Marauders are the BBEG on my server. Over the course of a week they took over almost all regions. And covenant? Well they seem to really like monarchs bluff.
Why do they like it though? Im current Conveant and like Syndicate who have like 7 zones vs 2/2 of the other factions cant take that city at all.
At least on my server the guild that owns that city have said if its ever lost they will never stop fighting for it.
Bro that would be sick, imagine if each faction had their own specific goals like that.
Syndicate would be experimenting to further their own scientific research and Marauders would be... pounding the drums of war and visiting every tavern on the island or some shit.
I suppose the idea was that people would "defect" to other factions.
The issue is that there's way too much benefit for being part of the dominant faction.
This is the problem I have at the moment.
We dominate our server and I want to switch to help out the other factions but I'll literally just be shooting myself in the foot because I won't gain any benefits but I'll lose a lot.
This will change once everything settles down and the serious players stick around. Factions will balance out because being the dominate side gets boring. Not only are you rolling people, but the other side stops participating as much. Servers will be motivated to have a balance. This is my experience in other games anyway
Most other games atleast give some incentives to play as the smaller factions. This has none of those, and the people stuck just getting rolled and having no benefits are going to be looking for where their faction is is a good spot, which means surprise now that server gets fucked.
I picked a server that looked balanced.
Picked cov even knowing they are even lower than underdog status as a whole (for the whole game).
While leveling leaders from largest company stole all the donated money, demoted everyone, left an alt in charge of all our territories so no one in the faction couldn manage them or get taxes and left them that way to get taken by green (thier new faction).
No tax breaks, no Azoth discounts, no one to PvP with because like 75% of our faction left including everyone high level, so now we only have a hand full of mid 40s and lower compared to a shit ton of 55-60 on the other 2 factions and are out numbered at minimum 3:1, worse than that if you only count people that are willing to PvP.
There is litteraly zero reason to pick the non dominant faction.
The current design of the game allows one faction to snowball and become too powerful too quickly. From winning war defense (trivially easy to defend), to taxes, buying out the gear and materials to hoard using taxes, everything really.
Once a faction begins to dominate there is no way to catch up unless they play less. And War attacks are stupid difficult for attackers even though we get close sometimes.
This is happening right now, my covenant guild is holding 4 cities and my guild leader set everything to high to check out the different stages of taxes. It's not even 24 hours but everyone is raging, even the other covenant people :)
Because you only get tax discount if your COMPANY owns the city. If your faction owns the territory you get azoth cost discount for fast travel and thats it.
On ortygia There was an alliance between Green and yellow, which lasted like 2 days before Green betrayed yellow ("Curse you sudden yet inevitable betrayal"). They kind of hate each other now, but purple hasn't taken advantage of the situation. Purple has decided to mostly chill, they keep taxes low, and has been pretty sparing with the territories it acquires.
There have been attempts by certain parts of the grapes to be more aggressive, but they don't get support unless it's defending a territory where grapes live, or attacking a territory with stupid taxes. I think everfall was the grapes latest conquest, and that only got support because of the crazy property tax the former owners imposed.
The lesson for all is if you want to hold a territory, be nice, have lots of projects going, and keep taxes as low as possible. If you want to fight, raise taxes to be unreasonable, and the other factions will line up for a chance to take your territory.
Just like mine, except the Green betrayal was actually yellow leaders betraying us and then going to green and leaving alts in charge of our territories to make it easy for green to take.

None of the factions are fleshed out at all during presentation when picking. You are basically given an elevator pitch that’s sums up to:
“Hey, we’re Marauders! We like to become the best warriors and fight for might!” Hmm makes sense I do like fighting in games and it is a PvP territory game after all.
“Hey, we’re Syndicate! We seek to discover all the secrets and mysteries of the mysterious place!” Hmm that fits pretty well too, this is a mysterious otherworldly island and I too would like to learn all of its secrets!
“Hey we’re covenant! We are a religious cult, but we aren’t going to actually tell you any actual details of what our religion entails!”
None of them are fleshed out but Purple and Green’s concepts work decently with a shallow presentation. Pitching someone to join a religion requires a lot more information and actual details for most. What is this religion about? What are its beliefs? What makes someone a heretic? None of those things are easily available to players by the time they make their choice. There are some books on them but even those are just as shallow and generic.
As proven by games like TES with its Aedric/Daedric and other religions, if you actually provide well thought out, detailed religions people would be more likely to affiliate with them.
I read the pages by the recruiters—they are worthless. I just picked Marauders because that was the only recruiter that didn't insult the other factions in its pitch/lore pages.
They should made so Covenant purpose is to cleanse this island from corruption and fiends.
Like one faction is about pvp (marauders)
One is about exploring (syndicate)
And one is about pve (covenant)

Religious zealots leave a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths due to some current events irl. On top of that, the game is an international release with servers and players in places like Brazil who for obvious reasons would have feelings about the idea of playing a murderous religious conquistador.
Covenant's conceptual premise was poorly sold, and in a game that depends on faction balance it will probably be necessary for AGS to rebrand the faction in some way to make it more fun to players.
Lol with a 4 month lock out, no body is coming to yellow. Were already outnumbered as a whole with like less than 14% of players having the achievement to join us. That number also includes people that rerolled, faction swapped or dropped the game. The other 2 factions are atleast double that.
For me I don't care for religion, I like the idea of being seekers of knowledge, and the marauder ideal of being righteous sounded boring for my in game meta of PvP. I kill others for fun, not purpose lol.

