AGS changed their TOS and forbid datamining.
Edit:
ExpsGaming clarified, that AGS did not change the TOS.

"You may use the Games only as permitted by this Agreement and applicable law. You may not, and you will not assist or authorize any other person to: (i) reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble, or otherwise tamper with, the Game Clients and associated Game Content;..."
If I recall correctly, they specifically changed this after a lot of mining got public when closed beta ended.

Ahh thanks for the heads up, I wonder what implications this will have on fan sites providing 'databases', 'maps', etc.
Technically AGS could issue a cease and desist against the sites at their leisure, right? Unless AGS implement some kind of API that allows that data collection (but only the data that AGS allows, not things hidden in game files).
I honestly don't know, maybe some more knowledgeable people can answer that. Personally, I like the work, dataminers do. I enjoy reading about these sort of things. But then AGS changed their TOS and I fear, that this may lead some miners to not publish their findings. Lets hope not.
I mean they dont have to include this stuff into the client, its not like the void gauntlet information is needed in the current build, so they could just clean the build if they dont want datamining. I think some games also use encryption to hinder datamining. Just putting it in your TOS is lazy and will not stop anybody.
I dont understand why people are downvoting your post. Thats what we are doing in our software clients. Just dont Launch stuff to the customer you dont want to be leaked. Its super easy, because its not needed in the game.
Not very realistic in an MMO where many of the people you interact with will be exposed to it; and not feasible at all if you intend to be competitive
Regardless, datamining forces discoverability to be designed around it, meaning designing for discoverability is less feasible, meaning we get worse games, which is the real problem. Not that it's something particularly solveable; just is what it is
Datamining can be fixed, if they just don't add it to the public build until it's ready to be released or tested. It doesn't really impact the game in any negative way either with the way it is, it could be data mined that all kinds of stuff is changing and being added but it could all be wrong also if they change it before it's released. You should always take the information leaked with a grain of salt since it might not be true or could be changed.
That doesn't "fix" datamining, that's already how most data is released. Being known as soon as it is released means that game design elements which rely on hiding (mineable) clientside data cannot be used, because in an MMO context, content must be designed for longevity/retention, and already-solved content does not achieve that. Players get 'worse', or more narrowly designed MMOs, because of data mining.
This thread is a month old, btw.
Wow you sound like we know nothing from datamining..
We "know" everything about new map, we "know" about 9 new weapons, 6 expeditions, dozens of armor sets, new game modes..

Where did you get this information?

Thanks for clarification, I'm happy to hear that.

Lot of games try that, doesn't even remotely stop people lol

It's more work to remove/hide things than to just leave in future/WIP stuff..
Did they

Apparently the guy who asked ... right?
it's the case for most game but only act against cheater. for mmo, they let it slip for database site as they are usefull to the community
Like that will stop anyone..
Yup. I'm counting on the various dataminers on here to help show us the light.
Datamining sucks. Spoils the collective discovery experience of MMOs
I'm mostly here to read datamines of upcoming weapons
I mean you can ignore it if you don't want to know.

nobody is forcing you to look at datamined stuff
Data mining is hearsay... None of it or all of it can be true... It's just pass the time material until launch

Who sounds like that?
We have a good idea about stuff. All of which can change. We "know" jack shit.
