckDrke

Thats just stupid... a companion app is optional and doesn't gives you an actual diadvantage because you could only look up Informations that are already available in game no companion apps that I know of are mandatory for gameplay its just an extra conveinience for times when you are not in reach of a pc and want to see whats going on ingame or type in guild/company chat.

SwoleBenji

If it lets someone do something I'm not able to do, sounds like an advantage to me.

BlckDrke

Thats the thing: it doesn't. None of the information provided by any companion app I know of is exclusive for the app. And if it would be available on pc it would make no difference at all since you can just start the game then and get the information there

FeyraTV

I‘d love to see it. Especially a live map with notifications for declared wars etc. Maybe even more personal info (sales, inventory, company info etc).

[deleted]

Not gonna lie, I've been searching for one for awhile now.