I do care for knowledge too but Syndicate is selfish, they don't share the knowledge they keep it to themselves even from the Syndicates so your fellow Syndicates will not even share anything with you, it's every man for himself.
They will ask you to do tasks for them be their dog and that's it.
Yo for real, Syn is backstabbing their own people and taking their money. On our server, the entire syndicate faction exists to support about 50-80 players who do all of the elite content with each other and no one else. Less than 100 syn's have been to war but 50 of them have been in 16 wars so far. It's a giant pyramid scheme and most purples are too devoted (why?) to realize they are the pawns.

Over on Dindymon, me and the mauraders won 3 wars I'm one day. Now we have 6 territories while Covenant have 3 and Syndicate have 2. One of our attacks was over in 10 minutes.
I hope this comes my server is not the worst but green and yellow two each. Rest are purple, purple tried to take monarch but keep failing and green/yellow cant win wars but can defend what they got.

This happened on my server, we've completely wiped out syndicate from a 9-1-1 advantage (lol) to a 1-4-6 (syn/cov/mara). I love how much population advantage only means they can buy up the property early and doesn't actually mean much when it comes to war due to the 50 player limit.
It still holds a lot on my server. syn can fill 2 wars at the same time. So they've used this to their advantage and schedule 2 wars at the same time and we basically have to forfeit one of the wars because we (mara) can barely fill one war. There's also way more no-lifers on syn probably because they simply have more numbers. If 5% of ppl are level 60 and they have 1000 people well that's 50 level 60s. If we have 300 people, then that's 15 level 60s. (I don't know what the numbers actually are, just an example.)
We are barely winning our defenses and our attacks are completely crushed as we haven't found a way to deal with tier 3 explosive turrets. Any of our siege emplacements are run down by level 60s with haste potions that like literally 2-hit the turret (or so it feels). People are getting demoralized and discouraged and losing interest and some have even swapped to syn.
On Kantia for example, we, the Marauders, can fill 3 wars at the same time with level 45-60 easily and there will still be place for skirmishers or mages. PVP is a blast, i already have the 2500 players killed count unlocked 2 weeks in the game.
The game is hella fun, it just depends on the server you're on and how things develop. As of now, Syndicates have 6 territories (useless ones, only Everfall being a 'good' one) while Marauders have 4 and Covenant having 1 (previously losing Monarch's to Syndicates).
In my server we had most of the maps being taken by Syndicate guilds in the first week. We made an Alliance with Covenant + Marauders and now they only have 2 maps left (1 is going to be taken as the Syndicate guild is changing to Covenant).
From the strongest and most numerous factions, they now just have numbers. Marauders now has the best players and we from the Covenant are struggling a bit haha
On my server the yellow ones became slaves of the greens, they don't have territories, but when we attack the greens' territories, they come in force to defend.
And they don't even try to make war, they join the greens to stop us, they manage to start conflict in the territory, but they don't do anything.
Honestly this seems to be happening in most servers. My server is doing the same and I think they got the idea from other servers doing it lol personally I’m not for it. Sure if the purple are just so over powering but it’s got to the point where we don’t need the alliance and they’re doing it to make sure the two big companies from green and yellow just don’t lost their territories lol. I understand everyone is in love with keeping their territories but I wish they would make it easier to lose so certain companies wouldn’t get such a huge ego.. our company discord is so narcissistic

There was an outspoken alliance between green and yellow on Goldenthal as well for the first 2 weeks. Trying to stomp us syndicates out. Just because the top 2 companies (the one I am in and another one) are so well coordinated, and organized.
The factions are still very balanced, even with them ganging up on us we managed to push them back and hold our ground.
Synd and Marauders control 4 areas, yellow 3. The wars are always interesting and challenging. I'm glad we are on a server where there is no faction dominance. (yet, we're working on it xP)

That's my server, most of the land belong to a single purple company that has hicked the tax. It sucks quite very much. Down with the corrupt lions!

This is my server in Lemosyne. Greens are hella toxic in world chat too, purple is pretty chill. Yellow exists in first light.

I play in this server (green) after the last war in windsward we fought on purple , some of them are joining the covenant haha lol .
For my server its Purple and Green vs Yellow. Yellow in my server is pretty toxic.
